Out of all the members of enhanced HERO team Eli was the most mysterious character. Well, the mystery is no more! Ms Sue put together a story that at times broke my heart but also showed that love and caring could bring the light into the darkest corners of the soul and show the way. Every chapter slowly unveiled what Eli went through. I will not tell more but say this - it was raw, painful and full of anguish for and from Eli. Remembering him from previous books, so many things he did and said made absolute sense now.

Daniel Connelly is an exceptional agent but what sets him apart from the rest of the team's members is his compassion, gentle nature, ability to love without reserve and so much patience. This time author gave romance equal time and measure with suspense in the book, and I am glad to say that Daniel was not the immediate magical fix for everything that was broken in Eli but he was the catalyst that Eli needed to see his worth and want to live. I loved the quiet support and understanding Daniel gave Eli without him asking. He was what Eli needed the most - someone who cared and saw past everything underneath to the man struggling.

The case was strongly connected to Eli's past so it's was doubly important the way it was solved. It was suspenseful and steadily paced. Even though the words I love you were uttered from both men's lips and I felt so much love coming from Daniel, Eli still had long way to go. He made a good start though. This story was low on steam but high on angst and suspense. So much angst and hurt/comfort! I loved it! Copy received for my honest and unbiased review

Chi di voi conosce la serie “Enhanced World” di Victoria Sue si sarà sicuramente chiesto chi sarebbe stato il partner di Eli e quanto sarebbe stato difficile per loro legare dal momento che il potenziato non riesce a essere se stesso neanche con i suoi più cari amici.
Se avevamo un’idea di cosa potesse essergli successo in passato, questo sesto volume ci fa capire quanto in realtà mancasse ancora per riuscire a comprendere il suo atteggiamento. Eli è un ragazzo che ha difficoltà a relazionarsi, il passato lo ha segnato e vivere la normalità per lui è impossibile. Quando Daniel gli viene assegnato come partner per lui non è facile.
Daniel è una persona buona, così buona che malgrado il suo compito sia solo quello di essere al fianco di Eli come partner lavorativo, non riesce a non preoccuparsi per questo giovane solo, che ha bisogno di aiuto.

"Everybody Burns" was absolutely wonderful: angst-y and tough and gut-wrenching, heartfelt and romantic and hopeful. I've always wanted to know more about Eli, the angry, silent agent with such destructive abilities, but after Vance and Sam's very frustrating story, I was terrified I wasn't going to love his.
I was so damn happy to be wrong: the first book, and Talon and Finn's story, will always be my favourite, but this one is a very close second.
I loved both MCs so much: Eli's character was as complex as I imagined, angry and guilt-riddled, traumatized and scared, but he still manages to retain a sweet side, a gentler one, a desperate need to be taken care of that Daniel is very happy to do. Daniel was fantastic: he's steady and reliable, a bit broken himself, but also a natural caretaker and the way he wanted to keep Eli safe and happy was so sweet and swoony I nearly cried. He in no way tries to fix Eli, and his past, but he still manages to be there for him, to slowly become his safe space and the one person who'll never intentionally hurt him. I loved both of them, and their relationship? I lived for it. It's the loveliest slow-burn, it's mistrust and dislike to love and safety and taking care of one another. Both of them are aware that love can't miraculously cure Eli of his trauma, and recovery is a long road, but it can make it easier to cope with.
Apart from Eli's background, the plot is trigger-riddled, so heed the TW before you start: it was a tough story to follow, and it made me feel angry and helpless.
But Eli and Daniel's relationship is anything but: it's sweet and lovely and respectful, with less heat than the previous books, but there's still an undercurrent of tension and chemistry between them.
I absolutely adored this book and I'm not sure how I'll be able to wait for Sawyer and Adam's stories, if Victoria Sue decides to write them: I'm hoping she will and I have a pretty good idea about who one of their LI might be *cackles*

My favorite of the series as of yet. If there's someone with a shitty past that deserves unconditional love, it's Eli. And it's nice to see him not just get his happily ever after, but also redemption from his demons.
I seriously hope we get more books in this series with Sawyer and Adam. It is a great one, and there's still more stories left to tell.

this is one of my favorite series.. i love seeing what everyone is doing.. what they have to figure out.. what is going on.. and who has what going on in their lives.. it is amazing.. and this one made me happy. it made me smile and it was an emotional roller coaster of feelings and made me think about crying a couple times while wanting to throw my kindle the next page haha. i loved it!

