Kohl Family

Unbreakable: Olivia & Nathan

Rate this book
Nathan Kohl doesn’t flinch at threats. As head of security for the First Lady, he’s faced danger before. But Olivia isn’t just another assignment—she’s running from the kind of man Nathan despises. A powerful senator. An abuser. A husband who turned her home into a prison and her son into a mirror of his cruelty.

This isn’t politics. This is personal.

She’s terrified but determined. He’s steady, controlled, and everything she doesn’t believe she deserves. But Nathan sees her—every scar, every ounce of strength—and he can’t walk away.

Every day with her pulls him deeper, blurring the line between duty and desire. Every threat makes him more certain he’ll do anything—sacrifice everything—to keep her and her children safe.

Loving her isn’t optional. It’s inevitable. And Nathan knows one truth with absolute certainty: anyone who tries to harm her will go through him first.

**Unbreakable contains sensitive subjects, including domestic violence and references to physical and sexual assault. I recognize these themes may be painful for some readers. Please use your discretion in deciding if this story is right for you.

C.R. Riley

C. R. Riley doesn’t believe in rules when it comes to romance. Her books are bold, emotional, and unapologetically steamy, spanning tropes like enemies to lovers, grumpy/sunshine, secret pasts, and forbidden attraction. What ties them all together? Deep emotional connection, crackling sexual tension, and characters who love like it’s the only thing keeping them alive.

Writing across sub-genres, C. R. thrives in the chaos of big emotions, tough choices, and the kind of love that doesn’t come easy—but always feels earned. Her goal is simple: give readers stories they feel in their chest and remember long after the final page.

“𝑵𝒂𝒕𝒆,” 𝒔𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒉𝒊𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒏𝒂𝒎𝒆.
“𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒅𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒆?”
“𝑳𝒐𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒚𝒐𝒖, 𝑳𝒊𝒗.” 𝑯𝒆 𝒌𝒊𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒔 𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒘𝒂𝒚 𝒅𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒏𝒆𝒄𝒌. “𝑰 𝒂𝒎 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒐𝒏𝒍𝒚 𝑰 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒉𝒐𝒘.”

This story was everything.
It made me cry in the start and then made me hope for a beautiful relationship and lastly made me smile throughout the story.

**Verbal, physical and sexual abuse mentioned in the book**

Nathan is the ideal man, no doubt. I mean how can someone be so perfect!? He's doting, understanding, patient, mature yet childish when he has to be, 1648/10 sexy, handsome and smart. Like ummm, you are husband material!
Olivia is strong--- both mentally and emotionally, caring, loving and a fighter thoroughly.

While reading, sometimes it felt like a narrator is telling the story and sometimes it was from different characters' point of view. Felt a bit weird initially, but not afterwards. I love how Liv became stronger and stronger and became the woman she is, I love how Nate was always there to protect & support her and not make desicions instead and I love how the kids came out of their shell and/or changed for good. At some points of time I felt like the story was being stretched (mostly at the end) and some information provided which wasn't very important or needed. We meet all the family members from both families along with many more characters here.

Have I cried for Liv? -- Yes.
But have I cried because of Nate's kindness, love, care and amazingness? --Hell Yes!

No doubt a good read which will always make you believe and hope for good.
Would give this 3.5-4 stars⭐

Warning before you read this one, get ready for an emotional ride, in a good way. Danger, drama, and chemistry of the characters pull you in and keeps you moving along all through the book.

Olivia is moving on from an abusive relationship with a US Senator. She starts to rebuild her life and herself along the way. Her life gets turned upside down when she sees her own son taking on aspects of his father and knows it is time to leave.

Nathan is a heck of a guy to have around as head of security for the First Lady. He is so different than what Olivia is used to, but he is perfect for her.

Overall the book is wonderfully written, and the world created is very believable. I found the writing smooth and easy to read. You will not go wrong, adding this book to your TBR list.

I did receive an ARC for an honest review.

This book has probably been the most overwhelming and emotional read of the year.
The author has been amazing for treating a very hard and difficult subject, the domestic violence, in a striking way, that makes you want to embrace and protect Olivia and her children.
Nat is an amazing character, so strong and powerful and loving. They do really deserve their happy ending. I broke up in tears…
Can’t miss it!

An unbreakable bond

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I am so glad I got to read this series and I can't wait to get to the next one. The Kohl's are an amazing group and family. C.R. Riley does an amazing job at keeping the main characters front and center but bringing in previous character's so there are no questions.

Nathan is your boy next door nice guy but certainly knows when he needs to be tough. He is also a protecter and so very loyal. This is great for his job, but with his long hours he has rules so no one gets attached. But what happenes when he gets attached to the one person he shouldn't, the one he isn't supposed to?
"I didn't expect anything..." pg. 183 and the great thing he didn't. Something that not a lot of peyote follow through on

Olivia is a victim of domestice violence, she never thinks of leaving until she sees what it is doing to her kids, what they are becoming. With strength she doesn't know exists can she truly become a new version of herself one she loves? Can she save herself and her children from the life her family has lived for generations? She is also the person, especially in her family who took care of everyone, even if that meant showing your little sister what happens and he get hurt

"Except that isn't what Olivia did. She didn't hide the bruises from me." Pg. 193

C.R. Riley did a fantastic job of using experiences to take the characters where they needed to go. She also made sure not to solely focus on domestic violence but enough to bring awareness and leave.

