A RISING STAR WITH EVERYTHING TO LOSE.

As Hollywood’s newest darling, Becca Sandoza is vigilant about guarding the image and reputation she’s so carefully created. Her career has allowed her to escape her past, but her newfound fame turns out to be a sharp double-edged sword. The nightmare she’s been trying to escape for twenty years has resurfaced. The man responsible knows all her secrets, and his silence comes at a heavy price. She’ll do whatever it takes to keep the past buried and protect the person she cares about most. But when it seems like she’s trapped with no way out, Becca finally turns to the one man she can trust—the one man capable of making her body burn and her heart ache with a yearning she’s never felt before.

THE ONLY MAN WHO CAN PROTECT HER.

Chase Davenport took everything he learned as a Marine Corps combat veteran and is now a sought-after stuntman. Hollywood is every bit as competitive and unpredictable as he expected, but the biggest surprise so far is Becca Sandoza. She’s got a reputation as an ice queen with the media, but it’s clear to him that’s only a mask she puts on to protect herself. Behind the scenes she’s down to earth, kind, and just being around her brings out all his protective instincts. So when she comes to him for help with a dangerous situation, he steps up. She might be totally out of his league, but the more time they spend together, it quickly becomes clear there’s more between them than scorching chemistry. And when the threat suddenly escalates with no warning, Chase will do anything to save her—no matter the cost.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. The author is fairly new to me. This is the fourth book of hers I have the pleasure of reading. That being said, I have been enjoying her Kill Devil Hill series and looked forward to reading Chase’s story.

Adrift picked up where Submerged left off. This installment takes us to Hollywood, where Chase,  and his love interest are busy working on a new movie. Chase is a former marine turned stuntman while Becca is a sought after actress. The chemistry between them sizzled and popped. However, Becca fears getting close to Chase. A secret from her past bleeds her financially while threatening to derail her career. She fears the impact it may have on her personal relationship.

Chase recognized something was wrong when she began behaving strangely after she acted out a scene, which made her uncomfortable. He offered to help with whatever was causing her distress, but she refused to open up and let him in. However, when the threats and demands intensified, she turned to the one person she knew could protect her and keep her secret.

The story started out slow and took its time building up to an exciting finish. I loved how the story developed, however, I would have preferred if there was more action. The romance developed nicely, despite the heroine’s horrid actions in the initial stages. Persons would be outraged if a man  took advantage of a woman while she’s drunk, so why should it be ok for a woman to do the same thing to a man. Yes, the heroine did that, then left with no form of communication for several weeks. Lucky for her Chase is a forgiving person.

I had a good time reconnecting with the other Davenport siblings and their significant others. Chase’s best friend, Ryder. whom he served with, intrigued me. He struggles with personal demons. I am curious to learn what triggered those demons. Looking forward to reading his story.

I enjoyed the storyline involving the villain. His sense of entitlement, which triggered his desire for revenge, amazed me. He definitely got what he deserved and more. I have no sympathy for his type. This aspect of the story kept me on my toes and I enjoyed how it played out.

Adrift served up a wonderful romance with a slice of suspense and action.  I am looking forward to reading more from this author. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading

I will never look at Hollywood stunt people or actors the same way again. The chances stunt people take and invasive way actor's lives are are exploited are no joke. Kaylea Cross can write an action sequence like no one else. I am on the edge of my seat through all of them. I love her characters and the Davenport family is just wonderful. The romance is tender and the threat is very real, ramping this book to a whole different level.

Chase Davenport is the baby of his family. He is a Marine veteran and back in civilian life trying to make a career of stunt work in Hollywood and having success at it. He misses his family who are on the other side of the country, but gets to see them often between movies. He has worked with Becca Sandoza on other sets, but this time he has had a chance to really get to know her and his crush is only getting worse. Her reputation as cold and aloof is definitely not the impression Chase gets from her. Shy and insecure are his vibes and he really wants to get to know her better.

Becca Sandoza, Hollywood's reigning new face, has made her career by hard work and sheer determination. She is careful in all she does because her past must remain a deeply buried secret. If it ever got out, she would be ruined and it could cost her mother her life. So, Becca is being drained dry by a nasty blackmailer. When a scene with Chase bring back vivid memories, she knows she can't go on much longer living with the threat.