Come vi racconto di questo libro senza versare un fiume di lacrime e senza sentirmi i polmoni in fiamme perché le lacrime di impediscono di respirare? Da quando è iniziata questa serie, Eli è stato il personaggio più sfuggente di tutti. Alle volte sembrava comunicasse solo con qualche sguardo e qualche parola mormorata e, di certo, non l’ho mai visto fare “comunella” con questo o quell’altro ragazzo della squadra. Si intuiva, però, che ci fosse qualcosa di molto forte nel suo personaggio e che il fuoco che è capace di creare, vista la sua natura, non brucia solo esternamente ma anche e, soprattutto, dentro di lui. Fino a questo punto della serie, credo che Eli sia il ragazzo che ha maggiormente sofferto, quello che è stato dato in pasto ai mostri e dimenticato da tutti. Aveva sette anni quando un mattino la sua mamma non si svegliò più facendolo precipitare nelle maglie di un sistema fallato e corrotto che lo lasciò nelle mani di un mostro reale, peggiore di quanto possiamo mai immaginare. Non voglio aggiungere nulla sul suo passato, sappiate solo che è davvero doloroso e che ad ogni nuova scoperta su di lui mi si spezzava un po’ di più il cuore. Il dolore e i soprusi a cui è stato sottoposto per anni lo hanno portato a non fidarsi di nessuno, a non fare amicizia con nessuno, meno che meno con qualcuno della sua squadra. Da un lato si vergogna troppo di quello che potrebbero pensare gli altri di lui e, dall’altro, è più semplice tenersi alla larga da tutti, in questo modo non rischia di rimanere male all’ennesimo sopruso. Non ha mai avuto un posto da poter chiamare casa, né qualcuno a cui poter fare affidamento nemmeno solo per qualche ora, ma le cose stanno per cambiare quando Gregory decide di affiancarlo all’ex agente dell’FBI, Daniel Connelly, anche se nessuno dei due riesce a capire per quale motivo siano finiti a lavorare in coppia se, entrambi, hanno a che fare con lo stesso problema di fondo. Daniel, infatti, sta scappando da un lavoro che negli ultimi tempi gli è diventato insopportabile e ritrovarsi come partner un uomo come Eli che è evidente abbia sofferto gli stessi dolori con cui lui ha fatto i conti per anni non è proprio la situazione ideale. Ma essendo un uomo dotato di una pazienza infinita e di una grande compassione è disposto a tentare il tutto per tutto per convincere Eli di fidarsi di lui almeno come partner se proprio non riesce a dare di più.

Eli è un uomo spezzato, distrutto nell’anima, un giovane che ha una missione da compiere e poi sparirà abbandonando la squadra perché ritiene di non essere all’altezza dei suoi compagni. Daniel, invece, non ha nessuna intenzione di perderlo come partner di lavoro e come amico, lo vorrebbe anche come qualcosa di più ma è pronto a mettersi da parte e ad accontentarsi di quel poco che Eli riesce a dargli ma su una cosa proprio non transige: Eli deve capire di essere meritevole di tutto il bello che il mondo può offrirgli.

Non so dirvi quanto ho pianto leggendo questa storia, Eli con tutto il suo bagaglio di dolore è qualcosa che strazia l’anima. Daniel, dal canto suo, è un uomo attento e capace di dare supporto anche solo con uno sguardo. Insieme potrebbero essere perfetti, Eli potrebbe ricevere tutta quella protezione che non ha mai conosciuto sentendosi finalmente parte di qualcosa e Daniel potrebbe soddisfare il bisogno innato in lui di prendersi cura degli altri, ma devono imparare a fidarsi l’uno dell’altro e, per farlo dovranno fare un viaggio duro e irto di pericoli non solo per i traumi del passato ma anche perché quel passato terribile sta allungano di nuove le sue mani su Eli e tutto il resto della squadra.

Anche questa volta, l’autrice ha creato un mix perfetto di suspense, amore e rapporti di amicizia che scaldano il cuore, il tutto coronato da continui colpi di scena che non lasciano al lettore un attimo di respiro. Che altro posso dire? Dovete, assolutamente, leggere tutta la serie e vi assicuro che non ve ne pentirete.

