"An engaging account about the way unhealthy entanglements can affect an actor’s life.." - Kirkus Reviews
The life of actor/choreographer/musician Columbus Short has been punctuated with trauma that extends well beyond the plot lines of his previous role on the hit series Scandal. Short has lived many lives packed into one-from a family filled with turmoil to tumultuous love affairs and enough scandals of his own. But somewhere in the middle, Short's realization that there has to be a better way comes into full view. "Short Stories" not only details Columbus Short's journey from childhood to Hollywood, it shows how even the most checkered of pasts can create a different person with the right amount of will and drive, especially when it comes to fulfilling your true destiny.
Remarkably interesting!! He details his truth while owning his shxx. I have always admired Mr. Short as an actor. When I first read and heard all the unfavorable comments in the news, I often wondered what percentage is totally accurate. This autobiography is a journey of a black man’s drive and determination to succeed. Despite the curveballs of life from childhood, family, marriage, and career, he is foraging forward with God’s mercy. A quick read in which he gives his side of the story and a brief understanding of his philosophy of life.
Just finished this one. Very quick read. Very easy sentence structure. The first half moves very quick as he covers the multiple incidences of his childhood. For me, it slowed down a bit when he got to his adult years and starts detailing his career. However, ultimately I think it's a cathartic writing for him or at least it feels that way for me. I'd recommend it particularly to somebody fighting uphill battles or needing an infusion of hope to keep going. P.S. Not told in chronological order.
This was entertaining and informative. There was so much about Columbus that I never knew and it was nice to see him come out a better man.
I will admit that I prefer personal essays to autobiographies. The writing was okay but it did feel more like a very long interview rather than the story of his life from his point-of-view.
Quick read & he’s very transparent about what’s happened about his life. Was torn on if I wanted to even read it due to his DV issues but he does touch on it & I definitely think his upbringing etc is a lot of what he’s ended up going thru. His accountability about certain things idk just seemed off & the Denzel segment was still puzzling. Overall it was a decent read.
