The Old Coaching Inn
The Old Coaching Inn is a gentle, light-hearted, stand-alone cosy mystery set on the south coast of Cornwall. For forty years, The Old Coaching Inn had stood empty and neglected. Battered by winter storms, a silent testament to a bygone era. Nearly all former innkeepers and clientele were long forgotten and the Inn's future looked bleak. And then its owner died and the Inn was sold. The purchaser was Charlie Everton, a widower who saw the Inn as a potential home and the means of beginning a new chapter in his life. Renovation work went smoothly and Charlie was looking forward to his first Christmas in Cornwall... until he found one of the locals from the neighbouring village, stone-dead. But the death was not a straight-forward case, for it posed more questions than answers, and as time went by, Charlie felt that he and the Inn were in some way part of the puzzle.

A bit too much frothing enough Christie charm!!!
The synopsis about this book , which made me buy the book in the first place, was misleading. I was about 80% into the book which quite frankly "was an awful lot of fluff. Too many people ,daft bits telling me things e.g. Someone putting down a cup of tea whilst the other persisting straight of a Micra car. All really daft points, simply to fill out the storyline ,which was very weak to say the least. One character Tracey , explains the entire plot," to a teddy bear ", while inside a police cell. Agatha Christie this is not

A gentle blend of family life and mysterious happenings.
Glorious setting, a family who care for and about each other introduced to a close knit community which welcomes them eagerly.
Strange happenings, hints of possible mysteries, enter various newcomers, cosy socialising in local hostelries.
The story unfolds against variable weather conditions and assorted Cornish backdrops with touches of history.
It is a light read but fun and is ideal cosy comfort.
I preferred it to other titles read, written by this author. It is written in a very chatty style, resembling a recall over a cup of tea so not to everyone's taste but a chat in lockdown is great medicine!
My 5🌟 is for keeping me happily turning the pages and enjoying the unfolding of the various mysteries.

I didn’t get past the first couple of chapters. So badly written I don’t even know how it got published.
When a book needs padding so badly that it contains a (irrelevant) description of a waitress placing teapot, milk jug, sugar bowl and cups on to a table then it’s a goner from the start.
It reads as if somebody said ‘this book needs to be 300 words longer’ so the author just went back and tacked in trivia. Over. And. Over.

Excellent!
I have never read any books by this author,and was pleasantly surprised. An absolutely riveting read from beginning to end. The characters are endearing and the story flows seamlessly ( some typos but wasn't really bothered.) The tale tells of murder, ghosts and smuggling. Couldn't put it down!

It’s possibly not fair to write a review before I finish, but I can’t face another two hours in this book. The story could be good. The setting is probably lovely. I find the characters cardboard cutouts, the emotions non-existent and the pedestrian padding excruciating. I really struggled with so much narrative being driven by dialogue as the only voice I can discern is Daphne. Not for me.

Lovely story, wonderful characters and a good mystery with a happy ending. It would be nice to have a sequel to see how Charlie and Elderflower's romance blossoms.

Winter adventures
This made a change from reading murder novels. It was an entertaining read not too demanding. The plot was involved towards the end but all the loose ends came together and in part it was a happy ending.

Wholesome
It was interesting, well written nicely woven tale of many people. A british tale. A simple and pure story. I will recommend it if you are into mysteries and enjoy natural writing

A cosy mystery
Loved this book. One thing I disliked, but can’t say as will give away some of the story. Loved the way the characters developed, Cornwall is a magical place. Good story line.

I enjoyed this book very much. I really don't understand the negative reviews as most of the books I've read in this genre, Cozy Mysteries, are structured pretty much the same as this. Maybe not meant for all readers - I enjoy a little "fluff" now and then in this crazy, cruel, unpredictable world!

Charming!
A charming story. I normally do not like stories where all ends are neatly wrapped but this one does it in such a loving, natural manner that makes the reader wanting more with each sentence read.

A pleasant enough read and some nice aspects and connections of characters. Gives a nice feeling of the Cornish small village atmosphere.
