"The CRAFT approach of assessment for learning (Condense/Review/Assess/Feed-Forward/Traget-Driven) is a strategy that can be applied at a subject level and at a whole school level to assess student learning from across the Key Stages. Michael Chiles accessible and innovative book provides a practical guide for teachers and schools on how the CRAFT approach can be applied by looking at each of the different elements of condensing, reflecting, assessing, feed-forward and target-driven improvement."
I quite liked this book. It divides into four main sections that make up the 'craft'; these are Condense, Reflect, Assessment and Feedforward with Target Driven improvement. There are a lot of very good ideas for things to try out in the classroom and this is certainly a book where you could find things to put into practice tomorrow. I did sometimes feel that these strategies could have had more time on them in a book that is quite slim so space was not exactly a problem. The overall vision presented is helpful and has made me think and reflect about a number of areas. I also liked the quite succinct summaries of research which began each section. I would happily recommend this book to teachers and leaders because there is much to take away from it and discuss or develop further.
