In my defense, chaos and trouble have always found me, no matter where I am. And having the Arcane Heirs going out of their way to win me over only seems to make things worse.
Conflict is brewing, and I somehow ended up stuck in the middle of it all. The last thing I wanted was to be caught in this tug of war,
Especially now that my magic has become Erratic.
Author note: Erratic is book three of the Arcane Mage series. This book is a reverse harem romance intended for adult audiences. It contains adult language, lots of cursing, and sexual themes that are not suitable for anyone under the age of eighteen. No Opossums were taken out of their mailbox in the makings of this book.
A scientist at heart, T.S. Snow lives in a land far far away, secluded from most authors and readers (rumor has it that if you open your wardrobe you can find her hiding in there trying to take a nap). T.S. has a thirst for learning new languages, even if she is mostly worried about finding out new curse words in them. She has an amazing support system that include a loving boyfriend, her family, friends and her loyal - if completely lazy - dog. When she's not writing, T.S. can often be found causing complete chaos with her friends on social media, inhaling unhealthy amounts of coffee, or napping. Mostly napping.
I am really enjoying the series - probably obvious, since I blitzed through the 3 existing books in like 2 days. But there are a couple things that keep it from being perfect, imo.
1 - While I love Char, her inner monologue is sometimes too much for me. I love the rambling chain of thought jumping from thing to thing as each new shiny thought catches her attention. But it sometimes gets overly meta - there have been multiple times where she goes on about how this isn't a fantasy book and blah blah. It's weirdly jarring.
2 - I want her to stand up for herself. She does this sometimes, and it is awesome to see. But like ... Christian berating her for stuff that wasn't her fault - it is starting to make me nuts. This whole book she's on a "time out" from the AMIA - and that's stupid anyway, since as far as I can see they can't find their butts with both hands unless she's there to help - because of what happened in the last book. But Char didn't do anything wrong! Like, she didn't make a dumb, impulsive decision. She got intelligence. She contacted everyone on the team to share it. Repeatedly. No one picked up the phone and she tried again and again. So she got some other backup, and went to save the day. And she did, and neither she nor her backup were injured. So tell me how she did anything wrong there? I get that Christian is overprotective of her, but berating her for things that aren't her fault (someone blowing up her home) or for things she did 100% right isn't helpful. It doesn't teach her anything. And holding her job over her head feels extra dumb. She doesn't need that job. You need her a hell of a lot more than she needs you. She's there because she likes it. And at this point I want her to quit. If he can't treat her with even the tiniest bit of respect, rather than treating her like a naughty child, then he doesn't deserve her help.
3 - There are a lot of people that seem to be prospective members of the harem that I do not like at all. Logan is a nope to me. He is so fucking full of himself, and his sister sounds like an actual psychopath who tortured Char. Nope. Nope. Nope. In this book he rants at her for not completing his MET in a timely fashion ... when she was BLOWN UP AND IN A COMA FOR TWO WEEKS! I needed her to tell him that he's literally the bottom of her priority list after being BLOWN UP, and if he can't understand that then he can DIAF already (see point 2 - stand up for herself).
Theo is a nope to me. In previous books I was pretty sure that no excuse for why he did what he did would be enough to justify it. He abandoned her without a word of explanation right as her family threw her out with nothing. I don't care what the reason is. In this book, we get the reason, and it is the dumbest fucking thing I can even imagine. If that is the real reason, he's a hard fucking no to me. Fuck. That. Guy. And the way he has claimed she belongs to him? Seriously, fuck that guy.
Char needs to teach all these men that she's not their possession. I think that Blaze is getting it. Anders gets it. Bast definitely gets it. I like all them. But Logan and Theo can eat a great big bag of dicks.
This will be the end of the line for me. This RH is now getting aggravating and way to drawn out. The only way char gets to know these men is she sleeps with one, then a fight between them occurs, then she moves on to another of the RH line up and so forth. Char literally jumps from one bed to another, nothing gets resolved between this setup between The heirs as her lovers. The storyline is now falling way behind because of this. We learn nothing about anything important at all. The first book was great, but the direction this author has decided to take? We will be here forever. And by the time char finally gets over herself and this RH stabilizes, will that be when we get to all the real drama of the actual story? This 3rd book is such a complete waste of endless nothing and I'm over it.