Turning to Chase for temporary solace will not solve anything, but when the blackmailer ramps up his demands, she turns to Chase as the only man she can trust for help. Trust isn't easy for Becca, but her feelings for Chase tie them together and Chase will do anything to make sure Becca is safe, secure and protected.

Fantastic, suspenseful and romantic read😍

Adrift is the third book in the Kill Devil Hills series and focuses on Becca, the movie star and Chase, the stunt man🤩

What I loved about this story is that there’s so much to tell but I feel like it would all be a spoiler…so I’m not going to do that to anyone but I will say that Chase and Becca’s story is a fierce and strong love connection and I absolutely loved it❣️There are some fantastic funny moments but also some more suspenseful and edge of your seat anxiety moments that have you rushing to finish the next chapter and the next one, to see what happens to our beloved characters❤️

I’m excited to learn more about Ryder when his story is up next as some of his story was intricately linked with Chase and my heart feels for him. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily leave my honest review😁

What a fantastic way to end a thrilling series. This one was non stop action from the first page till the last, and I couldn't put it down once I started.
The book was expertly done, believe me when I say that what may seem obvious isn't.
This couple was yet again perfect for each other and you'll be rooting for them even before the skeletons come out of the closet.
Speaking of skeletons, it was nice to see more of Ryder, and even just those glimpses had my heart breaking for him.
Look forward to his story and hope we see the siblings and their other halves.

Adrift is the third title in the Kill Devil Hills series, featuring Becca and Chase.
This title is a romantic suspense full of action, and intrigue, with a few twists and turns that I didn’t see coming!
Becca is a Hollywood actress, who has a past she’d rather forget, but it’s currently haunting her present. She’s strong, protective, loving, and loyal.
Chase is a former marine, turned stunt man who is charming, fearless and has a big heart.
The connection and chemistry between this pair is intense and passionate.
Another enjoyable addition to the series, and I look forward to Ryder’s story next that will be a crossover between the Kill Devil Hills and Crimson Point series.

Let me start my little review by saying I adore this author!

I’ve enjoyed the Kill Devil Hills Series (frigging LOVED Chase) but for some reason I couldn’t connect with our lead heroine Becca 🤨 the storyline and the pace of the story was to the usual high standard for this author, it was everything you need in a romantic suspense novel. Chase was a sweetheart and was really likeable, Becca on the other hand I found to be childlike, irritating & boring. I also wasn’t keen on her taking advantage of Chase when he admitted to still being drunk.
This author will continue to be an auto buy for me, and I look forward to reading Ryders story in the future.

I wasn’t really sure what to expect when I picked this book up, I was super intrigued with the idea of a stunt double and celebrity as the main couple. Once I started reading I was interested in where the story would go, but then my attention was going in and out until I got to the core part of the story, then I was so invested I couldn’t put it down!
This is still a somewhat new author to me, but with every story I read, I’m excited to see what she does next!

Becca Sandoza is a rising Hollywood movie star. Fiercely private, she guards her reputation while trying to escape her past. Ex-military, Chase Davenport is a stuntman and sometimes body double working on Becca’s movie. He loves the thrill and adrenaline rush he gets from completing action stunts. They become friends first, but Chase has feelings he’d like to explore if only Becca would let him.

Feeling emotionally raw after doing a scene together, Becca arrives unexpectedly at Chase’s door. One night is all she can give him and she’s gone by morning leaving him feeling confused and kind of devastated. Then she appears at his door in North Carolina.

Becca has an ugly past she has worked hard to escape, but it’s come back for her. Chase wants to help her shoulder the burden, if she will let him. The past isn’t the only thing hunting Becca, though. More than one dangerous individual has her in their sights and it’s up to Chase to keep her safe so Becca can finally live life free from the pain her past has caused her and look towards a happy ever after.

I loved the intensity of this book and characters! Becca pushing through her own insecurities and trauma as a professional was amazing as well as her trying to protect her mom and everyone else she cares for.

I also enjoyed Chase and Ryder together on set as best friends both doing stunt work. I need more from Ryder and I’m excited to see he is getting a book in the Crimson Point series. And Chase - just swoon! Sexy and sweet as pie as well as alpha enough to keep Becca safe and insist she let him in, but secure enough to also let her do her own thing while supporting her all the way.

