It's a shortie but it's hilarious. The heroine decides to go on a date with a vampire but she doesn't know it's a vampire who is going to have her as a bloody meal. And then Death himself comes to the rescue and makes her a Queen in order to lift some of the unnecessary workload from his shoulders. I'm really curious to read the next one with the vampire falling in love.

Paranormal romance with dark humour. Meet death but not has you imagined him. He’s dark, brooding and in need of some help. He’s also devilishly handsome and not so scary.

Mya is about to have her life sucked right out of her. That’s when she meets death. He offers a new life, a second chance... She is to be his queen and live with him near Gnarly Fell, a paranormal town. This is a comedy about a bookworm and her paranormal romance life.

Will Mya and Death be a perfect match in the afterlife?

This is the start to a new series featuring Mya who we meet briefly as a cameo in the paranormals books. Mya has not had the best start and has a bit to learn but I truly loved her and how fun she was to read. Basically, Mya has been employed by death to help him do the job of guiding lost souls where they need to go and let's just say it's not an easy job as Mya finds out!

The stars of the show though are the side characters in this story. They are such a fun bunch and have such a sense of community which I found was missing slightly from the paranormals books. They all could potentially have their own stories so there is scope for more from this crew. I, for one, can not wait to hear more from these guys. If you loved Andie's supernatural dating agency books then you will definitely love this new series.

This had potential and I actually like the premise but the execution is awkward, the romance is cringey and completely chemistry-free. It’s a shame because I do think there’s decent moments of humor but not enough to overcome the bad romance. Oh well.

Suck My Life is Mya and Death’s (The Grim Reaper) story, and for readers who have already enjoyed Andie M. Long’s series The Paranormals, these characters will be familiar to you. This book is the first in a brand-new series and this instalment takes us back to how the pair first met.

I love Mya. She is a bookworm at heart and has a fabulous personality that kept me well and truly entertained. Her new role in this afterlife isn’t as easy as she thought it was going to be, and I love how she gets straight down to business - doing her thing.

Death is the broody guy I imagined him to be. I loved seeing him with Mya. He certainly has taken a shine to her and I enjoyed witnessing their interactions throughout the story.

The secondary characters and the setting of where this story takes place definitely added to my enjoyment. I am certain that if you are a fan of this author’s paranormal stories that you’ll enjoy reading this one too. I award Suck My Life 3.5-4 stars and am already looking forward to spending more time with the residents of Gnarly Fell in the near future.

If you’re like me and read The Paranormal series by Andie M Long, then you know this heroine well. In Suck My Life we get a look at how Mya Malone and Death, yes the Grimm Reaper, get a start on their life together.

Suck My Life was a comical love story! These characters came to life and were absolutely hilarious. There was a clever storyline to how these characters meet and how they go about being in each other’s lives. There are some key secondary characters in this book also. I really enjoyed reading this book, it was witty the entire time. Death was definitely the broody alpha while Mya was the sassy queen!

I am a fan of Andie M Long and will continue to be’ I definitely recommend this book to everyone. Especially if you like rom coms or if you like supernatural/paranormal.

Long writes paranormal books with sass and creativity. I’ve read her other books with vampires and werewolves but we have a new type of character - Death. He has a home for wayward souls but no time to send them off. He needs Mya to be his Queen and deal with the lost souls. Her new role, status and town are unique and come with many questions. Her personality is quite engaging and charismatic for someone known for being a loner, and her humor is catching. Looks to be the start of a fun new series. My early copy came from the author and my review given voluntarily.

Suck my Life by Andie M Long a five-star read that will bring you back to life. This is number one in the Sucking dead books and well, all I can say is when do we get number two!! I need more Gnarly Fell visits in my life. Mya has a choice to make, but will she make the right one? I wasn’t as keen on her when we met her briefly in the Parnormals series, but I really loved her in this one and could picture her and all her dead glory from the tip of her head to the soul of her red shoes. Mya was someone I desperately want to have cocktails with, cocktails not coffee and cupcakes, no matter how tasty they are. What a great story and great world to sink our teeth in to, bring on more.

I've come to enjoy Andie's romantic comedy paranormal romance books. They're just a pure escape from reality with a healthy dose of humor and paranormal. This book was no different. I enjoyed the whole concept of the story, the characters, and the way it moved along nicely. I look forward to reading book 2.

