The book “Neptune’s Window: First Glance” by L.L. Lewin was such a good read! I loved that the book took place near the ocean because I haven’t read too many books that do. I read this book during Summer so the beachy setting definitely gave those Summer vibes. The writing was smooth and had great pacing. No matter what the story always seemed to go deeper and never fell flat.

I really enjoyed the main character Aries. I liked that she wasn’t your typical ‘perfect’ or put together character. She was described to be a normal teenage girl that had her flaws and insecurities. Okay, not exactly normal since she does have the ability to talk to spirits. But normal in that she is just plain and I like that because I feel a lot of people can relate to her. I hated the bullies of course. Everytime they would appear I would roll my eyes which is the reaction we should all have. The high school drama in this story felt too real for me! It definitely didn’t make me miss my high school haha. Sometimes when books cover high school drama they can get tiring but this one never did.

I enjoyed the overall plot and found myself really caring not only about the main characters but the side characters as well. Even though I hate love triangles I tried not to let that cloud my judgment. It definitely helped that it wasn’t annoying and didn’t take away from the main plot. I do have my favorite and am curious to know what happens in the second book! I will definitely be continuing this series and I recommend it to anyone who wants a mystery/supernatural/romance book.

If you want a book that transports you into another person's life then this one's for you. You will literally feel like you're beside Aries silently watching her life like one of the spirits she talks to.

*Received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. In no way does this affect my opinion. *

I won this book in a goodreads drawing.

A high school sophomore who can talk to spirits tries to deal with them, and the normal high school drama with the usual rich snobs, and two boyfriends.

The main difference with this book, is that it makes a big deal about the protagonist being tall for a girl.

“Neptune’s Window… it’s a glimpse of what you don’t understand, or pay attention to. Like, you’re only seeing or comprehending half of something.”

Aries and her father are new to Newport, hoping to find a fresh start. Still plagued by the inexplicable loss of her mother, Aries is haunted by the memories-and some might argue-haunted in general. See, Aries can also communicate with the dead, spirits often sending her messages, welcomed or not. But the one person she wants to communicate with the most, her mother, remains frustratingly unreachable.

Eager to live a normal, teenaged life, Aries hopes the actual move will also help her to move on. But as soon as she walks the halls of her new school and meets the stereotypical mean girls and jock guys, she realizes this place is just more of the same. Still, nearly every encounter triggers cryptic warnings from beyond. Who is she to help these strangers, and why does so much of it connect back to her mother?

Neptune’s Window: First Glance is the first in a trilogy, promising to answer the questions it lays out in its first installment. I was intrigued by the mix of coming of age and mystery this story had to offer. However, if you’re looking for book one to leave you with at least some answers, sadly this just isn’t the case. Many doors are opened in this book, some of it still baffling. I would, however, continue the trilogy if only to see how it all comes together, since, as the title suggests, I don’t see the whole picture…yet.

Highschool drama, check. Supernatural elements, check. Nail-biting mystery, check. Realistic characters, check. A pace that keeps you turning pages, check.

From the first page, I was sucked into Neptune's Window: First Glance. I NEEDED to know more about Aries' backstory and medium abilities. The two boys vying for her attention + annoying popular girls + an anonymous antagonist just increased the stakes and the speed at which I was turning pages.

I also appreciated the realistically portrayed characters including their decisions and conversations through grief and questions. This is hit or miss when the MC is YA. Usually, you'll find they don't want to talk to their parents or their parents are jerks and don't talk to them either. It was refreshing to have the opposite occur.

The ending was creepy in the best way and made me want to start book 2: Neptune's Window: Deep Stare ASAP!

Trigger Warnings: suicide ideation, underage drinking & drug use, death, drug overdose, bullying including cyberbullying, grief over parental loss

Neptune's Window: First Glance by LL Lewin, is a book about a teenage medium, Aries Dade, who moves to Newport Beach, California. As she endures the struggles of high school, she starts getting curious on why her mother doesn't contact her from the spirit world, even though every other spirit can. She starts investigating into how her mother actually died, and she realizises that everyone close to her might be involved. With a touch of romance (with a love triangle), this book is mysterious, adventurous, and supernatural.

I honestly loved this book because I loved the focus on mystery with the subplot of romance. I have to say I'm on team Damon!! I loved to see how Lewin delved into each character and portrays them with real life issues such as underage drinking and drugs. I usually don't enjoy supernatural books very often, but this one had just the right amount and I enjoyed waiting for the spirits to come in contact with Aries.

Thank you so much LL Lewin with providing me with the book!