Action packed, full of danger and intrigue, emotionally charged, sexy and sweet! Adrift was everything I could have wanted for Chase after getting to know him through the rest of the Kill Devil Hills series. 5 stars!

Adrift wonderfully brings the Kill Devil Hills series to a close with stuntman and youngest Davenport sibling Chase's story. And what a story it is, as he falls for Hollywood's newest and brightest star Becca Sandoza who he's been working with on her latest movie. But Becca has a dark past that's rearing its ugly head and with danger lurking in unexpected places this was a fast-paced read. That built to a heart pounding climax.

And with appearances from Chase's siblings and his friend Ryder who features in the next Crimson Point story this was an enjoyable and really engaging tale, and one I would happily recommend to others.

ADRIFT is the third instalment in Kaylea Cross’ contemporary, adult KILL DEVIL HILLS romantic suspense series-a spin off from the author’s Crimson Point series. This is Hollywood actress Becca Sandoza, and former US Marine turned stunt man Chase Davenport’s story line. ADRIFT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Becca and Ryder were introduced in book two SUBMERGED; Chase was introduced in book one UNDERCURRENT.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from several third person perspectives including Becca and Chase, ADRIFT follows the building romance and relationship between former US Marine Chase Davenport and Hollywood actress Becca Sandoza. Chase Davenport is working as a stuntman on Becca Sandoza’s latest movie but Chase suspects that something is wrong when our heroine begins to withdraw following a scene that made her very uncomfortable. Friends off the set, Chase begins a slow seduction of the woman that calls to his heart but a number of phone calls and texts to Becca’s phone soon reveal the truth about what is going on. Becca Sandoza is being blackmailed, and Chase is about to get caught in the middle of the fight. As Chase, and security specialist Ryder work to ensure Becca’s safety, a threat of another kind takes everyone by surprise. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Becca and Chase, and the potential fall-out as our heroine is targeted by more than one man.

Becca Sandoza’s earlier years were fraught with cruelty and abuse, and her past is demanding payment or secrets will be revealed, secrets that could destroy Becca’s struggling mother. Chase Davenport knows that personal security is not his goal in life but protecting Becca means placing himself in the direct line of fire

The relationship between Becca and Chase begins as a co-workers on the set but quickly turns into something more. Chase’s attraction to Becca is immediate but Becca struggles with demons from her past, demons that are continuing to control her present. The $ex scenes are intimate and erotic without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

All of the previous story line couples make cameo appearances including Chase’s sister Harper and Jared, and their brother Bowie and his wife fiance Aspen, as well as the return of security specialist and former Marine Ryder Locke. The requisite evil has many faces. Ryder Locke’s story VALOR is the next instalment in Kaylea Cross’ CRIMSON POINT series.

ADRIFT is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and revenge, obsession, greed, family and love. The premise is intriguing and captivating; the romance is seductive; the characters are energetic and dynamic.

From the beginning of this book we learn that Becca Sandoza has a major problem. She's being blackmailed and sees no possible way out of it. Her blackmailer Rick knows secrets of her past and she's not letting them out, ever. We also get a glimpse of the relationship she has with her mother at the beginning and the bond there is undeniable. She doesn't have to be on set for the stunt chase but she couldn't help herself. There's just something about her co-star's stunt man that attracts her and it's not just his good looks.

Chase Davenport and his best friend Ryder are doing a really intense chase scene. It's the cumulation of much planning and and practice. You can feel the intensity as they go through the scene with the stops and starts to get all the angles. Then with climax with Chase bursting into flames. I swear I was holding my breath.

With Becca's co-star leaving to start a new project Chase has more scenes with her. One in particular reveals more to Chase than Becca realizes. Her past comes flying back to her as they do that final take. The emotions that flood her have her fleeing after the wrap, but she does seek Chase out later.

We meet Becca's mother and I really loved the strength she imparts to Becca, the courage to go after what she wants. It was her mother who convinces her to go visit Chase, let him know how she feels.

