The sexiest man Lauren MacKinnon knows also happens to be her best friend. He’s six-foot-four of masculine perfection. He’s smart, and funny, and has one of the biggest hearts around. And she has no idea that he’s completely in love with her.
Theo Prescott, however, is in denial. Or at least, he’s trying to be. See, he’s not exactly boyfriend material. After growing up in a volatile household and now as a successful divorce lawyer, not to mention his utterly disastrous dating track record, he’s come to accept the fact that he sucks at love, and he’s not willing to risk his friendship with Lauren. Who is gorgeous and awesome and probably perfect for him. But he’s terrified of breaking her heart. No matter his feelings, she’s his best friend, and that’s where she needs to stay.
Because there are rules that come with having a best friend. Rules like no kissing, no thinking about each other naked, no having sex. And no matter what, no falling in love.
But one by one, Theo and Lauren are going to break the rules…

Friends to lovers is a favourite trope of mine and when it’s done well, it’s fabulous.
This was done really, really well with some delicious tension, fabulous chemistry, witty, sparky banter and likeable characters. The smut was hot and plentiful and he had a dirty mouth. The wider circle of friends and siblings were also interesting and quirky and I was just really into reading it which is what I long for in everything I pick up.
The only reason it’s not a five is that the conflict was resolved a little too easily and swiftly, the author had done such a great job of creating a complex conflict that built up nicely then, idk, it was all tied up in a page or two. It felt a bit rushed.
Complete story but part of a series with recurring characters. Recommended for fans of friends to lovers.
*Thanks to the publisher via NetGalley for the arc.*
We start Tara's new Prescotts series with divorce lawyer; Theo, who incidentally we met in the last book of her Dallas Longhorns series as he is one of the heroines brothers. There's a little crossover with this one with a family wedding towards the end which I liked as I am hoping we get more from that series in 2021.
Anyway back to Theo and Lauren, Best friends for over a decade, who have never stepped into the friends-with-benefits territory in all that time, something you discover very quickly that they are both regretful about. Theo has his own baggage in regards to relationships and commitment, and Lauren is worried she will lose his friendship if they did take that step because of his issues with relationships.
He wanted her. He cared about her... He was probably in love with her. But he couldn't be the guy she deserved...
I am sure you can guess the theme of the story once the lines have been crossed, and where the inevitable conflict will come from, but Stupid Love was well written, I loved getting to briefly meet the rest of Theo's brothers as well, and Tara has set the series up for them to get their own books. Plenty of sexy-times and enjoyable shenanigans in-between, so if you are looking for an easy going read to take you into the New Year, you can go far wrong grabbing this one!

I'm happy for stories like these, entertaining and satisfying tropey goodness. Although predictable, Stupid Love checked all the boxes of what I'm looking for in a contemporary romance, two easy to like romance interests, a solid cast of secondary characters, great chemistry, easy banter, some minor angst and a whole lot of steam. The author balanced it all pretty nicely, I read this almost in one sitting and I'm very much looking forward to read about the rest of the Prescott Brothers. This is currently free on AMZ!

4.5 stars - If you previously read Aerin & Javier's story as part of the Dallas Longhorns series, you know that Aerin & Theo's parents are beyond toxic which messed all of their children up to varying degrees. (If you haven't read it, that's ok. It's a great book but unnecessary to enjoy this one.) The fact that Theo has commitment issues comes as no surprise.
How things with Lauren unfold are heated, silly, and overdue with plenty of dirty talk, a commanding alpha, and a loving friendship. When things hit the wall, though, let's just say that the waterworks were at a steady trickle for several chapters.
On a lighter note, I LOVED the safe word that Theo picked out for Lauren! It's absolutely hilarious! There are other truly funny moments throughout which lightens the overall feel of the book. I loved the characters - well, except for the toxic cell donors - and can't wait to see more of the Prescott brothers and cousins! I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
My year is sadly not starting with good recs for you guys 😭 When I read the synopsis of this book I got super excited cause best friends to lovers as you know is my favourite trope and this book and especially the writing didn't do the justice this trope deserved.
