No Spoilers!

“Everyone loves a pirate, right? “Handsome, adventurous, courageous, daring."

Indeed! Best get your sea legs on, mateys, for my favorite pirate author with quill in hand, takes us on another exhilarating, seafaring voyage with nefarious, unscrupulous, but sometimes charming marauders—and a timeless love story sure to hold you hostage between its pages!

No worries for you landlubbers, however, for Ms. Tyndall has cleverly intertwined the past and present in a time-slip novel guaranteed to leave your emotions as tossed as a ship upon the tumultuous seas—as our heroine, Lexie, finds herself connected to a "gentleman pirate" who lived 300 years prior and perhaps left clues to the whereabouts of buried treasure! As she searches for the priceless gems with her own charming "Professor Pirate" will she find something more precious than treasure in the process?

Sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes angsty, sometimes suspenseful, but always exciting, Timeless Treasure is chock-full of intriguing, lovable characters! And don't be surprised to find yourself falling for a certain charming pirate if you're not careful. (wink) What a treasure trove of fascinating, impeccably researched details regarding real-life pirates back in the day...not to mention two breathtaking romances for the price of one! Be sure to gift yourself a copy this Christmas!

MaryLu Tyndall once again takes her readers on a good pirate adventure. In part. For this is a time slip novel. She does this one well as she does with all her other books. The tale is based on a real pirate, too, and how his life affects those in the present day. So, settle back and be ready for a grand
adventure on the high seas and the present day!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher and author. I received no compensation and the review here is entirely my own opinion.

I'm giving this book five stars because this story is so beautiful!
Your heart will break for these people as the author tells their story and I learned quite a lot about Bonnet.
You know you're getting a treat when this author publishes a book because I don't see one that often from her.
Her writing is excellent! Her stories are so wonderful that they will draw you in in a second!
I finished this book in a couple of hours. I couldn't put it down!
You know, a thought accured to me while I was reading this book.
Bonnet came across to me as snooty and thought he was absolutely perfect which I disagreed with.
I didn't like the way he looked down on his crew or judged others beneath him.
Made me sad for him.
The greatest treasure anyone can have is with Jesus Christ and best of all, it's free. All you need to do is ask and believe.
Lexie, I can relate too in many ways. I liked her immensely because she's simply your down to earth person. She's like me. She wears her heart on her sleeve.
I love the inspiration verses that are in this story. They are gentle reminders that when we go astray there are consequences in the choices we make.
I truly loved and enjoyed this story. I wished that it didn't end too soon. I can't wait to see what she comes out with next.
My thanks for a copy of this book.
I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.

Her family has long been cursed. Her father is the latest to be incarcerated, but he abandoned her when she was six months old and now that her mother has passed, Lexie Cain is alone, penniless, and homeless. Her mother’s legacy – a gold coin and 300-year-old letters signed by Stede Bonnet – offers her a slim hope. According to her mother, the pirate is a distant relative and pirates buried their treasure, didn’t they? With no other options open to her, Lexie heads to Charleston, South Carolina, hoping the etchings on the coin and clues in the letters will lead her to the trove.

Although his beloved son died in 1712 and four years have passed, Stede Bonnet is still haunted and tormented by the loss. He has a wife, other children, wealth, and a good reputation, but Barbados is more a prison than a home. His only saving grace is the love of his life, Melody Rogers, but she is not his wife and must now accompany her father to Charles Town where he will endeavor to save the souls of the pirates and other scoundrels living there. Stede’s only option is to leave his life behind and go on the account. Perhaps plundering will gain him a new fortune on which he and Melody can live one day soon. To that end, he builds a pirate ship, hires a crew, and sets sail. But he is a soldier, not a sailor, and gaining the crew’s respect proves a difficult and perilous task.

Barret Johnson, a handsome history professor at Charleston Southern University, feels truly blessed. He has a family, comes from money, has a job, and is working on a new book about Stede Bonnet that might garner him an award that will allow him to continue his research on South Carolina pirates. The woman with a tattoo who barges into his office irritates him. He doesn’t believe a word Lexie says, but if there’s even a slim chance that the letter she shows him is authentic, he must pursue this new avenue of research.

