The high rating is only because I love Jaekyoung. I liked him more than the MC. He is the ultimate SIMP, 100% down bad for Jiheong in every possible way. Head over heels, utterly obsessed, and completely devoted, he makes it his life’s mission to revolve around Jiheong. He might not have the best social skills, but he’s loyal to the core. This man has tunnel vision for Jiheong and only Jiheong. *Sigh*.
I’m so glad I gave this book a chance because sports and omegaverse are two things I usually steer clear of in BL novels. but this was surprisingly good. The writing is solid. I liked that the story is focused on their romance development, but could’ve easily been a 5-star read if I wasn’t so endlessly frustrated with Jiheong, the mc. There were so many moments where I just couldn’t understand his thought process, he makes everything so unnecessarily complicated. I get that he’s insecure and has personal issues, but sir… maybe try communicating instead of flat out rejecting Jaekyoung over and over. This guy already struggles with social interactions. And the actual reason Jiheong is rejecting him is SO DUMB. If you don’t want to be in a relationship with him, then STOP SLEEPING WITH HIM??? tf
Don’t get me wrong, I love an MC who doesn’t just give in right away and actually makes the ML work for it. A little chase can be fun but Jaekyoung has been pining for him for YEARS. He’s never been with anyone else. He literally shaped his entire career around what he thought Jiheong would like, even willing to give up everything for him. And yet, Jiheong still finds reasons to push him away. Like… bro…?? I would’ve folded, married him, and had 10 kids by now. The drama was so unnecessary. This story could’ve been 90 chapters shorter without all of MC’s BS, but I guess the plot needed the angst.. 🙇♀️💁♀️ If nothing else, at least Jaekyoung’s unwavering devotion made it entertaining but man, did it test my patience.
On another note, I loved how the author introduced the swimming community. She either has a swimming background or did extensive research because the sports aspect was incredibly detailed and well-executed. A solid read overall, if you have the patience for a lot of push-and-pull relationship nonsense.
7 volumes and my first Korean BL novel: 끝! (***Edit: And now I'm rereading it 10/2025 🙈 👉🏼👈🏼)
I have no words to describe how fluffy this story was! Jaekyoung is seriously the ideal husband. The amount of love and communication these two had... Was incredible. I cried. They had their struggles and they had their weaknesses, but accepted each other. Jiheon drove me nuts sometimes, but he just fit like a puzzle to Jaekyoung because Jaekyoung was even more stubborn, bulldozing into Jiheon's heart in such a loving and reassuring way. His bluntness is exactly what Jiheon needed in his lonely world.
This man literally played 4D chess with Jiheon, it left me speechless with my jaw dropped open! 🤣
"Even so, there would still be regrets. It was inevitable to feel a sense of longing with so much left behind. That's why every remaining day felt all the more precious. As Jaekyoung had said, no matter when or where unexpected farewells might come, Jiheon needed to embrace happiness in every moment, so those farewells wouldn't be too painful. Recalling the words of his beloved, Jiheon finally surrendered himself completely to the warmth behind him. He embraced the sunlight in his arms even more tightly. In this moment, to be wholeheartedly happy."
Plus, can we talk about babies!!!! Omg Jin is the cutest baby boy!! 😭 I love omegaverses hehe! Plus, the spicy scenes have 100% consent!
"I may not be able to take away your morning sickness away, but I can always tie your shoelaces!" 😭
JH: "I don't know, but right now, my belly feels the heaviest." JK: "That's because it's holding our biggest medal."
Damn... I just made myself giddy reading these quotes I forgot about! 😭

ִִֶֶָ𓂃 ࣪˖ ִֶָ I haven't started the Side Stories yet, and only finished the (5) main volumes. This semester is really taking a toll on my mind and reading a long book isn't doing it for me right now. Nevertheless, Dash is a really great experience. I will continue the SS when I finally have the time. This section will be edited when the time comes. ˙ᵕ˙
[Volume 1: Chapters 1-41] » April 13-16
I think it took me quite a while to finish the first volume because I was so busy I couldn't get a hang of the book. But once Jaekyoung started being in the picture, I was totally enamored. Him and Jiheon's past is so interesting and also quite at the same time. Swimming was the only thing that connected them which was also abruptly cut off by Jiheon himself. I couldn't even try to imagine what Jaekyoung felt the moment he heard that Jiheon is working in a sports company that wants to sign him. He must've felt the tides of his world flowing once again.