First the writing style was simply not good, all the pop culture references and the cringy dialogues and sex scenes didn't do it for me. I loved some of the characters and I wish I could say that I'm gonna continue the series but the writing is a big thing to me I simply couldn't enjoy the book......
So Lauren and Theo had this really cute best friends thing going on, I enjoyed their domestic moments and how she gave him some space to adjust....what I didn't like was how these people were ready to ruin their dreams jobs for love I MEAN yes this is a romance book but please do not give up your dreams for love ??? do the long distance thing we can't have anything but please think with your head.
I really liked Aspen as a character and I feel that maybe if the writer could fix her writing style I would 100% enjoy her book !!!
This had the potential to become my next IT series but the writing was bad and felt rush, didn't feel a deep connection with the characters just a wasted plot to be honest. :(
Updated to add: The draft is done! Giveaways and ARCs are coming!
Stupid Love is now available for pre-order!
Theo and Lauren are best friends and have been for over ten years. He's super jaded--his dysfunctional family, plus his career as a family law attorney have left him believing that love isn't real. But Lauren feels differently, mostly because she's pretty sure she's falling for her best friend... This is a friends to lovers romantic comedy with lots of laughs, super steamy sex, and a totally swoonworthy hero (I've loved writing Theo SO. MUCH).
You can pre-order your copy of Stupid Love from any of the links below.
I loved this friends to lovers romance. Theo and Lauren both had feelings for each other but were scared to act on it because they didn’t want to ruin their friendship. When their mutual friend has the idea of them trying to find the other a partner, this pushes them to start to explore how they really feel about each other. Their chemistry between them was so good. Loved them as a couple. This was a well written story that has wonderful characters that will pull you in and keep you interested from page one. Loved it. Can’t wait to read what is coming up next.
This was my first book by Tara Wyatt and she's made me a fan!! Stupid Love was an absolutely amazing friends-to-lovers book! I loved it so much, I devoured it in 4 1/2 hours!!
I fell in love with Theo and Lauren both separately and together. These two had me laughing and even had me shed a tear. Theo has so much emotional baggage from his past with this parents. And it doesn't help he's a divorce lawyer so that just adds another layer. I just wanted to give him a hug. Lauren is just a great person. She's such a good friend to everyone. She deserves to be loved completely and unconditionally. The chemistry between Theo and Lauren was off the charts! I really hope we get to continue to see a little more with them in future books because I wasn't ready for the story to end!
I can not wait to read the next Prescott brothers book!
I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a very sensual and steamy beginning to a new series! I have a feeling these Prescott brothers are going to be a handful. Theo is the youngest and a divorce attorney ... which makes him all the more cynical. Plus, his parents did a crap job of providing a good example of happily-ever-after. I just loved Lauren as she has this bright personality that never gives up. The chemistry between Theo and Lauren has always been undeniable to everyone who knows them ... but they only saw themselves as best friends. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was that I thought the ending was rushed ... there was a build-up through the whole story and then it was just resolved way too quickly. We also get a glimpse of the brothers that will have future books and I can't wait to read them! A fabulous start to a new series.
I read the other books in the series that precedes this and I liked them a lot. As that series progressed I felt the books getting lighter on emotional connection and heavier on sexual connection. STUPID LOVE seems to continue this trend.
The best part of Friends To Lovers (for me, anyway) is the glimpses of shared history. Peeks at a long-standing and deeply important friendship BEFORE sex was a factor. That is what makes the sexual connection that eventually happens that much better.
My issue with this book is that we get almost nothing by way of glimpses of the TEN YEAR LONG friendship between Lauren and Theo. No inside jokes. No stories of old adventures during the ridiculous college years when they met. No views into a deep caring beyond these two holding back hair while the other vomits. The history is the best part of Friends to Lovers and the history is kissing from this book.
Having said that, these two have some seriously sweet scenes that will melt your heart. Swoon-worthy moments. And HOT steamy scenes with dirty talk for dayyyys.
I so wish two of those steamy scenes had been cut (there are plenty of them) in favor of their shared history and the moments of friendship we never get a glimpse of.
RATING:⭐️⭐️⭐️ STEAM LEVEL: Rated NC-17
Thank you to the publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
It's always great to get in on the first book of a new series, and these Prescott brothers are going to be a handful, I can already tell. They’re all strong alphas who are a bit jaded when it comes to love, thanks to their parents. That just makes it all the more entertaining when they finally fall, and watching love pick them off one by one is the best kind of reading fun.
