In the future, there's 3 Wonder Women running around.

Nubia - ★★★ - by LL McKinney & Alitha Martinez
The writer of the YA comic, Nubia Real One returns to write Nubia once again, this time when she's a little older. It's fine but a bit uninteresting. She fights Grail over some MacGuffins.

Wonder Woman - ★★★★ - by Joele Jones
Yara Flor makes her first appearance as a Brazilian Wonder Woman. Joelle Jones is a multithreat talent on art and writing. I like Yara's abrasive personality and the irreverent use of mythological creatures in the story. Jones art is always fantastic. This is the only Future State I would pick up on a monthly basis.

Superman / Wonder Woman - ★★★★ - by Dan Watters & Leila del Luca
Jon Kent and Yara Flor team up to defeat Solaris and the Brazilian sungod. This was surprisingly entertaining. I'm not thought much of Watters writing in the past but quite liked this.

Immortal Wonder Woman - ★ - by Becky Cloonan, Michael W. Conrad & Jen Bartel
Wonder Woman lives to the end of the universe. Bartel's WW looks great and is full of colors that pop. The writing is packed with lots of words that say nothing. This was terrible with nothing to do with the rest of Future State.

Future State: Wonder Woman is an anthology of three series that are a part of the greater Future State event, published by DC Comics. This trade paperback collects: Future State: Wonder Woman #1–2, Future State: Superman/Wonder Woman #1–2, and Future State: Immortal Wonder Woman #1–2.

Hell to Pay (★★★★☆) is a two-issue storyline (Future State: Wonder Woman #1–2) has Yara Flor as the new Wonder Woman, who is from the tribe of the Amazons of the Amazon, came out of obscurity from the heart of the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil to protect Man's World from the magic that is within it. She confronts Cerberus and Charon in order to threaten Hades, who stole her sister. It is penned and penciled by Joëlle Jones.

The Planet's Finest (★★★☆☆) is a two-part storyline (Future State: Superman/Wonder Woman #1–2) has Jon Kent as Superman teaming up with Yara Flor as Wonder Woman teaming up to prevent disaster to their cities as two sun gods –Kuat (Brazilian Sun God) and Solaris, the tyrant sun – an enemy to Superman. It is penned by Dan Watters and penciled by Leila del Luca.

Immortal Wonder Woman (★★★☆☆) is a two-part storyline (Future State: Immortal Wonder Woman #1–2) has Diana of Themyscira as Wonder Woman taking on Darkseid as the Highfather and The Undoing – The Anti-life Equation at the very end of the universe. It is co-penned by Becky Cloonan and Michael W. Conrad and penciled by Jen Bartel.

Nubia (★★★☆☆) is a two-part storyline and a back-up story in Future State: Immortal Wonder Woman (#1–2) has Nubia as Wonder Woman – apparently she is the fable Lost Princess of the Amazons, daughter to Hippolyta and half-sister to Diana. She is to stop Grail, who is collecting nine artifacts that holds the anger of the gods – a very powerful weapon. It is penned by LL McKinney and penciled by Alitha Martinez.

For the most part, these short stories are written and constructed moderately well. It focuses on three Wonder Women: Diana of Themyscira – the original, Yara Flor – a demigod, and Nubia – half-sister to Diana with half of the stories focusing on Yara Flor, which is good, because her character is a breath of fresh air. The outlier of the group is the original Wonder Woman as her story takes place at the end of time – literally, while the others takes place in the possible near future.

As for the pencilers, they complement each other rather well as their styles meshes well with each other, which help with the artistic flow of the trade – no major complaints.

All in all, Future State: Wonder Woman is one of the better collection in the Future State event, focusing mainly on three very different Wonder Women.

I really enjoyed all the all the stories in this book. Four stories staring three different Wonder Women. Good artwork and lots, the stories are a mix of mythologies, with lots of action.

Nubia the new Wonder Woman is used to doing things on her own, this time she might need some family help to unearth some family secrets. A great story to start off the book.

Introducing Yara Flor. What Yara lack in experience she makes up for in ferocity and loyalty. How far will she go to help a friend and sister. The story is called Hell To Pay.