Becca has much fear to overcome and Chase is relentless in pursuing the truth. Things get more than just a little hairy as Becca's blackmailer, Rick gets more desperate.

I love this family, the Outerbanks and Kill Devil Hills. The sizzle between Becca and Chase is palpable but the trust has to come first.

I couldn't put this book down, it's the perfect wrap up to the trilogy.

Adrift is the final book in the Kill Devil Hills Trilogy but it's also a great link to the next Crimson Point book!

Chase is loving his new life as a stuntman. He gets to fill his need for adrenaline and action without real, live bullets being shot at him. He also gets to spend time with some really interesting people - and also one very intriguing leading lady. Becca is nothing like the other starlets he's met - she pretty much shuns the limelight except when required for publicity. But there is also a vulnerability to her that pushes all of Chase's protective buttons.

Becca fell into stardom. She started with bit parts and has worked hard to get where she is - all without falling to the curse of the "casting couch". But she is not without enemies. Especially one she made when she was barely a teenager! She is desperate to protect her mother from more pain and heartache - even if that means draining her bank accounts.

This was a really intriguing story and just when you think "yup that's the bad guy!" there comes more info and "whammo" your theory goes out the window! I really felt for Becca trying to protect her fragile mum, but as with most mums, she is made of hardier stuff and is less fragile than Becca thinks - I totally LOVED her mama bear moment! Chase is a great blend of the strong male lead and supportive friend - he doesn't want to cross the line with Becca and have her think he's only trying to get 5 minutes of fame.

It was great meeting Chase's family again and a certain big lovable pup! Ryder sure has some struggles to overcome and I can't wait to see more of him in CP!

We are back with the Davenport siblings of Kill Devil HIlls and this time the story belongs to the youngest one, Chase. A former Marine who is now working as a stuntman in Hollywood.
The young star of the film he’s working on is a woman that has grabbed his attention, Becca Sandoza. But he’s only a stuntman and she is way out his league.
Even though the press presents her as an ice queen, he knows she’s really quite different. Becca not only keeps to herself, but she’s also keeping secrets about her past, and about the person who has been blackmailing her almost to bankruptcy.
When Becca asks Chase for his help , he doesn’t hesitate. As the danger and threats grow, so do Chase’s feelings.
Will they survive the danger and find their HEA or will evil overcome them?
Aside from an engaging story with strong characters, it was wonderful to visit and catch up with the siblings and their significant others all whom we have met in previous stories.
I am looking forward to Ryder’s story who I suspect will crossover to the author’s other wonderful series, Crimson Point.
Once again, this talented author delivers a story that will touch your hearts . The author also reminds us that human trafficking is sadly very much alive in our country.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

In Adrift, the third of the Kill Devil Hills series, Chase Davenport has it bad for Becca Sandoza.

Working together on the set of movies gives him just a small insight into the life of this sought after actress. But, he only knows the parts of her story she wants to tell. The rest is a closely guarded secret. And as with most secrets, the keeping of them is incredibly hard, for lots of different reasons.

I loved the intrigue in this book. Chase knows that something isn't quite right and shows, without doubt, that Becca can put her trust in him.

With a visit to the Outer Banks, Becca becomes convinced, and the story takes a huge leap towards their HEA.

I really love the way this author so artfully weaves her stories together. I'm a prolific 'series' reader but always go through a grieving period when a series comes to an end. With Kaylea Cross, I always expect a believable link from one series to another, often giving well loved supporting characters their own opportunity to shine and once again she has thrown that life line.

I can't wait for what comes next and I'm sure you'll be right there with me!

Not my favorite

Full disclosure this is one of my least favorite tropes, the writing was on point as usual but the whole hidden secret trope is just aggravating. Becca was probably really great in every other aspect but the lack of a real reason for the "secret" she was keeping it just made me dislike her. In addition, this was way too slow burn for me. I loved Chase, of course, he was practically perfect in every way - I just wish I felt like Becca deserved him. The ending was just as I expected in a lot of ways, i.e. the fallout from her secret being revealed. There was a twist at the end as well, though completely unexpected it did feel tossed in there out of the blue and didn't really jive with the rest of the story. None of the above matters overly much because while this book wasn't my cup of tea, I do love her books and her writing and won't be inclined to let it affect my enjoyment of future books, can't hit a home run every time at bat - plus I'm sure others won't mind the silly trope as much as I do.

