One harlot. One criminal. What can go wrong?.

“The Tender Touch of Night” is a stand-alone novel in the Belle House series.

Maude Daly, better known as "Ginger" among the clients of the Belle House, is used to fine clothes and luxurious lifestyle. But what a woman wouldn’t do for love! On a mission to rescue her lover from a gambling debt, young beautiful Ginger ventures into the worst slums of Victorian London. A string of unfortunate events and she finds herself in the den of a notorious street gang and the king of the underworld himself—Frank Handley.

Frank "Lucky" Handley grew up on the streets. An orphan, a ruthless fighter, a criminal, and an unsung hero of the slums. To him, the slums are his Holy Grail, money is a commodity, and so are women. So the day Ginger falls into his arms, he decides to use her connections with her rich clients to his advantage. And, well, he wouldn’t be Frank Handley if he didn’t toy with such an elegant creature from the luxury brothel on Piccadilly.

So begins the game of cat and mouse.
But Ginger’s games are gentle and take Lucky by surprise, setting his thoughts on fire.
Lucky’s games are dangerous, and there is someone in the shadows, waiting for him to make a mistake.

Twists, turns, revenge, and plenty of steamy scenes in Book 2 of the Belle House series.

WARNING: The book contains violence and scenes of an explicit nature. The Belle House is a brothel, and many characters are of the world’s oldest profession. That being said, if you have issues with any of the above, please, don’t purchase or read the book, for it’s not your cup of tea, and your anger is not mine. Thank you.

Why is it the books I love the most, are always hardest to capture in a review?
This is one of them: a passionate romance set against a macabre backdrop, and one of my all-time favourite rereads!

This book’s sensory prose – vivid, immersive and striking – will probably never cease to captivate me. The dingy alleyways, the smells and textures, the plebeian vulgarity, the abject poverty, the cutthroat gang rivalry and all the gory detail; I always feel smack dab in the unsavoury middle of it all, and strangely enough love every second of it.

He’s a St Giles crime lord. She’s a high-end courtesan.
He’s confident, cunning and crude, both bark and bite.
She’s a kitten with claws, but also knows her only out is to do his bidding.
Explicit overtures, cutting ripostes and an inexplicable pull. Love is not in their nature, still tenderness and vulnerability quietly creep in. To see their mutual fascination turn into a tangle of lust, desire and care is enthralling!
To her he’s a puzzle; a ruthless criminal, yet worshipped by the locals. Until she realises his snide swagger is a front. If possible, she’s more jaded than him, but still, he and all his flaws reawaken her belief in fairytales giving her the courage to stake her claim.
To him, the fact she wants nothing, just him, the man, disarms him almost as much as her gentle touch. But... rookery boys don’t go down without a fight. I love the way he sees hope and opportunity everywhere, and still needs most of the book to realise he’s irrevocably in love.

This story and its unexpected beauty move me. Somehow it feels so very pure to me – a stark contrast with their reality, and it always takes me by storm. Plus, it has one of the most heartrending third-act twists I’ve ever read!

Love 💘is Cuts🔪, Scars, and Bruises👋💪

ADULT Alpha Male Historical Victorian Romance💕 in the poorest part of London.

What a Great story about the early Victorian London slums of St. Giles and the struggles of those who lived there! Vicious Gangs controlled this very poor and dangerous area, and the fighting and competition between them for turf and Money was all consuming.

Leading his gang was Lucky's🐺🔫👋💪🔪 life. It was complete serendipity that he met Ginger💃💋, a fancy redheaded harlot from the upscale Piccadilly brothel, the Belle House.
Lucky🐺🔫👋💪🔪👊 never had time for women, never wanted one, never knew what 💘love was. Didn't want to.

Ginger💃💋 stumbled into Lucky's🐺🔫🔪💪👊 lair in St. Giles, while chasing a street boy who stole her reticle👜 and all her 💰money to pay a debt.

Their relationship is tenuous, constantly strained. Lucky🐺🔫🔪💪👊 is a street survivor, though he has numerous cuts🔪 and scars all over his body and bruises from fights💪👊. He must live one day at a time, but contingency planning is constant.

Ginger💃💋 instantly cares for him, but he always tries to make light of their budding relationship. After all, she is an expensive harlot, but still a harlot.

The only thing she has to give that hasn't been taken are her feelings......💘

I also got this ebook with KU.

This is the second book in this ADULT series and it is unique and well worth reading. It's very different from the thousand or so historical romances I have read. Parts of it are very sad and emotional. The characters can't seem to improve their circumstances and their cruel lives smack them down at every turn. There is some suspenseful realistic violence. Highly recommend.