Romance in the most unexpected place...
Now those that are already acquainted to Andie's The Paranormal series may recognise these two as they popped in every now again as side characters...
Mya and Death, what an unusual match but it works beautifully! Death isn't what you normally read as a character or even what you watch on the tv. Yes he's broody and a tad moody but he has a humorous side and a softness that isn't seen often. And Mya is just full of sarcasm that is absolutely hilarious and certainly doesn't put up with no BS even from Death.

This is the start of a new series by the magnificent Andie M Long where you discover how the pair met and how Mya became Queen. This story is full of all the things we love about Andie's writing! Jam packed full of humour and creativity, spice and romance, and most of all the feeling of a great read once you put it down.

Fabulous. Mya loves books and is passionate about helping customers find the perfect book when they visit the book store. She is also a loner, outside of work keeping to herself. One day, 2 sexy men end up at the book store and one leads to a date. Now, this is where her life takes an interesting turn because after the date, she ends up a situation to either die or end up the Queen of the Wayward, working with Death. Wow, what a crazy twist to her life. Now, working with Death and helping souls find their way to heaven or hell could be a daunting task but Mya, she takes it in stride. I love her spunk and confidence. Death is an interesting twist as he is used to being alone but having Mya in the house awakens some things for him. I had fun with this story and am excited about this new paranormal world and where it will take me next. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

If you have ever read this author's books before then you know how great her writing is and how perfectly quirky the characters are. If you haven't read her books you are in for a treat. In this book we get Mya and Death's story, how they meet, her big decision, her new job, all the quirky characters, crazy fun banter and so much more. Suck My Life is the story of Mia, a brand new vampire and Death or big "D". This story is so much fun to read, I love how we get introduced to a new town full of paranormals and how we get to see in a whole new different perspective Death.

Mia's characters is quirky and sassy, she brings Death face to face with desires he has never felt before.

I can't wait for more books in this series!!!

This one is a good read. I thought it was going to be a typical vampire romance story but it took a different unique turn. Mya is snarky. She is funny even when thrown into not so great situations. She has a choice to make die or become a vampire and Queen of the Damned so she chooses the Queen route. She has a lot of bumps to get over and things to learn. Death is there to help her get through it. I loved the relationship between Death and Mya. The side characters were great too and I hope that some of them get their own books.

Mya Malone è una anonima commessa di libreria con la passione per i romance paranormali, con parenti che non vede e non sente da anni e nessun amico degno di nota. Una vita apparentemente triste e solitaria insomma, ma che tutto sommato le è sempre andata bene così, se non fosse che il destino aveva altri piani in serbo per lei come, ad esempio, trasformare la sua vita in uno di quei racconti di vampiri che ama tanto leggere.

Il Libro mi aveva rivelato che, quella notte, dopo il suo appuntamento, Mya Malone sarebbe deceduta. No, non per il troppo cioccolato. Né si sarebbe trattato di un orgasmo, ovvero una “piccola morte”. Sarebbe stata vittima dei canini e della bocca del vampiro con il quale aveva appena accettato di uscire. Mya avrebbe costituito la portata principale della cena.

Forse accettare un invito a cena da parte di un vampiro non era stata una buona idea, e ora Mya si trova davanti a una scelta: morire e permettere alla Morte di traferire la sua anima nel Campo degli Esangui, destinazione finale di ogni vittima di un vampiro, oppure morire per essere trasformata in una vampira immortale ed accettare l’offerta di lavoro della succitata Morte come Regina dei Dannati. Decisione ardua.

«Beh, immagino di dover guardare il lato positivo. Adesso mi trovo qui. La prima cosa da fare è portare a termine la trasformazione, così potrò lasciare questa stanza miserabile. Cioè, se vedessi qualcuno sul punto di suicidarsi, lo porteresti qui a passare la serata?» Era il genere di ironia che avrebbe aiutato Mya ad abituarsi alla sua nuova esistenza. Tuttavia, quando la vidi piegarsi in due in preda a una nuova ondata di dolore, mi rattristò pensare che la sua scelta non fosse stata affatto volontaria. Ma io ero la Morte. E di rado rendevo la gente felice.

Morte è contento che Mya abbia accettato il ruolo, questo lo solleverà dal lavoro presso la Casa delle Anime Inquiete, destinazione degli spiriti appena deceduti e in attesa di una collocazione definitiva. Mentre lei si occuperà di “smistare” le anime lui potrà tornare a svolgere il suo lavoro principale… la Morte appunto.
Quello che non ha previsto è che l’arrivo di Mya presso la sua casa gli farà guadagnare non solo una ristrutturazione dell’immobile e un cambio di look, ma risveglierà anche in lui dei sentimenti che non si era mai permesso di provare, e questo lo turba sopra ogni cosa.

