Two novellas under one cover! A M/m romance to celebrate the Christmas season...

Snowflakes don’t make any sound. Like a first kiss…

PART ONE: When Robert finds Ange bleeding in an alley, he employs him in his vintage toy store as an act of charity. Months later, as Christmas approaches, he still has many unanswered questions about Ange, but one thing is clear. The eccentric young dancer is determined to offer his thanks—and himself—to teach a brokenhearted Master how to open his heart to love again.

PART TWO: Yet even as Robert embraces Ange’s eager submission to him, the mystery of Ange remains. Something nearly destroyed him and his ability to cope in the outside world. Robert resolves he will find out the truth. Ange brought light to Robert’s life again; as a true Master, Robert will make sure the power of their bond heals them both.

**Submissive Angel was originally released as a short (60 pg) novella in 2012 with Riptide Publishing. The 2020 re-release includes the original novella as well as a Part Two, longer novella (170 pg) that continues the story - two novellas under one cover. As such, it is being listed as a separate title on GoodReads, rather than as a new edition.**

I read and loved the first part of this story a long time ago in an anthology. I realized there is only a certain amount of words allotted to each participant but I wanted to know more about those two men.
And now, finally, my wish came true! The second part picks up the story seamlessly.
But there is a subtle difference between the two parts. Well, at least I thought so.
Ms Hill's skill with words is all there in both parts, but the second one has much more of that magic ingredient of hers. I believe it is an amalgam of, time spent growing in both writing craft, and, literally, careful expression, life experience, a palpable dedication to researching the hell out of every subject she writes about, and most importantly that fundamental part of her creativity, a deep understanding and acceptance of human nature with all its facets. Her writing is not ever simply arousing but always deeply touching and uplifting.
Thank you for sharing your art Ms Hill!

I loved the original short and didn’t know I needed more until I read the second part. OMG! The feelings, the drama, the need and most importantly the love. This book (like many others from this author) took over my world and made me feel what the characters were feeling, doubt, fear, love and humility. I fell into their world and didn’t come away until long after the last page. Absolutely fantastic.

The Most Beautiful Christmas Love Story!

Every book Joey W. Hill writes seems to prove love is out there for the broken and damaged person. This book shows no boundaries. Love is Love! Ange Fournier and Robert Bauer's love story in a D/s relationship was amazing! Their friendship was also amazing! I cried and I smiled alot. This book made my Christmas!

This story is going to tug at your heart strings and inspire you that there are good and wonderful people in the world. Ange has been so badly wounded and traumatized by an incident that almost took his life. The incident changes Ange life in ways no one should ever have to experience.

The story shows what love and care can do not just for Ange but for the man that finds him and lets Ange in his life. Robert has lost his parents after long illnesses and old age. He is alone. His only joy is the vintage toy store that he owns. He is ex-military. He is close to being broken.

The is so much going on in this story. Both men come together to and start heal each other.

There are few people that can tell a story like Ms. Hill. Her characters are wonderful and real. They have complicated lives that come together and become what they are each looking and hoping to find. She draws you into the story she keeps you coming back for more. There are few author that would inspire me to read every book that author has written. I am close to doing that with Ms. Hill's stories. She has an extensive body of work. This story is a wonderful addition to all this work. It is funny and intense and sad and loving and entertaining.

I have few authors that I have collected all the books that they have written Joey is one of those authors. Christine Feehan, Stephanie Laurens and Julia Quinn are a few of the others. This book is a good example of why I have worked on getting all those books. Joey is a true storyteller. Her stories always being emotions with them, good and bad. She can make me cry, laugh and yell about the unfairness of the world. I have loved every one of the books Joey's books and look forward to finishing the ones I have read yet.

One of the most love filled books i have ever read. Not usually a fan of same sex books but the books emotional component was just pure love for another person.Essentially different than just sex or sexuality. Totally emotionally satisfying especially since I happened to read it over Christmas holidays. LOVE HER WRITING. :)

Novella number one from some years ago now was an all too brief Christmas glimpse into these men, damaged by that which life gave them. But it was a brilliant short, full of character and renewal.

Part two is well timed to end this most horrible of years, and kick it to the curb. In taking the relationship deeper and revealing the cause of the scars, these men become more complex and almost tangible. Ange finds the man who can allow him to hold his demons at bay, while offering the security that allows his life to flow...albeit at a different speed and direction, but full nonetheless.

