Colt could cry, it’s killing him, his best friend Eddie will never be his lover.
Eddie, the most beautiful alpha Arabian race-horse shifter, is looking for an omega. Colt, a Clydesdale shifter, was disappointed to be presented as an alpha.
His heart breaks but he has to set himself free of all those unanswered feelings, he has to leave Vale Valley.
Eddie and Colt both work as a fireman at the Vale Valley Fire Department.
Something incredible happens when they save a man from a fire, their bond shows at once, they are mates, not only the two of them but the unconscious man is their third, their omega.
Their mate is under a curse. Val, their mate is on the run for witches, they want him dead just like they killed his grandparents.
Val has a hidden animal inside who wants to get free.
Nicholas is an Incubus witch and his lover is witch Bedwyr they are of the Vale Valley coven, good witches who can help Val. While Val thinks he’s a latent horse the witches are sure he isn’t, he’s a much more magically endowed and powerful creature.
They all will investigate how to lift the curse to set Val and their triad bond free.
Meanwhile, Val, Eddie, and Colt are getting to know each other, they fit perfectly, emotionally and sexually.
The longer it takes to lift the curse the more depressed Val gets.
This is my first horse shifters story, I loved it! There are beautiful creatures, elves, wolves, flying reindeers, eagle shifters, Incubus, witches, horse shifters and last but not least Val’s hidden one.
The three of them were different and had their characteristics. There is an abundance of kisses, hugs, and tears to find.
At times I had thick goosebumps when it got quite emotional.
Even though there was a curse hanging above the story it was mostly a sweet read, sexy at times, humor, a lot of banter, kidding, and fooling around.
I loved the fantasy and magical content, well worked out and certainly original. The timeline was, for me, a bit long, it took months for some progress. It felt a bit dragging and sometimes a bit repetitive, but not in a very annoying way. Overall I enjoyed this narrative very.
This was book 14 in the "Vale Valley Season 5". I have been waiting on Colt and Eddie to get together. This was a really good read Colt has been in love with Eddie for years with Eddie being obvious to his feelings so he decides to leave the Valley. While out on a call they rescue a man and when they touch him they realize they are mates and he is their third. Valis has been running his whole life from a bad witch he believes that he is a latent horse shifter until the leader of the local coven told him he is a rare omega unicorn with a curse on him. This was a good read Colt and Eddie are both horse shifters and firefighters. I also liked that Tuck took Val under his wing and became his bestie. Colt who is the worrier of the three he doesn't think that Eddie would love him but he did. As he works with the coven to remove the curse he grows frustrated and leaves the Valley only to be attacked. This was a really good read. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading this last book in this series.
I feel like I’ve been waiting forever for Colt and Eddie’s story, so I was a little anxious that I would be let down. Luckily, Drea delivered as always and what we get is the perfect story of 3 men finding love together. There’s a lot going on in this story, unrequited love, curses, family found and made, and it all worked so well together. I will say it felt a little long to me, but overall I left with a smile on my face and happy with how everything turned out.
I absolutely adored this marvelous, sweet, poignant, grab-you-by-the-feels, bittersweet, charming, heartfelt, endearing, delightful, smoldering, and totally awesome addition to this amazing series. Watching Eddie, Colt, and Val get their HEA ending after a bumpy ride was more than worth the wait.
I’ve waited (kind of patiently) since His Christmas Magic to see what Eddie’s and Colt’s story would bring. In Trio we finally get to see Eddie, Colt and Val have their happily ever after.
I really liked that Val was able to bring Eddie and Colt together without seeming like a spare part. So often with books that have triads where two people were in love (unknowingly/unrequitedly etc) the third can seem like a device to bring the two main characters together. That wasn’t the case here - Val was integral part of the Trio and never seemed to be just a tool to bring Eddie and Colt the HEA they needed. Perhaps that’s because Val played such an important role as far as the overarching plot of the story went, but either way the trio is an actual trio, with three very different people all making up equal parts.
