Ginger and her husband Basil are attending the wedding of her former sister-in-law Felicia to Lord Charles Davenport-Witt. When the nuptials are interrupted by a woman objecting to the wedding, the unidentified woman is eventually taken out of the building. Everything is going well at the party after the wedding until Ginger sees some men from her past. Like herself, they worked for the British Government as spies during WWI. She knows they recognize her. She also knows that they could spell trouble. It isn't long until a body turns up at the party. Ginger and Basil need to figure out what is going on.

This mystery started off well with the wedding and subsequent murder. But it seemed to spend too much time on Ginger's past during WWI. I'm still not sure exactly what her job was. I just know it was top secret, and she isn't allowed to talk about it...not even to her husband. The explanation of her job always seems very vague, almost like the author isn't sure what she did either. The mystery was ok, but I guessed the killer very early in the book. My rating: 3.5 Stars.

What a lovely and entertaining afternoon read. Ms. Strauss' new addition to the Ginger Gold mystery series kept my attention from first page to the end.

Ginger may be eight months pregnant but she still has her intuition and savvy intellect to investigate the murder of one of the guests at Felicia and Lord Davenport-Witt's wedding. All of the suspects are from Ginger's secretive past during World War I. It was intriguing to read more of Ginger's diary entries from that time as it helped to illuminate each of the current suspects past. Murder, intrigue, only limited suspects and a plot that moved swiftly between past and present kept me fully engaged in the book until the end.

The author provided me with a copy of this book to review. This did not influence my thoughts and opinions in any way. All opinions expressed are my own.

The 16th instalment of the Ginger Gold series is a treat! For a long time, we've been teased with hints about Ginger's war-time activities and now they come home to roost in this fast paced, intriguing murder mystery.
The fact that it occurs around Felicia's wedding is just icing on the cake.
Suspects abound, including the new brother-in-law, and Strauss keeps you guessing right up until the end. Although, if you read closely, there is a pretty good clue near the beginning as to who-dunnit.
This is a fun and quick read that progresses the series nicely. It would be perfect to read on the beach or in the shade of a tree in the summer heat. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Ginger's sister-in-law Felicia Gold is getting married to Lord Charles Davenport-Witt. Of course Felicia is over the moon excited but Ginger still has some misgivings. After the bride and groom leave the chapel, a shot is heard and one of the wedding guest is dead! Who could have or would have done such a thing?!! The deceased is someone the groom, Charles, knew during the war? Is there a connection? Can Ginger help solve this murder without breaking the oath she made to her government during the war?

I liked learning about Ginger's war activities told through her journal entries. We've been teased for several years about what she did during the war and now we're finally getting little tidbits. It was nice to see Felicia putting her flirtatious ways behind her and getting ready to settle down. It's fun to see Scout growing up and noticing girls. I miss the younger Scout but he has to grow up as time is going by. I had a sneaking suspicion who the guilty party was but discounted it.

These fun 1920s cozy mysteries are always a fun escape. I can't wait to see if Ginger and Basil's baby is a boy or a girl.

Felicia Gold is overjoyed to be marrying Charles Davenport-Witt, Earl of Witt. She couldn't be happier! However, Ginger has a niggling feeling that something might go wrong and requests Basil order some undercover constables to attend the wedding just in case. Basil doesn't understand Ginger's request but he trusts her instincts and she chalks it up to pregnancy hormones. What Basil doesn't know is that Ginger spied three familiar names on the guest list-men she knew in France and who could blow Charles' cover and hers as well. Ginger's worries seem unfounded until an uninvited guest barges in claiming Charles is not who he claims to be and promised to her. Ginger recognizes a threat to Charles' undercover identity but the problem is soon solved and the happy couple toasted. Following the departure of Felicia and Charles, Grandmother and Scout, Ginger and Basil are horrified to hear a gunshot and discover one of the guests has been killed. He was one of the three men Charles knew during the war in France. Could there be a connection? If so, only Ginger can solve this case. Can she do it without breaking her oath to the government?