What I particularly like is that we finally get to see a true Dom in Robert, but also a flawed human. Its more like it should be in these stories wherein we see the struggles and doubts of a perfectly imperfect human being who just happens to be a Dominant. I've always had this "thing" about perfect Doms in stories, with all the answers - all the time. It ain't real, Pa! It just ain't! I've always thought, "well who looks after the Dom when he/she doubts or fears or worries endlessly?" And don't *give* me that nonsense about their sub's submission being all they need.

No, Robert and Ange illustrate that dynamic notwithstanding, we all need someone in our lives who brings that one element, that je ne sais quoi into the relationship that becomes the personal anchor in our inevitable, internal storms. How its pasted all together is not the story. Its interesting to read how they do it, but its the people alone who are both the substance and the glue.

Robert and Ange are renewal "personified", and their story is timely.

Robert found Ange cold and beaten. He is moved by the beautiful man, brings him to his toy shop to nurse him back to health. It isn't long before Robert recognizes that he could fall for Ange. Ange recognizes the dominant in Robert, and waits patiently for Robert to see the need in Ange has to be him submissive.

Both characters have baggage. Robert is grieving his parents who died within a short time of each other. While he was caring for his parents, his former submissive left him. Ange, a dancer, is a mystery. Robert is determined to find out Ange's history to help him find the light in his life that Ange brought to Robert.

This book is two novellas, the first part of the story is a short story included in an anthology released in 2012. Part two of the book, is the rest and Robert an Ange's story. Joey W. Hill has a beautiful skill of bringing her characters to life for the reader. Their broken pain and their recovery is felt on every page. A beautiful love story full with the magic of Christmas.

I read the original short story in the Riptide publication of the "O Come All Ye Kinky" Anthology from 2012.
But this is an extended version, self published by the Author in December 2020.

Robert saves Ange(l) when he finds him nearly frozen to death in a dark alley close to his toy shop. He takes him in; offers Ange a job/home; and we take it from there.
The second half of the book gives us hints and clues (and the reason) why Ange was so lost when Robert first found him. Their developing relationship also brings out Robert's Dominant trait which he thought abandoned.
As usual, we get deep feelings and introspection, and a rather gorgeous (innate) submissive :)

A man mired in grief and loss and a young man struggling with trauma are the heart of Joey W. Hill’s ‘Submissive Angel’. Had the author only ever written part one it would have still been a lovely holiday story about finding love. However, part two makes this an even better tale because it picks up immediately following the conclusion of part one, and then the reader gets far more insight into both Robert and Ange.

EROTICA AT IT’S BEST

I just knew that part two was going to rip my heart out and it definitely did. Fortunately, it was put back together.
Good and bad coexist but, often, it seems like bad it has the upper hand. Submissive Angel has plenty of bad that is definitely tempered by amazing good.
What an emotional roller coaster! I could not put it down, that wasn’t possible. This is erotica at its best. So very highly recommend!

Submissive Angel is a kinky Christmas romance yet it is familiar in its themes of peace, joy, love. Who better to explore that than Joey W Hill? Ange embodies the magic and innocence of Christmas. I think I started adoring Ange when he was dancing in the toy store and Robert watched him from outside. Ange tugged at my heartstrings with his need to be loved and protected. Because of Ange, Robert is finally able to move past this own grief and sense of loss. This was simply a charming love story.

I never would have guessed that this story came together as two separate novellas; it honestly felt seamless to me and I really appreciate the extra content. I loved Robert and Ange – how their story started (not the fact that Ange was hurt, but how Robert took him in), their physical chemistry and inability to be separate, their D/s relationship and respect for the other, the magic of the Christmas season, and more. Love this author’s books!

Slow burn

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was not a usual Joey W Hill read where I’m done in a day or two. Instead I took almost a week and let the characters deep into me and really enjoy them. I felt like I was a fly on the wall with Robert and Ange and it was a marvelously rich and engaging world. The storyline was more depth than breadth and was more emotional for it.

I don't usually do a lot of Christmas reads, but this one was a good one. Rough character backgrounds to solve in a small amount of space. I would have liked to see more in-depth exploration of trauma and healing and the bonds that form through that, but it was fine as it was, too. It was what it set out to be.

A beautifully written, heart wrenching book, there were times I had to put the book down and just cry. Then open it back up to read more when I could give it my full attention again.
Joey Hill never falls to capture my attention within the first few pages of her books.

Too bad the author doesn’t do more MM stories . I’d also recommend that any author wanting to write BDSM should strive to emulate her. Part one was the original novella I guess but the extended Part two made this an engrossing read.
