A.K. Evans is a contemporary romance author of over twenty published novels. While she enjoys writing a good romantic suspense novel, Andrea’s favorite books to write have been her extreme sports romances. That might have something to do with the fact that she, along with her husband and two sons, can’t get enough of extreme sports.

Before becoming a writer, Andrea did a brief stint in the insurance and financial services industry and managed her husband’s performance automotive business. That love of extreme sports? She used to drive race cars!

When Andrea isn’t writing, she can be found homeschooling her two sons, doing yoga, snowboarding, reading, or traveling with her family. She and her husband are currently taking road trips throughout the country to visit all 50 states with their boys.

Okay, so not only was Control the Burn a really good story in and of itself, but it also made me antsy for what’s to come in the future in this series, so double #win :)

I jumped on this book because I liked my previous reads by this author, although not that many yet, but also because of the racing aspect. When I read this series would be about the world of racing in some form or fashion, my brain snapped back to ten years ago when I read one of the best racing series I have ever read, and it made me just jump in. I’m super glad I did!

Kendall and Logan’s story was not only well built but also unfolded well. I know from reviews that I’ve read that they have appeared in books in the past but I’m kind of a newbie to this author so I wouldn’t know about all that and despite not knowing, nothing left me thinking I should. I enjoyed the story unfolding realistically and without undue drama. Yes, the story has conflict, but it’s necessary and it fits. I also liked that the author made sure to know her subject. I’m not a medical professional nor am I a racing fan, but I know realism when I read it and this book had it in spades. There was some inner thoughts/monologues that felt tiresome at times and had me skimming a bit but not enough to allow me to not enjoy the story.

I think this is a great beginning for this series and I’m looking forward to reading the future books.

If you hate the miscommunication trope don’t read this. The whole plot was “oh you didn’t call me so I thought ____”. I honestly couldn’t take much more of it. Blah.

4 star review of Control The Burn (Hearts & Horsepower #1) by A.K.Evans

A.K. Evans is a relatively new author to and I was excited to read Control The Burn, book one in her newest series.

When Logan Townsend and Kendall Moore first met, their connection was immediate and the chemistry and passion ignited. Kendall had hoped for more than one night but it seemed as though Logan didn’t.

When they meet again the attraction is still there and despite herself, Kendall finds herself falling back under his spell.

Will this second chance be the start of a wonderful love or will they crash and burn?

This was a steamy, at times emotional read that ticked a lot of boxes for me. It was well written with characters whose story you cannot help but become invested in and I am excited to see what A.K. Evans has in store for the rest of the series.

4 Stars!

Whew, what a start to this new series series and what a way to make me want alllllll the books in this series coming soon- right now! Well done here. A.K. Evans is a brand spanking new to me and y'all, I gotta say, I'm thoroughly impressed and she's totally got a fan in me now.

Control the Burn is the first standalone in the sweet and steamy Hearts and Horsepower series and y'all, just you wait until you meet Kendall and Logan- so unforgettable in sooooo many moments and their second chance-ish journey? Everything in a whole lotta ways. They had fiery chemistry, an undeniable pull, and all those feels ping ponging back and forth? WHEEEW!!

Pumped for the next and yayyyy for it being sooner rather than later. My kind of releases when it comes to a series...

I definitely recommend this book.

Control the Burn is the first book in A.K. Evans new series Hearts & Horsepower. I‘ve read a bunch of her books already and when she announced a series featuring racecar mechanics/drivers I just had to read it!

I did not expect the characters in this story to be so connected with characters of different stories but I enjoyed it and it gives me more excitment to read these other books aswell!

This book is about Logan a race car tuner who owns his own bussiness and labor and delivery nurse Kendall.
Their story is a turbulent one with a healthy dose of angst and alot of love. In the beginning I had some troubles with Kendall but a few more chapters in the troubles got washed away

The writing was great and I read the whole book in one sitting. The characters were great aswell as the secondary character where I‘m already excited to read their stories in the next books.

4.5 ⭐️

Not my favorite...

But still worth reading. Kendall got on my nerves for quite a bit, but I'm glad I finished if only because this was a good set up for future books in the series.

3.5 Stars-I Really Wanted to Like It More

In Control the Burn, we meet Logan and Kendall. Two late twenty, early thirties people that are well established in thier careers, but not in thier personal lives.