The mystery/action of the story was good, though I did have one moment where honestly I was just mad at Val. You could really feel his frustration but I’m still firmly of the opinion that that doesn’t I solve him of his actions and I think he maybe should have apologised more to his mates (I won’t say anything more to avoid spoilers). It’s nothing so awful that it taints his character - he’s still loveable Val, but sometimes I think maybe loveable characters get away with things they shouldn’t because they’re loveable. I just really felt for Eddie and Colt.
I liked the way the big issue was resolved and that we got to see Randall (won’t say anything g more about him beyond he seems pretty awesome and maybe one day we’ll get to learn his story).
My only criticism (it’s not really a criticism but words are failing me right now, comment/personal preference - eh, this is why I could never be a writer!) was that sometimes the time jumps felt a bit jarring, BUT: a) I’m not a big fan of time jumps as a concept so that’s probably more on me than anything else, and, b) I get that it was needed for the story itself. Again, that’s totally personal taste and doesn’t make the story difficult to read or anything - more a heads up if you’re like me and can prepare yourself for when it happens.
Overall a lovely book where we get to see our two favourite horses find their perfect third!
“Trio” is book fourteen in the Vale Valley Season Five series but they can be read in any order, they aren’t connected except for being set in Vale Valley, there are recurring characters but you won’t be lost if you haven’t read any of the prior books in any of the seasons.
I admit to having a love-hate relationship with these books, they are insta-love and have characters do stupid things, but I can’t seem to stop myself from reading them. In “Trio” we have Colt and Eddie finding out they are fated mates by finding their third, Val. From there it’s insta-love and then one character doing something stupid, then being forgiven.
I can’t say I liked any of the main characters, I couldn’t see why they were together. I found them to be either whiny or pushy, and everything that happened was blamed on the “curse”, I just couldn’t. I didn’t like how everyone was into everyone’s business, and how everything was all tied up a little too neatly at the end of the book. Although I seem to be in the minority on this book, so I’m going to say it’s me and not the book. I did like the best friends Tuck and Darren, and liked he various witches/warlocks that made appearances throughout the book.
Overall if you are looking for an insta-love story with lots of family involved with the main throuple, or if you like horse shifters, give this one a go.
I give this one 2 stars.

A curse has kept you from finding your mates. Is Vale Valley magic enough?
Vale Valley magic strikes again! Lots of my old friends welcomed me back. I fell under the spell of the magical characters who dwell in Vale Valley. This story features two of my favorite horse shifter/ firefighters, Clydesdale Colt, & Arabian Eddie. Saving Val stuns them. Val is their third, the omega that completes them. Their mate. But Val is cursed: cut off from his unicorn, chased, unable to fully form the mating bond. This book has witches, good & evil, Christmas elves, good friends, a brave omega, protective, sometimes oblivious alphas, and sexy scenes with off the charts heat index. Ooh, and adorable babies! Things are not always easy for our trio. But this is Vale Valley after all. HEA is assured. And Val's unicorn is breathtaking. You will love this book! It isn't necessary to have read the previous books, but you are in for a treat if you take the time to read them. This book contains adult themes and language, mmm sex and is intended for mature readers only.
I have secretly been in love with Colt since that gentle giant of a horse shifter was first introduced as a character so I was thrilled to get his and Eddie’s story as well as that of their third, Val. This story was so full of gentle love and affection, as well as the caring and nurturing that comes from fated mates in Vale Valley. Colt has been pining away after Eddie for years and when he finally decides that he has had enough, the magic of the Vale steps in and provides them with what was missing from their lives. Val is not used to trusting others and has been on the run for so long that he doesn’t settle down easily and it takes him a while to trust anyone other than Colt and Eddie. One of the things that I love about the entire Vale Valley series is the whole found family aspect of the entire town and the way its citizens fight for each other and support each other. I am sad to see this series ending but it is going out on a good season. I loved this story, as I have each one of Drea Roman’s contributions!
