It all started with a partridge. In a pine tree. And two dogs. Three ferrets. Four hamsters. Five golden fish. It just went on from there. Cleo Klausse has spent her entire life as one half of what the kids called the Christmas Couple, forever tied to the gorgeous and obnoxiously perfect Kayne Frost because of their last names, an annoying little joke given that neither one of them actually wanted to be part of the couple. But their common interest—volunteering as animal rescuers at the animal sanctuary—keeps pulling them back together. Especially when he got her sprayed by a skunk. Kayne came back from Arizona with one goal—convince Cleo that they are more than just a schoolyard joke without scaring her off. He has a plan, full of twists and turns and slow baby steps. Unfortunately, the Twelve Days of Christmas doesn’t believe in baby steps and throws them together at every possible chance. But there’s a beauty in chaos, and hope in the mess it leaves behind. Kayne just has to convince Cleo to see it. HUCKLEBERRY FALLS ROMANCES Merry and the Gentleman by Donna K. I am stingy when it comes to giving 5 star ratings, but this book deserves it and more. Such a delightful book, I could not stop reading it!! Who cannot love reading about animals, rescues, and love.
Kayne was a sweetheart. I find it a little amusing that he didn't have the courage to approach Cleo for years! It was really endearing, especially considering he was "Mr. Popularity".
And Cleo pretending she didn't want Kayne was just silly.
The 12 days of Christmas chaos was fun! All those animal rescues in such a short time would be exhausting.
I also really enjoyed seeing Red, Grey, Crew, and Azura again. (If you haven't read Tangled Tinsel and The 5th Christmas Kiss, drop what you're doing and grab those too! Worth it!)
I will say, the only negative, was the timeline. It was a bit off. Red would have been in her early 30s, not a couple years to Kayne's 22.
If you love animals, Christmas, and sweet romance, this definitely is the book for you.
Cute 12 days of Christmas themed animal rescues story
Kayne Frost and Cleo Klausse have been called the Christmas Couple for years because of their last names. Kane has tried for years to hide his love because he doesn’t think it’s returned. Cleo denies her love because she doesn’t want to be part of Kayne’s fan club and have her heart broken. However, this Christmas school break is filled with 12 days of Christmas animal rescues which makes them spend more time together. Cute story, witty repartee, satisfying conclusion.
Another sweet and creative story by Wendy Knight. The characters are adorable, both work at the animal rescue together. And while Cleo felt they had been frenemies in high school Kayne felt differently, both to scared to tell the Other how they really felt. Than they had 12 days of crazy animal rescues to go on and one thing lead to another. The storyline was again different than anything I had and was fun to read. This was a short but great Christmas read!!
I loved the idea behind this book. Cleo and Kayne work for an animal rescue center and the days leading up to Christmas are filled with fun as they rescue a variety of animals. Cleo and Kayne’s relationship is classified as frenemies, but it changes and truths are revealed. This is the first book I have read by this author, but I will read more as I really enjoyed her ability to write a sweet, clean romance.
This is a sweet story telling about Cleo and how she found her love. When we meet her in a previous Huckleberry Falls book I thought she was a teenager not in her early 20s. Kayne is a great guy. The past Cleo experienced doesn't seem to really have existed except in her head. Maybe she should have talked to someone instead of holding it inside. She could have had a different outlook much sooner. I'm glad Kayne and Cleo get together.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading every word of this book. The writing is awesome. The storyline is full of action, human emotion, animal love, romance, and laughter. I have this book a try based on the cover and I am so very glad I did!! What a wonderful way to spend a chilly, rainy, dreary day!!
I love Wendy Knight’s holiday books. They are absolutely adorable with just the right amount of torture. This book is no different. It was so much fun. I especially appreciated the cameos from real life and her other books. Well done!