Logan owns a precision auto shop that takes up most of his time, leaving nothing left for an actual girlfriend. Out one night for his birthday, Logan meets the beautiful Kendall and boy do the sparks fly! The first chapter of this book made me think I was in for one wild ride, however it wasn't the ride I was expecting.

Kendall did something out of her norm and now she's paying the price. After her steamy night with Logan, he ghosted her and let the series of misunderstandings start now. Kendall is written two ways, strong and smart at work as a labor and delivery nurse and then weak and needy when it comes to Logan. She was an instant turn off for me and I thought for Logan as well after her first crying jag about him not able to spend the day with her.

While I liked these characters separately, I didn't like them together. Kendall was a nag and a glue stick. She knew Logan had a time consuming job, however constantly whined or pouted when he had to break a date. The girl needed some friends to help occupy her time it seemed. I'm a fan of angst, but not this type. When A.K. Evans threw a curveball in at the end, I was excited, only to have my hopes dashed that it was a setup for the next book.

Control the Burn is well written and that phrase can be used as a drinking game while reading, as it was said by both characters constantly. Along with Logan and Kendall, we meet thier families and friends to help carry the story along. I didn't find much chemistry with these two, but would be interested in reading the next in the series. The book reads as a standalone with a nice epilogue to wrap things up.

Kendall’s career as a nurse keeps her very busy but she has always wanted a family and a man to share it with. When she meets Logan he inspires feelings in her that she would like to pursue so she was hurt that she never heard from him again.

Logan is focused on ensuring that his business is a success but when he meets Kendall he knows that she is special and fully intended to contact her but life got in the way. When destiny brings them together once again will they be able to realize that the most important thing in their life is each other before it is too late?

Their journey wasn’t without its obstacles but they prove that when it comes to love if there is a will there is a way.

There are a few pacing issues and too much time spent inside characters' heads with not enough time together, but overall it was fine. Neither loved it nor hated it

It’s close to 3.5 ⭐️’s, I feel compelled to say. I really loved the storyline of this book. It was sweet, fun and sexy. I loved the way it started. Kendall and Logan were so hot together. However, their love story got buried under a bunch of random information that went on for pages upon pages. The inner monologues were loooooong. Then you had one of them thinking something in their head, then they’d voice it out loud. Word for word. So you got the same thing twice. That happened so much. Also, introductions to other people were taking forever, small talk like that drove me crazy. Another thing was the fact that I felt like I learned more about Kendall and Logan’s respective jobs than I learned about them and their relationship. She was a nurse in labor and delivery. So she had these repetitive conversations with her patients/moms to be. He was a drag racing driver and owned his own auto shop where he was building and tuning these fancy racing cars. There were sooooooo many details here, so many. I will say that it was all accurate information, I got one of those at home so I could relate. But why did we need so many details about the whole thing? Even when Logan was at the shop talking to his people there, all these conversations about cars, motors, chassis, tuning, blah blah blah. Seriously too much of that. I will read book 2 because I feel invested now.

I’ve waited for Logan to get his story since I first met him in his brother’s book. I can honestly say that his story was so much more than I was expecting, and I expected a lot. He and Kendall had a few false starts and almost wrecked, but they managed to pull themselves together without unnecessary drama to find their happy together. And that’s one of the best things about this author. She doesn’t give us drama just to have drama; instead, she gives us stories that feel like she followed the flow of the characters instead of demanding that they bend to her will. It helps that this series is very much up my alley with the cars and all of the work that goes into a successful run. AND her knowledge of the performance world is obvious in this book, since she got so many facts right. I always appreciate someone doing the research to inject reality into the setting of the stories (and I’d like to thank her resident expert for that, too!).

Thanks to this first book, I continue to have high hopes for the next book. I’m almost afraid to find out what Avery has to go through, since I’m pretty sure her story won’t be as easygoing a ride as Kendall and Logan had.