Yara Flor and Jon Kent need to stop arguing about their beliefs in science and deities to actually deal with both.

The book finishes with the original Wonder Woman is back in time for the end of the universe. Can even she and what's left of the Future State universe heroes/heroines or villains stand up to what is coming?

After wading through four previous and tedious Future State collections, I finally hit one I like. And that's mostly thanks to the Yara Flor version of Wonder Woman, who occupies the middle two sections of the book. Joëlle Jones knocks her fantasy-laden section out of the park with story and art, and the team-up with Superman is just fun in a silly way.

The opening part with Nubia seemed like it was just starting to clear its throat, and the ending part with OG WW Diana facing the end of the universe was just too overblown, though almost saved by that big wristband bang at the end.

I read this collection of stories as Singles and I give these an overall rating of 4 Stars!

Superman / Wonder Woman ★★★★ - A great read! I have to admit, the artwork was a tiny bit nicer in #1, not sure what happened in the second issue, even though it was still fantastic. The story makes for a fun read and introduced me to new myths surrounding the new Wonder Woman. I'm excited to read more with these two new Superman and Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman ★★★★★ - Wow, this was absolutely amazing! I am very impressed about this new-to-me character and the artwork is absolutely gorgeous. The story was well written and I am excited to read more about Yara after this. Without doubt one of the most beautiful characters I've seen recently.

Immortal Wonder Woman ★★★★ - This story seemed a bit trist, but the artwork was ridiculously beautiful! Everyone on Earth is dead and Wonder Woman survives them all until she's the very last being in our Universe. But apparently it is not the end. But as nicely put in the comic: "What becomes of a god if there is nothing left of creation?"

Nubia ★★★★ - This is my first time reading anything about Nubia, so I sadly don't know that much about her yet. But it was a great introduction for me and very intriguing! Artwork was stunning and so is the character. I'm looking forward to reading more about her!

The final Future State collection bundles all the Wonder Women stories together.

The Immortal Wonder Woman series looks beautiful, since it's Jen Bartel on pencils. The story's...fine, and does seem to feed into both Diana's post Death Metal status quo and the evil that's sweeping the DCU in some of the other Future State books, but it feels a bit wishy-washy, like it has a lot of words but doesn't say very much. The Nubia back-ups aren't bad, but they're a bit too constricted by the page count, and so we end up with a lot of dialogue and a hasty conclusion.

The Yara Flor Wonder Woman series is also good looking because Joelle Jones is on the art. The story's a bit more of a miss though; Yara doesn't really endear herself after these two issues, and feels like mostly a blank slate still. I love her design, but she needs more than that to be successful long term.

The best story is actually the Superman/Wonder Woman team-up book by Dan Watters, who manages to infuse both Jon Kent and Yara Flor with more personality than they've had in any of their other Future State books (although that wasn't hard).

Another anthology, another mixed bag. This one's on the lower end of the spectrum, but some good art and a solid team-up story saves it from being totally bland.

Future State Wonder Wiman collects Future State: Immortal Wonder Woman 1-2, Future State: Wonder Woman 1-2, and Future State: Superman/Wonder Woman 1-2 of the DC Comics series written by Becky Cloonan, Michael Conrad, Joëlle Jones, Dan Waters, and L.L. McKinnet with art by Jen Bartel, Joëlle Jones, Leila Del Luca, and Alitha Martinez

2/5⭐️ Nubia: Future State - Powerful ancient artifacts are being stolen across the world and Nubia must bring it to a close before an ancient evil is unleashed. This was a very generic ancient evil story that didn't actually have much to tell.

4.5/5⭐️ Future State: Wonder Woman - Yara Flor must travel to hell to save her best friend from Hades. This was fantastic. It was action packed, sexy, humorous, and unique. Yara Flor is a great new addition to the DC universe. I loved the mixing of mythology and bureaucracy. This is by far the best Future State book I have read to date.

4/5⭐️ Future State: Superm/Wonder Woman - Yara Flor and Jonathan Kent Superman team up to battle the Sun God. This was another really fun read. Yara and Jonathan have really good character chemistry.

