So disappointed in this book. Nothing about it feels radical. It feels like an intro into bad “self-help”. The author used weight loss as an example of “health and self care” as goal setting and rituals so it’s a hard pass for me. “It’s admirable to set a goal of losing 50 pounds”, “calm the self-critic that tells you you’re too fat or too thin” .
Using weight loss as go-to examples of goal setting and health feels outdated at best, harmful at worst.
2 stars because I appreciate the organization of the book...but the content is a no for me.
It's a solid starting place for some very basic beginner spells that you can add to. It does an okay job of introducing you to the idea of taking care of your body and mind to get you into the mindset where successful ritual and spell work is possible. However it is all at a basic, completely superficial level. Don't get this book expecting anything "radical". It's more like sticking your toe into what COULD become a radical self-care mindset.
Another thing that I think counts against this book is that it is VERY "Love-and-Light" heavy. It puts too much emphasis on positive affirmations being able to overcome everything in your life. Something that might help neurotypical witches -- but anyone outside that might roll their eyes at some points (I know I did.) Also seems to be pretty Wiccan influenced which again is a negative for me.
The author does make some valid points about self-care but only beginners would get some use out of this book. It contains nothing that isn't covered more in depth in other books but I do like that they made sure to mention that YOU are the best tool you have and everything else is just extra. That you don't need all the fancy tools and crystals, etc. The spells within are very easy and accessible for most.
I got this book 2 years ago, when my word for the year was "Heal." I read the first couple pages and then walked away from it until this week. I don't know what it was, but something activated it in my memory and I sat down and read the whole thing. This is an instructional manual as much as it is a self-help book, with really cool spells, activities, and ideas to help improve the space that you occupy and make it as comfortable as possible. It's also deeply accessible for somebody to read if you are brand new to practicing witchcraft. I highly recommend it as a book that you can refer to and come back to time and time again when you need a rejuvenation in spell work or some ideas for refreshing your space.
I loved this book! Just enough detail to be meaningful about different areas in which we can work on healing ourselves and our communities, and yet still short enough to not feel like a dreary tome of exhaustive information.
I would recommend this to those looking for simple spells, means, and methods for healing themselves in a spiritual way!
This little book is a great introduction to witchcraft and how you can use it to make a healthier lifestyle and healthier you. While I don’t necessarily believe that the spells inside this book are actually magic, I do think they are a great way to align your mind and life with what you want and to empower yourself to see those things through.
Will only go back to this book for a few worthy pages… a third should have been cut out when editing - is either repetition, useless introductions and conclusions after a chapter of a few pages. Another third is basic self-help vague paragraphs or quotes that you’ve read 100 times already. Last third is the actual spells which are the only actual info you will learn and hopefully a few will stand out to you. Not bad but not very informative
This is a mix of self-help and techniques that can be useful to improve your life. I am not sure about the "radical" part that is mentioned at the beginning of the book, probably would call it more an act of love to our inner-selves but since 2021 was a rough year and this is my first book of 2022 I do definitely appreciate the fact that somebody has taken the time to remind us how important is to be brave enough to set boundaries and think about ourselves first just because we matter and we deserve to be treated with respect and love too. If we keep in mind hermetica teachings - as whitin, so without- we can get the point of how important for our practice is not just to look for spells that will do the job for a while, but to actually mind our health (mental, emotional and physical) so everything can work just fine. Even when in some chapters information was a little bit general, the author encourages to research more about the topics that we feel interested into, and shares sources that can be useful at the end of the book so we can look for those in that direction by ourselves.
Witchcraft for Healing: Radical Self-Care for Your Mind, Body, and Sprit by Patti Wigington is a comprehensive guide to holistic healing from the point of view of witchcraft and weaves together the two practices. The variety of topics covered include medititation, energy work, spells and rituals. There were also a few recipes/remedies for the herbal witch. Most of the practices covered in the book use tools likely already on hand, such as candles, crystals, herbs and essential oils.
Rating: 3.5/5 Stars
Recommendation: This book’s holistic approach makes it a one-stop book for a baby witch that wants to use their craft for self-care and well-being. I marked a LOT of the practices, rituals and remedies to come back to when needed and all appeared to be practical for baby and experienced witches. I also appreciate that the author put a focus on the reader making sure they understood their own needs and desires (via self relfection) in order to find self-care practices that would beneficial. I definitely will be keeping this book in my print collection.

I started reading it but took almost a full year of a break because life got busy but it’s was a really lovely book that irl reference regularly. It’s definitely written to be easy for beginners to follow but regardless it was easy to read for me, a practitioner of 5+ years. The book had a lot of self care ritual ideas. Some of which were magical on their own and some were geared towards making the mundane into magick which I loved. This is the first self care meets witchcraft book that I’ve truly enjoyed. I’ll definitely be referencing it in the future. There were a lot of green flag points for me as well. Just little disclaimers and reminders that a lot of witchcraft writers and “teachers” won’t provide.
This book was a pretty good read and a quick one too. Some of the suggested practices just weren't applicable to me, my practice, and my life style. Not the best book I've read on self care or on witchcraft, but it does a decent job at combining the two. I would consider reading this author again, especially if the book was not created during covid times - I did not appreciate being reminded of the pandemic during what was supposed to be relaxing reading time for me.
I didn't take many physical notes because a lot of this book went straight to my soul. I could relate to so many of the problems presented in this book and I literally felt relief wash over me as I took in all of the ways to make my life better. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone going through an emotional time. Even if you're not Pagan, some of these suggestions will help you.
This book is so beautiful! The colours and the art work is like a apothecary garden. It felt like I had heard a lot of the details from this book in previous reads however, it’s fantastic for new witches. There lots of spells and rituals to try that very simple and, easy to build upon.
Reading this book literally feels like the author is speaking to you it’s so healing yet personal. Lovely book
I was gifted this book by a friend who felt I needed more radical self-care in my life and they were right. I don't know if all the rituals included are necessarily for me, but there are many to choose from! I agree with some of the other reviews that this is definitely a beginner guide, but everyone has to start somewhere.
The writing style is conversational and a breeze to read through. I appreciated the sources that were drawn from, which are cited in the back.
I thought this book was ok, but it didn't seem at all inclusive for anyone not identifying as female- just a heads up. Personally, I did not think any of this was new information or too much beyond basic self-help. For my craft, it just doesn't fit the bill. But it may be good for some people for sure.
Overall a wonderful self-help book. I picked this up because it was a kindle unlimited book and I was trying to find another book to read without purchasing it. If you're interested in another perspective on self-care rituals, this book is pretty good to look through and get ideas from!
Good guide for starting out a new practice but also for revamping an old practice. Solid in covering a wide range of topics including taking care of the physical body to mental health care to home care to community care. Definitely written for these times.
It’s a really good book, with hands on tips and spells. The thing that I liked the most, is the fact that the author talks about self care and how radical that is. It’s super easy and nice to read!
Part warm, sound life advice, part badass spellbook, this was a wonderful healing guide that came into my life when I needed it most. It will continue to be a valued resource!
This was a great read for a beginner witch. I have been practicing for a few years and I'm still very very new and I loved this book. I would definitely recommend.
