I loved how this was instructional and inspirational and practical. The trifecta. I really respect Phylicia and think she’s an excellent resource. ♥️ Also, I read this mostly while nursing my baby while my big kids ate breakfast, so now it will always be connected to happy memories (in addition to all the good teaching) in my mind.

Very practical and short book about being hospitable and talking to your young kids about Gospel truths each day. There is an appendix that gives language on how to answer difficult questions your child may ask. The actual book is only 86 pages with pages 87-105 of appendix questions and answers - a very quick read!

this is such a great resource to disciple the hearts of our children. i plan to pick up this book often, especially when my children have questions about God and theology. i love how everything she speaks of as a homemaker, homeschool mom and entrepreneur flows from the framework of living out the gospel in front of her children.

I love a good practical “this is what I do” piece. So thankful for Phylicias ministry and her work, and this is no exception! I was inspired to do better for my family and also gave me good ideas and places to start in areas that I’ve been questioning how to move forward. I would gift this book to mommas!

“Isaiah 40:11 says, “He gently leads those with young.” As we lead our babies, He leads us. As we disciple these little souls, He is discipling our hearts.”

This book was so refreshing. So much was packed into this little book that it’s hard to write a concise review about it, but every bit was useful! And I think I loved the details the most 😄 - especially knee to knee time (for sibling arguments), how to share the gospel with kids, and the breakdown of how to be more productive.

Since I read Habits of the Household and this one back-to-back, I find myself comparing the two. They both cover a lot of the same topics (discipling with the patterns of your day), but I loved this book’s addition of how to share the gospel with your children. I also loved the real life examples of songs, books, activities, and chores included in this one.

The only downside to this book for me was the lack of a contents page in the beginning. Leaving that out made it feel a bit less organized.

But still a highly recommended read!

“We must show them what a life loyal to Christ (a life of faith) looks like. And when they ask, “Why do we do this? Why do we study verses, attend church, sing together, talk about God?” we will be able to tell them why.”

I follow Phylicia on Instagram and appreciate the home she has cultivated with her kids. This quick ebook gives the reader insight on some of the biblical principles she holds to when raising up littles to be respectful and loving individuals. In a time where “accepting all big feelings” and “holding space for emotions” is becoming popular, this book shines light on the reality that as Christians we do need to hold our children to a higher standard and teach them self control with their emotions while also being a space place for them to share their emotions and feelings. This book gave me some practical ideas I would like to implement in my own home in hopes of cultivating a happy home and disciplining in a respectful but NOT permissive way.

I have wanted a practical parenting book like this for 14 years. Better late than never. 🤪
If you have kids under the age of 10 and you’re a Christian parent, you need this book.
It tackles parenting from the Biblical perspective but actually gives examples and ideas of implementing them.

Best explanation of leading a kid to Christ that I’ve ever read!

Would pair so well with Love Centered Parenting by Crystal Paine.

There were some really good ideas in this book-I have a list of things that I want to try! There were ideas I really resonated with, but others that may work for some children but certainly not all. I get that this is her own experience, but could be discouraging to some parents who are trying all the things and still struggling through behaviors that feel endless. For example: ‘we tried this, and the behavior disappeared in a week.’ Or simply ‘we do not permit thrashing or screaming.’ I tried really hard not to roll my eyes.
That said, she is sharing her own experiences as a mom with her own children, so I can respect that.
Some of her theology in the back made me raise my eyebrows a bit. Especially on the answers about the Trinity. Mayyybe it was only because she was trying to simplify her language for young children…but I’m not quite sure.
At the end of the day, it did give me some ideas that I can try out immediately and I appreciate that. Also, it’s a super easy and short read. Could be read in one sitting if you were leisurely reading in coffee shop..but let’s be real, moms of young children are reading it, so it’ll take a bit longer.

I thought this was a good resource for Christian parents that takes you through the basics of discipling your children. It is simple, practical and clearly laid out using the phrases in Deuteronomy 6:6-9 as the framework for each chapter. She also includes some scripts or ideas in the appendix for how to answer questions that kids may have about theology. I appreciate Phylicia's positive attitude towards her children and the wonderful opportunity Christian parents have to steward these little people God has blessed us with.