A somewhat entertaining read, but we didn't make much progress on the main plot against the resistance still. This book spends most of the time hanging around Bastille and having him reveal his family secrets to Charisma, and then a little bit of time with Theo at his , and finally some time with Logan and his lab before it abruptly ends with . Pretty much another filler book like the last one. I'm also not seeing much hope for an actual harem anytime soon with this kind of pacing where none of the heirs are actually interacting with each other trying to figure out a relationship together.
Additionally, Charisma was a bit too much of a ditz in this book for me, although I admittedly did laugh sometimes at her comedic timing. I miss the intelligent and smart go-getter from the first book, and I hope the pacing and action picks up in the next book. I'm definitely not a fan of these cliffhanger endings either, but it's not a deal breaker for me yet. ------ Ratings - completed series: #1 Chaotic: ★★★★★ #2 Hectic: ★★★☆☆ #3 Erratic (this book): ★★★☆☆ #4 Frenetic: ★★★☆☆ #5 Ecstatic: ★★★☆☆ #6 Charismatic: ★★☆☆☆
I felt like this book dragged it out, it´s going to take a long time until Charisma have her harem of official. We don´t really get to know the guys, in this book the only one that really got some time with Char was Bastillian. Which is great cuz he has not appeared in the previous book that much.
It's a shame that the author is stretching her series unnecessarily, because it has so much potential, but it is completely diluted in the repetitions of information and the progression of the plot which completely stalls in this book. I also believe that the author has seen too big and that she's having trouble dealing with the 6 men roaming around Charisma. If Necromancers are no longer a threat to Arcane society, who makes the mages believe otherwise and why? If the rebels are led by a handful of pro-violence mages, it shouldn't be hard to stop them, right? Especially for the mages of Arcane society, who have ample means and the strike force to put a stop to their terrorist actions. When the characters don't ask the right questions, the logical questions that anyone would ask themselves in such a situation, it is a sign that the author is artificially lengthening her story to sell more books. And that's really not a good idea. The author is aiming for 5 volumes for this series: three would have been more than enough. I will not read the following volumes.

This was a solid read! I enjoyed the first book a lot, and have been looking forward to the continuation of this series. I did pick it up thinking it was only 3 books, in preparation for this one, but it was recently announced it’ll be a five book series. Which makes sense, because even after this third book, Charisma’s harem hasn’t come together yet.
I think that’s where my hesitancy with this series lies. I would’ve expected there to be a bit more interaction with them all together, but there’s only interactions of them all separately. Also, after the ending of book 2 where they announced a competition to see who gets her (apart from Bastille), I don’t see how it’ll progress into a harem.
I like the slow building of the relationships, like the focus with Bastille in this one. But the plot with the rebels fell to side in this one, as almost nothing was mentioned with this. It was enjoyable and a quick read, just felt like more of a novella?
I do really like the guys though, they’re all unique even if we don’t spend a ton of time with them. Char is cool, though with how often she gets distracted when someone’s talking to her is a bit much.
The fact that my ratings for this series have steadily gone down from book one makes me sad.
The 1st book was pretty cool. Char was funny and her clumsiness was adorable. We also got to see her in action,we were introduced to all the guys and at least got to know them.
Then we got to book two. I should have just stopped there. Most of the guys were missing from the book and when they popped up, all they never mourned her (as she'd been presumed dead), they were just sad that they never got to make good use of her skills. So in short, the guys were basically jerks and Charisma's inner monologues made me want to pull out my hair. At least Blair was a great addition to the story (also, that ending with the deciding to compete for her.... Yuck).
Now for book 3 - The story just stopped. I expected progression with the harem and with the story especially when it came to fighting the rebellion. However, i'm 50% in and nothing has happened. Again, we've only concentrated on 1 guy and Char's inner monologue. How are the guys supposed to come together and share her when they don't even get along at all, never spend time together and somehow only seem to think about her from time to time and its mostly when they need her skills as an engineer? (we're already 3 books in people!!) We still have no explanation as to what's going on with the rebellion and haven't even learnt anything about the other smaller side stories in the book.
Omg absolute GOLD!! I love Charisma as a main character she is my SPIRIT ANIMAL!! Can I have her in my harem... asking for a friend that friend is me. But seriously this book is everything from the very first page before the first page - ok from the dedication I was a goner Charisma is even better in this book and I love her so much. And don't even get me started on Bast's granny haha! But seriously if you haven't started this series yet DO IT RIGHT NOW!!