Anyway, I'm like an amateur swimmer kicking my feet in the air because of Jaekyoung! He's so inlove, it's painfully obvious but Jiheon! Jiheon is so oblivious, or is trying to avoid the idea at all based on the conversation on Chapter 41. My god, I haven't felt that genuine trepidation because of something that you want to get revealed! Sunghyun really perfectly did his job to agitate Jiheon, haha! Damn, I really can't move on from the fact that everyone Jaekyoung sees is more or less Jiheon's copy. Do you realize how much yearning he is doing?! I can't wait to see how their relationship progresses!
[Volume 2: Chapters 42-74] » April 16-17
“It was just like swimming. Just as he threw his entire body into the water and swam without knowing all the techniques, this fearless guy seemed to want to do the same with love.”
I absolutely loved this volume! Jaekyoung’s unwavering love contrasts with Jiheon’s emotional instability and guilt?! Absolute cinema. Jaekyoung isn’t just a romantic lead—he’s a symbol of devotion, waiting and choosing love despite the pain. Jiheon, on the other hand, struggles with his brokenness, trying to protect Jaekyoung from his own fears. He avoids intimacy, masking his guilt as responsibility, believing he's unworthy of someone so steady. He doesn’t trust his emotional stability and fears tainting Jaekyoung. But this also shows that Jiheon underestimates Jaekyoung’s strength. Despite his own emotional volatility, I believe Jiheon’s "feelings" for Jaekyoung is intense, compelling, and real. Jaekyoung, though vulnerable, remains tender and patient, pushing for closeness without force.
Jaekyoung’s admiration for Jiheon has always been intertwined with his drive for athletic excellence, with the Grand Slam being more about gaining Jiheon’s approval than fame. Yet, even as he achieves success, his loneliness grows, and he longs for a deeper connection with Jiheon. It really broke me on the flashback where the pool also became so lonely to Jaekyoung when Jiheon quit.
“There’s only a hundred meters left. The last 100 meters is basically a dash.”
But really glad for Jaekyoung that they met again! This metaphor encapsulates Jaekyoung’s emotional journey. He’s closing the gap with Jiheon, and the "dash" is not just a physical effort but a final emotional sprint—tender, determined, and filled with love. They have this vague physical relationship now but I am itching to see how their relationship is going to jump to the real thing! I'm so pumped! Jaekyoung is so cute, huhuhu! But I cannot invalidate Jiheon's worries because I get him so much. I can now just wait to see how they will progress.
[Volume 3: Chapters 75-113] » April 18-20
FINALLY! They are finally dating! I was starting to get pissed off because they're obviously in love with each other but I keep thinking that I get Jiheon, because I'm also like that so does that mean I am pissed off at myself? Hahahaha!
Anyway, I really loved the 1200 meter metaphor in this book, and now they finally successfully got past the last 100 meter dash. The metaphor really becomes a way of showing how love works. Jaekyoung once said, “If you start late, you’re disqualified, and if you don’t start at all, you’re disqualified.” He's right because that’s what love feels like sometimes—you either go for it or you miss your chance. I'm so cheesy! Gosh.
But Jaekyoung is really like his metaphor because he's someone who runs headfirst into his love. He’s brave, open, always giving without expecting anything back. Meanwhile, Jiheon is stuck. He’s scared to even take the first step. Not because he doesn’t care—but because he cares too much. And he doesn’t think he deserves love, especially after losing the one thing that used to define him: swimming. It really broke me when Jiheon finally opened up about his feelings to Jaekyoung especially about his honest thoughts and inner turmoil when he quit and the things he endured after that. I get him so much.
After he quits, Jiheon tries so hard to look like he’s okay. He overachieves, keeps up appearances, laughs at the right times—just so people won’t notice he feels lost. He needs to prove that he’s still someone worth loving, even if he’s not that perfect athlete anymore. But deep down, he just wants someone to stay. To see him without the medals, without the fake smiles—and still choose him. And that’s what makes Jaekyoung so special. He never gives up on Jiheon. He waits. He even peels pistachios for him that he likes himself or buys him popcorns... They're small gestures but it's so cute and will make you really think how much he loves Jiheon. He listens, even when Jiheon doesn’t say much. And Jiheon also loves him honestly in his own way, even if it means sacrificing his wellbeing and saying white lies every now and then.