Era come se Mya mi stesse guarendo da una cecità da cui non sapevo di essere affetto, che mi aveva spinto ad accettare le cose per quelle che erano senza cambiarle. E anche se ero emozionato per quella ventata di novità, non potevo fare a meno di temere che non mi avrebbe portato nulla di buono. Perché nel corso di una vita immortale, le novità sarebbero ben presto diventate storia vecchia per Mya Malone. E non avevo idea di cosa avrebbe fatto a quel punto.

Mentre Mya prende confidenza con la sua nuova vita a Gnarly Fell e con il suo nuovo ruolo è evidente che la collaborazione lavorativa con Morte si stia facendo più stretta del previsto, da parte di lei nessun problema, lui è un uomo? Essere? Qualunque cosa sia è affascinante e pare attratto da lei. Comprendiamo invece la reticenza di Morte nell’abbandonarsi ad un sentimento di cui non si ritiene meritevole. Portando dolore nella vita della gente pensa di non aver diritto di provare gioia nella sua di esistenza. Ma non ha fatto i conti con la Regina.

Feci un respiro profondo e sollevai il cappuccio. Afferrai la falce dalla parete vicino alla porta e mi preparai a fare ciò che mi riusciva meglio. Distruggere la vita delle persone. Era un bene che Mya non avesse bisogno di me. La Morte avrebbe dovuto essere solitaria ed estranea all’amore. Chi rubava la vita degli altri non meritava di essere felice.
Anche se il destino di ciascun umano era già scritto nel Libro dei Morti. Tutti davano la colpa a me. E per me, la cosa costituiva un pesante fardello. Sì, recidevo le anime. Ma nel profondo, dentro di me. Da qualche parte. Io conservavo ancora la mia. E Mya me la stava facendo ricordare. Tanto più le stavo lontano, tanto meglio.

Carina l’idea di umanizzare la Morte, di darle dei problemi reali come la gestione di una casa o il senso di colpa, forse però il racconto avrebbe potuto essere approfondito meglio, in certi momenti ho avuto l’impressione che alla protagonista interessasse di più fare shopping e mangiare cupcake piuttosto che svolgere il suo lavoro o coltivare il suo rapporto con Morte che in teoria rappresenterebbe il suo compagno di vita per l’eternità.

Comprendo la scelta di mantenere per tutto il racconto un tono volutamente leggero e spiritoso, personalmente a tratti ho trovato questo umorismo un po’ forzato. Comunque, non è sempre detto che un libro debba dare un messaggio o sviluppare un tema in particolare, a volte può trattarsi solamente di una lettura d’evasione come in questo caso.

Mya è una giovane ragazza con un amore immenso per i libri – soprattutto quelli che parlano di Sovrannaturale, vampiri, streghe ecc.. – e lavora in una libreria riuscendo a capire al volo le necessità dei clienti appena entrati nel negozio. Conduce una vita piuttosto solitaria da quando ha tagliato i ponti con la sua famiglia e sarà così fino a quando uno strano tipo entrerà in libreria con una proposta che, a suo dire, Mya non può rifiutare: morire e basta oppure diventare una vampira e la Regina dei Dannati. Oltretutto la possibilità di scegliere le verrà data dalla Morte in persona che si è presa una cotta per lei.
Cosa potrà mai andare storto ancora? A voi la divertente scoperta 😁

Personalmente vi posso dire che quando ho letto la che c’erano i vampiri non ho saputo dire di no e la scelta è stata una delle migliori fatte finora in questi 2023. Il romanzo che mi aspettavo era diverso e più incentrato sui vampiri – come sono abituata in questi casi – ma devo essere sincera e dire che Andie M. Long mi ha stupita regalandomi una storia divertente, ironica, frizzante e leggera.
Non conoscevo lo stile dell’autrice, ma devo ammettere che l’ho trovato scorrevole, incalzante e passionale.

