Seducing a man for the sole purpose of blackmailing him never crossed my mind. Until it was my only option. I thought it would save my family, and all my father worked for. Instead, I found myself running from Bexley Falls to escape what I did.
Broke and alone, I had no choice but to return to my life as an heiress and face my mistake.
Only Malcolm McLane isn’t the forgiving type.
He’s been gathering information on me and launches into a game of cat and mouse that could destroy us both. At first, I thought I could handle him. Now, I find my control slipping in a battle that could swallow me whole. My only way out is with the help of his son, Carter.
I shouldn’t be attracted to Carter.
He’s forbidden.
Dangerous.
Yet as he helps me plot my escape, I feel an undeniable magnetism drawing me to him.
It's a game of emotional warfare, and I'm not sure that either of us will make it out alive.

Okay after reading the whole book I have to say that I am a little disappointed.
But something felt amiss. I didn't buy the connection between the hxh for one min. And yes I hated Mac but at least they had a history and some moments there. And no I don't want her to end up with him. I just mean, that mac could have very well taken Carter's spot and it wouldn't have mattered bs he was lost somewhere half of the time.
But i didn't deducted one star for that reason but because of the fast paced writing.. Show me the progress for gsake.
I break our kiss. “Hate me enough not to continue?” Her chest heaves as she stares into my eyes. “I hate you just enough to keep going.”
But hey at least the smut was good and I loved the girl right
****** Before edit
I dk why I was so hesitant to pick this one up but as it was already eating up my library space ..I gave it go and boy does it pack a punchBoom !!!
Sure some might cringe hard and say that it's disgusting No thank you but for me it just worked..
For one :
■The hero is not unnecessarily overbearing or an major asshole. ( if my instinct about who that might be is correct) ..and yes I am just halfway in but from what I can see so far ..the heroine does hold her own stand.
■ Second the heoine isn't fawing herself death wet. yes the body betrayal.. disgusting shit I hated ik ik ..is present but she doesn't have this giant crush on him or the other guy and that makes it more bearable and fun.
Seriously ...the amount of things I am willing to overlook if you just give me the one with the right mindset is surprising.°
●And lastly she has this right amount of sweet and sour personality that did justice to my mood
●I swear the friendship between Lydia and Carmen is the best thing in this book. I love how supportive they are towards each other and even though they are both toxic they just click like a match to flame . Xo
Hu$h Money is my first read from B. L. Mute, and I will definitely be coming back for more! If you know anything about me, you know I love dark, messy, drama filled romance, and that's exactly what this is! Drugs, sex, violence, secrets, seriously flawed characters, and a taboo twist?! I was in heaven!
I didn't read any reviews before I dove into this one, and I'm glad. I had no idea what to expect, and that made the experience more enjoyable for me. I was trying to figure out where they were going with certain aspects of the story, and I can honestly say it ended somewhere I didn't see coming!
Because of that, I won't be giving away anymore details for this one. If you like what you've heard so far, just pick it up, and give a try! What do you have to lose?
Wanting to help her father, Lydia seeks to seduce his squirly business partner, Malcolm, in an attempt to blackmail him into following her father's plans. Instead, traumatizing events have Lydia departing her home, only to return a year later to a new family, to circumstances she did not expect. Now for a cunning Malcolm, it’s a game of "with this money, keep it quiet and do what I tell you." Blackmail, grittiness, twist.
Having gone in blind, this book was full of the unexpected, from the forbidden to the plot twists, I was riveted, and yet it was believably authentic. A bit of romantic suspense, a lot of grit, perversion, and a blossoming romance, I was rocked by the event in this story. Additionally, all the characters -- Lydia, her mother, former childhood best friend Carter, Carter's father Malcolm, and even her other best friend -- were interwoven with their craziness and backstories. I could not have anticipated what was ultimately delivered. I loved how Lydia became stronger for Carter and their reliance on each other.
Character development was inventive -- a not so good girl Lydia with good intentions, her questionable love interest Carter, a Stepford-wife mother, her father's egotistical business partner, and add to those, a resourceful best friend. I would have liked more in the way of character descriptions; for instance, there was little to no physical description of Malcolm or Lydia's mother.
There was also some reticence on love scenes in general. Yes, there was steam, particularly later in the book, but one pivotal scene, which in effect launches the story, was not enacted. The first steamy scene was a missed opportunity where fade to black did not fit even though later love scenes were more descriptive.