Update - I went ahead and finished it. It still didn't redeem itself in any way. It also didn't make sense. FMC gets robbed in the neighborhood where they meet. She is almost raped etc. Later, he says he is a criminal because that's what's available to him, to help as many people as he can from the neighborhood. She was in the neighborhood, not well dressed and robbed, which means he's robbing from the neighborhood to give back to the neighborhood. That doesn't make sense. At one point the MMC locks the FMC in his office while he has sex with a prostitute. He lets the prostitute go and then restrains the FMC and kisses her afterward. Gross. One star. When an MMC forces a woman with blackmail or destitution/death for sex it’s gross. Hate sex is also gross."
Also, they fall for each other after they have sex. Not really any emotional connection. Whatever. Also, he gets in a fight with someone he has bad history with from a rival gang. That person hurt the FMC to instigate a fight. When the MMC goes to fight him, the rival dies. Then, to settle it all, so both gangs can work together, the MMC has to die. He shouldn't get punished when the other guy instigated it. Provoked him on purpose, but the MMC has to be punished? That also doesn't make sense. Lastly, the MMC lets the FMC think he's really dead and of course she slaps him but forgives him immediately after that because she loves him. That is unforgivable. Plus surprise baby even thought they weren't using protection. Staying at one star.

DNF 40% I hated the story, manipulation and characters. Instead of Tender, it should have said Toxic.

Maude (Ginger) & Lucky (Frank). First off, I have no clue what her real name is. She is a courtesan at the Belle House but people call her both Maude and Ginger so not sure which it is. Her regular client (that she believes loves her and wants to take her away from the house for their HEA) is in trouble. He has a gambling debt that needs to be repaid (he owes Skriller). In epic douchey fashion, he not only asks Maude for the $$$ but he also wants her to go into the slums to repay the debt to the man he owes. She's in love and agrees but while in the slums, she is tripped by a cat and is robbed by a street kid. She chases after him and follows him into an alley where he ran into a building.

She enters the building and runs right into some thugs. She's saucey and not wanting to put up with their shit. The men are talking about raping her when their boss enters to see what the noise is. She meets Lucky and then realizes he's part of a well known street gang, Bankees. She tells him that she needs her $$$ back so she can pay off a debt (to Skriller Lucky's arch nemesis) for the man she loves. After exposing the fault in her logic relating to the man she loves, he tells her that he will give her the $$$ back in exchange for information on some of the Belle House patrons.

He tries to shock her (she walks in on him with a street harlot; she is taken into a dungeon where his is beating up someone) but she isn't afraid of him. He wants her but she keeps telling him no. He blackmails himself an invite to the Belle House exclusive party (the madam didn't want him to come because he's a criminal but he used some little girl to get himself an invite) and buys a night with Ginger. Its a pretty voyeuristic party and he is very stoic. She takes him to her room and he's pretty rough and quick with her and afterwards he makes comments like she wasn't that good of a courtesan. She is super attracted to him and wants to please him but he gets called away from their night. She's left wanting and confused by their time together.

He's at a bar and someone makes a comment about going to the Belle House to get time with Ginger and ends up getting in a fight leaving him bruised and has cuts. Ginger is told and she rushes to him to nurse him. She cares for him and wants to make sure he's okay. He wants to push her away and makes shitty comments about her nursing him the way a prostitute would (BJ). Even though she's hurt by him pushing her away she starts to have sex with him. He tells her that she's not special and he could have any number of girls do what she does. Mind you she is still on him. She's hurt and about to cry and gets up to leave but he doesn't want her to leave. He grabs her and apologizes and they have a more meaningful encounter.

There becomes a pattern where they are hooking up and he gets called away on Bankee business. He takes her out on a date and she meets his lifetime friend who's a magician and then afterwards takes her to his place outside of the slums. They get their time together without any interruptions. He tells her that he wants her exclusively and that he's going to talk to the madam about buying her away from the Belle House.

He's away and she gets an appointment with a customer. The madam had told him that she wasn't available (because she's not taking any customers that aren't Lucky). He offers 3x the normal fee. Needing the $$$ Ginger takes the appointment. Its Skriller. He is rough and very quick with her then degrades her and ends up slapping and kicking her. Lucky finds out and is furious. He takes some of his men for a fight. They go into Skriller's area of town. We have a full out bar brawl. Lucky is beating up Skriller when he pulls a knife and cuts Lucky. That didn't go over well. Lucky takes the knife and ends up killing Skriller.

Rocco (head of the Bankees) tells Lucky that a full on war resulted from him killing Skriller. Lucky knows that even though he's got Bankees his time is numbered. He goes to Ginger and talks to the madam (to take her away). Ginger tells him that she's pregnant (she wasn't safe like normal with him). He tells her that everything will be ok. She doesn't hear from him for a couple of days and feels like something is wrong. She goes to a bar in the slums to find Lucky. Its a celebration and the place is packed. She's trying to make her way through the crowd to him but sees another man heading towards Lucky. He shoots Lucky. Ginger freaks out and is trying to get to him but his men aren't letting her get to him. One of Lucky's main men takes her outside and tells her that she can't be there because it isn't safe for her. He has her taken back to Belle house.