This is one of the best entries in the series. The author FINALLY got Lord Davenport-Witt's title right woohoo! (Even if she doesn't know that nurse means the same thing as nanny-most American authors make that mistake). The mystery was really good. I've always been more intrigued by Ginger's backstory than her present activities so revisiting her wartime experiences was really fun for me. I figured one of the other guests was the murderer but which one and why eluded me. I did not ever guess the secret Ginger discovered at the end. She's very clever. I missed Boss and young Scout though. There's not enough of them or enough humor. The theme of this one is family. What makes a family family?

Ginger is about 8 months pregnant in the fall of 1926. She's trying hard to hide it because ladies don't go out at that advanced stage. I'm not sure that's true. In America they did but maybe England was more conservative? Or maybe it's Ambrosia's influence. I can see why Ambrosia would have felt that way about her own pregnancy after the shocking revelations of the previous books. Ginger is so kind to her and trying to be more understanding and sympathetic. If it was me, I'd be doing a happy dance and foist her on Felicia and Charles. With the new baby on the way, a growing teenage boy, a dog and two businesses, Ginger has her hands full and doesn't need Ambrosia butting in.

Ginger's wartime experiences are so fascinating. This book contains journal entries we haven't read before. That time of her life was horrifying and exhilarating too. I didn't remember her journal was coded until I read this week's online entry. I kept wondering why she didn't "accidentally" leave her journal where Basil could find it. Then I concluded he would be too honorable to read it. If he "accidentally" read her journal, then she wouldn't be breaking the Official Secrets Act. As always, Basil is so understanding. Some of the story is from his point-of-view again. I'm tired of reading how much he loves her, how beautiful she is etc. I want showing not telling. Basil knows enough about Ginger to guess about her past and he trusts her judgment. He can't be fobbed off by the same excuse she gave Felicia but he apparently believes the pregnancy hormones excuse easily enough. Or he says he does anyway.

Scout is growing up fast and has adapted to the upper class way of life - mostly. I miss the urchin boy he once was. I HATE rags to riches orphan stories post-adoption. Felicia still has some maturing to do but she's grown up a bit even since her engagement. She loves Charles enough to believe his excuse about the uninvited guest but how will she react to his mysterious disappearances? Like Ginger, I'd feel better if he was retired. I can't see Felicia taking too kindly to her husband's frequent solo travels.

Three men from France Ginger knew during the war also know Charles from back then and are invited guests at the wedding: Jean-Claude Beaulieu, Pierre Dubois and Henry Webster. One does not survive. Jean-Claude is the murder victim. He may have been a confirmed bachelor (womanizer) but he didn't deserve to die. There's no way he was going to propose to Olivia Ward, his lady friend. Basil can't tell if Olivia is really distraught over her boyfriend's death or if she's acting. She claims she's an actress on the stage so she could be skilled enough to turn on the tears when needed. I don't get the impression she's intelligent enough for that. She seems kind of ditzy and young.

Henry seems like an affable man but he's a womanizer and perpetually drunk. He's a devoted friend or he feels guilty about something or both. He's made his family up of his brothers in arms. They served together, went through hell together and barely survived. I feel very bad for him even if I don't like him. I kept getting the two Frenchmen confused. We don't know a lot about Jean-Claude in the present. Mr. Dubois was left paralyzed due to war injuries. He alone survived a horrific failed mission but lost the use of his legs. He seems to have developed a hard edge about him- between his wartime experiences and his womanizing, it makes him a bit unlikable. I think he would not want people to pity him for being stuck in a chair but he seems to pity himself. The wheelchairs of his day are uncomfortable and of course England and France are old countries and not handicapped accessible. His chair must be lifted and pushed by his friend Henry. It would be nice if Mr. Dubois could find a wife who would accept his disability and take the rough edges off him. I hated his dialogue written in a horrible stereotypical French accent. UGH.

