Following the same routine, day in and day out, Charlie Winters was about to give up on getting the break she deserved. Things begin to look up when her brother Nick suggested she to come to New York to work at his landscaping company. Moving from the small town of Cedar Grove to the big Apple was everything Charlie dreamed of, until her brother witnessed a brutal murder, which put his life in danger. Charlie would do everything she could to protect him even if it meant contacting the boy she fell in love with as a teenager. Leaving the only girl, he had ever loved, the last thing Ryan Hyatt expected was to run into her, especially in Manhattan. Regretting his decision to push her away after he had enlisted in the military, he tried to make it up to her by offering to protect her brother Nick. When tragedy stuck, he soon found that his brother Josh may have been involved. Ryan would stop at nothing to protect the woman he would never stopped loving.

My love for writing began several years ago after an early retirement from a demanding job that I loved and hated because it consumed so much of my time. Now, I can focus my time on what I love. Writing romance has been a lifelong dream and to actually say that I am a published author is beyond what I would have ever expected.
Even though some may say I have a little naughtiness in my books, I look at it as an added bonus for my readers. After all, what is a romance book without a little spice?
When I am not writing, I enjoy spending time with friends either at home or out on the town. Mostly, I enjoy a relaxing night at home where I can enjoy a glass of wine in the company of a good book.
Out of everything, she enjoys driving in her little convertible with the top down.
I know I want to read the next book in the series because the hero is very intriguing, but I am afraid I am not going to like the book. Ryan could have been a good book if I believed that Ryan was working for a security company. In a couple of situations the clues were painfully obvious and yet Ryan couldn't see them. If Ryan was ordered to protect me I would have been afraid. I could have liked the book, but it didn't work for me in the end and I just stopped trying to like it. The heroine was a good person, but what kind of sister stares at her brother's arse? And likes what she sees? That creeped me out and since it happened in the second chapter it kind of sealed the deal for the rest of the book. You want to sell us your brother as a catch? Don't do it like that. Incest is never a good thing. I am going to stop my review here because the best parts of the book had to do with Josh and I cannot comment on his story. I would say, skip this book and go for the next one.
This story had a good premise and the characters fit with the storyline. I enjoyed the small town girl, city boy connection with the H/h and there definitely was a chemistry and believable attraction between the two of them. I would have really liked the suspense part of the story to have had a bit more depth as there were times, it seemed a little over the top (maybe, the author intended it to be this way). It was akin to a B rated action movie.. you don't watch for an Oscar winning performance, you watch for entertainment and an escape from real life. Pacing of the story was good and character development worked well. The twist in the story was definitely a good one and I didn't expect it. I actually would like to see if the author runs with a new storyline to follow this character. If you're looking for an action story with some sexy scenes, this instalment of the Jagged Edge series is for you. D 3/5
What a great read!! This book was filled with non- stop action and is steamy hot. The story of Charlie and Ryan was well written and flowed nicely. This book is part of a series but can be read as a standalone. Ryan is the first book I read in the series however I am going to go back and read them all. I would recommend this book.
Ryan is apparently one of a long series, but it's the first one I've read and had no problems understanding what was going on, so it's a standalone.
Charlie was dumped by the love of her life years ago so he could enlist. She's been just drifting along since, having had to drop out of school to take care of her parents. Now the time has come for her to finally get out of her small town and go to New York to live with her beloved older brother, Nick. It's Nick that will crazily lead her back to her first love, Ryan. When Nick gets into trouble, Charlie calls the one man she knows can help her - Ryan, who works for Jagged Edge Security.
While I like the premise of Ryan, the execution is severely lacking. First off, I have to get the first and most glaringly weird critique out of the way, early on in the story, Charlie is noticing her brother's body, the brother she apparently hasn't seen in 6 years. She makes a really inappropriate and gross observation in her head about one of her brother's body parts. I mean really, making note of how tight her brother's ass is is not only inappropriate, but it's just plain disgusting. Shades of puke much?! Anyway...beyond that, Charlie and Ryan reconnect with little discussion about how Ryan broke her heart years before. Sure, he says he's sorry, but there's I think one line and she just boom, gets over her broken heart like that. Third, the suspense portion of this story is actually a lot more interesting than the romance, which is pretty bad, because the chemistry between Ryan and Charlie is really, um, how do I put this? Well, boring I guess is the correct word. The sex scenes are bland and I had to start skipping them because I was starting to really drift while reading them. And finally, although the suspense part is more interesting than the romance, Ryan, in no way, acts like he really works for a top notch security company. He doesn't come across as observant enough, or skilled enough, to be a premier security operative. He comes across as more of a regular every-day guy trying to behave like he thinks a security agent behaves. As in, not believable and not all that assuring that he could protect anyone, let alone the woman he loves.