But Jiheon also internally saying, “So don’t get tired of me too quickly,” shows that everything comes full circle. He’s not asking to be admired—he’s asking to be loved, just as he is. It's so frustrating because despite finally letting himself go—finally being honest and loving Jaekyoung openly, and officially accepting Jaekyoung's love—he still has secrets. I really get his character that's why he's so frustrating all the more! It's so difficult to love and be loved. I can see them having a big fight because of these. But love is also worth it, so I know they'll figure this out. Gosh, I'm really getting cheesy because of this damn book!
[Volume 4: Chapters 114-149] » April 22-24
Hmmm. This volume is frustrating.
Volume 4 deepens the complexity of relationship between Jiheon and Jaekyoung. Jiheon’s internal struggles, torn between wanting to protect Jaekyoung and his own insecurities, contrast with Jaekyoung’s unwavering confidence, which is deeply tied to his bond with Jiheon. Their emotional distance, despite caring for each other, is clear, especially when Jiheon’s vulnerability shines through during his breakdown about fear of losing Jaekyoung. Jaekyoung’s support and understanding help Jiheon open up, revealing his doubts and fears.
But that's only a one time thing because the next moment, Jiheon is once again lying through his teeth. I really get where he's coming from, but. There's a big fat but. You know, Jiheon’s decision to hide the pregnancy reflects his fear of burdening Jaekyoung and his struggle with vulnerability. He’s used to suppressing his emotions and fears that revealing this would complicate things further. But this secrecy unconsciously creates emotional distance and shows Jiheon’s need for growth in trust and communication. By not sharing this, he prevents Jaekyoung from fully being part of his life, highlighting the tension in their relationship and Jiheon’s journey to accept vulnerability and open up fully. I can't even start to imagine what Jaekyoung would feel when he finds out Jiheon has planned to keep their child a secret for 12 weeks.
And anyway, they're now semi-public because of Jaekyoung’s "honesty" in that show, haha! Best of luck to everyone. Special mention to Luke and Jisoo, they're such wonderful characters.
[Volume 5: Chapters 150-189] » April 25-27
Final main volume, and all I can say is: THEY ARE SO SOULMATES! God I love this couple so much!
I don't want to be overly critical anymore because it's the last volume for the main part but I want to say that I was really feeling bored whenever the "antagonists" are breathing on some pages, I really just wanted to focus and savor Jiheon and Jaekyoung. But then, the last 4-5 chapters really jumped a lot of time without the details I'd love to hear—about the Olympics, Jiheon’s pregnancy journey, the cases, etc.—so I was a bit flabbergasted but I was also like, okay! Maybe the details will be on the side stories... I hope!
Anyway, going back, I believe I melted a lot more in this volume. The frustration I felt on Volume 4 was replaced by so much happiness because of the progress and genuineness of Jiheon and Jaekyoung! I also shed some tears when Jiheon finally told Jaekyoung that he's pregnant. It felt like they are sharing their happiness to me. There were also a lot of moments where I am thankful that Jaekyoung is him, and Jiheon is himself. This story wouldn't happen if not for them (and of course, author-nim). Jaekyoung is such a wonderful male lead, solely because I love leads that are absolutely and irrevocably in love and down bad to their one and only love! It's also a bonus that he's younger than Jiheon! I just love everything about them.
What I also love the most about this volume is that we can already see glimpses of how great Jiheon and Jaekyoung would be as parents. Especially Jaekyoung, he really is maturing, and keeps on getting more and more adorable. And with Jiheon, with his wonderful personality, I have no doubts he'll be much more amazing when Genie comes out.
There was also a lot of funny moments here and I am so in for every bit of it. One of my favorites here is when Jiheon introduced Jaekyoung to his family and the interactions are just priceless! I'm literally in tears just thinking about them. By the way, chapter 182 is by far one of the most satisfying chapter here. I literally giggled. This is a very satisfying read. I can't wait for the side stories!
“All the time, always. This moment was the most thrilling. Both in the water and out of the water. It was the most ecstatic and overwhelming moment.”