The best man, Maximillian Hughes, seems nice enough but there's something about him that rubs me the wrong way. He's never grown up and still acts like a college man. The mysterious wedding crasher is another person from France who knew Charles and his friends during the war. She could bring the whole secret crashing down by naming the men she knew by their code names. Ginger didn't know her, fortunately. I feel sorry for this woman who thought she would be taken care of it. It wasn't easy in wartorn France, even if she is out for the main chance. Another character ends up dead and their death is a tragedy. They didn't do anything to deserve to be killed. Their only crime was selfishness and shallowness. I'm sure private citizens had their own trauma to deal with and they were just trying to survive in a mad world.

This story ended on a slight cliffhanger and I'm eager to see what's next for Ginger. I already know who the baby is-I think that was silly of Lee Strauss to release the companion series so soon but it will be interesting to read as the baby will be almost 3 years younger than my grandmother who is still living. Would Ginger's child still be alive today?

So excited for Felicia to finally get married, but of course someone has to die. Lots of red herrings, but I was surprised by the ending. I got very tired of hearing about how Ginger was secret agent and can't tell Basil. We get it, stop telling us all the time. And like 5 fewer references to her pregnancy would have been nice too. We also get that she's pregnant...

Felicia has settled down and her flirtatious ways are now a thing of the past as she is to be married to Lord Davenport-Witt and will become Lady Davenport-Witt. Ginger, Felicia's sister-in-law by her first marriage is thrilled as is the old fashioned grandma, Ambrosia. But Ginger and the Lord have a secret in their past dealing with WWI that must be kept at all costs. Which makes Ginger walk on eggs a bit since a lot of the guests are from their past. With the nuptials finally finished, Lady Felicia can't wait to go on her honeymoon with her husband. BUT as things go, there is a murder of one of the guests just before they want to leave and now of course the murder has to be solved. So now, Ginger and Basil jump into action with Ginger trying to keep her past out of it, but can she? From the very beginning you are deftly taken page after page through a wonderful time and a really good mystery. I love this series and the details of the times creating a movie in the mind as you read. I can't wait to see where this all goes from here! I love this series. I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

Felicia's Wedding

Ginger Gold is attending Felicia's wedding to Lord Davenport-Witt. Ginger is happy for Felicia but she is a bit worried about the groom because she knows a secret from his past. She hopes all will go well, but then someone is murdered at the wedding.

It is finally happening for Felicia to be married after all her flirtations. Now that she is married her honeymoon is on hold until the murder is solved. Ginger and Basil want to solve the murder so Felicia and Charles can go on their honeymoon.

I love these books because they describe the fashions and the settings. The hats, clothing, shoes it all sounds so glamorous. What a great time to be living in. All the guests are stunning and great characters. The wedding dress sounds fabulous. I love the character of Ambrosia she sounds like a real grand lady.

Another great 1920's cozy mystery...each one good in its own story. I love all of them.
Thanks to Lee Strauss for allowing me to read and review a copy of the book.

Weddings. Oh so lovely. Love shining forth from the beautiful Bride and handsome Groom. Everyone and everything lit with the glow of love and hope for a perfect life. Still, underneath the beauty a few people are not quite so caught in in the magic as there is a slight holding of breath that nothing goes wrong. But suddenly everything changes.

A woman makes a scene. Someone dies. The honeymoon is postponed and Lady Felicia Davenport-Witt just wants to get on with it yet her husband and others can’t leave til the killer is apprehended.

Extremely tense frustrating moments make time seem to stand still, rush backward and forward. There are secrets galore. And Ginger Gold Reed is 8 months pregnant and keeps pushing for the sake of her former sister-in-law.

There is a lot activity as the beautiful glow of a wedding disappears.

This is another good cozy mystery by Lee Strauss worth reading.