Let's just say that Ryan is a pretty bad romantic suspense and leave it at that. I'm not even sure it deserves 2 stars, 1 might be more appropriate, but I'm in a giving mood, so I'll leave it at 2 stars.
I received an ARC via NetGalley for an honest review.
This is the first book in this series that I have read and I can honestly say that I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything. The story did a pretty good job of helping to fill in any blanks and didn't leave you wondering what you were missing. With that being said, I think I am going to have to start at the beginning of this series because I want to know more about each of these delectable men.
Charlie's life was lacking in more ways then one, so when her brother offered to move her to New York, she was excited to go. Not only was she going to be able re-connect with her brother, but she was going to have more opportunities in general. The last thing she expected was to also re-connect with her first crush and the man who broke her heart.
Ryan has always loved Charlie, but when he left for the military they lost touch. When she walks back into his life, he can't believe his luck. He will do whatever it takes to keep her right by his side; however, the last thing he expects is for his family to cause her family any problems.
I really enjoyed getting lost in Ryan and Charlie's story. I loved how they both still cared for each other after all this time. With all the twist and turns in this read, you were not sure what was going to happen next. Once I started, I could not put it down. I wanted them to get their HEA something fierce. I loved how the story ended and to say I am a little shocked is an understatement. I can't wait to see what arises from the epilogue, but in the meantime, I am going to start at the beginning of this series and fall for each one of these sexy men.
Ryan Hyatt and Charlie Winters are separated as teenage lovers when he joined the military and decided to push her away. Several years later, Charlie gets the opportunity to move on from her dead-end job, in Cedar grove to work as a bookkeeper for her brother in New York. Things are looking up until her brother runs afoul of criminals when he witnesses a murder. Now she must trust the man who broke her heart with her brother's life.
This is a new to me author and enjoyed reading this book but in my opinion, the characters felt a bit one dimensional. I did not get a "feel" on who the character's were and what motivated them to do what they did. I also felt like I was being told a story versus it actually happening. This is probably due to the book being written in past tense instead of present tense (which I must admit that I prefer).. This aside, the book was interesting and easy to read. I just wanted to know so much more background on the main characters..
The fact that I am not a fan of books written in past tense could have tempered my review. With this, I will definetly take a second look at this author's overall writing style before making any further judgements or recommendations.

This is the first book that I have read by A.L. Long (so, of course, it is also the first that I have read in the Jagged Edge series). First word that comes to mind....PHENOMENAL!! Charlie leaves her small town in West Virginia to move to New York with her brother Nick. Not only will she be living with him, but he's given her the opportunity to work a desk job at his landscaping company as well. When Nick is attacked after witnessing a murder, Charlie turns to the the one person she knows can help...her first love who also broke her heart...Ryan. Ryan, utilizing his past military experience, enjoys his work running Jagged Edge Security. While dealing with chaos from his brother, Ryan and his close-knit crew are called upon to assist Charlie in keeping her brother safe. Will Charlie and Ryan be able to overcome their past? And will they be able to keep those that they love most safe? The characters were very likeable and the storyline flowed together seemlessly. The more I read, the more I wanted to find out what would happen next. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Ryan, and I cannot wait to read more of the Jagged Edge series!! #Ryan #Netgalley *I was provided a free copy of this book for an honest review*
I loved the idea of past loves unexpectedly finding each other years later and getting a second chance. The fact that they didn't really discuss what had happened back then and since then and just feel into each others arms as if years hadn't passed and they didn't have any questions was just odd. The sleuthing and suspense were okay but I had a number of unanswered questions at the end. The sexy scenes were fairly boring and pretty repetitive and the comment about her own brothers butt was not really appropriate. I've purchased/collected and read all of this series now and unfortunately for me the security business/suspense part of the books is haphazard and not all that serious. The guys come off as amateurs and not professionals. They claim to be closer than brothers and respect each other and yet in each of their stories they kept important information from each other making them dangerous. The books are highly sexed and this seems to take center stage so much so that the main characters don't have that much of a dialogue as the moment they are alone together they fall into bed leaving the characters underdeveloped and not that easy to connect with.
Ryan is book 8 in the Jagged Edge series. I had only read Cop until now but Ryan has cemented the fact that I absolutely have to go back and read each book I've missed! Ryan and Charlie were high school sweethearts until he left for the military without a word. Years later she lives in small town USA working a dead end job with no prospects for anything better until her brother offers to move her to NY to work for his landscaping business. Thrilled at the possibility of both being with her brother and job security she jumps on it. Soon after she arrives her brother witnesses a murder and he was seen. Now he's in danger and there's only one person Charlie trusts to keep him safe. Ryan. Shocked that she would come to him but determined to both keep her brother safe and show her he never stopped loving her.
This book has action, betrayal, love, lust and one quick paced story line that will keep you glued to the pages. I loved Ryan and am planning to read this series from the beginning asap.