2/5⭐️ Future State: Immortal Wonder Woman - In the the far future, Diana Prince and the Amazons make a last ditch struggle to save Earth from The Undoing. Too wordy and even though the stakes were high, I never really cared. The art was good and I liked a chance meeting between two characters at the very end, but overall this is forgettable.

This collection of stories was great! I really enjoyed each Future State arch throughout (Nubia, Wonder Woman, Superman/Wonder Woman, and Immortal Wonder Woman). I love the Brazilian references for Yara. It’s about time we had a Brazilian superhero appear in comics and how perfect that we should have an Amazon from the actual Amazons. I was surprised at how feisty she is as the new Wonder Woman. She definitely does not have the patience or grace of Diana, but she is fun to watch and doesn’t take anyone’s crap. I also loved how she spoke up about poverty and pollution in Brazil. She wasn’t letting anyone get away with anything.

Nubia was great too, but her character felt a little flat for me. I don’t know if I just need to get to know the character better or if the story needed to develop more, but I didn’t find myself absorbed in the story. I was definitely obsessed with learning more about Nubia before this and unfortunately this arch left me wanting a lot more. Hopefully we’ll get that later in her series. I was also disappointed to see Wonder Woman villains as her villains. Surely, Nubia deserves to build her own rogues gallery. (Although writers have notoriously had issues with villains in the Wonder Woman cannon.)

I loved the relationship between Jon and Yara in Superman/Wonder Woman. I did get more of a youthful vibe from them. The story was very solid too and I loved the use of Brazilian gods in the story. As long as this series doesn’t try to put its main characters together, I think they could have a great run! (I’ve always preferred Wonder Woman with Batman or on her own.)

Immortal Wonder Woman left me with so many questions, but I loved the premise behind the story so much! So we all know by now that Diana is a God, but is this series saying she’s the God? Like our creator of heaven and earth, leader of the cosmos? Because it definitely looked like she caused a Big Bang at the end of this story. I’m in love with that. Maybe God is a Woman? Why not Wonder Woman?Anyway, I loved Batman and Superman’s strength with Wonder Woman toward the end and the emotion they were able to share. Batman calls her the heart of the Justice League while Superman basically asks her to carry his mantle of hope. It’s a beautiful statement of their friendship. It’s also a great testament to Diana’s courage and strength. Her ability to live and love even during the darkest moments, is what will truly save the world. I’m just not sure how and if it did yet. Hopefully more issues will explain!

I really enjoyed the half of this book that had new Wonder Girl Yara Flor in it, and will probably check out her subsequent standalone series at some point. She’s fierce and hardheaded and charming, and both her stories here had interesting ties to Greek mythology.

I appreciated the African mythology in Nubia’s issues, particularly how Anansi was included, but overall her story just isn’t very engaging and nowhere near as good as her YA graphic novel from earlier this year (Nubia: Real One).

The closing issues with Diana are intriguingly premised on her reminiscing about Earth’s final days while floating in space at the end of time (after Earth and all life on it has died). In execution though, it’s kind of a depressing downer that doesn’t offer much of anything profound in exchange. Instead it’s mostly hollow, smarmy platitudes, like a vision of Batman telling her “If there’s even a single drop of goodness left, it’s worth fighting for. You’ve always been our heart, and that’s what’s most WONDERful about you.” I’m glad someone killed the version of Batman who says groan-worthy lines like that.

It is no secret that I really did not like the Future State event, but at least these stories without the bat family were decent. Now the break down by story.

Future State: Wonder Woman Nubia #1-2
This was a decent story but really something I would expect from Justice League Dark.

Future State: Wonder Woman Yara Flor #1-2
This one started strong but just kind of petered out to the finish.

Future State: Superman/Wonder Woman #1-2
I really hate what has become of Jon Kent, he is this whiny scared all powerful kid in an adult body trying to live up to his memory of his father. It is annoying that he has scheduled his waking life around just saving things and people who can't seem to do even basic things like check if this steel girder is secure or undamaged. Once that is all dealt with then we have a my penis is bigger than yours contest between a sun god and Superman and a evil robot sun and Yara Flor. Story could have been better.

