Space Rogues #5

So This is Earth?

Rate this book

Wil never planned to go home again.

Plans change.

Hired by one of the most powerful people in the Galactic Commonwealth to retrieve someone from Earth, a protected planet. A planet that no one in the Galactic Commonwealth is allowed to approach let alone land on

Wil has reservations, the crew wants more bacon. They take the job.

Get in, grab the target, get bacon, and get out.

Easy right?

Wrong!

Things go downhill fast.

While Wil has been off saving the galaxy (more than once, thank you very much), Earth has been busy on projects of their own. None of them good for anyone else.

Not to mention their target isn’t what they expected.

Now Wil and the crew of the Ghost have to decide what to do next.

All while trying not to die, as usual.

There's also the matter of Bennie not wanting to be dissected!

See what happens when homecomings go sideways.

*I reviewed an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review*
I have loved every book in this series and #5 didn't disappoint. It was a fun easy read as expected and what makes this series so awesome are the relationships (that are still building in some cases) and sharp, witty dialogue between the characters. Of note, Gabe's mission continues and I missed him when he wasn't in the book.

Love

This series is everything I want in a scifi novel(s). My only complaint is that I wish they were longer. Funny, fun, light hearted adventures. Can’t wait for the next one.

OK so far this series has been enjoyable, light reading, nothing offensive, or really glaring stupid, or irritating, then just when you think OK, this isn't a bad series... BAM
Out of the blue...
THE . WORST. STORY. EVER.

IT is nothing but a jingoistic, rah rah USA Crap fest.
Totally ridiculous, no merit, not possible even given the most liberal interpretation of poetic license.
JUST. PLAIN. STUPID. (This is what this author consistently does)

Such a tired, cliched , 1950's era, boring, simplistic, xenophobic, POS.

Please do not waste your time.
Plot is basically...
USA finds out about alien tech,
USA manages to reverse engineer, develop and build a space going FTL warship, and all the required infrastructure to support same, in less than 5 years and with total global secrecy. WTF...
USA is corrupt.
USA get's it's nose bloodied, but no true justice, and the hero stops the USA getting it's just deserts, 'cause he's still a "good 'ol boy" when it gets down to it.
Then the epilogue has a weak as, band aid to act as a sop to having gone to far.
WASTE of Time.
Will review the entire series, and re-evaluate

Good read!

Basically good old good guy v bad guy SF....Think Chris Pratt of Guardians of the Universe and you’ve got Will Calder...now that I think of it, all of the Guardians characters are here in altered forms. Just plain fun reading. Modernized Buck Rogers stuff.

Another solid installment in the Space Rogues series, but since this one mostly takes place on Earth, a place I'm awfully fond of, this is my favorite in the series so far, even though they didn't get any bacon.

Wil finally finally returns to Earth.

After getting a job to remove an alien from Earth,Wil and his crew are arrested by the Space Command and told that the Alien is working to upgrade their Fleet. Although not willingly.

Fun read

This series isn’t for everyone.
It is a fun read. It is my kind of humor. I hope John had as much fun writing this as I had reading it.

Earth continues to be stupid and ignorant, but at least the rest of the crew gets to see where Wil comes from

Brilliant read, funny with loads of action and antics where the crew get themselves into trouble an out of it again. Would have been interesting to see what had happened if Gabe had been there

No Spoilers - I thoroughly enjoyed the first four books in the series. This one though is the best of the five! Entertaining, funny and it continues to build the crew and the universe. I recommend reading the other books in the series first however as it will help to make sense of some of the references in this one.