Per quanto riguarda i personaggi, li ho trovati ben caratterizzati e definiti: attraverso i POV di Mya e Morte – anche detto Grande M – impariamo a conoscere le loro angosce, i loro dubbi, le loro difficoltà e i sentimenti reciproci che nascono pian piano dal loro primo incontro. In particolare, conosceremo il caratterino non da poco di Mya che, oltre ai libri, ama alla follia le Louboutin e fare shopping, è mooooolto ironica e vedremo come la difficoltà ad adattarsi alla sua nuova condizione di vampira le creerà problemi con il compito che le è stato affidato da Morte, ovvero smistare le anime inquiete che sono rimaste bloccate nel castello poco fuori Gnarly Fell, e nel lavoro spalla a spalla con il padrone di casa per il quale inizierà a provare sentimenti piuttosto forti.
Per quel che concerne Morte non vorrei svelarvi molto perché mi piacerebbe che lo scopriste con i vostri occhi man mano che si rivela nel corso della storia, dico solo che l’ho trovato interessante e che ho apprezzato l’idea di renderlo più umano e dargli problemi comuni – come la gestione di una casa –.
Nel corso della storia compariranno anche gli abitanti di Gnarly Fell, una cittadina dalla storia particolare, che vi lascerò scoprire durante la lettura, persone strane e bizzarre che vi faranno divertire parecchio.

Ho amato lo stile e la scrittura dell’autrice nonché la storia e i personaggi, avrei soltanto voluto vedere approfondito il lavoro che Mya dovrà svolgere come Regina dei Dannati, cosa che invece ho trovato un po’ troppo messa in secondo piano ma spero che possa essere approfondita nei prossimi volumi.
Nonostante ciò, vi consiglio la lettura di “Suck my life” perché vi farà divertire e staccare per una giornata; inoltre aspetto con curiosità il secondo volume della serie.

Suck My Life è il primo romanzo di una nuova serie dalle tinte Paranormal di Andie M. Long. Conosco il suo stile perché ho letto la serie Supernatural Dating Agency pubblicata da Queen Edizioni e quando ho scoperto che sarebbe tornata con un nuovo romanzo ho decido di leggerlo ancora prima di conoscere la trama.
In questo primo volume facciamo la conoscenza di Mya, Morte e diversi personaggi secondari che, presto, diventeranno protagonisti a loro volta.

Attraverso il Pov alternato abbiamo la possibilità di conoscere meglio i due protagonisti e quello che pensano/provano l’uno per l’altra. Mi è piaciuto moltissimo leggere il punto di vista di Morte, l’ho trovato davvero originale e pieno di mistero, anche Mya è un bel personaggio, ma Morte ha un fascino tutto suo. Inoltre, è stato interessante anche scoprire a cosa serva la Casa delle Anime Inquiete e c’è un’anima, in particolare, che mi ha fatto ridere un sacco.
Altro aspetto interessante sono i cittadini di Gnarly Fell e le loro storie, per non parlare dell’importanza che i libri hanno nel corso della storia.
La trama corre velocissima e mi sono sentita coinvolta dalla storia di Mya sin dal primissimo capitolo, più andavo avanti e più la mia curiosità aumentava. La narrazione ha un ritmo che coinvolge e i dialoghi sono divertentissimi e ricchi di mordente. Mya ha una vivacità pungente e un caratterino niente male, per non parlare della sua ossessione per le Louboutin e per lo shopping in generale. L’esistenza di Mya viene letteralmente sconvolta e ora deve abituarsi alla sua nuova vita: la sua condizione di vampira, lavorare spalla a spalla con Morte e il suo importantissimo compito di smistare le anime. A complicare tutto è la connessione che scatta tra Mya e Morte.
La storia d’amore non è molto approfondita e per questo spero che Morte e Mya abbiano un ruolo importante anche nei capitoli successivi. Lo stile di scrittura di Andie M. Long è vivace, divertente, frizzante e passionale. I suoi libri riescono sempre a mettermi di buon umore e questo non è da meno. Leggere le disavventure di Mya e Morte mi hanno messo di buon umore e mi sono ritrovata a fine libro con un bel sorriso tra le labbra.

Mya è una giovane donna solitaria che lavora come commessa in una libreria. Per lei è un giorno come un altro quando, durante il suo turno, incontra Lawrence. Splendido, tenebroso e affascinante, non perde un solo minuto e Mya non esita ad accettare di uscire con lui quella sera stessa. Nell’ombra, però, c’è qualcun altro che osserva la ragazza e ne studia ogni singola mossa: la Morte.
Perché sì, Mya quella sera sarebbe morta per mano di Lawrence, o forse dovrei dire per bocca?
Proprio quando la vita di Mya sta per finire, ecco che Morte le pone la fatidica domanda: diventare una vampira e vivere al suo fianco come regina della Casa delle Anime Inquiete, oppure morire e lasciar vagare la sua anima. Scelta complessa per la bella Mya… la sua nuova vita sta per cominciare, o sarà forse un terribile sbaglio? A voi dare una risposta a tale quesito!