This is the first book in a brand new series by A.K. Evans. We meet Logan and Kendall as they meet in a bar. They have a great connection, but things don’t work out exactly how they should. These two are characters that are equally stubborn, and after a few miscommunications, finally realize that the best and biggest thing that they can do is be open and honest with each other. This book is an insta-ish with a slow burn mixed tougher, and i really enjoyed the way our author writes these two. They are both strong, independent and mature adults who work really hard. Once they move past the largest obstacles, they are golden together. And then we get a glimpse of their relationship as they work through normal adversities. I enjoyed the tempo of the story, and feel like the author gave us a great glimpse into realistic characters without any added whimsy. Which is a nice departure sometimes. I only gave this one 4 stars only because the pacing of the book was slow, and i thought it needed a little something else. Still, I can’t wait to see what is in store for the rest of the characters we met.

I have been dying for these characters to get a story of their own since meeting them in a previous series. Logan and Kendall were the perfect start to the Hearts and Horsepower series. They are both stubborn and strong headed and are everything I'm known for so they fit into my head perfectly. I loved that their relationship didn't start perfectly. We get to see that there is a lot of hard work required to make a real relationship work which is everything I wanted. We always get our happily ever after with this amazing author but it's the fun that we take on the ride there that makes it amazing. I loved Control the Burn and and am dying to get my hands on the rest of the series

If you’re looking for an emotional ride, where your heart feels so much within the span of a few pages, then this is the book for you. Control the Burn is the start of a new series by A.K. Evans, called Hearts and Horsepower. It does have some characters that some readers may be familiar with from her other work (she is a new author to me so I wasn’t) but you can still totally read this book as a standalone. I was instantly drawn into Evans’ emotional world and felt deeply for her characters right off the bat.

In Control the Burn, Kendall meets Logan at his birthday celebration and the sparks between them are intense. She goes home with him - something completely out of character for her - and they share an incredible, passionate night. She gives him her phone number and he promises to call, and she believes that what they shared was special to both of them. Only, Logan doesn’t call. And we feel everything that Kendall is feeling so powerfully. Evans captures the feelings of hurt, and loss of self worth and the sting of rejection so perfectly. It takes a few weeks, but finally, Kendall feels she has to move on. Only, that’s when Logan comes back into the picture. There were circumstances that stopped him from calling and now he wants a second chance. Can Kendall put herself out there again or is she too afraid to get hurt? And if she does give Logan another chance, will the spark between them ignite to the point where she can no longer control the burn? Is she destined to get hurt again, or is Logan worth the risk?

I felt so much with this book, and I loved that. I was rooting for both characters at the same time - so much so that sometimes I was at odds with myself. The only thing negative I can say is that all the car talk was a bit lost on me. But if you’re into that sort of thing, you’ll love it. It definitely leant a dose of realism to the book. I was definitely happy to have been introduced to A.K. Evans and I can’t wait to stalk her and find her other work. Not in a creepy way, mind you. In a Logan way ;) Control the Burn is out now. Thank you to the author and to Give Me Books Promotions for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A combustible attraction:
Overall this was an enjoyable book with plenty of emotion and depth. At times it was a bit wordy with a lot of repeated internal dialogue as well as jumping back in time and rehashing things, even in the middle of intimate scenes which sadly took some of the heat out. I did however like the amount of detail the author gave not only in the medical area but also with racing cars and the mechanical side of things. It was interesting without being bogged down by too many facts.
Kendall and Logan had a rocky start but one thing they couldn't fight was their intense attraction and deep chemistry. There were numerous obstacles for them to overcome and they had to learn the importance of communication and trust. Kendall was also plagued by insecurities and self doubt and she had to choose between two completely different men. I did find it dragged a bit but I was so glad that they finally managed to sort everything out.
This is the first book in the Hearts and Horsepower series and the first book I'd read by this author. While there were references to characters from previous series, I was able to follow along without feeling lost or like an outsider which was great.

4.5 Stars for Control the Burn ( Hearts & Horsepower #1)
A.K. Evans is a new author to me so what a perfect introduction to a new author with the start of a new series. Logan and Kendall are characters that have been introduced in a previous book and it’s now time for them to tell their story.
Logan has no time for relationships and romance, the only thing he has time for is his Race Shop and Kendall works as a delivery nurse so she also has little time for socialising but when these two meet in a bar, sparks fly, problem is timing and it’s seems it’s not their time.
Fate works in mysterious ways and it seems fate is determined for these two to be together because they find their way back to each other and this time they both need to make time for each other so will second time around work for Logan and Kendall......
Control the Burn is an emotional, passionate read, it’s about making time in your life for the one you love, the characters are adorable and the chemistry is intense and I highly recommend this book. It has the perfect mix of love, passion and drama and it has left me excited for the rest of the series.

