A BOOK TO BRIGHTEN YOUR DAY - A GIFT OF HOPE, COMFORT, POSITIVITY, OPENNESS AND LOVE FOR ANY OCCASION - INSPIRATIONAL QUOTES FROM THE TFL UNDERGOUND DUO
Transport for London employees and dynamic masked duo, All on the Board (aka Jeremy and Ian), made it their mission to bring smiles to the faces of London commuters through writing creative messages, quotes and poems on the underground's service information boards. 'We were tired of looking at a board that just said "keep right" and thought can't we do something a bit more fun?'.
Fast-forward 3 years, they've grown a community of 750,000+ online fans and have a plethora of celebrity supporters. Through their magical words, they've marked momentous occasions, celebrated countless artists, legends and heroes, raised awareness of mental health and hidden illnesses and sprinkled thousands of our daily journeys with positivity, humour and love. Their kind messages remind us all that we're in it together and now, with their beautiful, colourful collection of quotes, stories and drawings you can add joy to your day wherever you are and however you're feeling.
CHAPTERS INCLUDE: Positively Positive, Raising Awareness, Love, Always Remembered, Random Pleasures & Simple Treasures, Mental Health, Legends, Real Life Heroes, Occasions & Celebrations, London, In It Together
This was my Christmas book present to myself and once I started I couldn't put it down. It makes you laugh, smile and cry. Beautiful quotes, would definitely recommend.
I couldn't help but feel bored whilst reading this, very often. Which is strange, because I love seeing All On The Board appear randomly on my feed. I guess the magic just isn't there in a book format, because each poem is so disjointed and quite frankly a bit too plain to be bundled together.
*Okay, okay, I have to admit that I didn't get all the cultural references either, which took away from my enjoyment.
It's always nice to see these personalised signs on the Underground though it's usually the humorous ones I prefer. This is a selection of the more inspiring and uplifting ones broken down into categories. It's also interesting to hear the thoughts of the anonymous duo behind allontheboard. It's a little self satisfied at times but it's easy to dip into and is ideal for the gift market.
Reflections and lessons learned: “Just ask, 'How are you? And let the conversation flow”
A public, timely display combination of handwritten poetry and art, that provokes potential conversation on one of the most busy, ignorant and tightly packed forms of social mixing, that makes you feel the personal touch behind it? Just a fantastic concept, in the perfect often weirdly unfriendly environment. When I used to travel on the Tube (did you know that I used to work on Chancery Lane?), I’d always carry a variety of small books of inspirational quotes… possibly might not have needed to add to my overly filled fashion shoulder bag had I had access to these to enjoy on a regular basis - absolutely blooming inspired and just what every city needs
If you aren’t aware of the amazing social media page that is @allontheboard - go and give them a follow. I love the little mantras and messages they post on a whiteboard each day. From dedications to people we’ve lost, to raising awareness of various medical issues. They then went on to write this book - which is currently 99p on kindle - and honestly, it’s a really nice little pick me up book! With messages of motivation and ones to heroes. If this is your sort of thing - then I recommend for a nice little read! I was sending a few to @molly - and I think I have convinced her to download it. (Sorry Mol!) Now I’ve read the kindle - I really want a physical copy…
There's a quote for every occasion, whether you need something funny, uplifting, supportive and more. I found many of the quotes relatable, which made me feel seen, and less alone. A lovely book to have if you ever need a pick me up, and it would definitely make a great gift.
I would give this 2.5 stars but it's not possible 🤷🏻♀️.
This is just not my type of book. It firstly annoyed me that it is smaller and slightly fatter than a standard hardback, so it doesn't fit neatly on my shelf.
If you like quotes and inspirational things, this is the book for you. I just, personally, do not. I would rather take mine from poetry or books than a notice board. It's sweet, but it is a picture book and it is just a collection of their Instagram pictures. It's a coffee table book to me - leave it out, skim through it and you'll probably read something that'll make you smile.
