It is with the second volume that this series started to comfortable in its skin, at least until the fifth volume. This is when it becomes a coming of age story in the backdrop of the Japanese entertainment industry. It also gives us the second major plot of which is the vendetta story of the male twin, as a consequences of the events in the first volume.
This is where everything started to coalesce and fill the void vacated by Act-Age, without the predatory undertones of that lamented and cancelled series. The supporting cast also starts to fill up, which will provide the impetus for the various thread and storylines later on.
The first volume of Oshi No Ko was possibly one of the most incredible openers to a manga series ever. So I didn’t expect the second volume would top that. It, of course, didn’t. But it’s still a solid 4 Star read and has me dying to carry on with this series because I feel like overall it has the potential to be one of my all time favourites.
A decade has passed since the murder of beloved pop idol, Ai Hoshino, by a stalker fan. The murderer has never been caught, the case still unsolved. The story followers her twin children, Ruby and Aqua, who are now of high school age. This is a tale of reincarnation and of revenge. Ruby wants to follow in her Mother’s footsteps and become an idol in her memory. Aqua has no desire to be in a spotlight, but will he have fame thrust upon him whilst he completes his life mission - to find the person responsible for Ai’s untimely death!
Okay, now I'm interested. I'm the sort of reader who felt a bit betrayed by the "big twist" was so hidden - misdirection is one thing, but breaking the promise you make to the reader is another - so now that the story is actually moving in its proper direction, I'm much happier. Plus it's basically a mystery. Hard to go wrong with those! (Not true, I realize, but let me have this.)
I hope the anime is better than the manga, the first manga volume was definitely better than this second one. I can’t stand Kana she’s annoying, Ruby and Aqua are okay but the “my brothers got a thing for sisters” line really ruins this for me. The only parts of this that I’m enjoying are the art style and I’m curious about the mystery otherwise I’m not enjoying the direction this manga is going in.
Wow - JUST WOW! I must admit that I wasn't in love with the first volume. It felt quite cringy at times, even though the overall story is interesting. With that said, I'm so positively surprised by the second volume. It seems like manga 1 was just a prequel to the "real" story which is an exciting murder mystery. We learned more about Aqua, Ruby & Kana and I love all 3 of them. Them joining this prestigious school with all of those celebrities is super exciting! I'm totally in Love with Oshi no ko right now.
Pues el misterio está bueno al igual que los datos y crítica sobre la industria del entrenamiento, pero me aburren muchos diálogos y escenas y no me importan muchos de los personajes. Hasta aquí llego.
The pace of this is so much faster than the anime and I think it’s for the worse. The story is still fantastic but I’ll definitely rewatch the anime after I finished the manga.
Welcome back to the world of Oshi no Ko. Aquamarine & Ruby are the twins of former actress and idol Ai Hoshino. The kids are now grow up quite a bit and are in high school. Aqua has continued working with the director from his child acting days, becoming his protege. Ruby wants to be an idol, so Aqua convinces the family to sign her to Strawberry Productions (their label) and start up a new idol group, which they had not done in years. They also join a school with a famous talent program, and again become aquatinted with Kanna - the former child genius actor.
The series is really growing on me. Mengo’s artwork is really stunning, and is definitely the highly for me. Although I don’t find the store the freshest, but the characters are really growing on me. Aqua is still trying to find out his and AI’s murder but it feels so pushed aside to let the rest of the world build. Aqua’s a smart cookie, maybe what he wants.
Ten years after their mother and idol Ai Hoshino was murdered, Ruby and Aqua have mixed feelings about show business. Aqua is only interested in two things: finding his dad (who is likely behind his mother's murder) and keeping Ruby safe. Ruby, however, wants to be just like Ai and chomping at the bit to be an idol.
But I like how each twin got a little eye twinkle from Ai and how Aqua's turns black when he's plotting, or acting like a villain, or thinking of his own personal manhunt. Personally, I'm thinking Aqua is a better actor than he thinks he is.