WOW! This first book in the Hearts and Horsepower series is fire! Logan and Kendall met on Logan's birthday and had a one night stand. There was instant attraction and chemistry between these two. He promises to call, but circumstances beyond his control have him out of the country for a month. She turns down a date with an ER doc, but eventually decides she isn't going to wait for Logan. When Kendall decides to give Logan a second chance, the attraction is combustible and so are the conversations. There's always the making up part though...

What an amazing start to this series! So many feelings here... the author gave us a cast of characters so multidimensional and full of emotions. It was great to see the "realness" of their relationship as it progressed. Everything didn't get tied up in a pretty package so easily. The strong-willed characters had to work through every facet of their relationship to get their HEA. The story was well written and the foundation of the series well laid. This is going to be hard to top but I have faith!

I received an advance copy of this book at my request and voluntarily left this review.

Recurring characters!

This author has packed so many recurring characters into this book, I suggest reading in order. One of my favorite things about this author’s books is the way she has interconnected her stories. Some good steamy scenes. I liked the male character. He came across as mature except for the very beginning when he didn’t put in enough effort to return that first phone call. We all know that we prioritize what we care about. But the author wrote his explanation so well that I could forgive this lack of effort on his part. The female I struggled with. She seemed to lack empathy about his work schedule and it came across as bitchy. My biggest disappointment with this book, there was not enough character interaction between the two main leads. Not enough banter, humor or chemistry. Too much of the book was about the mechanics of racing. I want a love story not detailed information about racing. I flipped pages too often and got bored. I usually give a 5⭐️ rating to this author’s books but this book left me wanting more romance.

In this first audiobook of the new series , the main characters made an appearance in the author’s series Cunningham Security.
Kendall Moore is a labor and delivery nurse who while enjoying a visit to the local pub, meets birthday “boy” Logan Townsend, owner of a racing car garage.
Their first meeting was and night was explosive. His promise to call her never occurred. She assumed he had ghosted her while in fact he had left town and accidentally left her phone number behind.
When she’s started dating, he reappears and thus starts the start and stop relationship.
I have to confess that though I enjoyed Logan, I never warmed up to Kendall. That said , the narrators Aaron Shedlock and Addison Barnes did a great delivery with the narrations.
Though for this listener it was more of a 3.5 stars, I gave it 4 stars since I truly believe the author is very talented. Case in point, her entertaining security series are amongst my favorites.
I was entrusted a copy of this audiobook. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

I’m a huge fan of the two previous series by this author, so knowing we’d meet up with characters we’d previously seen glimpses of is exciting. Logan Townsend was an enigma, but pair him with Kendall and you have a combustible combination. This story never runs smoothly these two are feisty and passionate which makes for a great story but not necessarily a smooth ride. Once they finally get on the same page things settle somewhat but life is never boring with these two around. Their love is fierce and beautiful. The details this story gives us are amazing. I’ve learnt a lot whilst reading this story. It really helps you understand Logan’s passion and drive. Kendall is an exceptionally smart and compassionate woman who loves deeply, her love and uncertainty broke my heart at first but watching her grow and gain her confidence was rewarding. I’m looking forward to reading Book 2 so much now. Great start to a fabulous new series.

I received an ARC from the author thru Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my review. This is the first book in Hearts and Horsepower but we have met these two previously. Logan is a genius when it comes to moving parts. He and Kendall have sparks between them from the beginning. After an unforgettable time together, she is confused. It seems Logan has disappeared from her life. Meanwhile Logan cannot forget her any more than she can him. He knows some changes have to happen or he may not ever have the happy future he has seen around him. When he comes back into her life she has to decide if he can give her what she truly wants for her future. This was a really well written story with great characters. I look forward to what comes next in the series

