Its Thanksgiving on the Sanders Farm.
Clayton Sanders and his collection of friends, family and even a few strangers have managed to keep themselves moderately safe in a vicious new world, brought about by the most massive Coronal Mass Ejection ever seen or recorded. Anything electrical and not protected from the surge of power has been completely fried. Most cars won’t start, the electrical grid has crashed, people with pacemakers in their chests have dropped dead in their tracks, the list goes on and on of things and lives destroyed by an electrical storm that lasted only a few minutes but created a light show that lasted for days. Once the shock wore off, the violence began. Calhoun County has seen rough times, in some ways much rougher than the other rural counties around them. The seat of the county government is a ghost town and the people who have survived three different waves of violence have moved on to what they hope will be greener pastures. Clay and his family have helped as many people as they can but have had to draw the line for now, as they struggle to ensure that their farm and ranch can produce enough food to help feed far more than themselves. Even with a good harvest, they face lean times before the next harvest can be brought in. Helping others has left them with shallow cupboards once more. Still facing problems, the National Guard contingent is trying to restore order, and Greg Holloway has been appointed as the new Sheriff. He faces an uphill battle to reestablish not only law and order, but trust among the surviving citizens for their peace officers, the former officers not having done much to endear themselves to the public. But the Sanders clan and their extended family and friends are about to face a problem much larger than any criminals they’ve had to face. A killer is roaming the highways. A killer that cannot be seen and cannot be fought. Their only hope is to once again cut themselves off from the rest of the world and wait things out. If others will only allow them to.

JUST AS GOOD AS IT GETS. A BOOK THAT BRINGS FAMILY, FRIENDS, & THE COMMUNITY TOGETHER TO SURVIVE

This book is a great story of a group of family members that own large family farm in Tennessee that have bound together to not only take in their friends, some of their community, and even some of the National Guard to survive the aftereffects of a solar flare that has taken out just about all electronics and most forms of transportation. This book and series is about the hardships, the evil that fellow survivors have brought onto others due to the lack of a functioning government at the federal, state, county, and city levels. It's also about the love and compassion for others and the relationships of those on the farm and the community.

N.C. Reed has written another great book in his Ashes (book 11) in his Fire From the Sky series. It's well written, action-packed, heart touching, and interesting from the front cover to the last page. I have really enjoyed this book and series and hope you will too.

This continues to be one of my favorite series of all-time. I like that they are constantly trying to adjust to meet new needs, such as the training of others in the "old ways." Captain Adcock could likely save himself some time in personally briefing his new Jordan lieutenants instead of letting them make their own interpretation before he drops the hammer. I hope there isn't some trend that female officers have Napoleon complexes, but so far they are 0:2. I also have to quibble with Clay when he is discussing the profile of someone who fit the CTG mold and that it required a weak moral compass. I would argue the opposite. To do what was required in that special force group, minimum oversight and not sink into a criminal mindset would require a strong moral compass. You can see it in how the group works together and in the new world how they formed a code of conduct that keeps them from becoming warlords of a sort. I look forward to the next book.

Great series except number 12

I am reluctant to read the next book in this series. Enemies. This is such a great series and I have read them more than once. Each new book that came out, I would start with first book to refresh my memory. The book, Enemies, is so totally different. It seems like N. C. Reed took a vacation and someone else wrote it. The characters seemed to suddenly get stupid and forgot how to fight. Those soldiers, Clay's bunch and Gordys bunch forgot what awesome fighters they were. Twelve of Clays men took out war lords in Africa, yet they and all those they trained seemed to forget everything they were taught. It was disappointing and I kept yelling at my tablet that they were being stupid. That they had fought stronger enemies than this! Maybe I'll skip it and wait for number 13.....

Fantastic series

I have read 424 books (so far) this year (it’s June 28 today) and this is my favorite series so far. It’s an intriguing and interesting story, one that’s actually likely to happen. And the characters are very well written, especially the military ones, who are the sort of people I would hang out with, especially when I was in the military. I would love to learn leadership from Bossman, sniper skills from the quietly intriguing Jody, and knife skills from the terrifying but awesome X. My best friend from the Army, my brother from another mother, is a lot like Big Bear. I can’t wait for the next book & I hope there will be more after that!