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review. I wish I could give this book so many more stars then just five!! Loved the astrology being part of the story, it's very different and unique. Always wanted to know more about astrology and feel like maybe this was my sign. The book is very well written and absolutely captivating! The only thing I will warn is that this is a book series so there will be cliffhangers, but trust me once you start reading it you won't want to put it down. It has definitely been a page turning book for me. The characters and connection you feel with the characters is amazing. Will definitely be reading the book series more then once. Very highly recommended. Personally I don't feel like there is anything that the author could of improved on or even done differently. It was absolutely captivating and brilliant just the way it is.

“Neptune’s Window: First Glance” which I won through Goodreads Giveaways is a compelling mix of romance, secrets, lies and mystery that begins when Aries Dale, a teenage medium with a connection to the afterworld starts school at Newport Beach High. Making a fresh start after the strange circumstances surrounding her mother’s death Aries is in awe of the mass of students and expensive cars. With her height, dark hair and a father who works long hours she contrasts sharply with the three rich, popular blondes (the P-Pack) who begin to torment her especially when she captures the eye of star football quarterback Cory Douglas. But Cory isn’t the only boy who wants to be more than friends with the fifteen-year-old because rumored bad-boy Damon LeMoore a senior and son of a judge has taken notice of her, and is all too willing to help her unravel the secrecy and falsehoods surrounding her mother’s death.

Well-developed and fast-paced, suspense quickly build as a few spirits whisper in her head guiding not only her love life but to discovering what happened to her mother who has failed to contact her from beyond the grave. Intertwined with the lies, deception and betrayal that continually haunt her path as she searches for the truth and a connection to the mother she lost, Aries must face her feelings for Cory and Damon, the two friends who became enemies. Intensity rises as emotions run high with Peyton’s pursuit of Cory; when Aries is drugged at a party; and with damming pictures found at Damon’s house. Swiftly this intriguing plot flows seamlessly to a surprising climax that begs for the second novel in this trilogy.

Among a host of characters bringing the story to life is fifteen-year-old Aries Dade a determined, spunky girl with a beautiful soul; the rich, pretty, snobby and jealous Peyton Price; the confident, cocky, but guileless Cody Douglas; and the edgy, stubborn Damon LeMoore. I enjoyed the loving and protective interaction of Aries with her dad Ryan and Gladys pride and devotion for her grandson Cory while the Judge’s abusive treatment of his son Damon contrasts dramatically.

Riveting from the first chapter to the last, "First Glance" is a well-written and enjoyable story with multifaceted characters and I look forward to the next book in the Neptune’s Window trilogy.

Things aren’t always what they appear to be, Aries. Dig deeper and you’ll see.

Oh my god! I was gifted this book and let me just say it is phenomenal. It has been a long time since I read a YA book and this one does not disappoint. It is everything you could want my only complaint is now I have to wait to read the others before I know what happens!!! First Glance is the first in the Neptune Trilogy and it definitely leaves you wanting to know what is next. (Good news you can purchase them all now).
First Glance is about a young medium named Aries Dade who has just lost her mother. Aries is able to communicate with a variety of spirits but for some reason she can’t contact her mother. Aries is convinced that their is more to her mother’s death than meets the eye. Her suspicions begin to be confirmed the more she learns about her new school and the other students. As she searches for answers about her mother she must also navigate the realities of being a teenager in high school.
She quickly makes enemies of the popular girls and finds herself the love interest of two boys she is attracted to for very different reasons. Each warns her against a relationship with the other, but neither will give her answers as to why she should avoid the other one. She soon finds herself the object of a bully intent on ruining her reputation. Unsure who to trust Aries is determined to learn the truth about the death of her mother and how it’s connected to her new school.
Lewin’s novel is a fast paced narrative with extremely well developed characters. Lewin is able to showcase the realities of high school and the angst of being a teenager with such precision it’s as if you were part of the story. Be prepared for a cliffhanger and to not be able to set this one down until it’s done! I cannot wait to continue the series and find out what happens next.

After the mysterious and untimely death of her mother, high school sophomore Aries Dade is desperate for answers. Talking with spirits has always come naturally to Aries, but for some reason she cannot make a connection with her mom. After Aries and her dad move to Newport Beach for a fresh start strange things start happening. As soon as Aries sets foot in her new school spirits bombard her mind leading her to clues and people pertaining to her mother's death. Between the popular football star and the high school bad boy competing for her affection and the cool girls hating her, no one can be trusted and everyone is a suspect.Even the spirits contacting her may have ulterior motives! Will Aries finally find the answers she is desperately seeking or will she be sorry she ever set foot in Newport?

Neptune's Window: First Glance is the debut novel in a trilogy for L.L.Lewin and is a paranormal mystery romance with a sprinkling of astrology for fun. This book brings many familiar things together in such a unique way that it flows comfortably and still has this ominous aura that you crave from novels. I would recommend reading this book if you used to watch Laguna Beach or Pretty Little Liars. The book is YA but I think many generations will fall in love with Aries and the cast of questionable characters.