Future State: Immortal Wonder Woman #1-2
This one starts strong but turns into a quietly waiting for the end of the universe and death. Then rebirth.

Honestly, I think these Future State installments from DC were an interesting and fun way to explore the multiverse, especially where Wonder Woman is concerned. There are so many other godly pantheons to explore, it only makes sense that would include new characters tied to those mythologies, and what characters they are!!

As someone who read and thoroughly enjoyed L.L. McKinney's "Nubia: Real One" it was so lovely to see Nubia all grown up and fighting crime. The art was absolutely stunning and it was a really fun story, perfect for any Wonder Woman fan, full of mythological artifacts and secret histories.

I swear my heart grew three sizes with the introduction of Joëlle Jones' Yara Flor, who reminds me a lot of Cassie Sandsmark and I hope that DC seriously considers putting all the Wonder Fam (multiverse edition included!!) together at some point just so I can watch them interact.

Wasn't as big a fan of Wonder Woman: Immortal mostly because I feel like we've seen before a variation on "what if the Justice League loses to Darkseid" a lot lately in media, but the idea of her wielding both the Batman utility belt and a hunk of raw kryptonite was pretty sick

I reluctantly and regrettably ended up reading most of Future State. A lot of neat ideas that ended up "fine".

I read these as floppies, but this trade collects:

Future State: Wonder Woman #1-2 - 2.5/5

Didn't read:
Future State: Superman/Wonder Woman #1-2
Future State: Immortal Wonder Woman #1-2

Superman/WW is cute, but light as a feather, and the Nubia two-parter doesnt make a lick of sense. But Yara Flor's introduction is *spectacular*, and the story of Diana's end is beautiful and poetic. They more than balance out the frivolity of the rest of the collection. Easily the best of the FUTURE STATE offerings.

The best tale is what I’m going to call Wonder Woman The End if it was Marvel just because how far in the future it is.

At times this was as much a
Suoer book as a Wonder book.

Okay!! I've made my way through almost all of Future State now (I only have the Superman titles left at the time of writing this) and I have to say that this! This! Is what I wanted Future State to be. I'm in the minority of people who have actually really enjoyed Future State. Don't get me wrong some of it was not the best. I've found a lot of it depressing or lackluster in some instances. But the Wonder Woman side of things was excellent! I really enjoyed all of the stories this volume collects.

Wonder Woman: 4/5
This is our first real taste of the highly anticipated Yara Flor! I got a little bit of her in the Justice League title, but that was a team book and I didn't really get to know how I felt about her just yet. But here we really get a taste of her personality, her spunk, her strength! I have to say! I think she is going to be making a big place for herself in DC's future. Yara is a fun character and this was a fun story accompanied by really gorgeous art! I have no complaints about this one really, I just wish we got a little more about her origin. However, I know that is going to come in her upcoming ongoing series so I'm okay with a little more mystery surrounding her for now.

Superman/Wonder Woman: 5/5
Loved this one. Yara and Jon's personalities SHINED here. I really loved the mix of Superman mythos with Wonder Woman mythos here. Gods meets Aliens. It was just really fun. This one also had a nice lighter and funnier tone to it than most Future State books, which made this one stick out and honestly just a blast to read. This title has me super excited to get to know these two more in their Infinite Frontier books, in fact I would really love an ongoing Superman/Wonder Woman series featuring them. They have such a good dynamic and they play off each other really well. I think this is one of the stronger Future State books (Up there with Aquaman and Catwoman for me!)

Immortal Wonder Woman: 4/5
The end is nigh! No. Scratch that...the end is here. But no need to worry Wonder Woman has it under control...sort of? This was a fun book that takes us right up to the end of the universe with only Wonder Woman as our guide. I really liked the end here .

Nubia: 4/5
Okay okay okay. I know I've said it before, BUT this is what Future State could have been. I appreciate Nubia's story for the fact that it was not a depressing end of days book. It was not deeply connected to other going-ons in the universe. It was simply a story of Nubia in the future. I think that it sticks out in particular for that fact. This story stands alone from all the other Future State books in that regard. I wish there had been a few more stories like that in the mix, it might have made things a bit more fun at points. At the end of the day this was a fun story and it has me excited to see what else Nubia will get up to in the upcoming DC stories.