There are aspects of this series that I love but there are some that made it difficult for me to finish this book. This was my second attempt.
The bones of this story and characters are wonderful. I very much enjoy the magic system and how tech is combined with it. I also like the set up of the 6 powerful families vs the rebels and all of the tropes and elements it brings to the table.
I have mixed feelings regarding Charisma, the main character. I adore the part of Char's characterization that makes her brilliant and strong even though magically she is weak. I even like the idea of her quirky nerdiness. The problem for me is that we spend so much time in her head with her absurd thoughts and strange reactions that it became a lot less charming and a bit tedious to get through. There are so many things that need to happen per the plot but it was all put on hold to be reminded of the same type of thoughts over and over. I can appreciate the author's dedication to keeping the characterization the same throughout but in my opinion there is just a little bit too much time spent on Char's oddities and not enough on how smart and bad@ss she is. I hate to skim so instead I found myself putting the book down a lot.
In regards to the other characters, most of them haven't had enough page time for me to connect to them but so far I am enjoying the various dynamics.
Overall, I am interested enough to want to read the next book. I do hope there is just a little bit more plot progression and a little less mailbox opossum.
I have some real mixed feelings about this installment in the Arcane Mage Series. On one hand, the characters and writing were thoroughly entertaining, on the other, very little actually happened in this book to further the plot. The whole book happened over a handful of days in which things happened, but not BIG things.
The author noted at the end that this will be a 5-book story arc with Charisma as the main character, so I guess this is the top of the hill book before everything starts racing toward the end. Some series are paced that way and there's nothing wrong with that, but I would have liked to see some more set up or bread crumbs to pique curiosity for the rest of the story.
Also, I missed Blaze. I adore Bastille, but Blaze is who keeps me coming back. I like that we got a few hints of humanity from Logan, as well, but he's still too much of a douchecanoe to be taken seriously yet.
The book didn’t have to end there. The next book could have started there. I didn’t think the book was anywhere near close to ending. So a bit disappointed it ended in that manner bringing up a new thing Char has to help with.
Overall I did enjoy this book and getting to know Bast. I wish though we did learn a bit more about the different magical factions. Overall I enjoy the fast pace, and the bouncing around of ideas. Love the whole thing. Char is like me.
This book is mainly about Char, her relationships, the men who surround her and their feelings towards her. We also get to learn a bit more about Bastille and the Necromancers, though there is still tonnes of information about them and their abilities still to be uncovered. Whilst finding out about the necromancers Char finds out there is an awful lot about her world that she didn’t really understand because of the stranglehold the houses have over information.
Whilst Char’s magic has gone on the fritz, she has to remain in hiding. She’s also trying to keep her head down at work because she broke protocol to rescue one of the house heirs, without backup, from a murderous relative whilst having erratic magic.
I really enjoyed the way that this book contributed to the layers of information and character building that has gone on in the series so far. The plot, world-building and character development are woven together cleverly. Whilst I’m enjoying the slow build, the plot was a little slow in this book, which often happens even in the best series because other stuff needs to be focused on, in this case, the relationships and world-building.
I have to say that I really like Bastille. I think he’s a fantastic character and a great bedrock for Char, who to be honest needs someone to bring her down to earth. Bastille seems to be the mage for the job as he’s endlessly patient with her. To be honest, as much as I love Char as a character I think I’d want to bash my head against a brick wall if I spent too much time with her in real life because focusing seems to be a skill she is lacking unless she’s sat in front of a computer.
I’m looking forward to the next book because we still have much to learn about the problems in the Arcane world. We don’t know who is running the Rebellion, who has been targeting Char and who killed Annie. So much information, so little time!
You know, I seriously enjoyed the first book in this series because it was more focused on the heroine’s situation not dicks. I understand the reverse harem and romance is a huge aspect of this series, but it literally takes over to the point that the actual plot is rushed. I am almost having a hard time understanding the mechanics behind all the things our heroine does. She is also cute and quirky which I love in a female lead, but it is disappointing when the romance takes over and proceeds to lose all focus of the plot. I wanted to see more advancement in the heroines capabilities and a slower romance. Everything is just rushed.
Also has anybody seen the anime/novel, “The Irregular at Magic High School”? I almost feel like the author was inspired by this anime/novel which is something I enjoyed so it is doubling disappointing that the story is not taking the time for details.
