A devoted companion. A vivacious best friend. And a magical power beyond compare. By all accounts, Coral should be happy, but her father’s disappearance still haunts her. Coral uses the knowledge she’s gained at the Academy to find him, but will her obsession lead her closer to her father or to her greatest enemy?
A visit to the Royal Palace leads Coral to discover a new magical ability and a new potential ally, both of which could reunite her with Aquatica. Believing these to be the keys to finding her father, Coral devotes her considerable strength to achieving her goal.
Meanwhile, Coral’s true enemy discovers her plans and devises a trap to strip her of her magical talisman. Little does Coral know that each step she takes towards her father is also a step towards facing her enemy. Will Coral have the strength to see her father again or will she fall victim to the Master’s cunning?
Maelstrom is the third installment in the Ocean Academy series. If you enjoy reading stories filled with underwater magic, animal companions, evil plots, teenage drama, and sacrificing everything for the truth, then you’ll love Coral’s third year at the Ocean Academy.
“Maelstrom” by Sarah Elizabeth, is the third instalment in the “Ocean Academy Series”, an original take on the academy genre, set in the ocean that features a vast array of maritime creatures, and whose MC Coral, a human/octopus hybrid girl is without doubt the most original character in YA academy.
After the shocking events of the previous year, Coral returns to the Academy for her third school year, still being haunted by her father’s disappearance. After going to the Royal Palace, Coral gains a new ability, that she tries to perfect as all cost, believing that is crucial to find her dad, while in fact is a two-edge gift. Absorbed into her own beliefs, and stalked by the Master, Coral doesn’t realize that her path not only leads closer to her dad, but also closer to the Master trap.
True to the spirits of the series the story is action-packed, fast-paced and filled with twist, secrets and unexpected turns, a truly emotion’s rollercoaster until the very last page. Once again, a wonderful continuation to the series: very well written YA story; interesting plot; good developed characters, setting in a very original world; and suspense from start to finish… it has everything you could ask for 😉
Sarah Elizabeth didn't disappoint with the third installment of the Ocean Academy series. She starts with a visit with the oracle that tells her that there is a path to her father; she must decide to turn into the monster or not along this journey.
This is the first time I wanted to slap Coral several times. She continues to not disappoint when she shows her strength. She still has a strong will and the desire to do anything.
Something changed in her during this book and she lost everything she has ever had. Will she be able to recover from her mistakes. Her mistakes lead her right into the face of someone she has been looking for but it's not her father it is the master. How will she defeat the master? Will it be alone? Will her friends stand beside her?
As before this book leaves off in a place where there needs to be another, and I for one will be excited once it comes out.
Honestly, I think this series just keeps getting better and better with each new book. Maelstrom by Sarah Elizabeth is the third book in the Ocean Academy series and it doesn't disappoint! As I've said in my other reviews for this series, it's really refreshing in terms of character and storyline design. I actually would even go so far as to say that this is by far the most unique Young Adult Fantasy novel I've ever picked up, and I've certainly been around the block!. If you like quirky but unique fantasy stories that take place under water, this is definitely a series for you. It's fast-paced, which I loved and there's plenty of twists and turns in the storyline to keep you well interested!
Maelstrom is the third installment in the Ocean Academy series. If you enjoy reading stories filled with underwater magic, animal companions, evil plots, teenage drama, and sacrificing everything for the truth, then you’ll love Coral’s third year at the Ocean Academy. Sarah Elizabeth continues to create her magical world. This book had a great story line, building upon the characters introduced in the preceding novel. The author showed maturation in her writing from her previous novels and this one flowed wonderfully, keeping you engaged from the beginning. This novel is brilliant! I gave this honest, voluntary review after being given a free copy of the book with no monetary compensation.
Maelstrom: Ocean Academy Year 3 by Sarah Elizabeth is such an amazing story to read. This is book number three in this amazing series. I am so hooked on it and waiting on the edge of my seat wait to read the next amazing book in this series the story just keeps getting better. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about academy stories and paranormal romance.
I received a free copy of this book via Story Origin and am voluntarily leaving a review
I really enjoyed this book and think Ms Sarah is a five star writer. The underwater academy is such an interesting location for the series. This story is about an underdog who rises up under non ideal circumstances, not knowing who to trust, to right an injustice. I recommend this book whole-heartedly!
In this 3rd book of this series Coral goes through so much with trusting and loving those she holds near. Her poor father and all that he has endured it is no wonder that he has such a strong daughter. I was given an ARC copy of this book and I truly enjoyed this book and the rest that came before and all the challenges that Coral has overcome.
Another great story third in the series, more intrigues and betrayals, more of the conspiracy revealed. I am loving these characters despite their sometimes understandably childish antics being teenagers after all. A must read and a great follow up to the first two books. I look forward the book four. I received a complimentary copy from Storyorigin and an leaving a voluntary honest review.
Omg! There is so much to unpack here. The plot went from heating up to boiling! I so love Coral. She's been through so much, yet she's so strong. She makes mistakes, but she learns and becomes better. I have two more books, and I can't even begin to understand how this will all play out. Players from the past are all coming to fruition!
Another great read continuing the story of Coral at the Ocean Academy! With a visit to the Royal Palace and further information revealed the enemy who's pulling all the strings along with some new magic mixed in Maelstrom is an excellent follow up to books 1 and 2 in the Ocean Academy series.
I had been looking forward to this next instalment. I found it harder to get into the story this time around. It was not a free flowing as the previous two books. Still love the way Coral is developing her gift and trusting her feelings more. Looking forward to read more in the future.
I'm glad the Master's identity is revealed to Coral and she met her aunt Aquatica finally. I can't for the finale of this series. I have enjoyed each book thus far. I hope Coral and Flinn resolve their issues in the next adventure.
Maelstrom is the 3rd book in this action filled series and Wow, yet another action pact year for Coral and her friends. This year has been Coral focusing on reuniting with her family no matter the cost. Which has left us now wondering, what will happen for her and her relationships now that she is willing to risk it all on the beliefs of a stranger? Will she find out finally who the deadly force is who's been trying to get her talisman for the last 3 years? We'll just have to wai and see 😉