Overall, this story gave me all the forbidden / taboo I could ask for in a twisty, dark-themed plot line. Fluid pace, never a dull moment. A few unanswered questions that I expect will be satisfied in book 2. It was creative and unpredictable. An enjoyable read.
The girl does the father and the son, and to make matters worse, they are her stepfather and stepbrother. She started with the dad before he married her mother to blackmail him and then ended up pining over him for a year before finding out her mother married that disgusting pig. And then continued to fuck him because now he’s blackmailing her.
I don’t know how I’m supposed to like this, and some scenes with her stepdad were flat out rape.

Lydia is in a little over her head when she decides she's going to try and blackmail Malcolm. Malcolm is a manipulator that is used to getting what he wants. Carter isn't what I expected.
I loved that we get all three POVs throughout the book. It really helps to bring it all together. But not too much, because just when you "think" you know what is going on, you find out you had it a little wrong.
I'm really excited to read the second book in this duet after that epilogue! It was just enough to make you go, wait what?!?!?
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is a new-to-me author but I love the genre so I took a chance and I'm so glad I did. This book is a whirlwind of angst, reversals, ups and downs. It really delivered on the tension, both between Lydia and Carter and between Lydia and her new "family."
I loved the way Lydia grew and stepped up in the story. She starts in a bad place, disempowered and with few choices. By the end, she's holding her own against a very bad guy. Some of the fun of reading NA/bully romance for me is seeing the heroine become a queen in her own right and this book definitely had this element in spades.
I didn't connect quite as well with Carter and that's where the book lost a star for me (and the "off screen" love scene, which I felt killed the pace and tension). I eventually came to understand his conflict, but it took quite a while for this to unfold and until that point he was somewhat unlikeable.
This book is book 1 of a duet and I'm looking forward to reading book 2!
This is my first read by B.L. Mute; Hu$h Money is book #1 in The Dirty Money Duet. It's a steamy forbidden and dark romance. Holy moly... wow! What did I just read!! I don't know how to begin! This read is not everyones' cup of tea, there are dark subjects mentioned in this book. And you may find the characters' actions wrong (at times I certainly did). There were a lot of dark secrets, twists and turns. But never the less, B.L. Mute did an amazing job! The blurb intrigued me when I first read it, but I didn't the expect the story to unravel like that! I was hooked from the very first page! Lydia (heroine) is way over her head; she's now dealing with the consequences of actions. She was happily living in her bubble, well, to the outside world she looked happy. But deep down, she was dealing with a whirlwind of emotions and had to suppress those emotions; she was partying away and letting loose. Lydia loves her family deeply and she would do anything to help them. Even resorting to blackmail.
Now, I don't want to give too many spoilers away, all I have to say is that the person Lydia tried to blackmail, (which backfired at her, unfortunately) is Malcolm. There are three perspectives in this story: Lydia, Malcolm and Carter's (Malcolm's son). Carter and Lydia were childhood friends but drifted apart over the years and they sort of became enemies. And Malcolm, well, he can be seen as the "Devil in disguise"; no body would believe that he has a dark sinister side. He is a master manipulator and an intimidating man; his actions and behaviors are wrong on so many levels. Malcolm controls Carter and Lydia so well, like a puppeteer he easily pulls the strings to his advantage. Even though I dislike Malcolm's character, I was impressed with how the author added his perspective.
Lydia is drowning in guilt and grief; her actions and secrets weigh heavily on her soul and at times, she feels embarrassed, ashamed and disgusted with herself. I love Carmen's character! She's Lidya's bestfriend, she's certainly a great character. And Carter, his feelings for Lydia run much deeper than he realized, and he would do anything to help her out the situation she is in. The last couple of chapters, left me speechless!! I did not see that coming!!! And the epilogue!! Wow! I really need book #2!!
**I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review
I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH! Once I started it I could NOT stop reading for anything. The characters were just amazing. I loved Lydia and Carter and in the beginning I actually did love Malcom (I love those daddies what can I say). This book had everything. Hot as sin sex, suspense, drama, chemistry, OH MAN THE CHEMISTRY WAS CRAZY! And it was perfectly DARK! Some of the things that happened in the book made my jaw drop. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this book. And to top it off the cover is absolutely stunning! 5 STARS!!!!
What a great plot! Man, Malcolm was so twisty! I loved where the story went! It was one of those hard to predict kinda plots and I LOVE those! I have never even heard of this author but I’m so glad I found this story! It was great! I can’t wait for book 2!!
I’m still processing but holy sh*t! I went into this book expecting one thing and got something completely different, and I’m not even mad. That epilogue though! 10/10 would recommend.