The last few books have been weaker than usual in terms of whodunit. This one in particular, well, I figured it out almost right away. I really dislike the way Ginger's war service and her signing of the Official Secrets Act keeps rearing its head. She is encountering far too many people who know her secret for it to be plausible that she would continue to keep this info from Basil. But that aside my biggest beef with this story is Did. Not. Make. Sense. Also given that Ginger is shortly to give birth have we heard word one from Basil's parents? They were so hateful about the adoption of Scout and about Ginger not producing an heir but I can't recall any mention in the last few books of them even being aware that Basil is about to become a father.

Another enjoyable, relaxing read about Ginger Gold and co. This time the wedding of Gingers sister in law Felicia to Lord Davenport-Witt is disrupted by a murder of one of the wedding guests. In no time Ginger and her husband Basil are surrounded by suspects including the brides husband.
In this story we learn more about Gingers secret wartime exploits as she sets about trying to discover who among the guests could be a murderer. Lord Davenport-Witt and some of his friends were known to Ginger during her time in France in WW1 but she must keep much of her knowledge of their exploits secret even from her beloved husband Basil.
These stories set in 1920's London are real escapist reads and thoroughly enjoyable.

Murder and a wedding! What a winning combination for a fun and adventurous mystery. The time has come where Ginger Gold’s past and future is colliding. As Miss Felicia Gold is getting married her sister-in-laws world may never be the same. They are all in danger unless Ginger can determine what past events are causing a murder to enact revenge.
Lee Strauss’ books are a dynamic and intriguing read. Her characters are rich in development and engaging with so much historical accuracy it’s impressive. The author must thoroughly research the timeframe and events. I can’t help but keep coming back for every book she writes and anxiously await the next!

If you enjoy a good murder mystery, you can always depend on Lee Strauss to create excitement with a Ginger Gold book. This one is the 16th book in the series. From the start, it seems as though Ginger’s past continues to creep into her daily life, and this book brings more of the intrigue of her wartime involvement into the picture.
Ginger can’t seem to rid herself of suspicions regrading Lord Davenport-Witt who has just married her former sister-in-law. Is she justified in these feelings, or will he prove her wrong? It seems as though each book, though an interesting mystery in its own right, brings us closer to that answer.

3 stars.

This book starts with Felicia's wedding to Charles. At the reception, one of Charles' friends that Ginger knew from the war days was killed. Basil is frustrated at not knowing the backgrounds of these people, especially since he knew Ginger knows more about them but won't tell him. As the investigation continues, they unearthed lots of hidden undercurrents and resentment.

I did think it was weird that Charles would have invited covert operatives from his war days to his wedding. And since he's still in the spy business, to me, it doesn't bode well for his marriage. But I guess in those days, the wife is not expected to know much of a husband's work.

Love it!

How difficult it must be to keep a portion of your life hidden away. That task becomes even more-so as Felicia prepares to marry the love of her life, who’s a part of Ginger’s past. The wedding day will not be totally without monkey wrenches, however. Ginger will pass a few days trying to hide pregnancy in a time when ladies did not show themselves at this stage, reminiscing, and identifying a killer. As usual, this continuation of the series is well-written and edited and an enjoyable read.

Another excellent adventure!

This series is addicting. There is always an interesting crime. But the continuing family interactions are even more important. This time
the focus is on Felicity and her marriage to
Charles who has been— up until now -a minor
character. He & Ginger were in the secret service
together during the war so their relationship &
the aftermath of the war will continue to be
an interesting subplot. Can’t wait fir the next
one which is scheduled for October.

What an amazing series. This book just made it even better. Well written with an intriguing mystery, this series addition was hard to put down. The characters have depth and dialogue stays true to the era the book portrays.

Murder follows Ginger and Basil everywhere, even to Felicias wedding reception. The killer used her new husbands gun so he's amongst the possible suspects. It's now more important than ever that Ginger and Basil put their heads together to solve the crime!