All on the Board is something I would probably snap a picture of if I saw it in a tube station, but to me it doesn't work in book form. It doesn't give anything new that their Instagram doesn't give, and by reading the whiteboards one after another the smile-worthy boards all blend together.
Inspiration - the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative.
I bloody love these guys & their boards! Whether it be an inspirational quote, a nod to mental health, a thank you or a 'just because' board these guys have it covered.
They also talk a little about themselves & their own daily struggles, the people they've helped & the darker side of working the underground.
Beautiful quotes & poems to make you smile or shed a tear. I'm an avid follower of these guys on social media & am yet to actually visit London to hunt down one of their boards.
I purchased my copy for my Kindle for 99p, but will be investing in the hard copy for my book shelf.
I bought this for myself as soon as I found out about the publication. I have been past this board many times when I am in London and each time I have stopped to read what the board had to say. Messages of hope, inspiration, awareness, motivation, compassion and tribute.
This book is the perfect gift for friends, family and loved ones. Anyone can take something from this book and it doesn’t necessarily have to be read in order, it can be simply picked up as you please.
Highly recommended especially if you are looking for something to lift your spirits, there is something good that’s come out of 2020.
A collection of quotes on boards appearing on London Underground written by TFL employees E1 (Everyone) and N1 (No One). The collection covers topics such as Positively Positive, Love, Always Remembered, Mental Health, Real Life Heroes, ... I have really enjoyed the explanation of the meaning of it as it gives such a beautiful message to us, commuters.
My favourites are: Mundane Monday If people say ''it's just a pet'' 100 Years of Women's Suffrage
A collection of quotes, poems etc that two employees of TFL (Transport For London) put on boards in the tube station for commuters to see and which have, by all accounts, acquired an almost legendary status.
I think anyone can appreciate the sentiment behind the messages. Great literature this is not and, to be fair, doesn't aspire to be, but the reliance on everything rhyming just got to me in the end and I found myself scanning.
I do not live in London, I am not a commuter, so perhaps I am just not getting it.
I had originally ordered this for my Kindle but did need to use the app on my iPad to be able to read it well as it was too small for the Kindle. I wish that I had bought the book as this is one of those books that you read and then know that you will be dipping into it again. This is a lovely idea, inspiring quotes and comments on the notice boards at Tube stations relevant to the day’s events. I also really liked the back stories of the writers. Excellent book.
So glad that I purchased this book! I followed the guys on Instagram at the beginning of lockdown and it’s one of my favourite pages. They literally just want to help people and make them feel special. Two gents who fight their own battles but still work selflessly for other people and their mental health!
Having followed them on social media, I had to give their book a read.
I find them so clever, witty and moving. Each one is crafted to perfection and a little work of genius.
So why 4 stars? I think I’ve pretty much read all of these poems before. It would have been nice to read some “exclusive” ones written just for the book.
What started off as using an information board on the Tube system to highlight Craig David’s concert turned into a national treasure. Two tube workers now write clever posts for everything: Paul McCartney to suicide prevention. All well written, clever and with a great message. Meant to be a coffee table book you occasionally read a quote or two. I naturally read it like a book.
My Christmas gift to myself and as you can see I couldn’t put it down, finished this in a matter of hours! I smiled the whole way through and am glad that this little book of positivity was the last one I chose to read in 2020.
I really enjoyed this as a book you can pick up whenever and just read for a few minutes at a time. It's hard to give it a really high rating because some of the poems won't resonate with you at all, whereas others really will. Wise and uplifting, would definitely recommend for a nice light read.
This is the perfect book for any mood, I have loved following these boards over the last couple of years and am so glad to have found some of my favourite and those that mean the most enclosed in this book. Thank you for putting together such a wonderful collection and for all you both do.
Thank you so much to the two boys for writing these inspirational boards. I have never seen one in real life, only get to London once or twice a year, but love seeing them on social media and now in this book.
These poems are uplifting and heartwarming but collected together like this they become a little samey. They are better suited to where they started off, on social media, where they blend into the feed of other content.