Hi, I finished at 3am. I think my brain has malfunctioned and my eyes fell out of my sockets. BL Mute told me to remember that I loved her when she sent this to me. I think I still might, but I'm questioning things now.
Dang this book was on a whole other level and I mean a completely different level!
Talk about a depraved man who not only got what he wanted but he was a sick man. For all the things he did to his family and what he causes in life period, he's like a rotten tomato!
This story is about Malcolm, Carter and Lydia. For some reason these three end up in an entangled mess. Malcolm tends to be the worst father of the century and he is a damn good manipulator. He knows how to get what he wants when he wants it and don't ever cross this man unless you want to get yourself in big trouble and that's exactly what Lydia finds herself doing.
I will tell you that I haven't read a book like this in a while and it sure damn will be in my top reads this year. I felt like I was a scary roller coaster ride. Malcolm gave me the chills and not in a good way!!
Can't wait to read the 2nd book in this duet cause with the way it ended and the little teaser we got for the next book totally has me on edge.
LOVED THIS BOOK!
5 Stars

Hush Money was my first BL Mute novel and I enjoyed it. Right from the start the story had me hooked with the drama, tension, suspense, steamy scenes twists and turns and it took me on an intense roller coaster ride. The story was dark, sexy, forbidden and emotional and the plot twists had me riveted and I did not expect the story to unravel like it did. There as never a dull moment and I loved that we got 3 POV throughout the story. By the end, this story will leave you speechless and anxiously in need of the second book. I would highly recommend this novel to lover of dark romance.
I've arc read for BL Mute before and her books are dark and gritty so I knew I'd love this but when I saw it on tik tok I was like GIMME!!!!
This is about a girl, her Step dad and step brother 👀 I mean do I even need to say more 🤷🏼♀️😏😈
Okay first this book hit me in the feels in the most unexpected way at the start so be warned and then damnnnn I loved it.
Malcolm is more than an asshole tbh he's evil, down right rotten, yet I still liked him 🙃 until the end of the book. He was domineering, dark and controlling to an obsessive level that he just couldn't leave the fmc alone.
Carter tries to be everything his dad isn't and somehow turns out even better. There is real hatred between him and his dad you could feel it through the pages and he tried his hardest to keep pushing the fmc away but he couldn't. He was definitely my guy in this book.
The back and forth between all of them and the tension had me flipping my kindle pages as fast as I could.
Then the last 10% things just went crazy!!! I did not expect this to go in the direction it did and honestly I should have known from her previous books how she likes to fuck with us but clearly I didn't learn my lesson 🙃🙃
Anyway I loved it and how it ended up and can't wait for more from other characters in this world.
i can get on board with every type of asshole hero you can imagine. UNLESS he mentions liking the heroine at 14yrs old when he was a grown man. i can’t do it. i was here for this wild ride but i just can’t find their sex sexy after that.
Wow! I needed to sit back and think about what I was going to write as the ending literally blew my mind! I have to admit for quite a while Lydia annoyed the ever-loving daylights out of me. 😆 I did feel sorry for her but if she was going to play with the big boys then she needed to stop playing at being a ‘grown-up’ and act it instead. This did come, along with a lot of home truths and some very tough lessons mind you—so then I started feeling empathy for Lydia. Overall, she was a victim of her circumstances in a way and I ended up liking how she protected her mother and took charge in other areas too.
Now, as to the villain in the story—there’s absolutely no redemption for him, he was a manipulative rotter through and through. His character was built up perfectly over the course of the book to make you dislike him more and more. On the other hand, his son, Carter, his character was built up very carefully and cleverly too. I really liked and felt sorry for him but couldn’t understand why he felt at his age he couldn’t get away. There were some questions about his mother and an older brother that were left unanswered p, maybe they will be revealed in the next story or maybe they will remain a mystery—I hope not! 😀
The storyline itself is quite good but at times I found it a little hard to believe—even in a fictional story. Nothing too major but little things that irked me like how did the villain get into Lydia’s uncle’s house late that night when she came back with Jake? Anyway, the main thing is good triumphs over evil, and boy oh boy does it happen in an incredible manner. One in which I was totally knocked for six when it happened and one I applaud the author for using—the excitement alone was brilliant and one of the main reasons for the extra half a star, it deserved it.
Then—you have THAT epilogue! Holy moly, what a mind-blowing one it was and I already need the next book now! Oh Carmen, what happened?