I liked it, I’ll definitely be reading the next book because I love Charisma and I’m still intrigued by the story! But I struggled some because more than half of the book only had Bastian in it. No show for the other guys. No progression with Logan, Theo, Blaze or Andres or whatever his name is.. I forgot. That’s how insignificant he was. It was 70% in before Blaze entered the story after the cliff hanger of the 2nd book.. idk... Bas needed to catch up for sure, but I missed the other male characters. Also, after the 3rd book, 2 of the male characters have 0 romantic relationship as of yet... maybe it’s just a little too slow paced for me on that aspect of the story. But regardless, still love the story line as a whole and I’ll be reading the 4th book!
The things I know about this series, the author really hates pineapple on pizza, she's mentioned it loads of times now, and I can't say I've ever met someone this passionate about such a minor topic. The author also really really loves opossums, they are referenced a ton. This is in theory an RH but it really doesn't feel that way and I'm not convinced it's something that could even be realistic with the group that is likely supposed to be the RH... Lastly, this has a lot of FMC inner dialog but in the entire book, I think the only thing she actually managed to get done was a side project. I ended up skimming most of the last half and I don't think I'll continue with the series.
Omgoodness! This book was extraordinary! I loved everything!! Charisma’s world is vibrant and full of colour. The disasters keep coming and she is constantly running into things full pelt, but that’s what makes it so fun! Having a geeky heroine is amazing and the pop culture references are epic. But seriously now I want to see that Bowser fantasy played out in a later book! Or at least referenced? Please??
Anyway, if you are reading this undecided about whether or not to give this book a go, do it!! You won’t regret it!!
I really enjoyed the previous two books in this series but this one fell short for me. Really, not much happened and it felt like a filler book. I liked how Bastian was in this book and how much we got to see of him but I felt like things weren’t fully explained with him and Charisma. Then she got a little annoying in this one. She was perfectly ok being sidelined by her job and then just seemed to float along talking about men the whole time, and that was about it. I hope the next book in the series gets back to the actual storylines otherwise this is a series I’ll be dropping.
im really liking the slow-burn, but the heroine is fucking exhausting 😅🙈 she's honestly just manic 24/7, is a genius who can't walk in a straight line, yells at inanimate objects, and rambles on and on. ALL the time. she didn't calm down for a single minute in this book. i love a quirky heroine but this one makes me need to close my eyes and breathe.
the heroes are really great though! there was no insta-love here, their connections with the h all felt very genuine.
however, im not sure whether i'll continue the series or move on. we'll see.

Book 3 left me in stitches from laughing so much. I love this series because it has a cast of fun characters, shenanigans, Char's antics, hot guys, and a smidgen of bad guys. So many series out right now are so heavy, it's a breath of fresh air to read something funny and on the lighter side. I may tie Char to a pole if she doesn't hear out Blaze though. 🤔 #Theoisminebitchachos
It’s going places, but I’m not quite sure where yet. There’s a lot of rambling, a good dose of humor and little plot advancement - but it’s still fairly entertaining. Not all the main players are featured in this installment, beyond a few mentions.
I’m curious what’s going to happen, though I have my reservations about the characters themselves.
So I’ve pretty much binged this book as well as the 2 before it in like 2 days. I’m going to jump straight into the next one because the series is just that good.
Took me from 2022 to Oct. 2025 to finish. I'm not sure if it's the book's fault or mine, but I was bored while rereading to refresh. The only parts I really enjoyed were the parts with Logan.
I really wanted to like this series, but I just... I just can't anymore. I was 67 pages into the book and absolutely nothing had happened. I fast forwarded another bit, turning pages faster to see if anything happened, but instead I found myself with like 3 or 4 chapters alternating between Char and Bast's point of view as they were getting ready to have sex for the first time. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I dislike sex scenes in a reverse harem book, as it's common for them to happen in these books, but not when they split the scene into so many chapters. So I stopped reading the book.
Char's ramblings in the first book I liked, they were fun, however; they started to get annoying in the second, and by this third part, they were completely unbearable. She wouldn't concentrate on anything for more than a few seconds because she was already starting to ramble, the author I think intended for her to be someone funny and a bit awkward, but just to me she was boring and stupid, sometime or other she's okay, but almost always she's not
In 12 chapters nothing had happened except Char playing with Bast, making out, dreaming she was fighting Blair, meeting Bast's grandmother and the only important thing was that she found out he was a necro and nothing else. I can understand that it's barely the beginning of the book, but this is already the third one and I would expect it from the first one, but this one should be less slow and with less unnecessary scenes and start more with the climax of the story. And the fact that only a single one of the love interests is found and that character is given more prominence for almost 100 pages is stressful.