Theo, the divorce lawyer, is the first of the brothers to dip his toe into the relationship pool, and it's with his best friend, Lauren. They’ve been friends since college, and each has watched the other try and fail at relationships and been on hand to pick up the pieces when needed. Just when it looks like they might take their friendship to the next level, they have not only Theo’s baggage to deal with but also employment opportunities that could take them in different directions.
Friends to lovers is such a delicious trope because of all the unacknowledged attraction and tension before the hero and heroine get together, and boy, oh boy, is there ever a ton of undercurrent with Theo and Lauren! If you like a fun but heartfelt friends to lovers romance with a lot of steam, you'll love this one. But I’ll warn you, you’ll fall for all of these Prescott brothers and be eagerly awaiting the next book once you’ve read this one.
Thank you Tara for giving me chance to read your new series and my friends I gotta tell you I am glad that I gotta chance to read so grab a copy. So this is a friends to lovers books. If you have read her Dallas Longhorns books you got a a glimps of Theo in the last book, if not, then why not? You don't need to but they are a great series anywho back to this one. So as I mention Theo has known Lauren forevah and even though has always had a thing for her and her for him they have never gone to the friends with bennies thing, they never wanted to mess up their relationship. Theo felt like he couldn't be the guy she deserves and he is one of those guys with commitment and relationship issues, I mean the guy is a divorce lawyer so you know he comes with baggage especially with everything this guy sees all the time. He is scared and she is too and the laughs that you get from these too will be worth the time you dedicate to this book but when they get together boom, explosive! It was exciting to meet their families and friends which added fun and spice to the story and knowledge that this is just the beginning of a new series of more to come. Enjoy!
rcvd and ARC at no cost to author...voluntarily reviewed with my own thought and opinions.
Stupid Love is my first book by this author but it certainly won’t be my last! This is a sweet and steamy friends to lovers featuring Lauren and Theo, who’ve been best friends for 10 years. Lauren is an aspiring singer and Theo is a divorce lawyer(who distrusts love and marriage). After they set each other up on horrible dates and then go on a double date, with blind dates, they can’t deny their feelings for each other any longer. The build up and sexual tension was delicious y’all! Dare I say I almost wanted the longing to last a little longer?! But they were fantastic together so I can’t complain at all. I just loved these characters and the story. I love a good grand gesture moment and when Theo finally gets his head out of his ass, he had me swooning. Make sure you grab the extended epilogue by signing up for the authors newsletter! It was the perfect ending ♥️ I’m excited for the next installment of The Prescott’s series and hopefully a peek and what’s going on with Theo and Lo! I was provided an arc by the author to read and review.

Stupid Love is the first book that I've read by Tara Wyatt so I didn't know what to expect. Surprisingly, I enjoyed this book more than I expected. The entire story is a little bit predictable but sweet nevertheless. I truly liked the chemistry between Theo and Lauren where we can see how deep their connection truly is. Overall, the entire story is amusing yet emotional at the same time. I think Tara did a great job in delivering this story. Therefore, if you're a fan of friends to lovers trope, then this book is worth a read. Truly recommend it.
STUPID LOVE was a great start to a new series by Tara Wyatt! I'm a sucker for friends to lovers romances so this was a perfect match for me. I especially enjoyed Lauren; she's kind, up-beat, and knows her worth. She's always had feelings for Theo but knowing his commitment issues she's never risked losing his friendship by revealing her feelings. Theo also has feelings for Lauren but he's afraid to put a name to them and does everything he can to convince himself that he's not capable of loving someone and that Lauren deserves better.
When these two finally give into their feelings it's explosive and they were super hot together. Theo is one dirty talker and the closeness these two have from their friendship shifts to a lot of care in the bedroom. This was definitely a very sexy and steamy read! Of course nothing is easy and these two have their bumps along the way and boy did they squeeze my heart and create some really emotional moments.
I'm looking forward to more in this series because I really liked Lauren's friends and the Prescott brothers are certainly interesting.