Finalmente dopo mesi di alti e bassi di letture, sono stata rapita dalla vivacità di Suck my life, un romance paranormale con una protagonista sfacciata e tutto pepe in grado di far divertire persino il Triste Mietitore in carne ed ossa. Divertente e carino, questo libro è interessante per il suo intreccio narrativo e il suo romanticismo. Un chick lit fantasioso e ironico che racconta le avventure di questa improbabile coppia.
Un inizio di serie intrigante, non vedo l’ora di proseguire con il seguente volume. Con uno stile fluido, leggero e piacevole, tipico di Andie M. Long, l’autrice ci rende partecipi delle vicende e ci trascina al fianco di Mya e Morte anche grazie al doppio Pov. Mi sono piaciuti entrambi i protagonisti, così come i personaggi secondari che fanno da cornice e rendono variegata la storia.
Se siete alla ricerca di un romance allegro e divertente, tenero e senza angst, con tante creature sovrannaturali e le loro avventure, Suck my life è ciò che state cercando. Personalmente, sono curiosissima di conoscere meglio gli altri personaggi e scoprire chi saranno i prossimi ad essere colpiti dalla freccia di Cupido… Decisamente consigliato!

This was a cute book. I would have given it a 5-star rating except for the ending and the gratuitous cursing. I don't care if there are some curse words in books, however, I don't like it when they're overused. It reminds me of a child who has learned a curse word and uses it inappropriately and frequently to shock the adults.

I liked the MC. Mya is funny and resilient. She's had a hard life and yet doesn't spend a ton of time being bitter or whining about it. I'm surprised she doesn't have friends because she seems so likable. She also quickly became friends with a couple of people after she arrived at her new home. That is a bit of a disconnect with how the author tried to make her seem reclusive.

I mostly liked the love interest, Death. There were times when I didn't. Since he is death, it makes sense that he wouldn't always be likable.

Mya and Death are well-developed. The author did a good job with world building. This isn't a mystery but rather a chick-lit so it felt odd not having a mystery to figure out. I think I'd like to read more about this world and some of the others in it. Now that they can find and keep love.

The ending felt anti-climatic. A let down. It felt rushed and like the author just wanted to hurry up and get it over with it. There also wasn't any resolution. Probably because she plans more books in the future, however, books should have resolution otherwise the reader is left feeling unfulfilled.

This is what I saw that made me give this book a try when I bought a while back: "Funny, sexy, and with a hero to die for...literally! SUCK MY LIFE will leave you cheering for its anti-hero, wanting Mya for your bestie, and giggling non-stop."

It didn't hold up to that for me. I didn't get the funny, sexy, no did I see Death as an anti-hero. Don't get me wrong there were parts that were interesting, hence the 2 stars instead of 1. However, there were things that just didn't make sense to me either. The main one being why did she have to be a vampire to do her job? It seems to me she could have lived as other characters did that I won't name since I don't want to give anything away.

And why was Lawrie given any grace. Then when she got overwhelmed with her new job she's told from the beginning and when she expresses her feelings after the fact that she will have to go to The Field of the Drained where she has no option of going to Heaven or Hell. So really her only option is to do the job no matter what.

Like I said before there were things that I liked. I liked the idea of her job and I love what she did in that job when she got pissed at Death for his stupidity. I like the idea of this town and its inhabitants also.

Quando mia figlia mi ha proposto questo libro ero molto scettica: di solito non mi piacciono le cose non reali e un libro con i vampiri mi spaventava un po'.
Invece mi sono ricreduta e mi è piaciuto molto.

La vita di Mya è normalissima, lavora in libreria e tutto sembra normale, fino a quando un bel ragazzo moro entra nella libreria e la mette di fronte ad una scelta: morire o diventare una vampira e Regina dei dannati.
Naturalmente sceglie la seconda opzione e ora Mya deve fare i conti con la sua nuova condizione.
E grazie al suo ruolo di regina, si ritrova nella Case delle anime inquiete dove arrivano tutti i "nuovi morti" da giudicare.
E a complicare tutto c'è anche la Morte che si è invaghita di lei.

Primo capitolo di una nuova serie abbastanza lunga, quindi anche introduttiva di molti personaggi che saranno protagonisti dei volumi successivi.
Non avrei scommesso 1 centesimo sul libro, invece mi sono proprio divertita a leggerlo. Il libro è molto scorrevole, ci sono molti dialoghi divertenti e irriverenti. Peccato che la storia d'amore resta un po' in sottofondo ma confido che nei volumi successivi ci saranno dei bei sviluppi.
Continuerò sicuramente la serie.