This is one of those books that stay with you long after you have read the last page. It was a raw, emotionally charged story that will overwhelm and touch your heart. The author touches on the difficult and painful topic of domestic abuse and brings forth a powerful story handled with care and sensitivity. It's a story of strength and courage and about not letting the pain and betrayal control you, but taking control of your life. The strength and resilience Olivia shows is beautifully portrayed and Nate's kindness, caring, and protection of her is heartmelting. It's a story full of love, determination, and courage and it pulled me in from the very start and I was invested in the story till the end. This is a talented author that definitely knows how to bring the story and characters to life. Simply wonderful and amazing - I'm so glad I got the opportunity to read this. I can't wait to read more books by this author.

I received a complimentary advanced reader's copy from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review.

This is one of my favorite books of 2020. It is so raw, beautiful, overwhelming, lovely and emotional. Although a very difficult topic to read/write about, CR did an outstanding job bringing these characters to life. I wanted to reach inside the book and hug each one of these characters. I was literally crying at the end of the book...very few books bring me to tears.

Olivia’s upbringing and marriage have been very toxic and it’s having a very negative impact on her children and herself. She finds a way to break free with the help of a very prominent person. Olivia and her children are shown love and care like they have never experienced. Nathan’s upbringing and family life is a complete 180 from what Olivia has experienced. With his friendship, love, and dedication to her and her children they all begin to heal and find the true meaning of love. Nathan’s friends and family are fantastic and also help in the healing process.

I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Beautiful

This is a beautifully crafted and dramatically crafted piece of writing. Not only is it sensitive to the issues raised in it, but it also holds a great deal of power in its portrayal. Olivia strength shines through in her worst moments, and the security Nate offers her is delightful. This is not about a battered wife. This is about a strong woman standing up for herself and her children when one person she trusts offers her help. The love that blossoms between them is incredibly sweet and respectful. But once they have each other, all bets are off and the scenes are sexy as... Well done, another fab read.

Another great story in the Kohl family series. I absolutely loved Olivia and Nathan.

This is a bodyguard, friends to lovers story that you don’t want to kiss. Olivia had to escape and recover from an incredibly traumatic marriage and Nate was the sexy body that protected her and helped her find her confidence again. It was magical to follow along with her growth and for their unique yet passionate relationship to develop.

This one had me in the ringer of emotions. Ecstatic, stressed, swooning, fanning myself, happy tears and all that is in between.

Extremely well written and I am very much looking forward to part three, Caleb and Faith’s story.

I loved this book! The characters are beautifully written and I was invested in them from the very beginning. Nate! I don’t even know where to begin! He is strong and powerful without being overbearing. I think I’m in love! Then there’s Olivia who is strong and resilient. She goes through a lot so you can’t help but root for her to get her happy ending.

C.R. Riley has quickly become a one click buy for me. This series is by far my favorite of hers. I can’t wait for the next one!

Holy smokes!!! All I can say is that CR is an awesome writer! I felt every single emotion coming from Nate and Olivia. Oh and grrrr, I really don’t like her ex…. at all!!!! When an author can make you feel all the emotions coming from their characters, then you have truly found a gem. I loved this story so much!!!! Family really is what you make it, not bloodlines. I’m running, not walking, to grab book 3 in this series because I’m officially addicted! Highly recommended

Unbreakable is emotional, heartbreaking, joyful and heartfelt. C.R.Riley writes about domestic violence with sensitivity, revealing the truth of abuse, pain and scandal in Olivia’s marriage to a US senator. The characters are beautifully written. Olivia is determined and courageous, fighting to give her children a better life. While Nathan is strong, protective and reliable. This was another great read by C.R. This is the second book in the Kohl family Series, and I can’t wait to hear more about this family in the future. I highly recommend this book.

Return of the Kohl family. This one centers around Nathan Kohl. When he is unexpectedly thrust into the life of Olivia Valentine when she reaches out to the 1st lady for help to leave her current husband. What unfolds is a solid story of how Olivia fights against everything to give her kids and herself a better life then the one they are currently living. And once clear she finds that the other side can be everything she would have wanted for her and her kids.
The characters are also solid, you get a little more of Johannah, but also learn about the people Nathan and Olivia are close to. They all flow into the story and make you hate them or love them as the story unfolds. This book was fantastic and a great follow up to the 1st one in the series.

C. R. Riley’s second installment of the Kohl Family series, gives us the story of Nate, head of security for the First Lady, Olivia, the much abused wife of a US Senator. When Olivia fears for the welfare of her children, she turns to the First Lady for help and finds herself placed in the hands of Nate to assure the safety of both her children and herself until she can permanently separate herself from had domineering and violent husband. The story takes you through Olivia’s healing and her budding relationship with Nate. Wow wow wow

Great job CR Riley with this book. I loved this book so much and I was sad when it ended. Nathan and Olivia are so good together but realizing that is a little harder for them. This is another one where you need popcorn with wine or coffee and settle in for one heck of a story. I love how she takes hard subjects and adds a light hearted feel to them. They are still serious but you will get a chuckle when you least expect it 😉. Fantastic job with this book. On to book 3. 5💥 Must Read and you will want Nathan as your newest book boyfriend!

I absolutely loved it. Liv, had spent her whole life trapped in abuse. After witnessing what this lifestyle was doing to her two young children, she decided it was time to escape. Nate, who i adored, assisted in getting Liv established in a new life. During this time they both fall in love, and she learns what it means to be genuinely loved by a man.
The story had a lot of feels, suspense, and some laughs.

Excellent read. If you love fast action romance entrenched with govt agencies and super secret agents this is your book! I loved the chemistry between the characters and the fact that the female was really one of the best undercover spies. This book had me on edge of my seat and truly I had to stop reading for half a day. It was so filled with action and suspense and some hot romance. This is your book.