Overall I think this is one of the strongest collections of Future State books. All of the stories were good and all of them have me excited to read the Infinite Frontier books. Which is what most of the Future State books should have been doing. I think this collection of books really put the others to shame, even if I did enjoy a lot of the other stories.

Yara and the stories featuring her were outstanding, and I love every single story about Nubia that I can get my hands on. The mythology explored was so fun and you don't need to read other Future State books to understand it. The weak point in this book is the fact that Diana's story was not appealing and didn't feel like it fit alongside the rest.

half my reviews of comics are just me going "idk what i just read" and again that is the case here but what i'm gonna assume this is is a collection of future "what ifs" related to wonder woman??? like in different multiverses these are potential little stories that could happen?? i am unfamiliar with dc i'm sorry are nubia and yara established characters are they in our universe or a different one?

anyway vague reviewzz. nubia's story was short but engaging. i feel like i've heard of her outside of this like is she related to diana in some way? this story left me wanting to know more about her origins and about this mystic key and her tiara/crown and all that

yaraaa: i love her thank you. joelle jones writing and drawing this uGH again the sheer talent i am in so much awe. the underworld as an airport with rewards points was such a delight. CAIPORA IS SO CUTE!! her standing on the boar thing aaahhh. the whole thing with potira, i've had her for 10 seconds and i miss her. legit how good at this do you have to be to make me care this much about characters in so few pages they all feel so lived in.

yara/jon: no ok the way this made me feel so stressed about being a superhero and once again got me thinking about my girl kara danvers. like no one put this burden on them, they just took it up themselves. just because you have these insane superpowers doesn't mean that everything that happens in the world falls on your shoulders and you have to dedicate every waking second of your life to saving others. sure it's a noble cause but please look after yourselves. i love the integration of brazilian myths into this mythos and the american gods-style idea of everything being true at once because someone out there believes. this book really had me thinking about how in this era we've been telling the stories of these superheroes over and over again and how close in the future will characters like superman/wonder woman become like king arthur like how soon until society forgets the origins of these characters and they just become a long ago myth with no origin, just the bones of a story that's always being rewritten? i'm thinking about the similarities between wonder woman and xena and how both their stories draw on the greek gods and how soon will all of these blend together and become one overarching story in the wider public's minds

diana: i 100% picked up this trade cos JEN BARTEL INTERIORS!!! they didn't disappoint i truly cannot put into words how beautiful i think her art is. the COLOURS/LIGHTING!!! the way she shades hair!! the eyesss. i remember her posting about the elements of diana's costume and how she's picked up different pieces from fallen heroes along the way which is so tragic but again idk dc so i don't have that connection to these guys. this story was the most abstract and harder to wrap my head around because it gets sO sci-fi like the complete end of the world as we know it all that's left is nothingness and diana trying to cling onto hope when it's all gone and if it's all gone then what was it all for? you know i love big big theoretical questions about humanity that have no answers. the end was wondrous i loved it also that very last page with diana as a gold constellation i am oBSESSEDDDDDDDD

i'll be thinking about this one for a while yet

DC Future State: A "future timeline, who knows if these things will actually happen" event. Some ideas will play out in Infinite Frontier, and some might just got completely ignored. Also indicated, if possible, is the next title to read in the series!

Previously Reviewed:
The Next Batman
Dark Detective

First in the volume is the back-up Nubia story from Immortal Wonder Woman by L.L. McKinney. It follows up on some threads with Circe but I have to admit Nubia is a new WW for me! Nubia can be found next in Nubia & the Amazons (2021-) #1.

Second is Joelle Jones' young brash Yara Flor in Future State: Wonder Woman. . I enjoyed this arrogant, almost more childlike version of Diana and really want to see more of her. Luckily, I can follow in her Wonder Girl #1.

Third up is a Jon Kent/Yara Flor team-up adventure in Future State: Superman/Wonder Woman by Dan Watters that shows how heavy the mantle of Superman and Wonder Woman can be. As far as I can tell, this does not have a current planned series.