A new favorite series

I'm an avid reader. Its rare for me to find a series and not get bored on book two or three. Someone posted about this author on my favorite post apocalyptic authors Facebook book page....and about book eleven coming out. So I downloaded the first book. Then burned through the rest of the series in a week.... Wow! This Author gets you invested in the characters and paints a brutal but realistic view of what could happen. Hard to get bored when the books play out like an intense movie... So...I have a new favorite series. Kudos to the Author. All I can say is.....When is book twelve coming out?

Still fresh

NC reed is in the 11th book of the series and continues to come up with new fresh plots. In this one, the farm is confronted with an epidemic which mirrors what is going on in the real world. This reviewer was recovering from the virus while reading this book so it hit close to home for me.

Clayton Sanders, the protagonist, finally discovers he is not a superhero and assumes a bit more humanity.

As always, I am left wanting to be part of the magnificent crusade of these people to try to ensure that the light of knowledge is not lost at least in this area.

medically ignorant author

How long could it take for the author to look up a few simple medical facts such as the location of the appendix (right, NOT left lower abdomen), and the difference between a virus and a bacteria? Yersinia is NOT a virus. Look it up. It would take less than a minute and not make you look so ignorant of the medical issues you write about.
BTW there are no significant blood vessels near the appendix and no significant scar tissue forms around the cecum after an uncomplicated appendectomy. Same for lateral upper arms: No normal person is going to bleed out from a wound lateral to the humerus.
Similar errors are scattered throughout all these novels. Finally I’d had enough of getting thrown out of the story by the blatant errors so decided to write this review.
Maybe for future novels you should get a medical or better yet surgical consultant. The storytelling is good but because injuries are so important to the story you really should make more effort to get them right.

Great Series

I have read the first eleven books in Mr Reed's Burning Sky series and have enjoyed them immensely! I will recommend this series to all my friends and family who like to read. I would also recommend this to anyone who is concerned with the state of affairs in the world today. The series has approached the story of an apocalyptic event from a perspective that is realistic and eye opening. It also forces the reader to consider the reality of the consequences of such an event and sheds light on the fact that we can never be fully prepared. Even though this series is fictional in nature it nonetheless forces the reader to consider the possible reality of the occurrence of such an event and the story line is so well thought out and written that the results force the reader to be drawn in to the story and wondering how they would fare in the face of such an event. Well done. I felt I was actually experiencing the events as they happened! Again WELL DONE!

Great Series!

I've read this series, book 1 to 11 over the past week and half. It is now one of my favorite PA stories. Yes, the Sanders we're well prepared, but I loved the story of why they were in the position to face the coming Storm. Well written, great character development and just a damn good story. I rank this series right up there with Arisen, but with people as the villains and some pretty evil ones at that. At 71 and an avid reader all my life it's nice to just sit back and get lost in a story and these books do that just fine. Thank you Mr Reed.

Every Book A 5 Star Read

Just didn't get tired of following the story through 11 books. With some notable exceptions I tend to get tired of reading a series, particularly those using an end of civilization as we know it and how smart the heroes are because they prepped. N.C. Reed avoids the pitfalls and gives us characters and situations I found believable. So, for11 books I found myself interested, entertained and locked in. Like others, I didn't want the series to end.

The Fire from the Sky series is one of the most entertaining of the series I have read lately. I have not been able to stop reading all 11 books and really cannot wait for Book 12. What I liked the most was the balance of action, human and family interaction, and philosophy of the situation. I also related to the location since my parents lived in Northern Georgia and a major project I just completed in Huntsville, Al. This lends a realism to the stories since I am familiar with the area the story takes place. Keep up the great work.

#11 has depth of character and vivid story telling.

This series is one that I actively watch for the next book to be released. The Sanders clan has grown to include the national guard soldiers as well as orphans and the Amazon crew. It is no longer just a family protecting their farm but a community that will be the difference between survival, in the near and far away future, or death.
To imagine a world destroyed is not difficult but to pull together the characters and stories that make that dreadful occurrence also hold hope for the future. Well done sir, well done.

Awesome series.

