Can an Alpha who’s lost everything help an Omega with nothing?
Levi I lost everything important six years ago and walked away from the life I thought I’d wanted to find solace on my mountain. No one comes here, and no one knows where I am. When Ezra turns up on my doorstep, I suspect he’s a reporter, who doesn’t know when to let a story die. It’s soon obvious he doesn’t remember me as my Hollywood persona, and the fear in his eyes tells me he’s running from demons, the same as me. The difference is, mine are dead, and his are very much alive, and in pursuit. It’s been a long time since I cared about anyone or anything, but Ezra could change that if I let him.
Ezra I was sure I was too smart not to recognize an abusive jerk when I met one—so how did I end up the virtual prisoner of my Alpha boyfriend, who turned out to be a drug dealer with a shady past and violent present, who wants to control my future? When I saw him kill someone, I ran, but he’s after me. I don’t know if he wants me back, or if he wants to silence me, but I’ll die before I go back to him. I have nothing left until I stumble across Levi’s cabin where I find hope for survival, and maybe a second chance at happiness with the curmudgeonly man living in terrain as rugged as he is. Brash is a standalone Mpreg romance with a salty Alpha, sweet but scared Omega, and the happily ever after you’re craving.
Initially I thought this was the first book I read by Eva Leon. I often recognize an author's style, but this piece of work was at first very grim. This is the second time I recently read a similar story, but the authors handled it differently. An Omega (Ezra) nearly frost bitten shows up at the house of an Alpha recluse (Levi) and he is not amused.
Levi wants his solitude to grieve the lose of those he loved all at one time. He is carrying around a ton of guilt. Sometimes only living in the bottom of a bottle of strong liquor can slightly ease the immense weight that is crushing him. Suicide is not a far fetched idea. And now he's forced to deal with THIS OMEGA because a blizzard has them snowed in. The roads are impassable.
Levi's had very little Human contact by choice and his social skills are rusty. So he comes across like a big probably crazy mountain man with his scraggly beard, long tangled locks, and smelling of booze. And he's not wrong. Ezra hesitantly accepts the man's reluctant help. He can tell he's a bother, but looking outside at the winter wonderland Ezra knows he has no choice, but to try not to be murdered.
What surprises them both - the longer they are forced together, the more they want to be together. This was a book I enjoyed. It has plot twists, danger, a blizzard, long silences, a roaring fireplace that warmth and was soothing. Goons, snowplows, cathartic releases. Misunderstandings, unexpected happy moments. Fear and a fierce desire to protect. Bedside vigil.
So much is packed into this story, I definitely recommend it to those who enjoy hurt/comfort books, rescuing oneself and your beloved, just the right mixture of suspense, tension, questions, and finally resolution - a HEA & my favorite Mpreg :0)
Predictable beginning with O in trouble and A rescuing him. I was surprised at what point the bad guy appeared in the story, but it made sense. Plenty of time to savor the HEA. There were a lot of directions the author could have taken the HEA and I think her choice was okay. There were details on A history that were repeated and briefly touched on which could have made HEA a richer experience; but author chose more predictable, but still sweet, route. Short and sweet. You like O in jeopardy and A rescuing..this is tailor (author) made for you.
The back stories for the two characters, though traumatic, makes this story feel right. it's not just throwing two people together and saying well you're here, I'm here so why not. It gives you a bases of an Omega in need of protection and love, and an Alpha who can provide both but has insecurities that might get in the way.
I was happy for both Levi and Ezra, they went through so much pain and suffering. Levi morning the death of his husband and baby, Ezra running away to escape his abusive Alpha. In the end they both found love and happiness, fate was on their side.
DNF. This just rushed past the plot to dive in to the smut, which was really glossed over. The writing and characters just weren't a level where I felt compelled to finish this.
Not what I was expecting but a fairly easy to read and entertaining story. Levi is dealing with significant loss and decided to live under the radar. Ezra is running away from a toxic and unsafe situation. They found each other and each saved the other. Cute and Happy ending!
