Not even the king of Los Angeles’s underground can stop me from loving Celeste.

Arturo Flores could make me disappear with a snap of his fingers, and nearly did. Limping away from a beatdown when I was seventeen didn’t change the fact that his daughter was worth the pain. Running into her in my tattoo shop twelve years later, she still makes my blood run hot with a glance.

But I’m not that clueless teenage boy anymore. And Celeste isn’t the only one I want.

Leo is a temptation I crave, but in our world, admitting desires like mine could get me killed. The gangbanger is as ruthless as he is beautiful, yet he can’t see anything beyond Celeste. That hurts like hell to admit, but I would sooner die at her crime lord father’s hands than let either of them get hurt.

I’m prepared to let them have each other when Leo comes to me with an offer. One that could connect the three of us in a way that flies in the face of the world we live in. His proposal ignites a fire in my veins. If it fails, we’ll all get burned, but for a man with nothing to lose, I’m just desperate enough to take that chance.

Ophelia grew up on a rural farm in North Carolina and now lives in Los Angeles with her sexy tattooed alpha husband and five-and-a-half attention-whoring cats (one of them is exceptionally large and might actually be a dragon in disguise).

Thanks so much to Allie for the suggestion for an impromptu BR of this with Debbie and Niki! This author hadn't even hit my radar - where have I been?

This is essentially a second chance story for Maddox (former military, now tattoo artist) and Celeste (daughter of a crime lord and now his CFO) who run into each other through Leo, one of Maddox's clients and also bodyguard to Celeste (amongst his other tasks for her father).

Maddox is bi and has been crushing on Leo for a year as he steadily tatts him up. Celeste comes into he studio one day and she and Maddox reconnect for the first time since they were teens and he got beaten up for being with her. Things are complicated by Leo who is irrevocably in love with Celeste also.

And straight.

Maddox pretty much pushes Leo and Celeste together and steps aside though eventually Celeste conspires to bring the three of them together in a pretty funny way .

There's a decent amount of build and exploration of emotions in this. I still felt like Maddox was a little bit used by the two of them in the beginning (the perils of being the third) and I hated that because ultimately, he loved Celeste first and had stepped aside. However, ultimately I loved this story. It was hot with MFM, MMF, no OW/OM drama and a decent story.

On the whole, pretty addictive - cant wait to read the next one

Ophelia Bell is an author i’ve been wanting to read for a while now,and Mad Dog sounded intriguing.
So,when she offered a copy in return for an honest review,i didn’t have to think twice….
And now that i’ve finished Mad Dog,i can say for sure i’m going to read the others in this series, because it’s hot!

Maddox “Mad Dog” has come a long way from the boy that was beaten up by the thug Gustavo working for Celeste’s father Arturo.
Fooling around with his young and innocent daughter was not something the man appreciated….
It didn’t stop him from loving her,but he’s kept his distance ever since he was discharged honorably from the Navy, and returned home.
Leo,one of her bodyguards,now that’s a different story.
He’s been a regular in his tattoo shop from the moment he started out,and a torturous temptation every time he requests new ink to be done.
Knowing he’s working for Arturo makes him off-limits,but they have become very close friends.
But when Leo confesses to him he’s in love with Celeste….
Mad Dog knows he could only dream of having one,let alone two.

But life has a way of taking turns you don’t expect, and even if tragedy can’t be avoided,it does open up options….
Because after Mad Dog practically pushes Celeste to Leo,she’s not about to let him slip away.
She knows he loves her ánd Leo….and the way Leo looks at Mad Dog gives her a reason to hope.
With betrayal and death all around, the three need all the beauty they can find, that’s for sure!

This was a rollercoaster ride that drew me in from the first page.
And it didn’t let go until the very last.
A story that makes me want to hear more….

I have to admit I was a little hesitant to read Mad Dog by Ophelia Bell. Not that I am not a huge fan of hers because I am. But Ophelia is known for her PNR stories and I have read every one of her books under that troupe. So yes I wanted to read Mad Dog but I was a little afraid to see where she would go with this almost contemporary story.

I knew I shouldn't have been worried. Ophelia is a superstar no matter what she writes. Mad Dog is a bisexual story that may be a little slow going but once it gets going doesn't stop. The characters Maddox, Celeste, and Leo are perfect. The story is solid and there is just enough sex to keep you going. I honestly couldn't put it down.

If you are looking for an author that can write just about everything here it is. Mad Dog is the beginning of a series that doesn't end in a cliffhanger. Everyone has a happy ending but it does kind of start the next book. I am excited to see where we go.

