Requiem's Justice

Rate this book
Demons hunger for our world.

Geneve and Meriwether are tossed across the seas by a relic of the ancients. Separated from their friends and each other, they seek an end to the demons. Geneve finds herself in a city governed by a devil king. Meriwether tumbles into a cursed temple fashioned in the last, great war.

They must find each other, for only together can they end the demon invasion. They must close the gate between worlds or fight an army from another plane. If they fail, the world is forfeit. Even if they succeed, they know they will not survive the final fight.

The gods gave up long ago. Geneve will not. This is Requiem's justice. Finish the Splintered Land trilogy today!

Richard Parry has worked as a senior marketing manager in one of the world’s top tech companies, but it wasn't all cocaine parties. His debut novel Night’s Favor and its sequel Night’s Fall have been shortlisted for the Sir Julius Vogel Award “Best Novel” category.

His ever-growing list of novels spans urban fantasy, cyberpunk, and space opera, featuring flawed heroes, sharp dialogue, and a healthy dose of action. His Night’s Champion trilogy follows an alcoholic-turned-werewolf saving the world, while Future Forfeit explores a neon-drenched cyberpunk future where hacking the system is just the start. Meanwhile, Ezeroc Wars throws readers into the deep end of an interstellar war against a swarm species that doesn’t take no for an answer. Across over 20 novels (and counting), Richard delivers stories packed with heart, explosions, and the occasional bad decision.

Richard lives in Wellington with the love of his life, Rae. They have cats, who chase birds. The birds, who have the power of flight, don’t seem to mind.

*I received a free copy of this book, with thanks to the author. The decision to review and my opinions are my own.*

This is the finale to the gripping Splintered Land fantasy series, so if you haven’t read Blade of Glass and The Storm Within first, definitely do that! If you skip straight to this one you will miss some fantastic world- and character-building, and most of the backstory to the plot.

And fittingly, this book is an epic end to an epic fantasy trilogy!

The storyline picks up right where Book 2 left off, with our intrepid band of misfits separated and confused. But it isn’t long before Feybrind, Vhemin, sorcerers, Tresward knights, pirates, a dragon, a wine merchant and a small blue bird all converge. And then all natural (and manufactured) emnities must be set aside to face a common foe – true evil – and shame the gods (literally) with their courage, love, and sacrifice.

After all of the dust settles from the final great battle, the ending is somewhat ambiguous and left me with plenty of questions racing through my mind: are some of the world’s races now extinct? Will our heroes – those of them that survived – ever be reunited? Why couldn’t the damn gods simply ‘deus’ up a neat ‘ex machina’ solution to all the problems? (I know, I know the answer to this one: free will has a lot to answer for! Plus, it’s too cheap and easy, yada yada…)

I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating, that the worldbuilding here is so immersive and the characters so engaging that I lived the story along with them and found it hard to return to so-called real life after turning the last page. So I’m really hoping that the wispy threads of hope left trailing are smoke signals that another trilogy is on the horizon: The Welded Land series, maybe, or The Forged Land?

And on a personal note, I was really pleased to note that a certain noble beast was remembered right to the very end… even the lowliest of characters play their part and leave their mark!

For fans of strong, well-written fantasy, this series is a must-read and Richard Parry is undoubtedly an author to watch. Plus, as a bonus, he writes action-packed sci-fi too… something to read while you wait impatiently for news of cats, monsters, sinners and dragons.

'Geneve raised her eyebrow. “I hail from the Kingdom.”
“You’re a long way from home.” The merchant’s words were accented but easily understandable, like he’d learned the language as a child. He spread his hands. “I’m afraid you’ve traveled to Tebrani at a bad time. The end of the world has come.”'

Book 3 finds Geneve and friends going up against the biggest of the demons and in a fight for the lives of everyone in their world. They will soon find out how far they will go for duty, honor and love. This trilogy end is packed with action and feelings. I loved it!
Parry uses words as a brush to create his story. He paints pictures and creates feelings that draw you into the story and the emotions of the characters. I laughed at the snarky banter, thrilled at the action, and cried when we lost friends; and I still want more.

Another wonderful rollarcoaster as we go abroad to fight the Demons, with things even more uncertain all we know is that winning at home may not be enough as the new threat is even bigger.
Parry weaves a wonder of story threads in this excellent read and showcases just how the world can be turned on its head.
The unfurling of the relationships between the main characters are the real draw and i love some of the interactions so much.

No spoilers here. And no summary, read the description.
This finishes the Splintered Lands trilogy nicely, and is possibly the best of the three. More great character development and world building, and plenty of interesting plot twists.
Miyazaki could make a wonderful anime out of this series.

I have a problem. I love this authors books and his style of writing so it would require something very wrong with the book for me to give anything less than a three for his books. Like, maybe, a very short book that is over before you can start enjoying it. Fortunately, THIS book is a decent reading length. You will enjoy it!

What a stunning read, this book has a wonderful storyline with characters to match.
In my opinion reviewing a book the likes of this one is extremely hard to do , as no matter which way you look at it you would end up giving spoilers. So to make up for the lack of babble about it I can only do but sing it's praises, it is one of those books which is difficult to stop reading and put down , you just need to know what is going to happen next so on that note I will finish by saying that a absolutely recommend this book

Sensational

This series started well and continued to a sensational conclusion. So much strength in the characters, relationships and story, with great undercurrents of good & evil and hope & fear, but most of all friendship and love and we all need more of that.

Finalé

This was such an excellent read. Very enjoyable, with a touch of dry humor that had me occasionally laughing out loud. I highly suggest grabbing this series, a tea or coffee, and jump right in for a wonderful ride!

Great read

I love this series. Geneve , Meri and Tilly they are totally awesome. Their friends are to. They are in a land they don’t know. They are trying to find each other and also save the world. Will they survive? I think you’ll enjoy this story if this is your genre probably even if it’s not.