I received an arc of this book and voluntarily provided a review.

Lee Strauss’ books always satisfy my interest in reading.

As always, I enjoyed reading a Ginger Gold Mystery book. The books are getting more into Ginger’s personal life, which I enjoy also. Felicia and Scout are getting older, with Felicia getting married. So, I expect the both of them are going to start to feature more in the coming mysteries. Particularly as Felicia has married a former colleague of Ginger. And this particular colleague doesn’t seem to be entirely trustworthy.

The latest in the Ginger Gold Series is one of the best. What I particularly liked was learning so much more about Ginger’s role in France during WWI.

The mystery revolved around people from that time. It was interesting getting to know them and how they were affected by the war. The ending is definitely surprising.

I was fortunate to receive an Advanced Copy. I look forward to reading the next installment in this series!

Excellent!

This was terrific! Ginger is 8 months pregnant at Felicia’s wedding to the Earl of Witt when, at the reception, a murder occurs. Friends from the Great War, working undercover with Ginger , the Earl, and others, had been invited to the wedding. Ginger and Basil investigate, uncovering hidden events from the war that have festered and finally erupted. Exciting conclusion!

I love Ginger's stories! Strauss writes lovely characters and describes the world of the time perfectly. The book can be read alone but is better read in its place in the series. Ginger is coming close to having her secret life exposed and the murder knows it. Times are slowly changing for Ginger and a new baby is on the way. Life is never dull in the Reed household. This book has a good bit of suspense and action as well as Felicia's wedding.

The 1920s

I enjoy The Ginger Gold books as I can escape to the realms of the 1920s. Of course, I am very much aware of how different life was for the upper classes v lower classes. To escape to the drawing rooms, salons and clubs of that time, to watch how everyone deals with the aftermath of The Great War reminds me how lucky I am to be alive now, even with COVID around us.
Start with the first book and dip your toe in the water.

It is finally wedding day for Felicia and Lord Davenport-Witt. Everyone is excited for the happy day, especially Felicia's Grandmother. Ginger is also happy for her sister in law, but also a little nervous about some of the guests that may be coming. With Ginger's history with Lord Davenport-Witt, and her inability to tell the secrets of the war, the day becomes complicated quickly!

Once again, this is a fun read that left my guessing until the end!

Florid and sloppy

I enjoy the series, but there are many typos, inconsistencies, and silly continuity errors. How hard is it to keep track of whether a character is seated or standing during a single scene? And, while the fashions seem well researched, the dialog often sounds too contemporary... not to mention the terrible French accents that aren't even consistent in their usage.

This installment of the long-running --- and still entertaining series kept me guessing longer than most of the books in the series. That baby still hasn't arrived, dang it --- so I'm off to start the next book in the series next.

More of Ginger's time in France during WWI is presented, and more characters from that time were introduced. It was great to find out more background about Ginger's work then.

When is Ginger going to pop the baby out? just seems the baby has been in her uterus for a long time.

love how Scout and Basil's relationship grew so much that they are playing together and Scout is even groaning when he got issued an order to do something he don't want!

Contrary...

So many times in this book! Ginger I'm talking about. She doesn't trust her Sister-in-Law's new husband because he was a spy in the war, which is exactly what she was! Knowing she keeps her own secrets, she mistrusts him because he does. Even going as far as to suspect him of murder! But could be be guilty? And if he is what will Ginger and Basil do?

I've loved this entire series and can't wait for the next book. I've read the companion series of Rosa and Hailey and next is the Lady Gold Investigation series. I just adore all the characters. I can picture everyone, the clothes, the homes.

Ginger does it again

This is a delightful cozy mystery that starts off with Felicia's wedding. It is a lovely affair that is soon marred by murder. All of the suspects are friends from the War and are known to Ginger. We get more of a view into that time in her life. I did happen to figure out who did it this time, but it's a tricky one.