Which brings us to the last story, and probably one of the most sincere of Future State, Immortal Wonder Woman . Without giving too many spoilers, this serves as an endcap to everything going on in Future State.

I have to admit, since I did not know Nubia that well her story almost dragged the volume down a bit, but every story after kept the momentum going further and further. I highly recommend you read Immortal Wonder Woman after you read anything else in Future State!

Collects Future State: Wonder Woman #1-2, Future State: Superman/Wonder Woman #1-2, Future State: Immortal Wonder Woman #1-2

This was a great collection, and the introduction of new character, Yara Flor, was my main highlight. I read all of this in individual issues, so here are some issue-specific reviews:

Future State: Wonder Woman #1:

This was really good. I figured that I would like it, but I enjoyed it even more than I expected. The story moved at a good pace, and I'm a big fan of the artwork. We are getting hints as to where this Wonder Woman came from, and I like the story being told here.

Final rating = 4.5 stars

Future State: Wonder Woman #2:

There's something really great about this series, and I think this character has a bright future. The story and the artwork are a perfect fit here.

Final rating = 4.5 stars

Future State: Immortal Wonder Woman #1:

This was even better than I expected it to be. There were two stories, one featuring Diana, and one featuring Nubia. Both of the stories were good, and both had great artwork. This is one of the best first issues that I've read across the "Future State" initiative.

Future State: Superman/Wonder Woman #1:

In this issue, there are two stories happening, that blend slightly when Superman and Wonder Woman sit down for a chat. I like this Future State version of Wonder Woman, and her mythology is expanded on more here.

Future State: Superman/Wonder Woman #2:

Superman and Wonder Woman of "Future State" have a chance to work together more in this issue. I continue to enjoy the mythology-building, specifically around the new Wonder Woman.

This is a comic dedicated to Wonder Woman and it's a view into the future! What does Wonder Woman look like in the future ? Three stories of what Wonder Woman looks like in the future; Nubia, Wonder Girl/Brazilian Wonder Woman, and Immortal Wonder Woman! The art in the comic book is stunning, all of it!~ Absolutely breathtaking!

(SPOLIERS BELOW____)

Nubia ★★★/3½ Stars
Nubia fights Grail over some enchanted artifacts, these artifacts (when pieced together) have the ability to summon gods, minor gods , as well as do other powerful things. Nubia asks her aunt for help and ends up getting help from someone big towards the end! This comic was okay, the most exciting part is when Nubia tells Grail to "fuck around and find out!". I really wanted to like this more but it just wasn't very exciting. I really love the art here, I especially love the depiction of Nubia's beautiful hair.

Brazilian Wonder Woman ★★★★/4 Stars
This is our first introduction to Brazilian Wonder Woman! In this story Wonder Woman, Yara Flor, is trying to get to the underworld so she can find her sister and so she can save her sister from Hades and the underworld. I really enjoyed the ups and downs of this comic, I loved and passion and flaws that Yara displays. This was definitely worth reading!

Future State: Wonder Woman/Superman ★★★★/4 Stars
This was interesting and really creative. I enjoyed this story because we get to see more of Yara and we meet a new Superman 🦸‍♂️ This story has to do with gods and old enemies.

Immortal Wonder Woman ★★★★/4 Stars
This one made me as emotional as Yara's first issue. In this comic we finally meet up with our Diana as Wonder Woman but it's way into the future, at the end of the Earth.

My final installment of Future State ends with the woman who is changed the most by the events of Death Metal, Diana of Themyscira, Wonder Woman herself.
Highlights:
- We get a one shot of Nubia as Wonder Woman, fighting against Grail, the daughter of Darkseid, and Circe, Goddess of Magic. I don't have much experience with the character of Nubia, but was a good read.
- In "FS: Wonder Woman" we are introduced to the new character of Yara Flor, who will become Wonder Girl when the DCU starts back up after these stories. Yara journeys to Hell to rescue a friend, fighting both the hydra and Cerberus, and learns a valuable lesson.
- Next we have a team up of Yara and Jon Kent, now living as Superman. They must band together to stop a godly dispute when a red sun appears in orbit around Earth.
- In "Immortal Wonder Woman" (great title), we see Diana outlasting everything in the Multiverse, only restart it all by being the light in the darkness. It will be interesting to see how her roles will change in future comics.