Ophelia has created one hell of a world that I can't wait to get lost in! This book is a standalone, but the beginning of a series. This book starts with Maddox aka mad dog. He's a former Naval Medic who now runs a tattoo shop adjacent to his mother's dance studio. He's back in his old neighborhood but trying to leave the past behind. Since he's been back, he's developing a relationship with Leo, who loves being under MadDog's tattoo gun. They've become really great friends. Maddox would love more, but that is his secret to keep. Little does he know how close Leo is to his old life! Leo is in love with the bosses' daughter who just happens to be MadDog's first everything. He even took a beating for her. Celeste is Papa's coveted daughter, and the heir to his empire. You touch her, you suffer dire consequences. Maddox knows she's a risk he can't take. But when Celeste sees her old love, she can't help herself. Neither can MadDog. I absolutely loved the play between these two/three! Such heartfelt moments along with the hot! Such a great read!!

Book 1 in new series Second Skin by Ophelia Bell
Maddox (Mad Dog) is a ex navy now a tattoo artist in a rough area of LA that is run by cartels.
Papa Flores runs the world surrounding Maddox and his family but he hasn’t been messed up with him since he was a kid.
Celeste is the daughter of papa Flores and runs his properties. After papa Flores hurts a love interest for getting too close she can’t let herself get too close to Leo one of her bodyguards.
I won’t lie I wasn’t sure I’d 100% love this like all her other book but I should have trust in the queen of dragons to deliver me a amazing book.
This is heavily based around the American-Mexican cartel which I don’t know much about other then what I’ve watched in movies so it’s nice to see this family and loyalty side but still with the gritty stuff.
Absolutely loved this and can not wait till next book.
This is first book in a long time that’s kept me awake and when I did go to sleep I woke up in night desperate to carry on.

When I read the previous version called After You, which is a very Very VERY short story ( Leo’s name is Lazaro ); I wasn’t sure I wanted to read the rewritten extended version. But I love erotic contemporary MMF romance and I found Maddox to be a compelling character.
This was a great novel. The book can be read as a stand alone story or you can continue the series and read the book about Mason Black.
Of the three main characters I liked Maddox the best, he served his country, he is loyal to those he loves, even to his own detriment and he is a fighter.
The story ends mostly HEA for the three main characters and then the Mason Black story begins.

Meh. I wish that I liked this book more. The characters that fell in love didn’t have much of a connection outside of sizzling heat in the bedroom, which was great don’t get me wrong. I love smut - but I need more from my books than just that. We didn’t see or feel anyone falling in love, instead the reader is just told that they are in love and it feels like an insta-love situation without any depth. There’s a lot of action and secondary characters that I find intriguing, but I’m not so sure I’m willing to buy more books to continue reading after this lackluster first book.

Good but a little confusing

Maddox is back in his hometown, working on his tattoo shop and head down (but ears on the ground). His tattoo shop is neutral zone but the underbelly of the city is welcome on his chair for ink.

This is how he’s met Leo, a man Maddox is in love with. But Leo is in love with Celeste, the daughter of the most powerful man in LA and out of reach for Leo. He’s her bodyguard, nothing more. That is until Leo takes a bullet for Celeste.

Maddox is torn between wishing the best for Leo and Celeste, but he can’t. Not when he has feelings for both of them, deep feelings that will not go away. After all, Celeste is the reason Maddox was forced to leave over ten years ago, his love for her ending bloody and broken for him.

Can these three make a go of it and most importantly, will their love make it in the end?

The story is good and I liked the characters, but there was something that stopped me from fully enjoying and loving the story. Maybe it’s because a lot happens in the book but not everything gets processed with the amount it would need. And I wasn’t a fan of the timeline either, it kept jumping.

The three main characters I liked and their chemistry together is good. But again, something was missing. I don’t know what, but I couldn’t fully put my finger on it. I was ready to love them fro merge blurb but I didn’t. Did I have too high expectations? Maybe. Also there were a twists and turns that felt like they were crammed in there for the sake of twists that might’ve been better left out.

In the end, it was an okay read but not enough for me to continue with the series.

To be continued!!
There is no HEA nor is there a HFN ending, at least give me something to look forward to with these three lovebirds even it’d it’s years later just a snippet of something positive to hold on to as the series continues...
Gritty, drama, crime, second chance of teenage love a decade later but with the new side of Mad Dog as a bi man in love with a gangbanger client for tattoos and the only girl he’s ever loved and touched in all his life.

I wanted to like this book but I did not enjoy it at all.
the characters were weak and unlikable.

Maddox's mother stayed with her husband and allowed him to physically verbally and mentally abuse her children and often sent her children out of the house in order to calm him down. why did she stay and allow this? she chose her husband over her kids.

Maddox and Celeste claim to both love Leo but neither respected him enough to have an honest conversation to discuss the situation instead they decide how he feels and what he would want and decide to give up the love they have for each other because he will be sad. what is this rubbish? If you actually love some one you give them the ability to decide for themselves you don't make assumptions and take action without talking to them.
If Celeste and Maddox are so willing to give up on each other then they don't deserve each other.

