Escape to Peony Harbor this Christmas! A complete standalone novella in the Aster Island series. Grab a cup of hot cocoa, curl up with a blanket, and relax by the fire as the snow falls quietly on Peony Harbor...
Anna Harper hasn’t been home for Christmas in over three years—ever since she got promoted to editor in chief of the popular Stylish magazine in New York City. But this year is different. When a slew of layoffs hit the glam company a week before the holidays, Anna is both out of a job and in need of a change of scenery.
When Anna returns home to the cozy little island off the coast of New England, she’s only expecting to stay a few days at her sister’s beachfront inn. But when she steps foot on Aster Island, she’s in for one festive surprise. On her first day there, Anna runs into a mysterious guest at the inn—while wearing elf pajamas no less—and although she hates to admit it, Ryan Jackson is bringing up feelings in Anna she's not sure she’s ready to explore.
Anna’s dreams of settling down and having a family were pushed aside as her career skyrocketed, but maybe it’s time for a change. This year, something’s in the air, and a little pinch of Christmas magic is trying to prove her wrong. As the holidays swing into full gear, Anna must make a decision. Will she give herself over to a Christmas miracle, or when New Year’s Eve rolls around, will she be back in New York City… alone?
This is not my usual fare as I am not a straight romance reader most of the time. I generally prefer to have a shifter or vampire in the mix but this turned out to not need that. This is the first thing I have read by this author and I was thoroughly pulled into the story from the very beginning. The characters are interesting and have a life you can visualize and relate to because you know someone like them or you are like them yourself.
Anna Harper hasn't been home in over three years for Christmas. After she got her promotion to the editor in chief of Stylish magazine in New York City there just never seemed any time to do things like relaxing and visiting family. This year is different because layoffs have hit the company the week before Christmas and Anna becomes one of the casualties and in need of a change of scenery.

Ryan Jackson is bringing up feelings she has buried for a while as she pursued her career, but she is not so sure she is ready for them.
This was one of those sweet and kind of sugary stories I would find annoying but for some reason, I really liked this. I think a lot of people would find it just as enjoyable.
I love a good romance story but I like the old fashioned kind with a sweet relationship that leaves something to the imagination. The building of a relationship of a man and a woman who realize the chemistry that is going on between the two of them without the blatant sex. This story fit the bill. It was sweet, set on an island, the main characters truly built a beginning relationship and the toe had a plausible Bach story. You could feel the joy of the Christmas season we with the pages. I look forward to reading the series to come.
This little book has done more for my joy of Christmas than you can know. Covid has been a real downer and to read this has been so up-lifting. Thank you.
When the holidays come around I tend to gravitate toward holiday romances. In particular, novellas that I can fit in-between all the chaos the season brings. That's one of the reasons I picked up Christmas in Peony Harbor. Another was that I was really in the mood for a small town setting (another catnip for me).
I was able to breeze through this novella a bit faster than I realized during a few sessions here and there. Partly that's because I was drawn toward seeing what would happen next at the small island town of Peony Harbor was established and also to see where Anna and Ryan's character arcs and growing friendship would lead. It was here that I was a bit disappointed, but maybe I was hoping for more than the length of this book could give. I was hoping to see Anna's growth on the page and some more development of Ryan's character. I also felt that I needed some more depth to their interactions while falling for each other. Again, a novella length story makes it challenging, but as a reader I was still left wanting more.
Despite this, I think I'll be trying out the first novel in this series. The town seems like a great setting. Some of the characters could be fun to read if given the chance to show themselves on the page more. And being that it's centered around Eloise, and "older" character, I'm going to give it a chance. Everyone deserves a story at any age, not just the twenty-somethings.
All-in-all this was a still a quick, cozy holiday read. A bit light on the romance. A bit light on the story depth. But worth giving a shot.
This is a well-written, sweet story about Anna, a self-proclaimed workaho!ic. She was more than stunned to get her pink slip the week before Christmas, but it gave her the opportunity to go to Astor Island for Christmas with her sister, who ran a quaint little inn in Peony Harbor. While there, Ana made a new friend of one of th inn's guests, as well as getting reacquainted with many of her old friends. She attended all of the traditional events with her sister and her friends, including the tree-lighting ceremony and the ugly sweater contest. Just being in Peony Harbor again renewed her Christmas joy. Being offered a new job didn't hurt her heart, either. This is a great goodread, with all the coziness Christmas in a small town brings. I am looking forward to the next book in this series! Thanks, Ms Summers!!!!
I love holiday romance stories like no other. This quick read was a wonderful addition to my collection! The story's heroine reminded me of myself in some ways - losing myself in a career and not meeting personal expectations. It was a wonderful reminder that you aren't supposed to "live to work", but rather, you should "work to live." It was a tough lesson to learn, but in the end, Anna found that family is as much important as working is, and putting yourself out there to meet new people is not so intimidating as it sounds. For Anna, loss definitely lead to happiness during the holidays.
This was one of the best Christmas books I've ever read. It's so easy to get caught up in your career and miss out on opportunities like families and holiday get-togethers, and then it disappears, all your hard work. This book teaches you what's more important in life. This is my first book by this author, and I'm looking forward to reading more of her books.
Being laid off unexpectedly just before Christmas is a huge grinch move. Anna gets notified and escorted out suddenly one morning. With her head spinning she head home to Aster Island Maine. A few anonymous gifts to fellow laid off employees and a chance meeting make the holidays so much sweeter.
A truly feel good romantic story. It won't be the last book I'll read by Ms. Summers. After being disappointed in the last book I read, it was a delight to discover this talented author. The story ended just as it was supposed to without being so superficial that it wasn't believable. I got duct into the story from the very beginning.
Work is all Anna does until she loses her job just before Christmas. She goes home to Peony Harbor. She renews old friendships and meets Ryan. This is a truly sweet story set at Christmas.
The author delivers a very straight forward and easy reading romance. No real plot twists, just sweetness and nice people falling in love. My type of romance!
This is so well written you feel as if you can see the characters like on a Hallmark movie. It touches you on so many levels. The interaction between characters is very well written. It has a natural feeling to it.
This story was a sweet innocent adult love story. Not loaded with over the top lust and groping. Characters were well developed as the story progressed. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
The author writes about finding yourself and giving your self a nudge to do something about celebrating Christmas and meeting new people the characters are lovely well worth a read
This book caused pause and reflection to occur in my mind. What a great and meaningful read on family, Christmas, friends, and joyful celebrating. The romance was the icing on the Cake. Great writing and style.
I don't know how I missed this book first in the series. A wonderful book on a winter's day even if Christmas is over . The characters draw you in with in the first chapter . A must read
Good Christmas story, moved very fast for me but still not bad. It is really like another authors books set on Nantucket, only her books have more depth to them.
Anna is let go from her job just before Christmas so she heads home to Aster Island. She is able to relax and enjoy all the Christmas festivities while adjusting to the loss of her job and figuring out what is next for her.
This was a good book how ever I do wish that the author had done more to make it more interesting. I look forward to reading more of this authors work.
This book was a breath of fresh air! Anna loses her job & goes home to Aster to visit her sister for Christmas. She hasn’t been “home” for Christmas for a few years. Her sister owns an inn. One of the guests meets Anna & a new life starts for both Ryan & Anna. It’s a sweet book that anyone could read - even youth!