Lexie thinks Barret is arrogant and the less contact she has with him, the better – but she needs his help to understand her ancestor’s writings. No one else knows as much as he does about Bonnet, but Barret is not the only one interested in the letters. Someone is stalking her. Then someone breaks into her apartment. Barret comes to her rescue, and the more time he’s with her, the more of an enigma she becomes. She has so little, but goes out of her way to help others even less fortunate than herself. He’s determined to protect her, even when her stalker proves that he is willing to do anything and harm anyone, especially those closest to her, to get the letters and the coin.

This inspirational romance will captivate readers with its two parallel love stories. One takes place in present-day Charleston, the other in the past. The outcomes differ, but Tyndall deftly contrasts the differences between those who have and those who have not. She does an excellent job portraying Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet, weaving a plausible tale that fills in the blanks that history has left of their association. Bonnet may be an ineffective pirate and not necessarily likeable, but readers will sympathize with his predicament. Lexie’s and Barret’s emotional struggles pull at the heartstrings in a deftly woven love story that will become a cherished favorite.

Whoo boy...I struggled with this one.

Let me start off by saying that I adore MaryLu Tyndall. Her books are something so unique and rare in the modern Christian Fiction world, and they are often purely fascinating to read.

But. This one had problems, and I really struggled to finish. The characters had the potential to be great, but on the whole, Steede and Lexie deeply annoyed me, and Barret's character fell flat. Lexie was mad for no good reason and had the biggest attitude basically throughout the entire book, and Steede was basically the scum of the earth. The man left his wife and children to play pirate, and while his romance with Melody was supposed to be sweet (I guess??), I couldn't abide either of them. Just because he paid for his family's upkeep, doesn't make adultery any less adultery. And yeah, at the end *SPOILERS* he came to repentance, it felt too much like, "I'll do what I want all my life, but now that I'm about to die, I'll change." I'm glad he did, but there was so much about his character that I disliked.

Barret was...perfect? His quick turnaround from disdain to fascination/obsession with Lexie felt a little unbelievable and his excuse for getting involved with a non-believer: "I bet I'm here to help save her." I.E. recipe for disaster. There are very good reasons for God calling believers not to get involved with unbelievers, and the token, "Oh, I'm strong enough to keep myself faithful even when pursuing a relationship in direct opposition to the commandments. And! I will draw them to the faith, not the other way around" was super disappointing. Of course, it worked out in the end, though.

Can I just make a quick note here: So Barret is constantly taking Lexie out to crazy-expensive restaurants and buying her whatever she wants there (and he does things like this repeatedly, always pushing her to do things she doesn't want to do--wouldn't he be more considerate by doing some things she might actually be comfortable with?? Idk, maybe that's just me.), and they make a big deal out of the fact that Lexie has this enormous appetite...when she is literally just eating a *normal* amount of food. It was weird. That's all.

Also, the police are downright useless throughout the story. I mean, call me crazy, but I would have expected some kind of effort to protect someone who has been *repeatedly* accosted and threatened??

The storyline was cool, and it's so neat that the pirate story was based on real-life events. The mystery, romance, and of course, the faith elements were good, but so many things felt off about this book that I was left just trying to get it finished.

I hate that I wasn't able to leave a positive review for this book when it had so much potential, and while it may be perfectly enjoyable to another reader, this one simply missed the mark for me. That will NOT however, keep me from trying future MaryLu Tyndall reads. :)

Note: I received a copy of this book for FREE, and a positive review was not required.

Treasure of a book

There are so many aspects of this book I loved. I’m not usually a fan of more than 2 character POV books so I avoided reading it for a long time but am so glad I read it.
Several parts of the novel were profound & something we could all learn from.
When Barret admits to not even seeing the homeless & asks how to tell if they are sincere or scamming for drug $, Lexie’s statement struck me; “I don’t care…I’m going to do all I can to help other women in that situation. If she scammed me, that’s on her.”
Another that I look at today on things gone wrong in the world we live in is this quote, “It was the thing of romance novels, chivalry of days long ago, knights and ladies, and all the things women’s liberation taught this generation of females to avoid, to disavow, to spit on. She’d always embrace the notion that women could do anything a man could do, that they didn’t need a man to protect them. But for some reason, here in his strong arms, she felt safe, loved, cherished even, and she wouldn’t want it any other way.”
Another is how good this novel expresses coming to the Lord in a way that could benefit so many people, as MaryLu has also done so well in other novels as well. I truly love how well she can express and get to the heart of things we all need to learn and grow in.