Cole and Eddie are horse shifter best friends that work for the fire department. While on call, they rescue a man from a burning barn. When they go to check on him, their hands touch and they realize that the three of them are fated mates. But why didn't Colt and Eddie know they were mates? They learn that their mate Val has a curse on him. A curse that prevents him from shifting, and that was strong enough that Eddie and Colt couldn't feel the mating pull. Over the course of the story we learn more about Val and what he must do to break the curse and finally be free to shift and fully bond with his mates. There is plenty of action, lots of heart and humor, and plenty of steamy scenes. I loved the variety of the minor characters. You could really feel the love that the community has for every resident.
Trio: Friend, Lover, Mate is a nice addition to the Vale Valley magical world. Part of the fifth season of this series, it's easily read as a standalone, but do yourself a favor and get to know this town.
Colt, Eddie, and Val. Three fated mates.
Their tale is one of horse shifters and plenty of surprises. It's a shifter tale with magic, witches, and curses, as well as a unicorn shifter who never knew he was such.
From the start, my heart hurt for Val, as his fear is front and center.
There are plenty of cute moments, including some with the larger group of their Vale Valley neighbors. But, it's too slow for me. The writing is solid, with a good mystery. I just found myself drifting at way too often. I needed more and sooner.
I was completely on board with the storyline until 2 of the 3 MCs start kissing over the unconscious body of their 3rd mate. Ummm ... ᑎO!?! And then, Val wakes up in the hospital with an evil curse, and a concussion, having just seen his grandparents murdered, but wants to get handsy with his two new mates. Again I say “🙄”. I just personally have an issue with authors who write in steamy {or even thoughts of steamy} “in hospital with an injury” scenes. Otherwise, it was a cute story. The existing relationship was super sweet and the ways it changed {& bringing Valis in} was very special.
Vale Valley is truly a magical place, with wonderful characters. I'm sad to see this is the last season.
I really enjoyed the concept and theme of this story, with two alpha shifters realizing their bond when they save a third shifter who is the omega for them both. I loved all three MCs, but the story dragged a little in some parts, and there was too much back-and-forth thinking and indecisiveness/insecurity. The curse was interesting, but it seemed a bit too easy to overcome in the end after all the emphasis put on it. Still, I loved the horse-shifters and the M/M/M relationship. Overall, a sweet love story.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving this honest review
Enthralling and pageturning story of Colt, Eddie and their newly discovered fated mate Val. When firefighters Colt and Eddie (both Alphas) pulled an unconscious male from a burning barn it changed everything, they finally realised that they were fated mates and that the unknown male (an Omega) was their third. Colt had been in love with Eddie, his best friend for fifteen years and it had been breaking his heart that Eddie didn't feel the same. Dark magical forces have cursed their Omega Val and have hunted him for most of his lifetime. MMM, Shifter, Paranormal, Romance, Heat, Mpreg. Fantastic story, thoroughly enjoyed reading.
Colt, Eddie and Val story was amazing. The adrenaline, mystery and magic complete each other so beautifully and offers us an extremely sweet and adorable love story where a curse almost succeeded in separating fated mates. Is so good to see old friends and to see how they contribute to make our trio find their happiness. We learn new things about magic, rare shifters and an old revenge story. It's an amazing read and we see again how the magic of Vale Valley brings together a new family and gives us a new HEA.
Colt was such a sweet yet sensitive alpha whereas; Eddie was oblivious to what was right in front him. Val was the missing piece that completed this trio and what a beautiful trio it was.
Eddie was the jokester of the bunch and I loved his laid back attitude and the sexy as hell dominant behaviour in the bedroom.
The romance, mystery, magic and danger kept me engaged right to the very end. The trio were amazing and their stunning animals just added to the magic.