Really loved this one! Even though I don't have children of my own, I appreciated the practical applications to have an impact on young disciples around me. I also appreciated the underlying theme of intentional living, as I think about the kind of culture I want to cultivate in my home, even now as a single woman. The Theology Scripts in the appendix are super helpful as well, summarizing some of the most commonly asked questions into simple but theologically-sound answers.

So many things I love about this book: (1) It's incredibly practical and specific. (2) It provides age-appropriate language for disciplining children and teaching them the fundamental truths of the gospel. (3) It's short and there's no fluff (which I appreciate as a busy young mom)! I took notes while I read but basically re-wrote half of the book in my notes because there are so many practical items to reference. Very good!

Definitely helpful content. However, I wish she would have shared more vulnerably of her experiences, instead of just sharing very factually from a place of what she learned. I would have enjoyed hearing more of the highs and lows of her story.

This is a great book for any Christian parent who’s looking how to practically disciple their children to know who God is, how much He loves them and how to follow Jesus. This would be a great gift for a new parent (or even a seasoned parent still in the little years!)

Read through this ebook in a day after seeing a few recommendations for it. It had some practical tips but nothing groundbreaking. My favorite section was the list of questions on cultivating a family culture. I think the script section at the end would actually be a helpful theologic exercise for parents to do on their own. 3.5 stars 👍🏼

This is about 2.5hrs on audio. Definitely recommend for a quick motherhood pick-me-up and book to help refocus and remember what the day to day is all about: living out the gospel for our kids.

I really enjoy following Phylicia on Instagram and appreciate her solid, wise advice. This ebook (side note: first ebook I've ever read!) is a short read designed for parents and caregivers of young children who desire to raise their children to know and love the Lord. I appreciated the practical advice rooted from Deuteronomy but didn't find any of it to be new or groundbreaking hence the 3 stars.

SO good!! This is a really short book and a really quick read, but it is absolutely packed. There are tons of great questions, resources, scripts, and ideas for leading kids to Jesus. You won’t find fluffy language or rose-colored glasses. She wrote this for parents of children who are about 8 and under WHILE she had children 8 and under.

Since it wasn’t traditionally published, she didn’t have to fill the pages to make the book “long enough” to publish. It is just super practical, in-the-thick-of-it advice that you can implement right away.

I love that she starts with establishing your family culture. I copied down the questions and brought them on a date night with my husband. I also brought the topics of mealtime discipleship, bedtime discipleship, family movie night, and more to talk about together to establish some routines that point our family where we want our family to go. They don’t have to be elaborate, but they ought to be intentional.

When a topic (like technology use or disciple) needs more in-depth discussion, she just gives you the highlights and examples from her family and then points you to another resource. I love this because it really makes this book “choose your own adventure”. If there’s a topic you know you need to address, you can read further. If not, there’s a brief overview and reminder.

I could sing this book’s praises all day, but I think my review would be longer than the actual book. If you’re trying to raise kids under 8 to know Jesus, just pick it up - especially during her half-off sale - it’s absolutely worth it.

Edited to Add - I’m not sure how much of this info is covered in her new book Every Home a Foundation, but I could see there being some overlapping content. It’s on my TBR so I’ll update if it’s very similar.

This book was incredibly practical. It wasted no time in the frivolous stuff and got straight to the point, which I really appreciated. I mean, I enjoy all the stuff some other authors put into their books, but sometimes you just really want to know what’s going on. She wastes no time in saying what she does and how that works best for her family culture.

Honestly, this is an excellent resource that I will definitely go back to as my child gets older. There’s so much she talked about that I was wanting to implement in our lives, and different ways to approach certain theological topics that I hadn’t even thought of. I am so glad she talked about how to guide her kids to accepting Jesus. I was of the “ask Jesus into your heart” generation. Nothing wrong with that, but it’s a tougher approach to use these days as that sentence doesn’t quite signify the importance of what you are doing.

In general, a good quick read that I think will definitely help guide me as I parent.