Ryan and Charlies were teenagers in love when Ryan enlisted. He didn't want her to wait for him so he broke it off. Years later they meet when Charlie fears for her brother's life and asks Ryan to help her.
Even though the premise of this book was really promising, honestly I had a really hard time with it. I just found it really cheesy. After seeing her for about 2 minutes, Ryan was already calling her "baby" ... really! I also found it hard to believe that she was living in poverty for 5 years while her brother was living in luxury ... you would think he would ask her join him a lot earlier. Sorry, but this book was just not for me.
I received a copy from author through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is the first book for me to read in this series, or by this author. It was recommended to me, based on previous books purchased.
I was hoping to like it, then read the entire series, but by 2/3 way through the book, the typos were too much for me to take and I stopped reading. In this age of e-books, it is rare to read a book without a typo of some sort, no big deal, but when the errors are repetitive, then in the middle of what should be a "hot" scene, breaking the mood as it's being read, it's just too much. EXAMPLE- "...in the pit of my stomach as I boldly took his hard DISC into..."
Lack of spending time or money on editing, for me is disrespectful to the reader. If the writer doesn't have more respect for their work, I can't either.
I voluntarily agreed to write an honest review in exchange for an ARC. I really enjoyed reading about the second chance between Ryan and Charlie. While the story did revolve basically around their romance, it was connected to the Jagged Edge series. I gave it 4 stars since it seemed more of a second chance romance than part of a series. I liked the way the characters were written and the no nonsense way that both characters took the approach to their second chance, but it seemed that every scene included the two of them and in most there was lots of PDA (not that I mind that, but it seems a bit much for a security company).
As romantic suspense is my favorite genre, for me I just didn't feel much in the way of a romantic connection between Ryan and Charlie. The story lacked depth and missed the mark in being a page turner with too many parts that were slow and just not enough cohesiveness for me. Overall, it was a fairly decent read for a crime thriller, but with a bit of work on the missing connections, it could be really good read as a romantic suspense. I would like to thank Reading Deals for gifting me "Ryan". My opinion is my own. This is mine. 3 stars!
Charlie's life changes when she moves from her small town to New York to work for her brother. And his life changes when he witnesses a murder. Charlie knew she had to protect her brother so she called on her first love to protect her brother. It was a good second chance romance but I felt like the characters needed more development. Also their chemistry was off the charts but it seemed that she warmed up to him awfully quick after her broken heart. I read a reader copy and voluntarily chose to write a review. This is part of a series but works as a standalone.
This was just ok for me. It took me longer to read than I expected. I read one of the prior books in the series, but this story stood on its own. It just seemed a bit lacking in angst, IMHO. Ryan and Charlie getting together was almost too easy. There was no deep diving into the past and the hurt that they experienced at the hands of each other.
ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this story of second chances. Charlie never thought she'd see Ryan again after they lost touch, but fate has a strange way of intervening. I felt Nick's pain, as well as Josh's, throughout the story. There were some great twists in this romantic suspense, and I loved how Ryan and Charlie reunited. Another great read in the Jagged Edge series!
This was such a good book! So action packed that it continued up to the very end. Ryan and Charlie are seriously so cute together. The guys do what they do best and protect their own. I enjoyed both characters and the rest of them as well. I seriously need to go back and read all the others I haven't yet, just to know their stories.
Wow a.l long done it again! I absolutely fell In Love with both Ryan and Charlie story as they are both so well written and strong characters l! The way the story flows just pulls you in I could not put this book down and would highly recommend it to all my friends!
I really enjoy this series of the boys from Jagged edge . Ryan meets his first love again but they both have problems with their brothers and the trouble they have got in to. I love all the twists in these books and the epilogue is brilliant
The guys in this series just keep getting hotter and hotter!! This is book 8, but can easily be read as a standalone, but why would you want to miss out on 7 hot alpha men?!! With danger, drama and plot twists aplenty, not to mention a hot alpha, what more could you want?
A.L.Long gives us Ryan book 8 in the Jagged Edge Series and does not disappoint! You'll love Ryan and Charlie's second chance in this fantastic story filled with angst, sorrow, heat and a twist at the end that'll drop your jaw!
This was the first book that I have read in the Jagged Edge series. While connected, I was able to easily keep up. This was an enjoyable second chance romance story and I will most likely go back and read the others.
I enjoyed this book. Ryan and Charlie are an adorable couple. The mystery of who the bad guy is and how to take him out are handled well. I'm definitely looking forward to more from A.L. Long.
This books is full of twists and turns I did not see coming. I enjoyed Ryan and Charlie's rekindled romance, ad well as tbe suspense of solving the mystery. OMG Josh!
Ryan is the final book in the Jagged Edge Series. I loved learning about Ryan and Charlie. I have really enjoyed this whole series. A.L. Long has done amazing with all of these sexy guys!!