I have been reading MaryLu Tyndall's books for over 10 years, but out of all of her books, I really like the books that are set on pirate ships, as this one is! This book was particularly interesting to me because it was a time-slip novel. Tyndall did an excellent job of maintaining the present-day story while "slipping" back in time to the pirate's story. I really appreciated the craftsmanship of the story and the way you jumped back in time through reading letters, just like the characters in the book were doing! I also liked finding out that the story was based on a real pirate and that the author stayed true to his story. What a fun way to learn more history!

The story was woven so beautifully. I believe you will fall in love with both the present-day and the historical stories in this book.

Lastly, I love how so many of Tyndall's books weave a thread of redemption throughout the stories. This book has a truly beautiful ending. I hope you will take the time to pick up this story and discover what the Timeless Treasure is all about!

I absolutely loved this story and could not put it down. This is my first book by this author, but it definitely won’t be my last. Originally I had chosen this book because I needed both a book about pirates and a book with a body of water on the cover for a couple of my reading challenges. I had heard good things about the author’s books, and this also covered another challenge for a book with a treasure hunt.
The book gripped me from the beginning, and I was quite intrigued with the possible hidden pirate treasure.
I’ve been a huge fan of dual timeline books recently, so that was another point FOR the book. I loved that the author segued from the present timeline to the past timeline, in the 1700’s when Lexie and Barret were reading the letters of Captain Bonnet, the pirate, and Lexie’s far off ancestor.
I enjoyed learning more about Captain Bonnet and his exploits that we saw from his point of view. I also found it quite intriguing that the notorious pirate Blackbeard was a part of this tale.
I loved the present day story that was filled with adventure, mystery, danger, suspense, friendship, and love. Additionally, there was a thread of faith throughout. There was the importance of listening to the nudging of the Spirit and trusting in Christ, instead of choosing to follow one’s own path.
Definitely a book I highly recommend.

Extraordinary, outstanding book!

Marylu Tyndall never fails to disappoint her readers. This book you will have a hard time putting down, even if you need sleep!
This story is about a young woman, Lexi, who has been hurt her whole life. A young woman who feels like she doesn't belong anywhere...lost. But when she starts reading the letters of a pirate from 300 years ago, her life changes for that pirate is an ancestor! Was there a map? A hidden treasure?
Barret Johnson, a history professor becomes involved with reading these letters with Lexi. After all, he had been studying this pirate's life and with those letters, that book he had been dreaming about would come to life.
But when two men attack Lexi and stabs Barret for the letters, their lives become more complicated.
Timeless is not only an adventurous, suspenseful, head-turning book, but also one that gives hope. That hope is His timeless treasure.

better than the “she walks is power” series

I like see the return to pirate stories. I feel like Tyndall has fallen into a trap of redeeming all the villains. I first realized it, reading Charity’s Cross. I too am a Christian and believe God can and will save the rankest sinner. However, when there’s no villain in the story it feels like the ending is too neat.
From a literary perspective, it’s so unsatisfying. Guy gets girl, history in perspective, and everyone is headed to heaven. Sure I’d like everyone to be saved, but that’s not the world we’re in. Even the “bad guys” in the modern portion were so one dimensional. They didn’t scare me, they didn’t make me feel anything. They were caricature villains.
Where’s the villains from the Redemption? Or the British officers from the war of 1812? Please revisit those.

Not great.

I finished it but only because I skimmed a lot. This was not my favourite of Ms. Tyndall's books.
Every character was a weak caricature with no development. The heroine was the rough girl with a heart of gold. All the "Christians" were judgemental hypocrites who kept bringing up the rough girl's physical appearance. Apparently tattoos are still taboo in some churches so that point had to be harped on some. Oh and wearing jeans to church! The horror! Seriously what church are you going to nowadays where anyone cares?
And the modern characters kept exclaiming things like: "Sweet malarkey" and "Wowzie". I have never in my life heard anyone say either of those phrases.