Overall, this Volume was pretty good, and Future State as a whole was alright. I'm glad that DC did not go ahead with its "5G" initiative, and kept these as more like an "Elseworlds" or "Tales of the Multiverse".

This one seemed shorter than some of the other volumes. While Yara Flor, who's called Wonder Girl on the cover but Wonder Woman in the book, was the breakout star, this starts with two issues focusing on Nubia. They were pretty good but like a lot of the Future State stories it seems like it's laying the groundwork for something that's never going to happen.

The first two Yara Flor stories started out funny and then turned poignant. The Pegasus hating her reminded me of my Scarlet Knight stories where the Pegasus hates the first Emma Earl to ride it because she's not it's true rider. Anyway, then there are two fun issues of Yara and Jon Kent as Wonder Woman/Superman.

Finally we have the original Wonder Woman at the end of the universe. It's kind of a downer story but it ends up with a hopeful message. Nothing ever ends--at least in comics.

The art was mostly good. The Yara Flor ones were probably the crudest while the Nubia and Diana ones were a lot better.

As I've said with the other three, it can be hard to know where to place these on the timeline--except the last one.

look look I hate Jen Bartel's art for lady superheroes because she can't get out of her "pretty as possible" box so I DO have some criticism for the design of Immortal Wonder Woman, but look I'm not going to lie and say the ending doesn't kind of get me!!! (Actually you know what her style is so much worse for the Spectre oh my god why does he look like that he is the embodiment of the actual literal wrath of god?????)

Anyway gosh remember how excited we all were when FS: WW introduced Yara Flor. I gotta tell you even now sitting here knowing how everything was going to turn out it's hard not to feel some of that excitement still. The artwork is just so shockingly good. The S/WW story is Fine, the second half was better than the first.

As for Nubia it's definitely striking that there is ZERO sense that the plans for her to become Queen of the Amazons were in place when this was written. The story was pretty serviceable and I really liked the taste we got on how to integrate other mythologies into the larger WonderFam (I know technically that's also happening with the Yara stuff but uhhhh less successfully ESPECIALLY in hindsight).

Being that Wonder Woman is basically immortal or a God... or something like that, I would expect her to be fully present during this Future State event. And she is... but there's other Wonder Women now as well!

Like the other Future State volumes, this one has a lot of hits and misses - more misses if I'm being honest.

Some highlights were the story of Superman and Wonder Woman teaming up, except this time its Jon Kent and Yara For, and they team up to fight not only some Brazilian God, but also Solaris as well. This was pretty good, and I appreciated the new generation of heroes teaming up. I also the WW story by Becky Cloonan was pretty good, if only for the art by Jen Bartel. Bartel is becoming one of my favorite artists working nowadays, and this story is gorgeous to look at.

I think the definite highlight was the Joele Jones story, where Yara Flor makes her first appearance. The story is a great mix of action and humor, as Yara's personality is quite different from Diana's. We get a great mix off mythological characters and gods that interact with her, and her attitude of dealing with them was awesome. Definitely the highlight of the book.

Overall, an uneven volume at best - I would say check this out for the Yara Flor stories at the very least.

Maybe the least chunky of the Future State collections, this one has four stories over seven issues, one more than the six billed on the cover. It's been puzzlingly consistent for the Future State collections to have more content than advertised. This isn't exactly a complaint, but I do wonder what was going on there. None of the stories particularly impressed me, though none were bad. Nubia is fine but felt generic. Wonder Woman has great art from Joelle Jones and I liked the way she wrote Yara Flor. I wasn't enthralled by the Orpheus retelling, though. Superman/Wonder Woman does a good job of fleshing out Yara's character and gave Jon some good moments, too, but again the story didn't grab my interest. Finally, Immortal Wonder Woman has absolutely gorgeous art from Jen Bartel, but the story felt too big for the two issues it had. I'm not sure I would have loved it if it had been three or four issues instead, but it certainly didn't have enough space in just two. Overall, a collection that is at least nice to look at, even if the storytelling isn't exactly inspiring.
