Veil #1

Veil : Température orange

Rate this book

The art style in this is so vintage and unique. Such elegant, genuine vibes with short chapters and a very sweet dynamic between the two main characters. Reading this feels like being in an odd, romantic daydream~

Updated Review: 9/28/25: I truly cannot get enough of this manga!! I adore it so much and wish we had the whole series available in English! Easily my third or fourth time rereading this first volume!

Original Review 3/2/25: I am trying to think of how to start this review because I LOVED THIS SO MUCH!!

I've seen plenty of art of Veil, but reading the volume for the first time FAR surpassed my expectations! I adored it so much!! The number of butterflies I felt when reading and the squeals I had were so much greater than I had prepared for and cannot wait to hold this physically!

Outside of my excited feelings, it's hard to compare this manga to anything I've read before because it truly reads like an art book with a touch of story to connect it all. It's an incredible experience as a reader because there are always pages of art between each chapter and then even occasionally a monologue from our lead's perspective. I really really enjoyed the flow of the story and how it was such a visual feast to the eyes!

For our leads, I LOVED them both! I especially love how smitten our police officer is with our girl! This is the second romance I've read with a smitten male lead and I'm thriving! I love how he couldn't take his eyes off of her and was a total (sincere) smooth talker! I also loved our female lead because she is strong, fierce, and fun! She is a wonderful heroine to read about and admire her wanting to experience the world and all its beauty.

Truly, I cannot wait to read more of this series and desperately hope we have fast physical releases because this is one I am very much looking forward to rereading often! Highly recommend it!

*(I received an e-copy via NetGalley, but have had this volume on PO since December. All thoughts are my own.)*

Him picking out her outfits and doing her makeup for her? I'm in shambles. It's often hard to find manga where the disabled person is treated equally to the "love interest", and I'm beyond pleased with how carefully her disability is represented. Beautiful art with a tender story.

My thanks to NetGalley and UDON Entertainment for an eARC of this book to read and review.

This was...not what I was expecting. The scenes are more like loosely connected vignettes than a proper, linear storyline. The artwork was good, the characters were interesting, but the story was too disjointed for me to 100% enjoy it. The cover of the two books are absolutely STUNNING however, and I am contemplating buying both just so I can display them. Chef's kiss!

I did find it interesting that the story takes place in what seems to be Russia/that area of the world, which is not the usual setting for manga/manhwa/etc., so it has that going for it as well.

This didn't wow me as much as I had hoped it would, but I definitely recommend it if you are looking for something different. I would be interested in reading the second one should the opportunity arise in the future.

3, kind of on the fence with this one but I did like it, stars.

Bellissimo.

I am mesmerized, mindblown, heartwarmed with these little idyllic stories of a couple in the city. And the ART!!! I can’t, it gives me all the feels.

He's a police officer. She's the blind, runaway daughter of a wealthy family. Together, they're flirting, in a series of almost frustratingly brief vignettes that quickly move their relationship along with little stolen moments and a focus on fashion.

Odd but very sensual and compelling.

The first volume of Veil doesn't really tell us much about the plot of the story, I guess, but the art is spectacular. Not only the colours and figures have a dreamlike quality, but that is reflected in the barely there conversations between the two protagonists, who seem to communicate through their silences and fleeting touches.

If you liked Mr Darcy's hand scene in Pride and Prejudice (2005) you might like this manga.

This romance manga provided me the same warmth that Anastasia (1997 film) gave me when I was a child. It felt nostalgic even with me going in blind. *ba dum tss*

From blurb:
Like a classic film, he and she encountered each other by chance. He was an on-duty police officer in the city. She was a blind, runaway heiress. When he learned that she is looking for work, he decided to welcome her as the police station’s telephone operator… this was the beginning of the everyday lives of he and she, and the delicate distance between them.

My thoughts:
I feel like I reverted back to being a child wrapped in my favorite blanket. This was breathtakingly beautiful as a whole. The unique and vintage art style, the slow burn and pure friendship between the main characters, the witty dialogue and monologue, and most importantly, the wonderful storyline.

With this being a lighthearted, leisure read with beautiful illustrations, you’ll definitely want to take your time to admire instead of rushing.

Regular manga reader or not, Veil will be one of those reads where you think “everyone needs to read this.” I will think of these characters and story for a long time. Truthfully, I cried at a wholesome moment. I cannot wait to read the rest of the volumes.

Huge huge thanks to NetGalley and Udon Entertainment for allowing me to read this auto-approved ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Received an arc from NetGalley in exchange for honest opinion, thanks!

It's such a beautifully drawn story, a real treat for the eyes. Emma and Alexander's history is intriguing, but manga itself consists of just snippets of their life, it's no surprise they're called "scenes" instead of "chapters". I do wish it was more developed, as there is a pure charisma beating under the ink.

Plus it could have been yuri. There was even a kiss between two women! /lh

Someone described this as an art book woven with a thread of a story and that's exactly right. The illustrations are museum worthy, both vintage and modern, and definitely unlike anything I've seen in manga. There's very little in the way of a narrative, as this is just short glimpses into the connection between these two characters, but it works. Their flirtations are so smooth and clever that these glimpses are a joy to see.

I love manga with beautiful art and this certainly delivered. I can see every page in a fashion magazine, especially Emma's outfits that are drawn with so much detail and how Aleksander's outfits complimented Emma's; they just have such a nice, fancy aesthetic together and I love it. The general aesthetic of this story is just so cute and the art is just so pretty.

Emma and Aleksander's relationship is so- ugh, makes my stubborn heart want what they have desperately. This story is told through snippets of their everyday life together with no particular narrative but it works so well. It shows their bond through little moments really well, they're not grand romantic gestures but that's the reason I like it so much. I definitely have a soft spot for that kind of romance in media. Although, I do have to say I would've liked a progression of how their relationship came to be and then these little moments but I still loved it nonetheless.

I would kill for an English translation physical copy of this and the rest of the manga to be translated, please.

if there's one thing that stood out to me in this book it's the art style. It's giving 1960s Hollywood glam, Marilyn Monroe-era vibes with the witty dialogue of a 1930s black-and-white film. The choice of colour drew me in from the first page and the two main characters ooze with class I wish this was a movie. TBH stories (especially manga) that treat disabled characters as equals to their s/o is not that common?? so I’m pretty happy with the way the fmc was written and the thoughtful acts of service by the mmc was just the cherry on top! The romance was budding (slow burn, just how I like it <3) and the pacing was quick....though you get kind of just get thrown into the story and the chapters are too short for my linking- the overall reading experience is one i will recommend.

”Stay close to me, okay?”

Two months after, and this lines still riles up my lonely heart. This is just so heartwarming and cozy, as if a blanket wrapping around you on cold days and chilly nights. The work of magic orange does is simply beyond amazing. I’m still in love with this. I’ll come back again when I need a palate cleanser, or simply want to experience this kind of touch in my heart again. Such fine piece of divine art, this one.