Where to begin... I decided to re-read this book before I reviewed it. You may be wondering why. Well let me explain.... You see I was not prepared for this book by any means. After speaking with the author about this book she assured me that it would blow my mind. I will say my mind is blown🤯. I read it a few weeks ago and thought you know what I am just going to give my mind a few days to process what I just read. Well while I was processing I decided I would do a re-read. Ok first off let me say there are things that take place in this book that had my blood boiling. I mean I wanted to take my kindle and heave it across the room. In case you are wondering I love books that do that. I love feeling what the characters feel it makes the story more real for me. Be prepared to get sucked into this world, and be prepared for the words that are written with in these pages! B.L. Mute hit this one out of the park with her twisted words, and dark depraved mind.
Be warned there are a few scenes that may be a trigger, but they are well written and you will feel what the characters feel.
One girl. Her stepfather. And her step brother. I know. Say less, right?! Gah! This was one of the hottest books I’ve read in a while. But the best part wasn’t even the daddy factor, which let me just say…HOT, nope! It’s not even the fact that my girl dips into the stepbrother pool as well. YAS QUEEN…mostly! Still, that wasn’t the best part! The best part was that this story never slowed down, it didn’t play out like I thought it would. It twisted, turned, and twirled into this deliciously dark story that I couldn’t eat up fast enough if I tried! Who needs sleep when you need answers?! And more of Malcolm (that gloriously evil yet yummy bastard) and Carter (that hot AF morsel of do-me-now-please!) of course! *drool* I’m going in circles and not saying anything because….whoa. That was a hell of a book.
What a mind f*ck! Like holy shizz, BL Mute! I knew Hu$h Money was going to a wild a ride, but damn. My mind literally cannot fully compute what I just read. Just that I desperately need book two now!!
PS. I move to remove cliffhanger privileges from this author. It’s just not fair! I’m dying.
Lydia, geez, this girl can’t catch a break. She’s a good girl gone bad with the best of intentions, but then life takes a turn for the worst. Now she’s saddled with seeing the ramifications of those bad decisions coming home to roost. Malcolm and Carter… Father and son couldn’t be more different. You’ll have to read it because I’m not spoiling a single second. There’s always more than meets the eye. Just remember that the white stuff on top of bird crap is still bird crap. You can make it look nice, but that doesn’t make it so…
Hush money by b.l. mute is my first novel by her, that I read. This read has all the tropes that I love. Enemies to lover Forbidden Action packed Suspense And crazy love! So, this book was so crazy hot. The plot had me in suspense, I didn't know how or who the ending will be with. A gripping, gritty novel with dark characters that is well paced and the steam factor is high. I am now going to go read the backlog of this author and check all her future works!.
She’s done it again, she hooked me in and I couldn’t out it down. BL has a way with words and she brings each character to life in a unique and addictive way. The hate I had for HIM was strong but I would have liked to see him suffer a little more because he was a manipulative a$$hole Carmen was a highlight for me, and I was so excited to see that the next book is about her
Well shit ! This was my first read by this author and I can officially say I’m obsessed with her writing! This story is dark it’s intense it’s emotional and so fucking hot I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough I loved Carter and Lydia I loved their connection their chemistry was off the charts and that crazy shocking ending let’s just say I’ll be counting down the days till the next book in this duet is out ! Amazing book ! It’s sexy it’s emotional it’s dark and it’s twisted af I just couldn’t get enough of these characters! BL Mute where have you been all my life ? Can’t wait for the next book in this duet !
**I received an ARC for an honest review and BOY OH BOY did this book not disappoint! **
I went into this knowing it was going to be about a girl, her stepfather, and her stepfather and the exchange of "hush money" for sex, but I didn't really know how that dynamic would play out. This isn't your typical stepfather/stepdaughter or stepbrother/stepsister trope--BL does away with all of that and turns it on its head. I don't want to get into specifics, because that would be spoilery, but Lydia(the fmc), makes a move out of desperation and ends up being blackmailed by her stepfather to "give it up to him when ever he wants" in exchange for hush money, all while being forbidden from interacting with his son(her stepbrother)....but you know what they say about forbidden fruit ;) This book absolutely blew me away and took me on an emotional rollercoaster I was totally unprepared for. BL had me all up in my feels and holding on to the edge of the seat, ready to throw the book across the room! AND THAT EPILOGUE!!!!! I am so excited to hear there will be a book 2!
Holy smokes this book was like a bomb going off! It was absolutely nuts. I was not ready for the last part of the book especially! I loved the storyline and the relationship between Carter and Lydia, the tension kept me engaged and reading quickly. I honestly haven’t read anything quite like this one before!
