When the past finally catches up with intelligence agent Alex King, it shatters his world. His enemy has struck at the life he was building, the world he was preparing for when a mission would one day become his last. In doing so, they have not only exploited the man’s one weakness, but have unwittingly released a wrath that will not be satisfied until one of them is the last man standing.

Alex King Has Been Getting A Fabulous Life Going, Until The Past Strikes Again
I have enjoyed every book I have read in this series and this one is right up with the best! Alex King has been to the bottom before, and as life turns wonderful at this time, of course some from the past find them and want revenge. His teammate and girlfriend, Caroline, ends up in the line of fire, unleashing an Alex we have not seen in awhile...He is angry, and off all protocols...He Will Be The LAST Man Standing....
This is the 11th in the Alex King series. I remember reading the first and congratulating myself on finding an author I was sure I would enjoy should he write another. I have been spoilt as A P Bateman is prolific in his output and every book is fresh and as good as the last. Very often a successful series becomes a cash cow but not in this case. Each book in the series is worth reading as a stand-alone although the reader will get much more from reading each one in the correct order.
The old team is back along with the villains and the plot goes a long way to tying up loose ends and answering questions asked in some of the previous thrillers. Alex King features strongly in this new addition to the series and his character is further developed as is his relationship with Caroline.
Caroline and Alex have settled down to a quiet life in Cornwall but it’s not to be. Alex’s past starts to catch up with him not only in the shape of Cole, his nemesis, but also various criminal groups he has upset in the past who want their revenge.
The plot is tight and taut and builds steadily to a tremendous crescendo. It’s a book, once picked up, which is very difficult to put down. The story rattles along at a tremendous rate and hardly leaves the reader time to breathe. Although there are a significant number of characters they do not become confused in the mind of the reader as each is well described and developed.
All in all, it’s a thriller to be thoroughly recommended and once hooked I am sure anyone will want to read all the others as well. Excellent!

Mr. Bateman's foibles...Silencer or repression ???
I 1 books. So I reckon I've got enough insight into Mr. Bateman's style of writing. Page 229 and 233. The proof reader just just have missed them. So I had to smile when I saw them... I don't know if there is a word for binge reading, to be acceptable. But I've had the sheer joy of reading 11 books in a short space of time. Visions of Idris Elba launching over the sofa and binge watching Sky.....if you visualise that, great, if not, then ahh well...it doesn't matter. My rather sedate version is curling up in the sofa, cup of coffee at the ready and then begin. I'm ready now to start the next book, never have I enjoyed a week of pure joy reading, learning and enjoying and I will be sad when I've finished the last one. Make no mistake, I will await for whatever book comes next from Mr Bateman, it's not called stalking when you follow an author, is it ?????????
The book was excellent reading, great escapism from the everyday drudgery of life and a Covid restricted world. I love the determination and steel shown by King in his endeavours. Bateman is a master of his craft, his storytelling is brilliant, and unfortunately the book is finished far to quickly.
Another brilliant Alex King story. I enjoy the realism of the and accuracy of the weapons descriptions that so many authors often get wrong. The villains are truly villainous and the good guys not always good but prevail against evil. Next Alex King book please...
Enjoyable action novel that keeps you involved. The British terminology and spelling break up the flow a bit and, sadly, way too many typos for a tale of this quality. Spend a few dollars and put some polish on this gem.
King is effective, experienced , and being hunted by an enemy. Unfortunately, Caroline doesn't get away before Cole gets to her, as a means of getting back at King. She's now vulnerable and in a coma. There's a lot going on in this story, so buckle up.
I have really enjoyed reading this series of Alex King books, the twists and turns keep you interested, I will have to read more books from this author
… but I feel Bateman took one step too far with this episode. The story was tense and gripping as ever but some of the elements (for me) were too outlandish and a little cavalier.
King back to his best. I felt that with the previous couple of books the Alex King story was starting to run out of steam. This was AP Bateman back to his rip roaring best.
