কে এই নিক কার্টার?
নিউইয়র্ক টাইমস নিক কার্টারকে অভিহিত করেছে 'আমেরিকান জেমস বন্ড' হিসেবে। AXE নামে কল্পিত আমেরিকান সুপার সিক্রেট একটি গোয়েন্দা সংস্থার উজ্জ্বলতম জ্যোতিষ্ক নিক কার্টার। AXE-র পরিচালক ডেভিড হক। বলা হয়, সিআইএ'র চেয়েও ক্ষমতাবান AXE।
নিক কার্টারকে নিয়ে প্রথম উপন্যাস ‘দ্য ওল্ড ডিটেকটিভ'স পিউপিল’ ছাপা হয় ১৮৮৬ সালের ১৮ সেপ্টেম্বর। তবে নিক কার্টার পূর্ণাঙ্গ স্পাই হিসেবে আবির্ভূত হয় ১৯৬৪ সালে ‘রান স্পাই রান’ ব‌ইতে। ১৯৯০ সাল পর্যন্ত নিক কার্টারকে নিয়ে ২৬০টির‌ও বেশি গ্ৰন্থ রচনা করা হয়েছে। নিক কার্টারের বেশিরভাগ অ্যাডভেঞ্চার কাহিনী প্রকাশিত হয়েছে উত্তম পুরুষে। আর লিখেছেন বিভিন্ন লেখক। এ কারণেই ব‌ইগুলোতে কোনও লেখকের নাম উল্লেখ থাকে না। শুধু 'নিক কার্টার' ছাড়া। যেন গল্পের নায়ক নিজেই ব‌ইগুলো লিখেছে। সারা বিশ্বে অসম্ভব জনপ্রিয় এ স্পাই সিরিজটি ত্রিশটির‌ও বেশি ভাষায় অনূদিত হয়েছে। গুপ্তঘাতক অনুবাদ করা হয়েছে ‘Assain : Code Name Vulture’ থেকে।

Nick Carter is a house pseudonym used by Award, Ace, and later Jove, publishing for the series Nick Carter who later graduated to a special agent for the Killmaster novels, a series of 261+ spy adventures published from 1964 until late 1990s.

A great number of writers have written under the pen-name over the years, beginning in September 1886 when Nick Carter first appeared in the 'New York Weekly' in a 13-week serial, entitled 'The Old Detective's Pupil; or, The Mysterious Crime of Madison Square'.

The Nick Carter character was originally conceived by Ormond G. Smith, the son of one of the founders of Street & Smith, and realized by John R. Coryell.

ক্লাসিক হিসেবে মানে যেই সময়ে এই সিরিজ শুরু হয়েছিল, সেই সময়ের হিসেবে বেশ‌ রোমাঞ্চকর বলা যায়। কিন্তু এখন কেন যেন ভালো লাগল না। গল্প গতানুগতিক এবং ধরাবাঁধা কিছু কাজ, সংক্ষিপ্ত কিছু কথাবার্তা দিয়ে নায়ক জিতে গেছেন। অ্যাকশন সিনগুলোও খুব একটা আকর্ষণ কিংবা উত্তেজনা সৃষ্টি করতে পারেনি। ভালো লাগার পরিমাণ মোটামুটি।

Improbable story, ridiculous plot twists, lifelessly written. Ralph Eugene Hayes botched this under the Nick Carter house name. The 86th Nick Carter book. The other 85 have to be better. If I were not on an airplane, I would not have finished it.

A nice rewrite of an old Pulp character. Recast more in the James Bond spy mode. Good quick men's adventure read. If you are looking for some fast paced action and adventure then this is a recommended read.