𓂃 ࣪˖ ִֶָ To be read soon: [SS Volume 1: Chapters 1-44] [SS Volume 2: Chapters 45-79]
the main story? perfect. the side stories? absolutely melted my heart. (this cured my reading slump)
this is one of those sports stories where the sport is thoroughly tackled and not half-assed shit just to move the plot and characters. not me learning about the sports swimming here, like i learn the inner workings of volleyball by reading haikyuu LMAO. i now also get the hype around younger seme and older uke because i get to see whining tops unlike the mainstream bl where their demeanors are often stoic and masculine. in addition, the relationship dynamics of jiheon and jaekyoung are such a slow burn type. we know that there are subtle manipulations happening in their relationship, but as a fujoshi who often reads with her brain off, NAH, IT'S FINE. it's actually not that worse compared to other bls that should have been under the psychological tags because of severe manipulation. anyways, unlike other push-pull dynamic relationships, theirs are not annoying and aggravating because the plot does not only revolve around the romance but also the sport itself; it's pretty entertaining and gripping enough to make me read it until the end. i would also like to add that the modern omegaverse in here is actually really well thought. it's not much but we get to see the glimpse of how, in the modern day world, the people with traits deal with their pheromones (chips, suppresants) and how the rut and heat of the alpha and omega is deemed to be not the norm but rather a chosen act between lovers.
i really like the main story, BUT THE SIDE STORIES MADE ME LOVE THIS BOOK MORE. god this gave me such baby fever because jin and seon are so freaking cute PLS (i would do anything for these lil babies). their parenting arc is also really nice to read.
Like some of the more recent reviews on Novel Updates, I feel like I have been doped by what everyone else is saying. Everyone here sucks. The ML coerces the MC into a sexual relationship and continually acts like a whiny child all the time and apparently looking at reviews, this doesn't get better?? Why do people find that love obsessed type attractive, he sounds just incredibly exhausting. Each new chapter I was just throwing up my hands with every new thing he did. Also, while the MC is too wishy washy about expressing his state of being, he is still the only real adult in the room and at least he is aware of how he communicates and acts. Like no one here is right for each other, but I don't think we should shame people when they are literally acting under coercion. Ugh. Anyways, hope my review helps shed light for others because man this wasn't what I thought particularly when I went looking to see if people were complaining about the ML and only found people disliking the MC.
[started reading: 09/29/2024 = wrote a review: 10/23/2024] [03/30/2025 new version of this review : just finished reading the main story]
I finished the main story and currently on my way to start the side stories. I was intrigued by the sports genre set in an omegaverse and started with the manhwa to easily visualize the characters in my mind. Both the novel and manhwa are faithful to each other, but the novel gives more insight into the world of omegaverse and swimming, which I found fascinating. However, there are still points I want to highlight regarding the novel itself, as it serves as the source material for the manhwa, and I am very invested in it.
I find it amusing how the author highlights and blends the sports world with the omegaverse in a way that feels fresh and unique, especially with the detailed exploration of the pressures the characters face as athletes and within their secondary gender dynamics. I became even more fascinated with the story because of the political elements concerning the secondary gender and sports itself, which is rarely explored in other omegaverse stories.
The writer expanded my understanding of swimming. I don’t know much about sports, especially swimming, but as I read the author’s detailed descriptions of the realities and events in swimming, I gained a unique perspective on what sports truly entail. It’s not just a competition among athletes.
In terms of romance, the author did not allow sports to overshadow the entire story. The romance blends well with the sports plot, with a slow-burn relationship that was rewarding. It was initially challenging to fully grasp the main characters’ personalities in the first volume, but by the time I finished the main story, I had a clearer understanding of who they are.
This is the first novel from IJEN-nim that I've read. I wasn't familiar with their way of writing yet, but the writing and plot is good. It's just that sometimes, there are some scenes that were somehow written a bit vague and hard to picture in my mind, particularly the swimming events or the swimming scenes, but I understand since it's not that easy to write some sports scenarios because of the amount of details you have to describe every time (it’s like writing action scenes).
The author’s writing style is straightforward, making it easy for readers to follow. I’m very particular about word choice and creativity, and while the simplicity is commendable, it would benefit from more variety in vocabulary and description to avoid feeling monotonous. Straightforward storytelling is great, but adding creativity helps keep readers engaged.