Stupid Love is the first book in The Prescotts series. This book is the story of Theo Prescott and Lauren MacKinnon. This book is told from dual point of view. Theo and Lauren have been best friends for the past 10 years.
Theo Prescott is a divorce lawyer and has been through a lot when his parents divorced as well as past relationships, so he decided he never wanted to be in a relationship. Lauren is an aspiring musician, and is looking to settle down.
Feelings start to evolve, but Theo knows he can't be with her forever. So Lauren decides to they can be together but not be in a relationship. As time moves on the feelings evolve, but Theo is still questioning himself. Both have a potential job change and they need to discover if they want to stay together and work through their feelings, or if Theo's past will make them fall apart for good and they lose their friendship.
I really loved this story. I couldn't put it down. It had a lot of funny moments and had me hooked to see what happened next.
Best friends to lovers Slow burn Steamy sex scenes A slow burn friends to lover romance. Theo and Lauren were a perfect match and had an amazing foundation of friendship. They told each other everything, hung out together and had feelings for each other. But some jealousy comes into play and next thing you know it is over.
A strong storyline with great characters. It is a quick and easy read for sure. You can finish it in a single sitting. This is the first book I have read by this author and I enjoyed it. If you enjoy a slow burn romance or friends to lovers, this is an excellent choice for you. Steam level on this was about a 3 in my opinion.
The story told/explained too much about everyone else’s story than the main MCs. I don’t care about the entire Prescott family and their sister who is getting married without a prenup. I felt the first part was a set up for future books. Nonetheless, it lost my interest. Moving on. Get me interested in the main characters than explain everyone else’s plot. I found myself skimming. There were a lot of fillers. There was no groveling. She accepted his apology and took him within 5 minutes.
3.75/5 stars... this was a textbook example of friends to lovers. It had everything set up. Lauren and Theo had been best friends for years, and over time they slowly developed feelings for each other but didn't want the other to know out of fear of losing their friendship. A night of passion threatens to change that, and one of them compromises in what they want in order to keep the scale balanced (Lauren, because Theo has commitment issues he should have seen a therapist about years ago). Eventually, one of them has to make a decision that will force them to irrevocably go back to the way they were, even before their night of passion (Lauren, because she overhears Theo make a comment that she will ever only be his friend and because she is hurt she decides to take the job offer in LA, thus leaving Theo and his fear of love). One of them realizes they made a mistake (Theo) and goes to get the other back (Lauren). It really checked off all the boxes, so I don't really have anything negative to say. Most of the drama happened in the second half of the book. To be honest, I don't remember what happens in the first half except for setting up the background of the two characters and their sexual and emotional tension for each other.
I really loved Theo and Lauren. TEN YEARS OF FRIENDSHIP. God that is so long. They were best friends, which allowed them to be the best lovers. There were so many moments where my heart physically clenched and heart strings were pulled. Intimate moments are almost more important to me than smutty moments with couples because it really shows their love for each other. Lauren and Theo had intimate moments outside of sex and during sex, AND they had healthy communication during sex *fist pumps* and even though they were written in third person POV, I could still feel their emotions and thoughts. Some authors have the talent to still show this to their readers in third person POV, and Tara Wyatt did it wonderfully. Lord knows if they were in first person POV alternating, this book would've wrecked me with all the emotions. Wyatt also kept everything realistic in her writing. There are some romance authors that try way too hard when writing romance that their over the top writing makes me feel like the story is unrealistic. Wyatt was still able to give me those feelings of love, support and friendship with her straight forward writing style. Theo and Lauren's story was so realistic, and that is something I appreciated.
I can't think of anything else really to say other than it was a great read. It was a story that focused completely on their relationship, and that was okay to me. We need that kind of romance read every now and then. I am excited to read the second Prescott Brother book!
Some quotes: ○ "And then he kissed her, a sweet, lingering kiss that felt like a sunrise--full of hope and promise and something new." ○ "I love you, Theo. And I'm sorry that such a beautiful thing ruined our friendship." ○ "He watched her for a second, and he felt so... so alive. Like every single piece of his adult life was finally coming together. Like he was finally... maybe... changing. Because staring at Lauren, he felt like he was staring at his future."