Fast paced read with plenty of excitement and action, from screen to real-life there was something going on. I loved the main characters and Ryder, they clicked well as friends and then the relationship started to build between the two, lots of chemistry and sparks. Ryder was on hand at times when needed as a friend or protection and the bond between the two former team mates was strong, Ryder has his own issues which will be dealt with his own story in the Crimson Point Series, but he played a fairly big part in this so only fair to mention that. There were unexpected twists that made the whole climax scene edgy, suspenseful and scary. Pretty traumatic as well just from the reading side of it, I could feel the panic from Becca and Chase building up to a full on crescendo Ryder not far behind them. Some lighter scenes with Chase's family and also Becca's mum were a relief and eased pressure just at the right times. Some moving but steamy moments of tenderness and care for each other just topped off an amazing story and conclusion to this three book series. Fabulous.

Kaylea never ceases to amaze me! I swear She pumps out one amazing series after another. Kill Devils Hills is no exception. In all her books there is never a shortage of action, adventure, danger and of course amazing chemistry. Chase is former military now working as a stuntman. Becca is a actress struggling to hide from her past. As her past is haunting her in the form of a blackmailer she can’t seam to get on with her life. When Chase and Becca met on set it is pretty much instant chemistry between these two. Becca not wanting to drag him into her hot mess of a life is hesitant at first but quickly falls to the chemistry and charm of Chase. This was a great fast paced read that was entertaining from page one to the final page. I enjoyed the intense drama and chase that Kaylea always brings with her books. As always im already looking forward to reading the next in the series. I can’t Wait to see what is hiding behind Ryders secrets.

Adrift is the story of the last sibling in the Kill Devil Hills series. Former military Chase Davenport has found his place in Hollywood as a well sought after stuntman. His current job was on the set with the infamous Becca Sandoza. Even though she is portrayed as a cold ice queen, Chase sees the true Becca and would love to get to know her better, but sees him as out of her league. Becca is the current darling of Hollywood, on the outside she seems to have it all, but in reality the past 4 years has been a nightmare. To protect someone she loves, she must go on, but it has taken a toll. When demands escalate, Becca finally turns to the only man she has ever felt safe with.

Like the two previous books, the Davenport siblings rally around each other and protect the ones they love. I really enjoyed reading Chase and Becca’s story, they were perfect for each other. I am now really excited to read Ryder’s story, it looks like we are going back to Crimson Point!

In the present Becca is an actress who is a rising star however her past is something she doesn’t want becoming public knowledge and she is paying a big price to ensure that it doesn’t happen. It is because of this that she doesn’t allow many people close but there is something about Chase that makes her believe that she can trust him, and she has come to the conclusion that she can no longer handle this on her own.

Chase has transitioned from his career as a Marine into that of a stuntman. Although he is attracted to Becca he is beginning to wonder if it is all one-sided. When Becca comes to him for help he realizes that the situation is much more complex and dangerous than she believes and there is nothing he won’t do to keep her safe.

Becca has always tried to handle everything alone so accepting help from Chase was at times freeing and at times difficult, but Chase proves to her that she is no longer alone and they are so much stronger together than apart.

Adrift- Kill Devil Hills book 3

This was an action packed and suspenseful romance as Becca, the !love star falls for her stunt man Chase. The evil human trafficer from her mother's and her past was blackmailing her. She was at her wits end and could not pay him anymore and he was threatening to expose pictures from her mother's past lying and saying it was Becca instead. Chase and Becca's true love story begins when she trusts Chase and tells him everything she was going through. He convinces her to do the right thing and involve the FBI. From that point on it was non stop action as Chase and Ryder, his military buddy take down the man that were trying to ruin Becca's life. Becca and Chase get their happily ever after i with the bad guys getting their just deserved ends. I highly recommend these three books and Ryder' s story next.