Boy, when our country goes off the deep end they dont fool around. But this leaves me lost. Finished book 11 AND all the Parno series. There is a huge gap there and I sincerely hope book 12 is coming soon.

Mr Reed, thank you very much. Even though you have left me hanging here, I still love you and your stories. However, like I told that other Tennessee writer nut Bill Webb, get your butt back to work.🙏

I am starting audio series for both, that gives you more time. But I need more! Thank you

The Sanders saga continues

As I said in my first book review of the Sanders series, five stars after the third chapter! You'll want the story to keep going and can't wait for the next book. I'm having a hard time finding other series of books that holds my interest and keep drifting back to the people that I know as family in this story.
Not since the book THE STAND, by Stephen King that I've longed for more!

As "After The Apocalypse" series go, this is a step above most!

The plot lines are actually believable human nature but the inter-personal conflicts are a bit forced. The individual episodes in the series contain a large number of characters, large enogh to really need a "Cast of Characters" in each book. For that reason alone, I chose to deduct a star from my score for the series.

Excellent

Well NC knocked that one out of the park! I was starting to lose interest in this series but his latest book cemented in my resolve to continue enjoying this series. None of the characters have lost their interest and the story is taking on a more realistic nature. Of course this genre has a certain flair to it, making the people and the story real is an added bonus! Really a great book and I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did.

The survival saga continues as the bad ass Sanders community faces a Pandemic that threatens not just them, but the entire region. Bad ass character get badder. Weak characters get stronger. The Sander’s lesson on end time survival is even more clearly delineated. Come on book 12!

Another Great Story

Absolutely love this series and have read everything by this author. Not only this amazing story but anything he writes is a treasure for me. If you enjoy great post apocalypse fiction, then you must read Fire from the Sky.

The main character and his crew are skilled, capable black ops that excel in keeping his grandfather's ranch and farm going after a solar event changes the world.

Maybe time to re-read?

I am so very depressed this is the last available Fire In The Sky as following the saga has kept me turning pages as fast as I could read for each of the 11 books. What a series! Until it's time for hopefully the next update, I just might start at the beginning and re-read all 11books again.
N.C.Reed is that good. Thank you for the wonderfully entertaining writing.

written from. different perspective

Just finished book 11 in this series, and should have rated them each as being excellent. Very interesting story line, realistic. The group in this story just wants to hunker down and stay isolated and safe, but find they can’t completely achieve their goal, learning long the way that to do so actually threatens their survival. Can’t wait for the next book in series.

Thought Provoking Read

This one hits hard. The group has been through a year and now it is getting truely bad. This is one to take to heart moving forward when things are so wrong for those you love. Do not want to give anything away but this was another I read straight through. Appreciate the listing of characters at the beginning.

Another excellent read

I will be the first to admit that I was not sure I would like this particular chapter in the life of the Sanders family when I initially read that this story involves a virus. That said, this was another excellent story. Well written and great character development. Definitely glad that I read the book. Well done. Looking forward to the next installment.

Survive at all costs.

After reading these type books, I have found N C Reed to be in the top period. As a US Army Vietnam grunt the reality of the actual troops as well as those they train brings a harsh reality to the truth of combat. I look forward to the next 10 or 15 books about the Sanders clan and their future. Well done Mr. Reed.

Write faster!

I rarely read series, I even more rarely get beyond a few before the series is no longer fun. I'm at 11 with this one and hungry for more. Read the Parno series and want more of that too! Thank you, N.C. Reed for somehow keeping it realistic and interesting...being set in my neck of the woods is just gravy!😊

I've read all of N.C. Reed's titles including "Fire From The Sky." Series is a pre- and -post apocalyptic genre. If you enjoy high action, fast-paced, storylines

without gratuitous sex, where the main characters respect women, Reed is the author for you.

One of the best series I have read.

The saga continues with the Sanders family and crew. Along with survival issues a new problem shows it's ugly face and the people that need to contend with it must face hard moral decisions. I highly recommend this for those who enjoy apocolyptic novels.

Wonderful

This is a different kind of story about the aftermath of an apocalyptic event. Instead of constantly fighting gangs and warlords it so interesting to see how everyday life would be. The new antagonist is brilliant on the author’s part. I’m so upset that I have to wait for book 12.