Control the Burn starts out with Kendall & Logan hooking up & it was HOT HOT HOT! She leaves the next day with the promise that he'll call her but he didn't which hurt her feelings. From then on out, the journey wasn't as easy because she didn't want to be humiliated again while he just wanted to explain. I was all in from the jump, and never got up until every last page was devoured. Of course that's not exactly a shock since I'm a HUGE fan of A.K. Evans, and in my eyes, Control the Burn started her new series out with a BANG so now I'm already impatiently waiting on the next book because I'm hooked! With super sexy times with the hero/heroine, a great cast of secondaries, and even with the hurt feelings, there wasn't an overpowering amount of angst. So since that's all from me, I'll just end by saying, HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

Control The Burn is the first title in the Hearts and Horsepower series. I was intrigued by the synopsis of this book, but had never read A K Evans work before, so didn’t know what to expect when it came to her writing style. I found a steamy, emotional, angsty and passionate read with not only a hero and heroine that I liked but side characters who captured my interest.
Logan Townsend is a race car turner and the owner of LT Racing. He’s hardworking, driven and determined. Kendall Moore is a labor and delivery nurse, who is quite strong and independent. This pair are both quite stubborn, but both are willing to do whatever it takes to make their relationship work.
The connection between this pair is immediate and undeniable, unfortunately their relationship is plagued by miscommunications and misunderstandings.
I’m eager to read the remaining titles in this series.

Kendall Moore and Logan Townsend have one crazy night with promises of more to come. But missed chances, insecurities and stubbornness almost break them apart again before they even have a chance to explore what they could potentially have. Can they control their emotions and be what the other needs or do they burn too hot leaving their relationship in smoke and flames?

Control the Burn was book one in A.K. Evans new Hearts & Horsepower series and was super angsty. I had a bit of a hard time connecting with this couple, as they both felt a bit over emotional at times and somewhat needy . . . cue the angst!

I found the background info on the racing and performance car industry really interesting and I’m looking forward to spending more time with the rest of the LT Motorsports team. 4 stars.

Kendall is needy, annoying, desperate, jealous, and overly emotional. There is nothing about this character that I actually liked and rooted for. She jumps into bed with a man that she just met and then is shocked when he doesn't call her. Then after a month, they run into each other again, reconnect, and she does the EXACT same thing. She gets jealous of his time after only getting together TWICE, and he (very UNrealistically) panders to it and tries to help her. And she keeps telling Logan - this is not who I am. Ummm.... yes it is. The first 70% of this book is these two characters working out stupid arguments/drama/misunderstandings based on the simple fact that they don't really know each other at all, but have a false sense of intimacy because they hopped into bed together.

Honestly would have given this a 1 star, but I liked Logan more than a little.

I’ve read A.K’s previous series + Rockstars & Romance (which was my 1st and then I went back to Everything).

This book kind of bothered me, 1st because everything I’d read in Lexi and Luke’s books, Logan seemed like a great guy. I couldn’t figure out why he didn’t call. Especially when your sister’s dating a PI, getting a phone # shouldn’t be that hard. He looked for her on FB?

But also Kendall, she’s a strong woman. I’ve been to L&D those nurses (all nurses) have tough, stressful jobs.
She’s always crying.

Also, I don’t understand the ending with Owen? He was there, he was upset about her breaking up with him and then just disappears?

I am looking forward to the next books, the guys in garage have interesting personalities! Ryker makes me laugh, I’m looking forward to his book.

Welcome back to Wyoming! This was a great start to AK Evans new Hearts and Horsepower series. As per her usual style, AK writes another photographic story, the way she describes scenes, characters and everything you are seeing exactly what she wants you to see.

In this story we get to be a part of Logan and Kendall’s journey. Logan is a bit of a workaholic single guy who never really had to worry about anyone but himself, until he meets Kendall and sees what his life could and should be. This relationship has its ups and downs, but in the end they finally see what we see from the beginning.

Control the Burn had everything you are looking for and had me hooked at the gate, I can’t wait to see what comes next in this series!

Logan is into drag racing and Kendall is a labor and delivery nurse. They meet, both feeling like something is good between them, but then it becomes a roller coaster ride with miscommunications and busy season. Once feelings and emotions are talked about and acknowledged, the romance goes full speed ahead. Loved the backstories of the characters, which helped you understand their side of things. Avery was a nice surprise and I like that she finally found a friendly environment and a group that is like family. Kendall and Logan had great family and friends that supported them. Loved the ending and the future profile.
