This prequel was so needed!

Aileen is a badass woman and I loved seeing her stand up to William. Seeing where the Godwins started was a story I never knew I needed but absolutely adored. Seeing William at the end made my heart ache and I'm now dying to dive into book 2.

What a great prequel to what I already know is going to be a heck of a story! It built a great foundation for the Broken Crown series and it definitely has peaked my interest to the highest for more!

This historical prequel explains *almost* everything!

In Road to Fire, we're introduced to the Godwin brothers and their family's oath to protect the Crown. In this beautiful story, we're given the backstory to that oath, including the meeting of the Godwin and Priest families, their connections to the Royal Family, and a tumultuous love-hate romance that culminates in the torch being passed down through the generations.

This is a quick read, but there's plenty of action packed in this novella. Compelling personalities take center stage as we learn about how James saved the prince, how his sister then saved him, and how William then fought for - and with - her. I loved every bit of this story, and am looking forward to experiencing the entire Broken Crown series to see how it all plays out.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “On my knee, with the stars twinkling in the sky above, I vow to put the Crown first and foremost. And then I vow to myself, an oath which resides nowhere but my soul, to become a woman who is forever remembered.”

Mini Review:
Having never read this author before An Oath To Take was the perfect pick to get a quick feel for the authors writing. And also a sneak peek and what to look forward to in this series. This is a prequel which gives you the background story for the books going forward in this series. But it has so much packed into this little short story. Great characters. Action, and feeling. Even a hint of steam. If this is what the prequel is like, I can’t wait to dive into Road To Fire!

In this book we see how it all began: Hollyrood, the oath to the Crown and the lineage of the Godwin/Priest serving the kings and queens of England.
Is the story of 2 twins: James and Aileen.
He saves the life of the prince and he asks him to be a part of a new project but James refuses and it is his sister who kneels and vows to protect the Crown in order to protect her brother.
And we see nor the man of the Queen and the woman of the Prince have a child who will inherit the oath.

It was shorter than I needed it to be and I didn’t know I needed the back story until I started the prequel.

It was a good insight to how it all started - with a badass Godwin.

I found I needed more about Aileen and William and maybe even Henry - or the relationship with Prince Robert. Mostly Aileen and what she experienced and gave up for the oath. Seeing how she created the Holyrood would be amazing, even though the site was established already for the metal ceremony.

Written in first person from multiple POV, this novella prequel sets up the Broken Crown series. Readers learn how Aileen becomes connected to the crown, how she meets William, and what oath is taken. I am seriously looking forward to reading the rest of the series which feels like it has been on my list forever.

This is a prequel to the Broken Crown Trilogy although it's not necessary to read first. It gives the
background on how the oath for the Godwin/Priests was started. I love Maria Luis' writing and this is no exception.

This was a new to me author that I've heard many great things about so I'm glad I started here to get a feel for her writing. The prequel definitely surprised me.
Can't say much more since it was so short, so instead I'm going to go dive into book 1.

This prequal was not at all what I expected, and it was fantastic. I almost didn't read it since I'd already read book one in the series and thought I could generally guess how it all started. However, I was wrong! I definitely recommend this little prequal to the Broken Crown trilogy.

Oh what a tease. I wanted so much more of William & Aileen’s love story. And I wanted to know all about James…did he find his love? This novella reflects on how the Godwin/Priests came to be protectors of the crown & I love how Aileen showed her fierceness. I just wanted so much more 🤣

I really miss the Godwins.
This was cute and so interesting, I loved that it was a woman who was the first spy of Holyrood and for loyalty to her family -shaking in saxonisla-