A solicitor comes to see Ginger. He tells her that prior to his death, Lucky wanted her to leave London. If she left she would get 1k pounds (enough to live on if she lived a modest life with her baby). She has nothing left for her in London and nowhere to go so she decides to leave London. The solicitor comes to take her to the place she was supposed to leave to. He took her to the docks and she was being sent to America to restart her life. She's crying and lost as the ship leaves the dock and London. While staring at the city getting smaller she is approached by someone. It's Lucky. His death had been staged and he and Ginger were off to America to build their lives together.

Wow!

I was not ready for this one. I thought the first book was shocking and raw but this one was even more so and I loved it! So much more than a romance. The storyline was intriguing and unexpected. I really didn't know what to think so I went along for the ride. I was not disappointed. Man oh man I wanted these two to get the HEA. They deserved it. And Lucky was so dang cunning and spectacular! I just wanted to jump 10 years into the future to get a glimpse of what was going on with them. Another great story!

Wow, I am not all the way through this story yet, but, let me tell you. I am entranced! I love the color that the author provides with his words. The imagery is amazing! I'm excited to finish, and if something changes, I'll be back, but this reader is enjoying the story A LOT!

I finished! And, I'm not changing my original take on this authors words: AMAZING! I LOVED IT!!!!

I received an advanced reader copy, and this is my honest and voluntary review.

This was a really interesting read. When I read the book description I didn’t quite know what to expect but it was really interesting, it is a little long but really enjoyable. I thought it would be a bit steamier like the description said especially as Ginger is a harlot but it doesn’t really include much from her daily life, it’s focussed more on her romance with Lucky and his life in the slums. It’s the first I’ve read from this author and I’m glad I gave it a chance. I read this book as an ARC.

This second instalment of the Belle House series was much better than the first. It can be read as a standalone since very little of the first book has any impact on the second. The two main characters, Maude (Ginger) and Frank, have a slow simmering attraction that gets very steamy. They are both originally from St. Giles’ slums, and their love grows slowly.

There is good character development and a plausible plot, which is at times violent (Frank is part of a gang in the East End), and at other times tender. Overall, I enjoyed it and will read the next in the series.

DISCLAIMER: I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
**SPOILERS**

I was in no way expecting this book to devolve into serious detailed intimacy. I skimmed over all of that, and the book lost nothing. It was a good story of a relationship developing between two people currently living in different worlds, but who started their lives in the same place. I'm not interested in reading any of the other books in this series.

Different

Very enjoyable story. Rather than a story about the ton these are regular people trying to survive dad to day. Yes one is considered too be a thug, but life gave him lemons and he made lemonade. So did our heroine. Both did what they could to survive. What would you do if you were born at that time? Loved the other characters in the story. They added more depth to the story. Thank you Vlad!

What a tender and touching story this was!
Maude, also known as Ginger, is the harlot in this very tender and touching story which is also filled with passion and gang rivalry.
Frank, better known as Lucky, is the criminal and really a secretive hero.
Together they light up the pages as they play the game of enticing each other
in this very intriguing, romantic and hot story with a truly surprise ending, which I didn’t see coming.

This was a great read!
Like a mix of Peaky Blinders, Bugsy Malone and Gangs of New York - and apparently that’s just my favourite mix 😂

Lots of on page, described in not so many words, smeggsy scenes 🍑🍆 but not too much In Your Face all of the time 😎

And actually it’s a sweet lovestory with excellent writing and great attention to detail 🤩
I’m at 4.2 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Needed more of Reuben and his father and a chapter or two more in the end 😄

The Tender Touch of Night

I really enjoyed this story, and would recommend to those that like adventure love stories. That being said I would not recommend It to anyone that are bothered by violence or sex scenes. This is definitely not for younger readers. Even though there is a happy ending it is not a sweet story.

Vlad Kahany was a new author for me, and I have to say I was more than pleasantly surprised by his book. The way the author wrote about the emotions, the characters, the settings, were well written, and I felt drawn into the story.

I read and reviewed a copy of this book.

A Change

Maude one of the Belle house girls, thought she had found a good man, but he was a user.
She used her money, to help him, had it stolen on the way, that's how she met Frank.
And this is where their story begins.
Thank you ❤️

what a different story!

I did not expect this story to be as good as it was from the title of the book. I’m tired of reading the same story plots. This was completely different and heart warming.

What Kind of Luck Do You Need?

From the very beginning this book drew my interest. The author could draw excellent pictures in my mind of what life in the slums of London would look like. The characters were strong throughout and the ending was very fitting.

Another Story from the belle house , an enjoyable and exciting read from Vlad who certainly knows how to entertain you as a reader.
His stories are a bit dark in places but written in a sensual and erotic way .
