The word classic is thrown around a lot today. I reserve that for something that achieves that status. This book is a modern-day classic. Simply put, this is a grand retelling of Beauty and the Beast but done in such a fashion to make it one of a kind. Stylish, evocative and so easily readable - this should be a bestseller.

There is so much in this book. This book is about love. There is a certain pure truth about the love in this book. People in this world could be better if they accepted love the way Belle and Searlus do. Love is not simply the first impression of outward looks. This book shows love is all-encompassing and that beauty exists on many levels. In many ways, Searlus is more beautiful than the overly becoming Belle.

After reading this book, no one will disagree that enchanted furniture is a must to own. What woman doesn't want a closet/wardrobe that would magically select the item you need to wear to an exact function?

The love story throughout Searlus and the Sailor is at the heart of the story. The conflicts that always ensue when power is involved are well written and gripping. I honestly loved this book because it was, in its whole, a near-perfect book to me. It is an additional level of fun that Belle does curse like a sailor but hey, she's a sailor!

I cannot wait to see what this author writes next. This is a must-read and I recommend it to everyone on the planet. Buy this book, you will be impressed you did.

I am absolutely blown away by Mordelle's imaginative storytelling and unforgettable characters in this unique Beauty and the Beast retelling. It is more than just outstanding; it is a masterpiece that has left me speechless (well, almost 😏)...

Searlus and the Sailor is a SLOW-burning romantic tale that takes place in an enchanted castle - of sorts. It follows the story of a cursed King named Searlus and the tenacious Andre Belle Bonnet, who challenges him at every turn. Despite the obstacles that stand in the way of their future together, love ultimately triumphs over doubts and villainous schemes.

The story unfolds as if reading from Belle's diary, each chapter dedicated to a new entry. Although I would have loved to hear Searlus' viewpoint, the concept of telling the story this way is so unusual that it's hard not to fall under its spell - especially with Belle's humorous musings!

One of the things I loved most about this story is Belle's bold sexuality and the gender-fluidity of some of the characters, including Belle. I must share my favorite passage below, which had me snickering but also swooning in admiration:

"Oh, Belle, trust your father," he reassured me, "give it some time. He needs lessons! Don your sailor's hat and take the lead until he knows how to treat you in return. Work him like those virgin barmaids you were so fond of!"

This leads me to mention the noteworthy secondary characters, Belle's father Marcus, and the Royal Healer, Emma, who share a romance of their own. And, of course, Lawrence! They add comic relief, heart, and wisdom, making this story even more satisfying.

Now for Searlus, an intriguing and complex character who was turned into a "monster" as a child thanks to an alchemist who used exotic animals to save his life. Searlus has a kind soul but lives in fear and self-loathing, which leads to much of the conflict between Belle and himself. Searlus' primal desire and love for Belle ultimately lead to explosive and sensual scenes of passion, making their relationship truly taboo.

The way Mordelle has crafted this story is exceptional, and I cannot recommend it enough!!

Mordelle has taken the basic structure of Beauty and the Beast, and woven a delightful tale around it.
Andre Belle Dubois finds herself in the King's castle, having opted to try her luck where so many have failed before. But Belle is no innocent; her back story - slowly revealed through the book - is one of adventure and strength. I suspect it would make an interesting prequel in its own right.
The first two-thirds of the book take place in the castle, and the author slowly builds an atmospheric and sensual world, inhabited solely by Belle, King Searlus, and his magical entourage. Keenly aware of the outside world, Belle keeps a diary, knowing that if she leaves, she will forget everything that happened within the castle walls.
She slowly gets to know Searlus and begins to understand him. Her natural curiosity and impatience causes problems for them both, but their growing friendship is touching. The balance is interesting. Although he is the King, his isolation from people makes him shy and stilted around Belle. His desire for her frightens him. And lowly sailor she may be, but her previous lust for life - of both sexes - give her a confidence he so clearly lacks.
The final third of the book is set back in the world outside the castle. Exactly how and why, I'll leave you to find out. But Belle has no memory of her time with Searlus, and with a rebellion brewing, she has to try to piece together what happened and make a decision about where her future lies.
It's a beguiling tale, woven with snippets of Belle's past, which come to play a part in the denouement. The first part, in the castle, is soft, slow and mysterious, with a heavy sensuality hanging over it. I did find the dramatic change in tone between it and the second part something of a jolt. The gentle pace in the castle is replaced abruptly by the more mundane life outside, and it took me a few pages to adjust. But ultimately, that's the point. Belle has left a place of enchantment and resumed her former life, albeit she doesn't know why.
The eroticism is largely subtle and delicate, meaning the more savage or surprising elements have greater impact. Searlus and Belle are beautifully drawn, as are the secondary characters who have a vital part to play in the story. I was so happy that the author changed a significant element in the story which usually spoils the tale for me. I won't spoil your enjoyment by revealing it, though!
If you're looking for a delightful tale to settle down with on a cold dark night, I can happily recommend this book. Mystery, love, lust and magic in one simple package. Try it; I think you'll love it.

Book: Searlus and the sailor : An Erotic fantasy romance of beauty and the beast.
By : Mordelle

Who doesn't love fairy tails ? What about a fairy tail with a twist. I was so much fascinated after reading this amazing book SEARLUS AND THE SAILOR by Mordelle. Are you all a fan of beauty and the beast? If yes than you all should definitely not miss to read this one.

The story revolves around the two main characters Belle and Searlus . Searlus is a beast king of a kingdom , no one really knows how there king's look like though! One fine day when Belle reached the castle she never would have thought of that her life gonna change soon. The circumstances leading to her arrival at the castle unfold in a similar manner, but on this arrival , she was informed that she is a mistress and he will obey her. What happens next will definitely be making you all mesmerized . Their moments of love was something that I really enjoyed reading.

One can learn from this story is that person's beauty comes from a heart in love and when Searlus realizes the inner beauty of the beast and the feelings it has the outer appearance means nothing to her anymore. This story is about true love . In real life , not only fairy tales , every person we consider to be a soulmate is a beautiful king or Queen. The author has taken immense care in the description and portrayal of the characters which made the plot realistic. I'll definitely recommend all to read this one.

Amazing retelling from the Beauty and the Beast with an erotic and political approach that ges beyond the simple fairytale and really builds interresting and deep characters. I was fascinated by each one of them, particularly Searlus, the king, and Andre Belle, the beauty, and her past as a sailor. They characters are just fantastic, the descriptions great and very easy to read and i read the whole thing in just 4 days. I highly recommend it, and anything this girl writes (her fics are also stunning).

Highly recommended.

Spoiler section:
I was particularly fascinated by Marcus, the Beauty's father, his relationship with the Beast, and by Belle, her strong behaviour, her amazing past as a sailor, her open mind and her enjoying being Lord Andre, first mate of the Virtue. The author found a very intelligent way to include representation of different sexualities in a medieval tale, and I loved it. Also, I saw the shadow of a certain fandom and I loved it, but even with that it is very enjoyable.

A passionate adult fantasy.
Searlus and the Sailor is an intense and creative retelling of Beauty and the Beast.
The author revived the fairy tale through her excitably imaginative plot and distinctive, convoluted characters.
Crisp writing style and first person narrative cuts all the distance between the reader and the action right from the outset.
Minutely exciting and consuming to keep you up all night long.
'Mordelle's debut is a sultry adventure in provocative and picturesque world.'
Highly recommended to readers of retellings and Erotic/Adult Fantasy.