Disappointed

I’ve read all of MaryLu’s early books and they are outstanding. Because of them she was a favorite author. But I’ve been disappointed with the last couple of books, they just aren’t up to her original standard. This one was a bit cheesy and I stopped reading halfway through. In addition, the use of old world terms like “‘twas” and “mayhap” and others, are over-used and not really necessary. Kind of distracting actually. I’m disappointed that her books are not as good as her past stories.

Loved this book!

I'll admit that I wasn't sure about reading another pirate romance just now. I've just read 5. But I am glad I took the chance on this one.

In some ways, it felt a bit cheesy, but may I'm just a tad bit cynical.

Overall, it was the perfect blend of clean romance and piratical fun. I loved the added bits of a mystery and the tie-in with Stede Bonnet. Pure genius!

Absolutely Amazing

I’m always thrilled when I get a 2 in 1 story. Especially when you have a mystery that takes you journey back and forth in time. Timeless Treasure is an absolutely amazing romance that shows us the most timeless treasure of all.

Another great read

This was a fun book. I like how the book goes between the past and the present. I especially like the themes of people who have been hurt by those claiming to know Jesus and the pretentiousness and self-righteousness of others.

Wowza, I could have read something different

The story of Lexie and Barrett was okay. It could have been better without words like "gadzooks" and "wowza". The language was a bit ridiculous.

A thread between two worlds--the present and the past--brings clashes between the privileged and the poor. A story of second chances as a pirate and a professor vie for the love of special women. The reader is pulling for a happy ending even amid the darkness of the world around them.

Fascinating; a story within a story; highly entertaining. I may be a little too cynical when I admit that I found the tale of the central pirate figure a bit hard to believe; however, it was still fun to read.

An adventure in history paired with a romantic struggle, that is what TIMELESS TREASURE by MaryLu Tyndall is all about.

To say Lexi Cain is down on her luck would be a vast understatement. Her life has been one difficulty after another but losing her mom might just be the icing on the cake. Feeling utterly alone, the only thing she has left of her mother’s is an old wooden chest. What Lexi doesn’t know is how some aged letters and a coin found in that chest is going to change the trajectory of her future. Realizing these letters could lead to the treasure of the infamous pirate, Stede Bonnet—a possible distant relative—Lexi has no choice but to ask Professor Barret Johnson for help. Though Professor Johnson is the epidemy of everything she hates – wealth, affluence, the perfect family, a pillar of the community—it doesn’t change the fact that she needs his help deciphering the letters.

Professor Barret Johnson teaches South Carolina history at Charleston University. However, his pet project at the moment is writing a book on the pirates of Charleston. When Lexi Cain barges into his office, waving around letters that might have been penned by notorious pirate Stede Bonnet, he is more than interested. But what surprises Barret even more is the feelings that start to develop for this woman who is everything he is not.

Working together, Lexi and Barret read the letters looking for any clues that might lead to Bonnet’s hidden treasure. Though Barret is skeptical the treasure even exists, he changes his mind when Lexi becomes the target of break-ins and physical assaults. Someone wants the letters as much as Barret does, and they’re willing to do anything to take them from Lexi. Now, not only does Barret want to secure the letters for his research and their historical value, but he also feels the need to keep Lexi safe, even though she is resistant to his help. Knowing her independent spirit is an outpouring of the difficult life she has led; Barret doesn’t give up. Slowly, he attempts to break down Lexi’s walls and challenge her to let him in.

TIMELESS TREASURE is historical, adventurous, romantic, and actually provides the reader with two stories—the torrid love affair between Stede Bonnet and Melody Rogers in the 1800s, and the current relationship between Lexi Cain and Barret Johnson. Though Stede and Melody were kept apart by circumstances, Lexi and Barret are thrown together by fate. I did find the spiritual impact a little soft and at times stilted, but it did not minimize my love for the story. However, what I did appreciate was the research Ms. Tyndall undertook in order to make this novel both factual and believable. Of course, she took creative license in crafting her story, nevertheless, it all blended together into a captivating tale that shows how resilient love is, whether it’s spanning the vastness of the seas or the gap between social standings in our world today.

Thank you, MaryLu, for another great adventure! I’m glad I went along for the ride!

