The crackling tires were echoing. She should ask them to pull over, something was happening to her. She’d had this sense of ability related foreboding before, it rarely went well. Deep breath in. Deep breath out. Be calm. Her peripheral vision flickered ominously. Her heart was thudding like she ran a marathon. She’d been asleep for a day and a half. She needed to feed her ability but didn’t want these new people to know she fed off immortal energy. It might make things awkward. Killian smelled amazing. He had sweet, tasty, potent pheromones. She needed to get out of here. She wiped her brow. Her throat was so dry, she could barely swallow. If she ate them all, they’d have a nice long nap. An author to follow. A cleverly told dark comedy fantasy drama. Romance, comedy, world-building and intrigue, this book has it all. Vividly real narrative that draws you in and keeps the pages turning with an emotional roller coaster of emotions.

Tragic Fools is the fifth and final book in the Children of Ankh series and MAAAN has this been such a wild ride. This is not meant to be a standalone, as previous books have soooo much information that is necessary to understand what is happening. I think this is my favorite one of the series. We've seen Kayn and her clan rise and grow from the very beginning. Although, It's sad to see Kayn's story end, it does expand to other members of her clan. Can't wait to read more of this universe!

I really thought this was the first book in the series I don’t know how I missed it being book five but in any event I tried to soldier on and although I was not the famaliar with this universe I found myself enthralled in her plight the romance but after reading the first four books I will probably review this again. Please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review I want to thank the author and story origin for my free arc copy.

I got to be a beta reader for this book. I’m typically a slow reader but found I zipped right through this one. It’s fun, fast paced and has all the familiar and now beloved characters from the series. If you liked the first books you will love this one. Enjoy!
Side note, the author frequently offers Facebook posts with contests, teasers, polls to see which couple you’d like to see stay/get together etc. Makes for a fun interactive experience

Tragic Fools by Kim Cormack is the fifth book in her Children of Ankh series. This book isn't really meant to be read as a standalone novel, so if you haven't read thr the previous books in this series then I highly recommend that you start from the beginning so that you get the full scope pf the characters and storyline with this series.
Tragic Fools is the first book that I have read by Kim Cormack. I enjoy fantasy novels with paranormal twists so I was eager to check this book out despite it being part of a series. As we all know there are some series you can jump into and be able to get into without too much trouble. While I did come to enjoy this story it took me a while to get into the story. All of the characters have been established and their relationships overall as well. It took me a few chapters to begin understanding who was who and keep them straight in my head.
As the story progresses I gradually found myself being pulled in and engaged by the characters. When things got a little crazy with Kayn and her group being tasked with a job is really when things started getting interesting. I felt that the first few chapters were a bit redundant with Kayn and Frost practically hooking up every few pages. Siren abilities or not I felt it was a bit overdone. When there is danger and drama I was eating the story up. I liked the surprise twists and turns, though the author does rein things in from going too far when it comes to the "good guys" getting taken out by one of their own.
My biggest complaint about this book is all the "giggling" and "cheering." When the author had the guys "giggling" it just didn't come off right. For me. I'd have used chuckled or something to at least break up the monotony of using "giggled" every time someone laughed. I felt that "cheered" and "praised" were used a bit heavy handed, too. There are other words that can express the same intent without being overly redundant.
As I stated before this book is not meant to be read as a standalone. You need to have read the previous books, from the beginning, to fully follow what is going on and know what the different characters are and the different beings/creatures mentioned in this book. If you have read the previous books then I think that you will enjoy this installment.
I am rating this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. This book has a lot going for it. Since I haven't read the previous books it was a bit hard for me to get into the story from the beginning, but it does get good the deeper you go. I felt that the story was a bit heavy handed on the characters jumping each other's bones and the over usage of certain words so I'm taking off half a star. If you read this series from the beginning and enjoyed it then I encourage you to pick this book up. If you haven't read this series from the beginning and are curious, then start from the beginning and go from there.

** This book was provided to me by NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review **

One reading peeve of mine is being dropped into the middle of a multi-book series without having read the previous books. I tend to read a lot of series, so I approach each one with a “will this stand on its own” approach. Sadly, most of the time the answer is a resounding no.

Ms. Cormack, however, has taken a very might swing at it with Tragic Fools.

I was drawn to this book by a quick blurb describing paranormal abilities, immortals, and colorful mishaps: all things I thoroughly enjoy. What I did not expect was almost slapstick irreverence and enough bawdy ribaldry to make a vicar blush.

Granted, I do not (yet) have a full understanding of what the various Clans in the Children of Ankh’s endgame is supposed to be, but damn I enjoyed the widely mixed variety of characters and situations. Throughout the constant death, emerging powers and nigh constant demon slaying, the reader can really get a feel for this totally misfit band of Ankh immortals and how they approach the tasks they are given. Do they do things right and/or efficiently? I would guess never. Are they entertaining and enticing as hell? Absolutely.