I don’t mind a straightforward kind of storytelling (I actually prefer it, too much of a drag is boring and uninteresting), but I think readers can get more of the vibe and atmosphere of what was being described in the story if it the author might use more detailed descriptions of the ambience, surroundings, mood, and physical attributes or appearances of the characters (not just the main characters but also the supporting characters and it would be much better to give them a remarkable trait too) to stimulate the reader’s imagination while reading. But I still admire IJEN-nim for the way the story and writing has improved in the next volumes of the novel (yes it did improve, there’s a lot of differences in terms of their writing pattern and pacing on volume 2 - 5).
To be honest, I find it hard to imagine Jiheon and Jaekyoung’s features but somehow I was able to get by, thanks to the manhwa adaptation. I read the novel while I also get updated to the manhwa every update. Nevertheless, Jiheon and Jaekyoung were memorable to me. Their characteristics and personality are a perfect match, even though their relationship was a push-and-pull at first (bec there’s a lot more to know about them while enduring the slow burn for how many volumes LOL), it was still a fun and warm read. Although the ending part of the main story feels incomplete, it was a nice cliffhanger and ending to let your readers get excited to continue the novel up to the side stories, making them crave for what is there to come on Jiheon and Jaekyoung’s life as they progress towards their life as a couple and as parents. You might find Jiheon and Jaekyoung stubborn at some point, but they’ll have a huge growth and character development in Vol4 and Vol5. Patience is the key, you really have to read them all to get to that part. I can’t wait to read the side stories too, I’m looking forward to the Kwon-Jeong family.
Despite the said setbacks I have pointed out during my whole read of the novel, it still surpassed my expectations and I don’t have any ounce of regret for picking this novel up. The very detailed information about swimming and how the sports industry works were those things I had never expected. I was totally surprised I was flooded by too much information about swimming terms I never knew, and the politics of the sports industry. I found it overwhelming, but I get to learn new things and that’s the best part. I was never interested in swimming at all but now I started watching swimming competitions because of my curiosity (and to test the accuracy of the informative terms) but anyway this is fiction, whatever information was already written is enough for me, no need to be so picky about it this isn’t encyclopedia sh*t, this is a novel for goodness sake haha.
IJEN-nim’s original omegaverse exposition and concept on ABO health too was also new to me. The pheromone chips, the discriminatory laws, and the reality of discrimination towards secondary traits in the sports industry were also emphasized in the story.
Overall, this novel is interesting with so much packed information about swimming, sports industry, and it has a perfect balance of omegaverse, sports, and romance. Don’t forget the slow burn romance, you will enjoy it. You just have to be patient with Jiheon and Jaekyoung. Don’t give up on them.
Extra chapters are still being uploaded but I could not have loved the main story more. I didn’t sleep for multiple nights at a time just to read this novel.
Okay, okay!!! This novel was written so well what the heck! It really drew you in and just made you apart of the story. These 4 stars are mainly for the writing and just how well the author executed the main couple's love story. I was eager to read about them and wanted them to be together so badly. I genuinely was ready to pull my hair out when the main character, Jiheon, kept rejecting his love interest, Jaekyoung. Like what do you mean keep it casual and not label it, Jiheon just say you love Jaekyoung, we know already!!!!!! I think I screamed that almost ALL the time. I will say the swimming logistics and scenes were a lot and I thought they'd be boring to read, but the author truly made you invested in it. You wanted to feel the water just as much as the characters and wanted Jaekyoung to be the best of the best no matter what. It was so fun to read. I especially enjoyed Jaekyoung and his straightforwardness. He strived for something and always made it his, I honestly felt jealous. And, I think I slightly hated Jiheon throughout because he kept resembling my own insecurities. I get wanting to settle and just giving in by being kind rather than causing a scene. But, I also really wanted Jiheon to just punch someone so badly, especially that one swimmer who accused him for the pheromone shock or whatever. Also, GOSH, the side stories were the winners for me. I loved the family dynamics and the cuteness we got from our two main characters and their kids. I enjoyed them more since we got Jiheon and Jaekyoung actually being a couple and a married couple at that. They weren't hiding it and it drove them to new heights. I liked how they worked hard independently and once home, they never once left each others sides. I really enjoyed this novel way more that I thought I would. It was the sports boyslove omegaverse novel I had always wanted and didn't get from the anime "Free" HAHA!