*I voluntarily read this book. All opinions stated are solely my own and no one else's*
Wow! We get a Clydesdale, an Arabian, and a Unicorn. Now that’s a powerful trio. But boy do they have to work at it to be true mates. Especially Val. My heart broke for him. What I found most impressive was the talent the author had in making the villain present and felt even though he was rarely on the page. Let’s not forget the trip down memory lane with all the familiar faces we got to see. Man I hate that this is the final season but it’s been one heck of a run. Thank you to all the authors who have made Vale Valley a town we would love to stay in.
Trio: Friend, Lover, Mate by Drea Roman is part of the fifth and final season of the Vale Valley magical universe. This is one of my favorites of the season. Sweetness, steam, suspense, shifters, mystery, magic, and an mmm lovestory. I found the story fascinating and fun, the characters were amazing and I loved their connection. This is a perfect example of why Vale Valley stories are a must read for me. I am going to miss these books but I am so happy we got treats like this one!
I have been waiting for this book for forever and it did not disappoint. Colt, Eddie, and Val were life and I loved them. Their story was filled with love, angst, friendship and more. I absolutely adored them. I could not put this book down. I loved how this story played out and how each character had their own personal trials they had to go through that ultimately made them stronger as individuals and as a throuple. Fantastic read. Absolutely loved it.
This is my first horse shifter story and I rather enjoyed it. Two horses, best friends forever Colt and Eddie save a very special one, Valis in a fire call. They are all mates but magic keeps them apart, not fully able to bond. I love the banter, the brightness in Eddie, Colt is a bit shy and prone to sadness but adorable and Val is strong and magical. They make do with the obstacles and at last, love always win. Great story!
Cute shifter romance, but somehow I thought it would be a bit more and better.
I enjoyed reading the book, but I felt the characters a bit flat and the story wasn't that exctiting either. The shifter scenes were cute, but those weren't as much in the book. I haven't read horse shifters before, and it was really good.
The fated mate thing was the best, I love fate books. Friends to lovers and instalove with a stranger.
The mpreg was mild too, I love my mpreg books a bit more detailed and more in the centre. The labor was great though, and the names were cute too!
After all it was a cute book, mild on the romance and on everything else.
I absolutely adored this story. I was so happy to visit with the other characters and it was great to finally see Colt get his happy ending. Val and Eddie are so perfect for him. Unicorns, shifters, witches and Vale Valley, this story had all my favorite things in it and I enjoyed it so much. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.
This is a wonderful addition to this multi author series, Trio is all about who Eddie, Colt and Val find out that they are mates and work towards completing their bond.
This is a easy read with low angst and lots of love. The characters are fun with plenty of quirks, making this a really enjoyable read.
Loved this entry in the series. It is my first horse shifter book and I was fascinated by the author's take on the shifter story. All three men were wonderful characters and their m/m/m relationship was lovely to watch develop. The suspense provided by the curse plot was well done and grabbed me from the first.
Eddie and Colt are shocked that first of all they are mates themselves but they found a mate that is for both of them. Val is stunning and belongs with his mates but there is so much trouble before they can complete their bond. this book is another really special, very well written book in a series that is brilliant “I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.”
Absolutely worth the wait since their story began at the end of one of the tales in "Season Four"! Ok I was chomping at the bit, pun intended, to finally read their romance but Drea Roman did a fantastic job with this one! There is a certain heartache that I won't spoil for you but the love and acceptance was beautiful with this trio! There is a mystery that brings a lot of the popular characters from the first four seasons together which made the storyline thoroughly engaging with lots humor and the strong sense of found family that Vale Valley is known for! Such a great read!
First, I wasn’t really sure if I was into it. But honestly, this was really good. I really loved the whole curse plot line of the book. It was amazing. And I love all three of the guys they were great together. I love how protective and how much they love each other and the end was just the sweetest thing.
This book is why I loved this series this has to be my absolute favourite out of all 5 seasons. I cried and laughed through out u am glad they all got their happy endings.
Love Val Valley. This was a great addition. This was a enchanting story with a unicorn and his two wonderful mates there story has black magic and a never ending love with a HEA and three wonderful babies. Great adventure.