Quite honestly, I cannot wait to read the other books in the series. The childish humor and amazingly well thought out paranormal aspects of the various situations that Ankh gets themselves into have made me a fan. Plus, I’m not hooked in on seeing if the newbies can get through Testing.

Tragic Fools Book #5 in the main series and I am still in love with all the characters in Kim Cormack's world. Reading this series from the beginning is beneficial as there are quite a few characters introduce right out of the gate, along with the main story line there are also subplots. Each book has answered many questions left from the breadcrumbs creatively placed and created a more questions as to what will happen next. I recommend reading them in order from book #1 Sweet Sleep. For extra pleasure and context I also recommend the side series for Lexy's story line starting with Wild Thing. Grab a glass of wine, Twinkies and a box of tissue and come along on this comical rollercoaster ride.

Kim's use of comedy throughout this series in the midst of a messed up situation is genius. Her use of italics for inner thought and psychic communication is key to understanding how these immortals communicate.

Three Clans - Ankh, Trinity and Triad. Friends, Enemies, Prophecies, Oracles, Healers, Psychics, Dark Entities, Demons, Sirens, Lycanthropes, Conduits and Dragons. What could possibly go wrong?

The heroine, Kayn, is a hot, steamy, accident prone, sexually amped up mess since her Conduit abilities reared its head in her Testing to become an immortal, sacrificial lamb. The Daughters of Seth Prophecy has begun and all the dark entities want to stop it from happening, leaving Kayn and her immortal friends in some very interesting, creative situations that will will leave you in stitches from how hard you laugh. Performing their immortal duties, collecting new immortals, waiting for a baby to be born before they can begin training the group for the next Testing, all well trying to circumvent a new romantic relationship, ill timed psychic conversations with an opposing Clan member.

Let me start this review by saying how awesome Kim is. We are long friends on Facebook since I first started reading/reviewing her books. Sadly my dad passed away in January and this amazing friend/author sent me a copy of the book to help me cope with his loss. I say this because when you begin reading her series you can't help but become friends with her...I may have even gone as far as threatening to go stalk her in Canada.

Anyway on to the book... Tragic Fools is the fifth in the Children of Ankh series and I have to say Kim's humor is like no other. There were plenty of moments I giggled to myself especially when theres talk of mass murder. I have always lived Kayn and her evolution into being a Dragon. Kim Cormack has a way of presenting her story that let's readers know she was either waiting for the FBI to look through her search history or cackling to herself as she wrote....probably both.

Characters are fun and interesting there are a lot, but easy to follow. I love the Clan aspect of the story and everyone looking put for one another, the bonds formed with members of the clans, like a big ole happy family. This is a series I consistently recommend to others.

This installment in the COA universe slowly, almost unnoticeably, expands the focus from Kayn to more of the other clan members, and at the end you realize you are rooting for a lot more than just one (and not exclusively Ankh). It's like zooming out from a larger-than-life semi-goddess, lazily climbing and very slowly encompassing more and more in a bird's eye view - or is it a Dragon's eye? - until you get a glimpse of a whole legendary Universe ruled by Gods, before a cosmic crash back to Earth.

This author is awesome, towards the end the twists and turns will blow your mind. She has a way with words, a vivid imagination, a big heart, a dorky sense of humor, a very sensitive soul and, maybe, a bitter experience with human nature which she survived and become a better person, just like her characters.

I dwelled a lot on it, trying to decide if the title is telling and why she chose to sum them up as tragic fools... Oh well, aren't we all?

Can't wait to find out more!

Oh, what twisty lives these immortals lead. I absolutely love this series. It's super exciting and beyond PG 13. Frost & Kayn are a really awesome love story, but the action is what keeps bringing me back. And the world building is just phenomenal. Kim is excellent at setting a scene with just enough detail. The characters keep growing and I can't wait to see if Kayn & Zach finally get control over their super powers.
There's a big twist in here regarding the gods. Reading this series, I knew the gods were there, but they are such a backseat to Kayn, Kevin, Zach, & Frost that I never saw it coming. It was definitely hinted at but I am obsessed these 4 characters enough that I completely ignored it.

An we talk about the cover? It is stunning! I am truly impressed with the cover!
I read this book in less than 3 hours, that’s the fastest I have read a book. (Don’t quote me 😂 cuz that might not be true)
Things got crazy with Kayn and her group being tasked with a job. That’s when things got more interesting! I was in for the ride! I loved how she pieced everything together in the last book of this series. It answered all my questions and thoughts I still had left. This is the last book in this series and I’m sad about that but happy how things ended.

"Comedy, Fantasy, Suspense...what else do a reader need? Tragic Fools is a funny, entertaining read with paranormal elements. I enjoyed this book a lot, the world that the author created is definitely compelling. The characters are well-developed and interesting.

I recommend!