This novel was provided to me in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

If you’re a fan of pirate history, The Secret (fans of Josh Gates Expedition Unknown know what I’m talking about!) or Ancestry, this stand alone novel is a must read! Timeless Treasure is a time slip novel where a woman from modern day is related to a real pirate from the 1700’s, Stede Bonnet, and tries to find his hidden treasure.

I’ve read every book by MaryLu Tyndall and I’m pretty sure this is the first time she’s used a historical figure as a main character. Since her pirate stories got me hooked on her writing, I feel there’s no better author who could pull it off better than Tyndall! Of course, at the end of the novel you can read about what was fact and what was fiction, but all around, I loved how it came across in the story. It was very neat knowing parts of Stede Bonnet’s life really happened, but it was also cool to see his story reflect and help Lexie through her own trials.

Speaking of main characters Lexie Cain and Barret Johnson. Two characters couldn’t be more unlike each other if they tried! I’m a big fan of “compare and contrast,” so a story like this is right up my ally. Lexie lived on the bad side of town and didn’t have two pennies to rub together and Barret came from a wealthy family with more money than he knew what to do with. In their friendship, both characters faced things that made them question past experiences and sometimes, re-learn what it meant to be poor or wealthy. Woven into a thick plot, this really complemented the book and took the depth to a whole different level.

This book had a similar feel as the author’s 2017 release, “When Angels Cry”, just without an end times/rapture setting. In fact, if you enjoyed that book, you’ll love how the author expanded and went more in depth with themes of compassion, witness and eternal focus in Timeless Treasure. As much as I loved the history and plot in the story, by far, the best takeaway from this novel is the need to be intentional and active by spreading the love of Christ to the lost and helping those in need.

Conclusion: I’ve always loved MaryLu Tyndall’s books because of her ability to put a lot of action, emotion and edge of your seat suspense in her writing. On that front, this novel doesn’t disappoint! There are some bad guys in the modern story line and of course good ole Blackbeard himself makes an appearance in the historical sections. But, I will say this book was about a lot more than just a good suspenseful plot. There was a chill approach to the romance and overall sweet tone to the deeper themes of the book. That being said, I really liked the change. Timeless Treasure emphasized the need to be real, compassionate and get outside of your comfort zone. Basically, everything you could want in a story - great plot, opposites attract kinda romance, God centered theme - was in this book. Another great story by MaryLu Tyndall!

I'm still collecting my thoughts...more to come...but WOW!

Okay, it took a while but thoughts are gathered. There was so much to love about this book and so much to ponder. MaryLu has grown over the past several years and it shows very much so in her books. There's a blossoming effect in her newer novels. Please don't think for one second I'm discounting her other books! They are my go-to reads. These newer ones really probe and slice at your preconceived notions and lay open your soul. They are deeper and so beautiful! Now...the review.
Lexie is a non-believer in every sense but her actions. Prof. Pirate (forgot his name momentarily & I love this nickname (Barret)) is a "traditional" Christian. She's broke without a degree and alone in the world. He's a successful history professor with the love & support of a huge family.
But they need each other and there is where our story really begins.
Lexie has found some old letters from a infamous pirate hidden among her deceased mother's belongings. She needs them to be authenticated in order to assure herself there's pirate treasure to be found! The money would change her world. And since she's got a HUGE heart, she intends to help others who are less fortunate with the "family" money.
Barret is writing a dissertation on the Bonnet pirate and cannot believe a bedraggled woman with letters from said pirate are both real & earnest. But both are. Lexie will turn Barret's world upside down and right side out!
Both characters start off as using each other. However, as the plot flows, turns out there are nefarious people looking for Lexie's treasure and only the letters hold the answers to the questions everyone seek.
I could give more of the story and details away but suffice to say, the story is an adventure of self-discovery, discovering G-d, learning what it truly means to be godly in more than just words, pirate treasure, the love between the pirate & his lady, kidnapping & recovery, and so much more.

This book is a plethora of tiny, hidden truths. Open your heart and see them all!!

I was honored with an advanced reading of the book. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Ms. Tyndall. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Engaging story of love and adventure on the high seas and in modern times!