This is one of my favorite series. Book number six is about Daniel and Eli's story. Eli comes from a troubled past. A common trait amongst most of the enhanced. A past that he is still trying to escape but haunts him in his dreams. A past that has him left feeling undeserving of being loved. Daniel is not enhanced but fights demons of his own. His career has brought him in contact with innocent victims and the dark evil in the world. Daniel's character is a man with a huge heart who wants to care and fix others. A reader can't help but fall in love with this man. Together these two must overcome their past and learn to trust one another. Each book in this series I swear "this is my favorite couple" and then the next book comes out and I fall equally as hard for that couple. Ms. Victoria Sue has way of weaving a love story from the darkest of fabrics to a beautiful quilt. She pulls all the emotions and insecurities and love and hope and pieces it together into an amazing Happily ever after.

Brilliant As Always

I absolutely loved Eli and Daniel, their emotional rollercoaster of a story is a great addition to the amazing Enhanced series. Eli's memories were heartbreaking but I loved seeing Daniel creep through the miniscule gaps in his walls and show him the care and love he needed.

Another great book in this series! It was definitely worth the wait and, as usual, it ended way to soon for me (I never want to see them end). I loved seeing Eli finally get his HEA and it was great getting to sit in and watch all the guys hang out and do their thing. Such a wonderful story. Totally recommend!!!

✔ Letto! Finalmente ho conosciuto la storia di Eli, e me lo immaginavo già, che sarebbe stata tosta e dura. Cosa porrà una persona ad evitare di farsi coinvolgere, a stringere amicizia amicizie avere una relazione. L'abuso! La sfiducia negli essere umani. Il diversi svegliare una mattina per festeggiare i suoi 7 anni di vita in questa terra e vedere il tuo mondo fatto a pezzi. La tua dolce mamma che non si sveglierà mai più. Perdere le tue certezze e essere consegnato in mano ai mostri, a un pedofilo... che si spacciava da persona per bene e tutore dei bambini.
Un uomo malvagio e senza cuore legato ad altre persone peggio di lui.
Il piccolo Eli subirà negli anni abusi di ogni tipo, da ogni adulto che conoscerà fino ad arrivare ai suoi amici.
16 anni dopo, Eli e una persona solitaria. Pensa che non ha bisogno di un partner ed è disposto anche ad andarsene in caso la presenza di Daniel Connelly gli sia imposta come partner. La sua paura è ancora più grande, perché Daniel, quando lo guarda sembra vedere la sua anima e ogni sua ombra.
Daniel è uno dei fratelli maggiori di Vance. Ha lavorato anni per il FBI e faceva parte del team che catturavano i mostri. Ha aiutato a salvare tanti bambini, ma questo gli stava facendo a pezzi. Adesso lavora con i potenziati. Quando vedi Eli, riconosce subito in lui i segni dell'abuso. Eli rappresenta tutto quello che lui stava scappando.
Ma quando i mostri ritornano nel mondo di Eli, sarà Daniel il primo a mettersi in prima linea per lui.
La storia è bellissima, vedere Eli fragile come un bambino e duro come il soldato che è mi ha fatto sanguinare il cuore per lui.
Vedere Daniel che ogni giorno, sarà li a rompere un pezzettino alla volta della dura corazza che avvolge Eli, sarà bellissimo. Un lavoro di pazienza e amore. Per qualcuno come lui che pensa di non meritarsene, per qualcuno come Eli che pensa di non esserne capace di amare.
Sarà la scoperta di un amore dolce, lento e profondo.

Ma può questa serie diventare sempre più bella? Sì, ve lo assicuro. Questo romanzo è bellissimo, struggente, doloroso, pieno di una lieve e calda speranza. La trama poliziesca è angosciante e l'argomento di base trattato, l'abuso sui minori, è affrontato con una forza che ferisce il cuore. L'autrice ha saputo renderlo vivido, senza usare immagini o scene crudeli, ma semplicemente narrando la paura, il terrore, il senso di impotenza e quello di assenza di importanza che è rimasto sepolto nell'anima di Eli. La figura di questo potenziato era rimasta misteriosa fino ad ora, ed è stato avvincente poterlo conoscere, così come lo è stato conoscere Daniel. La coppia Daniel/Eli ha così tanti, insospettabili punti di compatibilità e altrettanti nodi di fragilità, da avermi lasciata esterrefatta. Accudimento e diffidenza giocano, tra le pagine del libro, una battaglia appassionante, senza esclusione di colpi.
Più introspettivo degli altri ma altrettanto ricco di svolte, "Tutti bruciano" è una lettura che lascia il segno.
La resa italiana è buona, con pochissimi errori, più che altro nella divisione in sillabe.