I think my biggest problem were the dumb characters.
Theo, our hero is the epitome of "I want to have the cake and eat it, too".
He is a commitment-phobe with a lot unresolved issues due to his toxic and selfish parents as well as his fucked-up childhood that even now, at 30 something, our hero chooses to ignore like the proverbial elephant in the room.
And as exhausting as it was to read about his never ending pity party about his own fuckwittage, it didn't even come close to the frustration I felt with Lauren, our dumber than dumb sis.
Because not only was she needy, stupid and pathetic, apparently she was also blind as she didn't see (or simply chose to ignore) all the red flags that he kept waving before her nose like a fucking matador.
She slept with him because she was so in love. Why? Fuck if I knew.
Then as she knew he would want no relationship or anything serious, she suggested becoming friends with benefits, quietly hoping she would manage to convince him to give her a shot.
And I'm sorry ladies and gents, no offence to anyone here, but this gotta be one of the stupidest things you can do in this position and you have to be a fucking moron to think that this is the way to go. Especially that he kept saying that he didn't want a relationship. He just wanted to fuck her.
And that is exactly what happened throughout the story. Until the very end when she finally leaves after overhearing Theo who admitted to his brother that what they have is just fucking and nothing else.
And in the last chapter our hero finally got his head out of his own ass and came after her and didn't even have to grovel because that dumb bitch accepted him with open arms right away and we have a HFN. Ugh.
Say what you want but if you ever wondered how much the 'friends to lovers' trope could be fucked up..? Well, this book is your answer.
I did give it 2 stars because I finished and I honestly read worse but still, it's not what I wanted, not what I liked and not what I recommend.
It was my first read from this author but maybe I will try sth else from her. Just not now.
A sweet, funny, and super sexy best friends to lovers romance that will have you hooked from the very start!
Theo Prescott and Lauren MacKinnon have an amazing friendship. A friendship neither has been willing to risk ruining by acting on the very non platonic feelings toward one another. Feelings that continue to grow stronger and more intense with each passing day. Becoming harder for each to deny any longer.
Lauren wants to have love and spend her life with someone. Unfortunately, it's with her commitment phobic best friend. Bit by bit over the years Theo has worked his way into her heart. He may be stupid for not realizing it but, she's not about to give up on him yet. After all, the best relationships begin with friendship and for Lauren, Theo is definitely worth the risk.
As a divorce lawyer and witness to his parents toxic marriage, Theo is extremely jaded when it comes to dating, marriage and relationships. Lauren is the only girl he's ever cared about and he wants her to be happy. He's always wanted to be the guy she deserves but, he isn't made for commitment and love. He knows it would be stupid to change things between them when ultimately he'll screw things up and loose her forever but, he finds himself crossing the line anyway...unable to deny himself any longer.
Gah!! I loved this book so much! It was the perfect blend of fun banter, angst and SMOKING HOT sexy times to keep those pages turning! Theo and Lauren had some seriously undeniable chemistry and it just explodes onto the page. They just complemented each other so well! I especially enjoyed their eclectic group of quirky friends that added a lightness and humor to the overall story. Theo's brothers are definitely a group of guys I am highly interested in reading about as this series continues. Lucian in particularly because he has this dark and dangerous thing going on!
Complete with an HEA that will melt your heart, this book was a highly entertaining read that I enjoyed thoroughly! I suggest putting it on your TBR and doing it NOW, you'll thank me later 😉 😘
*I was generously given an ARC copy of this book by the author for an honest review. *
This book BRINGS the steam! Y’all, I was not ready for the amount of spice Tara brought with this one! Lauren and Theo have so much chemistry that it literally flies off the pages! Stupid Love is all the friends to lovers goodness with lots and lots of steamy moments in between and also some emotional punches along the way that keep you so invested in the story!
While I loved Theo, he also had me tugging at my hair in frustration so many times. He is so head over heels in love with Lauren but he is just too stubborn and self-deprecating to admit it. He is holding his past over his head and not allowing himself the happiness he deserves. His actions were his love language and you could tell so much through those actions that his love ran deep and that’s why I fell for him. He had some major things to relearn and grow from in this book and I loved watching his progression.