2.5 for me but I rounded down cause I found myself skimming her ramblings by the second half of the book. It’s too annoying, the inability to get to the point. And it was tolerable when she was doing it but now everyone’s getting written the same way, doing the… uh, the same- eh, em, same stuff. And taking way too long to -uh, get… to… the main, uh point. Of the… um, eh, er… story? (Yeah, survive that for 200+ pages).
The series has lost a little more of me for it but the world still has promise and sometimes I’ll suffer through a series and end up liking it by the END so I’m really hoping this is it. I can honestly say it’ll be a fresh breeze picking up literally any other book and reading dialogue that doesn’t… always. Em, go like- eh, like… this. (Does my irritation still show?)
I think the drama caused between her and said guys is a stretch. It’s more misunderstandings than anything bad. Theo feels like the pre-vibes of Depressed Thor when he had a beer belly and no will to live. Not sure if I’m supposed to think he’s sensitive and vulnerable for it. Logan is a slight weirdo but kinda my favorite for being all business. Bast needs to brass up. Blaze is causing drama for his own self. Andy kinda just floats in this one.
The whole story is being drowned by the ramblings. It took two pages of turning on my phone just to get to someone else’s next response line. Two. Pages. And those weren’t even Char’s POV. So yes. Annoying. For me. Not my writing and reading choice. But the world is too cool to just drop (though I very well almost did just to say “Life is too short to suffer through bad things you don’t need to even go through”).
Honestly I’m at crossroads here. On one hand, I love Char. While she’s a little too uh over-sexed?? sometimes, I love her ramblings and well, her in general.
On the other hand, what I don’t like is the pace of this book. Cause let me tell you, absolute jack shit happened this time. Nothing. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Nil. It starts off with where we left off, she’s at Bast’s. And then well. That’s it. 100 pages in and I don’t think she ever left the house?? Heck I think it was all what half a day? One day? I dunno. At some point I started skimming and scanning cause everything was soo slow and there was no progress whatsoever with the plot. Other than maybe the extra look into Bastille and his life. She kept talking about how ‘she was going to find out who sent the text about one minute but she always got distracted’ for the whole entire book. And then ofc very conveniently she is in ‘time out’ with the AMIA. I honestly don’t know what this book brings to the bigger picture. That her relationship with Bast is secured? That little part where she ‘dreamt’ of psycho Blair? Logan’s MET??? Heck this could’ve be a short story/novella and I really wouldn’t have batted an eye.
So yeah. Despite my disappointment, I will be continuing with the series. No doubt. I want to see how everything turns out and you really can’t get the full effect without reading the entire series so. In conclusionnnn. I loved the first book. The second book was I’d say medium paced? Nothing really happened there too until the ending chapters. And then ofc the third book. This book. Slower than the sloths working the counters at Zootopia.and ofc the whole contributing nothing meaningful thing.
Bast Bast Bast!! This was his book to shine, and shine he did! I love this series sooo much! It keeps getting better and better as the books go along.
This was the book I personally wanted because Bast will always be my favourite.😁 The plot also thickens as we learn more about each of the heirs and get teased with subplots! There's still so much I want to know about all of the heirs, and I cannot wait for that to be revealed.
I said it in my last review, but Bast's Nana is the best! I love her so very much.
The FMC! My fave mailbox opossum is back and better than ever! Char is growing as our leading lady. She's learning more about her relationships with the guys and healing from some things in her past. Her and Bast is everything - honestly, it's the best part of the series, in my opinion.
The Guys! While I've spoken mainly of Bast in this review so far, we do also get some quality Logan time with hints of Theo and Andres. I cannot wait for Andres story to be revealed!
I know some reviews don't like that all the guys don't feature heavily in all of the books, but I think this is a great way to get to know and have real interaction with the guys being highlighted - plus it makes sense with the heir's history that it'll take a hot sec for them all to just like each other.
I do appreciate a switch in POVs, and this book does it well to get inside the heads of the guys to show their real feelings about Char.
The Smut! We finally broach the topic of harems in this one! YAY. We do get some hot hot hot one on one scenes, but I think the next book will get even spicier! 🌶