I read this book mostly at night and will admit I stayed up late several times for “just one more chapter”. The chapters are short which is convenient if you have time to just squeeze in a few pages of reading. I will warn you that this book ends in a cliffhanger with many questions left unanswered. I will definitely be reviewing the following two in the trilogy and can not wait until the next installment!

“Neptune’s Window: First Glance” is the first book in the trilogy and was an entertaining young adult fantasy novel with astrological nuances, and I liked reading it.

On the one hand, we have the mystery surrounding Piper and Jake that Aries investigates. Since she is a medium, I loved how she used her powers to get the answers. The author also added eerie elements, like when the souls tell her to get out of the house. Quite a lot happens to Aries in this book, and I found myself turning the pages to find out what happened next.

On the other hand, we also have the teen drama that Aries goes through as she fits into her new life. I liked reading about her feelings for Cory, especially the conflicting moments when she finds out what he did to Damon. The rivalry between Aries and Stacy was also an added treat to the tale. She also has a beautiful connection with Gladys. On a side note, I also loved the bond between Aries and Ryan. The author also ends the story on a nice note, making you look forward to reading the next book in the series.

However, I sometimes felt that the romance strayed the story’s mystery. Also, there were quite a few additional characters on canvas like Kimberly, who I felt did not add much value.

Nevertheless, I thought the story was creative, and I loved the astrological elements embedded, which I have never read in a young adult novel before. Overall, “Neptune’s Window: First Glance” is an exciting start to the trilogy, and I wonder how it continues!

5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐!

Neptune's Window by L.L. Lewin is an incredibly captivating read! I recently finished this enthralling mystery/supernatural/romance novel and was completely absorbed in its story. The protagonist, Aries, possesses the unique ability to communicate with spirits, and I was drawn into the realistic high school drama that unfolded around her. I found myself emotionally invested in the well-developed main and side characters. The mystery of Aries' mother's untimely death and her struggle to connect with her spirit kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the book.

The seamless blend of mystery and romance, coupled with the intriguing supernatural elements, made for an unforgettable reading experience. The author, LL Lewin, masterfully delved into the characters and skillfully addressed real-life issues such as underage drinking and drugs.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book and eagerly anticipate diving into the rest of the series!

Many thanks to LL Lewin for creating such a captivating story! :)

~I'd like to thank the awesome author for sending me a free copy in exchange for my honest review!~
This was an AWESOME book, I was seriously captivated from, like, the first paragraph (or sentence XD). The plot moved just fast enough, the characters were captivating, and there were secrets yet to be uncovered! (dun dun dun...)
Although there was quite a stereotypical element to this book, "the girl, the bad boy, and the quarterback" love triangle, it was written very well. You never know who she'll be together with in the end, and the cliffhanger (it was amazing!) relates to the love triangle and leaves you hanging on the edge!
Aries' "special power" is also cool. Sometimes it almost feels like it's her conscience talking to her, except it knows things/secrets about others, so there's some pretty cool perks to it XD
All in all, I adored this book, and I CAN NOT wait to read the sequel!!
Recommended!

This was a very unique book, in writing style, themes, and content. A few things I liked about the book:
The main character has a very multifaceted personality, and the book does a good job of exploring the ways she is growing into her own person and the way that her interaction with the world is changing. Every character she comes across seems to have their own secrets, and there's a good bit of fun in trying to work out who might be connected to which situations, and what everyone's true motives are.

Other than that, there were many points in the book where I felt very confused. The story builds up slowly, similar to the first few chapters in a thriller novel where you don't know anything but the tension builds — only, in Neptune's Window: First Glance, it seems to be the majority of the book. The storyline has a lot of good ideas, but the chronology of the book is confusing. It doesn't follow a coherent timeline, almost as if the book was finished and all the scenes were swapped around.

It was also difficult to feel fully immersed in the book due to a lack of character or setting descriptions. There was the occasional "Wow, the sunset is really cool" in someone's dialogue, or someone reaches for their 'leather jacket', but other than that, it seems to be up to the reader. While I can see the value in having a little mystery surrounding characters that clearly have plenty to hide, it made it very difficult to feel present in the story.

Another thing that threw me off frequently was the lack of consistency in the characters' actions. Again, I want to emphasize that some ambiguity is essential to creating a suspenseful atmosphere and engaging readers — but this was too far. Characters (especially Paige and Piper) would be described as bullies on one page and then really good, kind, people with stories and pain. These two sides can co-exist in a character, but the constant vacillation between "She's one of the bitchy ones" and "She's one of the kindest people" was very confusing. Her dad's girlfriend has a hear-to-hear with her and they have a great relationship for one day in between scenes in which she expresses her distaste for her "skanky" ways. Despite this change, there is no acknowledgment from the main character or from anyone else about their behavior being unusual, even though as a reader, you know it is. This makes it impossible to figure out how the main character feels about these people — and more importantly — how we as readers are supposed to feel about them.