I definitely found so many similarities in myself with Lauren. She’s a bit stuck with her life and career and she’s not sure if she will ever get her moment. She knows and recognizes her feelings for Theo but she knows he refuses to be in a relationship. I was rooting for her the whole book because she has such a kind soul and she loves Theo so much. I was so happy to see her making leaps in her own personal journey as the story progressed.
Theo and Lauren together were amazing! The friends to lovers trope is one of my favorites but sometimes it falls flat because you don’t feel the friendship but that wasn’t the case for Lauren and Theo. They had such an amazing bond after having been friends for eleven years and that transferred so smoothly into them as lovers. This book fits the trope so well!
The other Prescott’s were introduced in this book and I am super excited to read and learn more about each one! They seem like quite the bunch and I feel like they will keep getting better and better! I’m sooooo intrigued by the infamous Lucian!

I received this arc for an honest review: I liked this story about two friends Lauren who is a librarian and is also a musician, a singer who also writes her own music. Along with her group of friends from college who get together regularly, she and Theo Prescott like each other but only as friends. This changes when they begin to set the other one on blind dates which do not go so well for the other one. When they each met for the dates set up by one of their other friend’s things become complicated between them. Not that it matters for Lauren. Especially after Theo is rushed to the hospital and says some words while he is still under. The story really changes when they go to Texas for his sister's wedding and when he tells her things that really were wrong. Thinking in his head that he is broken because of his parent’s marriage and divorce he allows them to control his words which drive her away. Away from New York and all of their friends and him. He should be happy he got what he what to be alone and hollow in self-pity. Why I don’t know because he does not believe in love. My only issue with the ending and Lauren I think if she was one of my daughters, she would have made him work, work, and then gravel and work some more at least my girls would have. I feel she let him off too easily, just my opinion as a father and a guy. Overall a good story and good characters, looking forward to the Sabastian book. I received this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 4 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com
Best friends for lovers is one of my favorite tropes, so as soon as I read the blurb for "Stupid Love" I got interested. This is the story of Theo Prescott and Lauren MacKinnon. He is a divorce attorney. She is a librarian who loves music; her dream is to sing and compose but she's happy to do it unprofessionally with her friends. They met 10 years ago through his roommate who was dating Lauren at that time and it didn't work out. However, Lauren and Theo connected and began a friendship that continues to this day. They both know each other and get along quite well. Their mutual friends and siblings suspect that there is something more than friendship, something they flatly deny. But not everything is false, there have always been feelings involved but both prefer to hide it so as not to ruin their friendship. When the lines start to blur and they decide to cross them, without thinking about the consequences, at one point it seems to work but then everything gets complicated ...
I can tell you that I really enjoyed the story, although there were times when I wanted to shake Theo. He is almost perfect man: handsome, smart, funny, a great friend. He has everything, but he has many insecurities. Lauren is a independent woman, and I really like her because although at first she was afraid of ruining the friendship she had with Theo, she took the risk. It is she who takes the initiative and makes decisions, and finally manages to make Theo react.
Thanks to Tara Wyatt for providing me an ARC, I really loved and enjoyed this book.
Stupid Love is the first book in The Prescotts series, and what a way to start! 🤩😍 This story tells you about Theo Prescott, a very successful divorce lawyer and his best friend of 10 years, Lauren MacKinnon. Theo sees himself as damaged goods, not able to have a relationship because of the hell his parents put him and his siblings through. Lauren, an aspiring musician,on the other hand wants a relationship, has tried a few times, only issue.... she's in love with Theo 😬.
Feeling start to evolve on both sides, but Theo knows he can't be her forever, so Lauren decides they can be in a relationship but not "together" .
I'm sure you can see where this will head! Both love each other, more than their amazing friendship. But Theo constantly questions if could really truly be in a relationship as much as he loves Lauren.
When a new job opportunity for both becomes an option both want to sacrifice their feelings for the other.
Will they work through their feelings or will they not only lose the person they truly love and an amazing 10 year friendship?
This book had me hooked from the start!! I didn't want to put it down!
I laughed, I cried.... to me the best signs of an amazing book! I can't wait to read about the rest of The Prescott family!
I would like to thank the author, Tara Wyatt, for providing me with an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
