slobodna i sretna poput ljetnog lahora,
prelijetla je šume, ušća, planine, jezera.
slijedila je zov i pjesmu svoga jata:
malena, malena dobro nam došla ti!
dođi, leti, jugu kreni!
gdje topli vjetar promrzla krila grije,

A wonderful and magical picture book! WOW!

A little goose, apparently without any family, feels that something is up when the seasons change to fall, but what does she have to do? She has no family to tell her what to do, but she got friends and they are more than eager to tell her what they are up to. I had fun seeing each of her friends prepare for the cold. But you can imagine that those suggestions may not work for a goose. I had a laugh seeing her try to chop down a tree with her beak. And sleeping all winter and collecting leaves is also not easy when you are tiny like our goose. I had to say that I felt both sad and worried. Sad because I was just hoping that she would find her tribe, and worried because what would happened if she didn’t figure it out? I just wanted to give her a big hug.

The ending just made me smile ear to ear, that was such a sweet and wonderful ending.

The illustrations are just the BEST, really, they are absolutely gorgeous. At times I was done reading, but I just stayed on the page to look at more details in the art.

Also look at the end-papers (is that the right word?), they tell even more story and also compliment the ending.

I definitely look forward to reading this book again. Not this year, but next year autumn? I will probably pick up this book again!

All in all, READ THIS!

5 sterren- Nederlandse hardcover

Zonder dagenlang regen dan he?

I absolutely adore fall colours, warm and inviting. From warm yellow towards pinkish red, all of them make me feel happy, cozy, and welcome. So this picture book is right up my alley.
The illustrations are gorgeous, the rhyme scheme is simple, easy to follow, and pleasant to listen to, and this is definitely the book to start off the colder months with.

Grandios. Lieben Gruß Sonja/Shaaniel

Autumn gently lends its warm colours to the forest setting and whilst all the animals, in their own way, prepare for Winter's touch, goose isn't sure what she is meant to be doing. She knows within her that something important is meant to happen but cannot fathom out her purpose during this seasonal transition. Should she be building a dam like her friends the beavers? Perhaps she should be storing nuts like her squirrel neighbours or building a den like the bear family? None of these activities sit right with goose; how come they sit well with all the creatures she cares about? When a swooping sky-shadow blocks out the sun one evening goose looks up and finds the answer.

I have enjoyed Woollard's light and gentle verse ever since reading The Giant of Jum. Her rhyming couplets throughout Little Goose lend a rhythm to the story that invites a sense of gentle inquisitiveness. The pace at the start meanders as goose revels in the end of the autumn days with her forest friends; then picks up pace as the realisation hits her that she should be following her instincts until long ululations of verse roll out over the final pages.

Without a doubt though, it was May Smith's gorgeous illustrations that drew me to the book. Her conveyance of the warm glows of autumn in the trees and the leaf-littered landscape invite you into this story from the cover. From double-spreads to rounded vignettes, these pencil drawings, overlayed with colour in Photoshop, find that balance between hand-crafted illustration and the soft digitisation. Each spread is a treasure.

The story of a young goose finding her calling is a frontispiece for an equally lovely story about the changing of a season and nature's way of rolling with this be they plant or animal. Little Goose's Autumn is a gorgeous book to share and treasure.

Drifting into Autumn: A Review of Little Goose’s Autumn

There’s something gentle and golden about Little Goose’s Autumn - a picture book that feels like stepping into a story told beside a crackling fire on a crisp October evening.

Elli Woollard’s lyrical, rhyming text follows a little goose preparing to leave for the great migration south. But change feels scary, and Little Goose wonders if staying behind might be better. The story gently explores that universal childhood worry: leaving what’s familiar to face something unknown.

What truly brings the text to life are Briony May Smith’s illustrations. Each page is like an autumn day captured on paper: warm russets, deep greens, drifting leaves, and sweeping skies. There’s a softness in her art that perfectly matches the tenderness of the story - you can almost hear the rustle of feathers and feel the chill in the breeze.

At its heart, Little Goose’s Autumn is about courage, belonging, and the beauty of the seasons turning. It’s a perfect book to share as summer slips away and the first leaves begin to fall - reminding little ones (and grown-ups) that sometimes, even when change feels scary, it can lead to something wonderful.

A wonderful story which reads really well. I really enjoy rhyming books and I think they lend themselves well to read aloud texts. This style of writing adds good pace to the text, allowing the verses to easily roll into one and other.
This book tells the wonderful story of how animals prepare themselves for winter. Goose struggles to find others like her. She tries doing what the other animals are doing to prepare for winter but non of them feel right. Goose wonders how all the other animals, she cares about, seem to be finding things they can do. Goose finally finds other geese like her, who migrate to another country where they spend winter.

This would be a great book to use alongside a seasons topic where you could talk about seasonal changes, as well as think about animal habitat and migration, and look at what different animals do to prepare for winter. The style of the story naturally allows children to ask questions about the setting and the animals.
A fantastic book which I hope to share and enjoy with lots of children.

The colours were probably my favourite thing about this book, so rich and verdant. Undeniably visually appealing and educational on different animals seasonal behaviours.