All said, Neptune's Window: First Glance has a really great concept and has a cool magic system that I was really excited to read about. It felt like the entire book was only the first 5 chapters of a novel carrying the entire exposition, but I can see how that may have been done to lead into the next book. While I really wish that the book had more answers and fewer loose ends, I am really excited to have a chance to grab the next book in the series.

Her feet slipped below the coolness of the sand as she watched the ocean waves crash in front of her. This was a place of peace and solitude, a place she could feel the presence of her mom. The sun was beginning to set, painting the sky in dark, rich hues. She closed her eyes and felt the stirring of the spirits… they’d lead her to the truth.

Neptune’s Window is a YA mystery following Aries, a sophomore in high school who can communicate with spirits. When a spirit contacts her and tells Aries that her grandson is in trouble, Aries is thrust into a web of lies and secrets.

This is the start of a mystery trilogy and I found it to be pretty entertaining. The writing wasn’t the best (this is YA and reads like a very young YA), but I was curious to find out what was going on and to try and uncover the secrets Aries was coming across. This ends on a cliffhanger, so reading book two is a must to know what’s going on. It gave some Gossip Girl vibes and had classic high school drama and a love triangle.

If you’re a YA drama/mystery fan, then you may enjoy picking up this trilogy.

CW: Death of a Parent/Loved One, Bullying, Underage Drinking/DUI, Drug Use/Overdose, Murder, Abandonment, Suicidal Ideation, Mental Health.

This book is a perfect summer read- it takes place by the ocean one of my favorite places to be all the time..
Aries is a high school student, that has the gift of talking to spirits.. She has just moved to Newport Beach and is struggling with why she can connect with all spirits but her mother.
Being the new pretty girl in school she quickly grabs the attention of not one but two boys, so there is a love triangle angle here which I tend to not like but was written very well.. Damon and Cory are the boys who were once friends and not dislike each other and both like Aires.. And of course the popular girls do not like her..
Aries is trying to navigate this new high school and new people, all while tapping into the spirits that talk to her, to find out what happened to her mother..
The story is well written and told at a good pace, I was not wanting to stop reading. The end will leaving you wanting to run for book two Neptune's Window: Deep Stare - which I now need to have in my life..
If you are looking for a new YA series, with a great paranormal flare and some romance thrown in there, then this is a great series to take a look at..

I have SO many questions. I’m frustrated. This was reminiscent of “Twilight”, but with teenage mediums and spirits instead of Vampires and Werewolves. It was *embarrassingly* compelling and I couldn’t stop reading, so I flew through it. Then it ended abruptly and…I’m frustrated. I have one million questions and I think I have no choice but to read the next two books. The writing is nothing to write home about, but I can’t lie and say it wasn’t fast paced and something that hooked me immediately. The characters are the most cliche high school archetypes imaginable, but the insanity of the (many) mysteries within made this a book I couldn’t put down. Again…the entire experience reminded me of reading “Twilight” only I’m 30 instead of 15. It was flawed, but it got me. I’m going three because I was invested, but also maybe just confused enough that I had no choice but to read on. I have NO idea where this is all going but I *need* answers to my one million questions. I’m embarrassingly in, but I’m in. Thank you for the digital copy Red Clover Digital!

LL Lewin brings us an intriguing paranormal mystery with great emotion in Neptune’s Window: First Glance! After the death of her mother, Aries Dade and her father move to California to rebuild their life. But as spirits begin speaking with Aries, and all the people they meet seem to have some connection to her mother, she begins to discover that there is more to her mother’s death than first revealed. Lewin builds the tension and mystery really well through her fantastic description, and Aries was a really likeable character to travel an emotional journey with! This is the start to a compelling mystery that left me speculating on what will come next. If you love mysteries with a healthy dose of paranormal and young adult lit blended nicely in, definitely come take a peek through Neptune’s Window!

I really liked the YA high school background/setting for this story. I enjoyed reading about Aries who can communicate with the dead spirits. You also hear about Cory and Damon, her two love interests. I can honestly say that I am 100% pro Damon versus Cory. I didn't like Cory as a character and her just rubs me the wrong way. I don't know maybe we will find out more in the next book on Cory and maybe why he is just not my favorite:) And I can't wait to find out more with Aries and her mom. I want to find out what happened to her! This was an interesting read and if you like high school romance settings with a little paranormal element mixed in, try this one out!

Neptune's Window by L.L. Lewin was the right about of teen drama, beautiful beachy settings, supernatural elements, and the choice between two incredibly adorable guys. The overall mystery of the plotline had me flipping through the pages in the need to know what was going on. I thought the writing was very well thought out and developments and I enjoyed how relatable each of the characters was. I look very forward to reading the next book!