4.5 Stars. It's been quite awhile since I read a book in this series but this reminded me how much I enjoyed this series. I really like both Daniel and Eli and I liked them together. It's a slow burn romance which works given the trauma of Eli's childhood and I really like that there was no magical fix for his issues and that it effects his sex life as an adult and what he's willing or not willing to do. It made it seem a lot more believable (no magic penis to make everything all better). They made a great partnership both working and personal. I loved the patience and support that Daniel gave to Eli so that he wasn't the magical fix but more like a catalyst that helped Eli see that he was worth something and there was more than vengeance. The case was all wrapped around Eli's past so the relationship and the suspense were integral to each other and both had equal footing in this book. Low on steam which was fitting and high on angst and suspense. Looking forward to more in this series.

I feel like this one was redemption from the last book.

Eli and Daniel were a good pairing. Daniel hinted at wanting to be a Dom, but that rarely came in to play in this book, there was no other talk of that other than him saying he's gone to BDSM clubs haha. I am a little surprised that the Dom/Sub aspect was brought up since Eli had a traumatic childhood. But to each their own.

Overall I do enjoy this series and i wonder who Sawyer will end up with...Richard maybe? but who knows when that book will come out.

Finally, we get to see Eli's point of view! You know, it was surprising how the most fucked up member of the team had the least drama in his book. And I don't mean it was boring, but both Eli and Daniel's reactions to traumatic events or memories were quiet, almost calm. There were no prolonged arguments, stupid misunderstandings or miscommunications, which was refreshing. My only criticism is that the ending was rushed; just as the case ended, we immediately flashed forward, read a couple of disjointed domestic scenes and it was over.

This is such a great series and I was so glad to read this book. I will admit, it has been awhile since I read the last book so it took me a little to catch up but I love all these guys so much. Damn, Eli has been through so much and I loved watching Daniel just hold him up and support him when he needed it. There were a few things that were left lingering to me that I felt were mentioned but then ignored, but maybe they will show up in the next book.

Fin dall’inizio della serie desideravo scoprire cosa nascondesse l’essere restio di Eli.

Ciò che viene alla luce è abominevole e terribile. Non possiamo neanche nasconderci dietro il modo di dire tutto questo è solo fantasia di chi scrive, perché quante di queste situazioni abbiamo sentito nei notiziari alla tv o sui quotidiani?

Come si può chiamare uomini persone che calpestano i diritti primari di piccoli innocenti? Come si può ritenerli esseri umani se sono solo animali perversi e malvagi?

La storia di Eli devasta e dilania il cuore, tutto quello che ha dovuto subire è terrificante, ritrovarsi poi non ascoltato da chi avrebbe dovuto prestare la massima attenzione è ancora più tragico.

Accanto a Eli c’è Daniel che ha visto e toccato con mano le brutture di mostri che si accaniscono su vittime innocenti per bramosia, lussuria, potere e soldi.

Un mondo in cui esseri del genere continuano a proliferare, nonostante si faccia il possibile per debellarli, l’unica certezza che può essere d’aiuto a chi ha subito è avere fiducia in chi ti tende la mano, guardare all’altro con fiducia, la stessa che un bambino mette nello sguardo di chi lo ama al di sopra di tutto.

Tutti bruciano è una lettura che non si può perdere e che va interiorizzata per poter ancora guardare il mondo con occhi benevoli e rivolgersi a chi ci circonda con sguardo e animo fiduciosi.

Ancora una volta Victoria Sue mi ha trasmesso emozioni che hanno fatto battere il mio cuore e versare lacrime di un dolore lacerante, stile impeccabile, armonioso e travolgente.

I loved the story. Even though Eli and Daniel are both main characters, it's more centered round Eli. I think that, if you have read all previous books, you more or less guessed what may have happened to Eli when he was a child. The book does not go into real details, it insinuates, but really, that's equally hard to read. And yes, I cried.

Eli was an incredible character and that has his inner conflicts and he deals with them, or at least tries to. Daniel on the other hand was a sweet sweet character that’s searching for a purpose and no, he doesn’t use Eli that way, on the contrary, he really cares for him.

Compared to the other books in the series, this one stays more on the characters and Eli’s struggles than on the case. Actually, the case doesn’t get relevance until more than 50% of the book I think (I was too invested in Eli and Daniel to pay attention). So if you are waiting for an action driven story, this one relegates it to a second plane.

I don’t want to go into much detail because I don’t want to spoil anything but the only reason it’s not a full five star for me it’s because I wanted more info on Eli’s powers and there’s a part that I think wasn’t explored enough. But it may be just me *grin*.

Overall, it was a heart-wrenching, heartbreaking, sweet and difficult story that I think Sue respected and portrayed quite well.