I didn't think that Kaylea Cross could top book 2 of the Kill Devil Hills series, but Chase and Becca have far surpassed Harper and Jared as well as Bowie and Aspen. This series as a whole has been one of my absolute favorites that Cross has given us. It has the perfect amount of romance mixed with suspense. And sets us up perfectly for Ryders book. Becca and Chase have their work cut out for them because of the goings on from Becca's past. She has a lot of hurt and insecurity she is working with from the way she was raised. But Chase is all in, and refuses to let Becca pull back. These two have a connection that you feel off the page, and you don't want to miss this book.

I received an ARC in exhange for an honest and unbiased review.

Adrift is the 3th book in the wonderful Kill Devil Hills series.
It’s Chase Davenport and Becca Sandoza’s story. It has a great balance between romance and suspense and I had a great time reading it!
You can feel the chemistry sizzling between Chase and Becca 😍
Becca is an famous actress and Chase works on the same movie set as a stuntman.
When Becca is blackmailed she doesn’t know who to trust but Chase helps her and together they try to find a way out of the situation. I liked the twist and turns, the action and the romance.
I recommend to read the whole series although you can read it as a stand-alone you would’t want to miss the other to books in this awesome series about the Davenport siblings.
I received this arc from the author and this review is my honest opinion.

Dangerous Steps

Really enjoyed Chase and Becca's story. The suspense throughout the story was truly intriguing. I had been looking forward to Chases story. His siblings and their significant others along with Ryder were included, which was wonderful.

Here we have Chase and Ryder who are ex-military now doing stunt work for a movie. Chase gets the chance to see again the actress who has occupied his fantasies, Becca Sandoval. He sees a side of her that she rarely shows to others. For Becca, life right now just got extremely complicated. Chase also intrigues her but she can't focus on him because her life just became an old dangerous situation.

A really good story. I can't wait for Ryder's story. My heart breaks for him.

The story of Chase and Becca is one that has its ups and downs, twists, and turns, but it keeps you glued to your seat waiting to find out what happens next. Going back to Kill Devil Hills and taking Becca with him to meet his family, and keep her safe, she is instantly taken in by everyone. Becca needs to keep the demons at bay and away from her family but that is getting harder to do, being blackmailed until she is strapped and has no where to turn. Can Chase help her? She’s never told anyone, but does she have the courage to tell him her past? Pick up the book and enjoy going back to Kill Devil Hills.

I received an arc for an honest review.

Hollywood life is not all glitz and glamour but luckily it still has it's romance..

Becca is just like any other person with dreams of being an actor but behind the scenes has a past that she would pay to keep hidden (literally).

'Costar' and former Marine, Chase Davenport is a dare devil and knight in shinning armor - who wouldn't love his charm!

The down to earth actor and stunt double have feelings for each other however, not until Becca's past comes out to haunt her do they stop fighting their attraction to each other and work on their future.

The end to this suspenseful romantic trilogy is just as good as the first two books in the series!

WOW! Another FANTASTIC story by Kaylea! This story is about the youngest member of the Davenport siblings - Chase. It starts out with Chase and Ryder doing their stunt scene and Becca was watching from the sidelines. The story is basically about Becca and her sordid past which finally catches up to her. Chase helps her when she finally trusts him to help her. The ending was so totally intense that I had tears I had tears in my eyes. I am so happy that the bad guys were taken care of. Now these two start working on their happily ever after! FANTASTIC job Kaylea! I would highly recommend this book!

CW: kidnapping, drug addiction, sex trafficking, blackmail

I've really liked this series. The rom-suspense hasn't really overrun the romance. They are a lot more equal than in other books. I really liked Chase and how he saw and accepted Becca as she was. Becca was nice. She spent a lot of time second-guessing whether she could trust Chase and what was fair to his feelings and hers. I did spend quite a bit of the book wanting Becca to share with Chase so she didn't have to handle the load on her own. I did find the ending slightly confusing. I really enjoyed Chase and Ryder's friendship, also.

The break didn't feel good to me. I lost every ounce of strength to open a book. But since I haven't read anything for awhile this story pulled me in strongly even though I know its hardly different from any other romantic suspense books. The scene where Becca stopped breathing was very thrilling despite knowing she's not going to die for sure. The one thing which bugged me was Ryder. That guy clearly needs help from people around him. But no one actually gave him any attention except Chase at the end, it was still not much. He has no one to talk to which really saddened me. Everyone's too busy being all coupley doupley. What are friends for?
