"You get to decide where your happiness comes from. What's important is now."
This was a lot of fun to read! I totally confess that I haven't actually read the Demon Slayer manga to completion (though I've looked up plenty of spoilers LOL) and only got this volume because Rengoku was in it. I happen to see there was talk of Rengoku's cooking skills and bought it right away because he is in my top 5 favorite characters of all time and knew I would want to read more about him.
Because of all that, I wasn't really expecting to super enjoy this light novel as horrible as that sounds. I didn't have high expectations since I was only buying it for one chapter, but I found that I had a fun time reading and was really impressed by how the writer brought these characters to life. I didn't think I would find Zenitsu nearly as endearing as I did in this light novel as I would have if I have been watching the anime or reading the manga, but the Zenitsu-focused chapters were actually my favorite. (Though that opening chapter with Tanjiro and Nezuko was VERY good too!)
It was fun realizing that the original mangaka of Demon Slayer did the illustrations in this as well as proofread over the chapters because it makes me feel this is cannon, which is something personally very important to me.
Overall, I'm really glad I read this light novel! It makes me want to try the second one because I loved being able to hang out with these fun characters in this way. Definitely recommend if you love Demon Slayer and want to get to know them on a "deeper" level or see more fun shenanigans between all of them!
"Struggling with things is definitely not a waste of time. It's necessary to train the mind and become stronger."
”the boy who was like the sun, used a single sentence to transform the girl who was like a puppet into a human—“
i obviously didn’t read this in thai, but this is the only version goodreads has listed so i’m going with it. getting in the heads of the characters was cool. inosuke, tanjiro, zenitsu, aoi, nezuko, and kanao >>>>
ch 1: flower of happiness: 5 stars ch 2: for whose sake: 5 stars ch 3: the chronicles of the disturbance caused by fortune telling: 3 stars ch 4: aoi and kanao: 5 stars ♡ ch 5: kimetsu academy tales: 2 stars
isn't it fun when there's a random incestous line in the last chapter?
this book was *vomit noises*. i was debating between having this or The Secret History as my next read, and i definitely chose the wrong one. the only reason this isn't one star is because there were some pretty lines, but this was very fanfiction-esque. and one of the stories had a title that used a double exclamation mark. i hate typos. maybe this book was better before translation, but there was so much casual sexism that i think i'd hate either way. i'm glad this is over.
Rather than being a single story, the light novel was actually an anthology. 5 chapters, each with a self contained misadventure focusing around one of the characters. It was slightly jarring at first not being able to see the character's expressions, but it got fun to imagine what the scene would look like. It felt just like the manga in tone, and I started to be able to imagine it a lot easier as it went on. Now I've got just a few more light novels to go, then in caught up!
They got to write a prose novel. Good for them. I would have enjoyed the stories more if they were not written for 10 year olds. There was also the problem with having Zenitsu be a main character in three of the short stories. I don't get the interest and love for that sex obsessed whiny character he just sucks all the air out of those stories. Beyond those issues I did like the rest of the collection.
Kimetsu no Yaiba is my favourite manga ever, so I obviously had to read the light novels too.
In general, I loved coming back to it, but I felt there was something a bit… weird? I know it was only supervised by Gotouge-sensei, but still I felt like I couldn’t completely connect with the characters here. I specially disliked a lot how Zenitsu was portrayed. I know he isn’t perfect in the manga, but his development was amazing and made me cry a lot in the last arc, but here… he’s extremely gross, which is a shame and the reason I’m giving it 4 stars.
This book was adorable! I loved it so much! It has five different short stories set in the world of demon slayer! The fifth was a Kimetsu Academy story! It had a couple of illustrations, and I loved the one with Nezuko and Tanjiro. It is a beautiful and wholesome book, It does have spoilers for Demon Slayer, so I recommend reading the manga first. Overall, a 10/10 (I give too many books this rating lol)
(This is an older review of mine, written right after reading the book earlier this year)
Nội dung vài chuyện ngắn đơn giản ngoài lề của thanh gươm diệt quỷ hoy, đọc cũng cute phết á. Chữ to, sách mỏng dính gần 200 trang thôi nên đọc nhanh cực.
Super fun and quick read! It is always a joy and honor to read something that brings us back into the Demon Slayer world, with all the truly wonderful characters! 👍👍💯⭐⭐
The story about Aoi and Kanao was super cute, by far my favorite out of all the stories in here, followed closely by the first story about the flower of happiness.
My problem? Zenitsu. I know that he's a very popular character in Japan, which is why the author focused him...unfortunately, I think he's completely obnoxious and I really wish the stories had focused on someone else (entirely) instead of being the main focus all but two stories.
This was a light novel following the characters from the Demon Slayer manga. It is an anthology made up of five different stories. An enjoyable and quick read, I think I would have enjoyed them more as a manga. Some of my favorite characters personalities didn't seem to transfer well into novel form. But over all I still enjoyed it!
This is a read I would only recommend for Demon Slayer fans! For those who have not read Demon Slayer, I recommend reading this after you've read the series, or after the first couple of arcs of Demon Slayer. This story does seem to take place in the scenes where Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke go to Wisteria House in order to rest. The writing did feel sort of disconnected at times, and it was harder than normal for me to really get into the story.
It was a quick read that I enjoyed. It didn't add much to the overall Demon Slayer story, but it did add complexity to one of the characters, Aoi. I love how each character was pretty much the same, and Aya Yajima managed to capture the empathy and kindness of Tanjiro. It was fantastic to see how both Kanao and Aoi were impacted by Tanjiro's words.
These were some scenes or pieces of dialogue that had me laughing: "With Inosuke it was the headbutt. He likely just wanted to interact with people in his own special way, but he whipped out this headbutt whenever and wherever he got the chance. Honestly it exhausted Tanjiro. His ribs would never heal with this going on." 🤣*mentally pictures Inosuke repeatedly headbutting Tanjiro INOSUKE being Inosuke-🥲
"This guy's hopeless," Inosuke interjected. *About Zenitsu "Inosuke," Tanjiro said in a gentle rebuke. "He was always a creep, but we're talking danger zone here. He can't tell the difference between fantasy and reality anymore."
About Giyu: "There was a rumor that he he'd rescued and adopted a kitten he found on a rainy day, so maybe he was a surprisingly good guy." Giyu having a cat 🙃that needs to happen!!!
Aoi and Kanao had an interesting relationship that was explored. In conclusion, this was an enjoyable and quick read. 🆗PLOT ☑️CHARACTERS ⛔PLOT TWIST