Hands down one of the best (if not the best) Swimming-sport themed BL story I've read. Definitely going high on the list of favourite omegaverse (which isn't long unfortunately).
I love swimming and many other sports, so I was glad to see a thorough representation of sports culture, olympics, and the toxicity that stems from competition.
Everything that has been wrong with the omegaverse I've read has been done so, so right here. Very creative too, with its technologically advanced aspect of effectively hiding traits through chips.
I won't say the characters are 100% likable from the beginning to the end, and it's a good thing because it made them real, raw, tangible. Each of their actions reflected their personality and growth. Jiheon with his principles and perfectionist tendencies, Jaekyung with his anti-social, awkward, and straight forward personality. And finding a balance in between for each other. So beautiful. Such lovable idiots.
And don't even get me started on the slowburn and the feelings I felt when they finally got together. Mpreg element was well fleshed out and given proper thought to instead of just being it for the sake of it. Genie-talk had me crooning!
Overall, this was a memorable read that made me frustrated, smile, scoff, angry, cackle, and swoon. Truly an experience.
Lastly, I'm taking one star off because I did skimmed through some media-agency-dirty-politics drama. Jiheon and Jaekyung gets a 5/5 though ! 🌟
I'm not sure how accurate the info is, but I learned a lot about sports marketing and competitions. It makes me want to pay more attention to the Olympics the next time around. I was right about the descriptions of swimming making me want to swim. Perhaps I'll seriously consider it when I get back? It is good cardio.
The ML is too cute. At first I was annoyed by the pregnancy, but I came around easily enough because they're such good fathers and their kids are just too adorable.
I was pleasantly surprised by the potential for conflict in this novel (mainly company/competition politics). Also the ABO universe felt extremely well thought out compared to most.
I was very invested from start to finish. I particularly enjoyed seeing the ML's perspective in the second novel, though I wish they addressed his brother's bullying more.
The ML is so blunt it's hilarious sometimes. I look forward to the rest of the manhwa adaptation (assuming it's continued).
Okay, when I started reading this novel, I didn't expect to find a gem among gems. Dash goes straight to the favorites shelf.
The story? The characters? The interpersonal relationships? The romance? The sport? The omegaverse universe? EVERYTHING was perfectly constructed and explained. You can feel the love and dedication the author put into this novel on every page.
Jaekyung becomes one of my favorite alphas. This man was already worshipping the ground Jiheon walked on from the very first moment his eyes saw him. We love a man who knows what he's looking for and wants it.
Jiheon also steals my heart without a doubt, a man who's learning to love and accepts it! Wow.
I loved this one so much. Though the translation wasn't perfect imo, the storyline and characters more than made up for it. I'm so glad I decided to ignore the reviews that said the MC was a red flag, manipulative, etc. I thought his feelings were really valid, and he eventually comes to the right place when it comes to the ML. And the ML isn't a green flag either, he definitely starts off rocky. But once they get there, it's definitely worth it. They communicate really well (eventually). There are definitely some slow parts, especially in the beginning, and this is a long novel. But I really enjoyed the process of watching them get Jiheon and Jaekyoung get together, grow together, and just be together. They're really perfect for each other.
finished main story and majority of the side chapters, the rest are not translated or released yet.
the omega-verse elements at first shocked me because i had no clue it was an omega-verse based novel. not sure if i just missed the tag or it never had one where i first found this novel.
more specifically i would rate this a 3.5 out of 5, just because yeah it's good but not to the level where people would create animation memes with the characters. theres a manhwa what was adapted, thus i will be checking that out soon!
edit1: ok i lied i actually found the rest of the side story chapters and will wholeheartedly rate this 4 stars out of 5 because the translation impacted my experience before and jaekyoung is hilarious.
Jaekyoung our ultimate simppp. He simply could do no wrong albeit some questionable actions but he was simply driven by his 10 years of pining so it’s ok. While I of course loved Jiheon, he definitely frustrated me at times but when he finally realised his feelings it was perfect. Also can’t forget their adorable child Jin, he was literally a copy of Jaekyoung with Jiheon’s personality it was so cute.