I've read books by this author before but with this latest one by Marylu Tyndall, I had to stop and write a review. This story is rich with history as well as adventure and romance. I was hooked right on the first chapter. Lexie Cain, the heroine of the story had just lost her mother to cancer and is now all alone in the world. The one thing she had left from her mother is a very old chest that had been past down generations full of letters from a pirate ancestor, Stede Bonnet. Lexie believed that if she could find the treasure that the legendary pirate had hidden, it would change the family curse that has affected her family for two centuries of criminal behaviour. In the chest there were letters from Bonnet to the love of his life but Lexie needed a historian who could help her authenticate and figure out the treasure's whereabouts. Professor Barrett Johnson, the hero, helps her muddle through the letters while he writes a book on Stede Bonnet in order to gain recognition on his own merit, not his wealthy family's. Together they decipher Bonnet's letters while finding themselves in danger as they discover that they are not the only ones who are after Bonnet's treasure.
Very well-written and engaging. Marylu is definitely on the top of my list of favourite authors as she weaves in a story of forgiveness, faith and redemption. Full of action, romance and of tales of the high seas, I highly recommend reading!

Timeless Treasure by MaryLu Tyndall had me intrigued from the first page. It tied the history of Lexi’s family all the way back to pirate Stede Bonnet. Both stories parrelled throughout the book. I felt as if I could close my eyes and picture everything going on with their stories. I could see the surroundings, hear the sounds, and smell what they did. I loved watching how both Lexi and Stede struggled through decisions they made to the ultimate end where they discovered the only thing (or Treasure) that really matters is having a relationship with Christ Jesus. I would choose a page to finish for the day, then get to that page and want to see what happened next. It was definitely a book I didn’t want to put down. I could feel the emotions all the characters were feeling, along with the strong drawing of Lexi to Stede. MaryLu Tyndall did a great job at grounding her historical story with factual information, and explaining it at the end of the book. The flow of the book was great, and made it easy to read.. The storyline was easy to understand. “I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are my own.”

In typical and amazing Marylu Tyndall fashion, Timeless Treasure is a can’t-put-down, gripping and wonderful read!
I found it a bit different than her other books, but I love how normal and down to earth the main characters, Lexie and Barret, are. I found myself rooting for both of them from the very beginning, and I enjoyed trying to figure out the mystery of the letters and coin that were introduced at the beginning of the novel.
I really appreciate the fact that Marylu’s books don’t have the same types of characters in each book, like so many other Christian writers. I never know what to expect when I open one of her books, and because of that, I can look forward to each one!
Her writing is compelling, emotional, and real. If you haven’t read any of her other books, Timeless Treasure is a great one to start with! You’ll fall in love with Lexie and Barret and you won’t be able to wait to find out what happens to them. I highly recommend this book and all of Marylu’s others books! She’s my favorite!!

MaryLu’s newest pirate tale takes a different trip than her usual, but no less enjoyable! The time-slip plots wove so seamlessly together, creating a great over-arching story. To be honest, it took me a second to get into this one. Mostly because I was so annoyed at all three main characters. Like, none of them had any lick of sense! But, MaryLu is amazing as an author, so once I got past the first couple of chapters where I wanted to knock some sense into several heads, I really found the characters so sweet and endearing, and had to know what happened to them. Each character’s growth was so beautiful, less of a major change, but more of an opening of eyes and expansion of what’s already there. And of course it’s not a MaryLu without a deep spiritual message of learning to follow God rather than the world, and I won’t give away the ending, but it was beautiful. All together, this was a surprising, but no less enjoyable, pirate tale from this amazing author, and one I thoroughly recommend.

I love MaryLu Tyndall’s books; they captivate you in so many ways. They pull at the strings of your heart and take you on great adventures. Timeless Treasure will not disappoint you. Submerge yourself into one of her most exciting tales. Taking actual historical people and events she creates stories of intrigue and romance drawing you in so completely that the characters become your friends and you’re sorry when the story ends. Her deep understanding of God’s love and character flow through the story. Truths that can help us as she uses them to teach and guide Lexie and Barret through the many challenges they must overcome.

Does the past affect the present? Will Lexie find what she’s truly looking for? Is the professor trying to help her or himself? And, why are they after her? You’ll be engrossed once again if you’ve read MaryLu’s books and if you haven’t, you're in for several hours of pure enjoyment.