Celeste is the worst character. she want to be the next mob boss but won't get her hands dirty with illegal activities and does not have the courage to demand to know what is going on. She wants to be strong but at every opportunity she kisses Maddox then hates her self for being weak, or does not act incase she looks petty or weak. If she was strong and tough she would demand and act not shyly do nothing.
She was not willing to fight for a relationship with Maddox but will have one with Leo because he is in a bad place. This girl is a yoyo.

Maddox “Mad Dog” Santos was honorably discharged from the Navy, now he runs his own tattoo shop in his old neighborhood. He had a rough time growing up. Now only the gangs in his neighborhood, but his home life wasn’t exactly great. He’s the oldest of five kids and chose to go into the Navy rather than the Marines like his father. The woman that has held his heart since they were teens is off limits and his heart hasn’t gotten the memo yet.

Celeste Flores is the daughter of the Cartel boss and she’s following in his footsteps. She grew up with Maddox Santos and has known him since she was eight years old, when comforted her after her mother’s death. Now she’s a grown woman and still as beautiful as Maddox remembers.

I enjoyed this book but found it to be a little slow to start. Once I got past the first few chapters, it became very interesting, action packed, and very steamy. The connection between Leo, Celeste and Maddox is explosive. This book was twisted and dark, but it was a great story. The characters are great and interesting to read. I give this book a 4-star review and I am looking forward to the next books in the series. This book went full throttle after it got going but there also has so much more to cover with the Santos family. If you like mafia, cartel, and gang stories and sexy characters that have secrets, you’ll enjoy this story.

I have to admit that the pacing at the beginning of the book was very slow and I had to double check that this was an OB book. It was great that we got back story on all of the characters and how their lives intertwined. I love getting all POV’s for me it is a much fuller experience.

Celeste is the tasty morsel in the middle of two very different men. She is a lot tougher than she appears and now that she is finding her own inner strength to step out from her father’s shadow, she finds herself caught between Maddox/Mad Dog and Leo.

Maddox/Mad Dog is back after joining the military and is a very changed man from the young boy that Celeste remembers. He has suffered loss and is now harboring a secret that in his mafia world could get a guy killed.

Leo is up and coming in Celeste’s father’s business and he finds himself wanting things he knows he can’t have and desires that scare him.

Once things started rolling, I got caught up in the intensity of betrayed loyalties, loss and the major smoking heat from Celeste, Mad Dog and Leo.

Many secrets are brought to light and what once may have been an impossibility might have a chance to grow.

I loved it. I was riveted from page 1 right to the end. Maddox (or Mad Dog) an ex Navy medic now runs a tattoo shop in a corner room of his mother's dance studio. Most of his customers are gangbangers and his best friend Leo is one of them. Working for Arturo Flores he is a bodyguard for Flores' daughter Celeste. Leo loves Celeste but knows she is off limits to him. Unknown to him, Mad Dog has also loved Celeste since they were teenagers. But he too knows she is off limits. Flores runs a tight ship and keeps his illegitimate business strictly in arts and antiquities. Gun selling is not allowed. But things get complicated when Mad Dog's brother JJ becomes involved in selling guns to Mexican drug lord Amador. In addition to all of this there are revelations surrounding the relationships between, Mad Dog's parents and Arturo. The love triangle between Mad Dog, Leo and Celeste and other dynamics in the lives of the other characters in the book. The story is well written with well developed characters. Full of drama and suspense; danger and deceit with betrayal, romance with hot sex and tragedy. I'm now looking forward to the next book in the series to continue the story.

Ophelia Bell writes about strong women who are not apologetic about enjoying sex and alpha men who do not mind strong women. If you are ready to take a trip on sensual ride, then pack your bags for this steamy mafia voyage. The journey introduces you to a world of action, mystery, suspense and a wonderful world of fiction. Ophelia Bell usually writes about steamy dragons, but this latest introduction to mafia series had me on the edge. Ophelia never disappoints capturing my attention. The world building in this novel was very original. Each characterization was top notch with the leading men and leading lady being very distinct individuals. The storyline had everything needed to keep you turning pages; such as, 2 hot strong men, a strong heroine, steamy scenes, thrilling action suspense and mystery. A well written mafia story that is unpredictable and entertaining. Looking forward to the next tasty installment.

Maddox and celeste had a bond that lived through their life time and even though they've not seen each other in years the chemistry is still there but celeste was still shock to discover that Maddox was back in town and running a tattoo shop below his mother's dance studio but with the rift between Maddox and her father she know they could never be together, Leo works for celeste father with his brother manny but Leo as been in love with celeste for years knowing her father would never approve of a relationship between them he's always stay close to celeste just to protect her, but something happens that will change course for all three of them, secrets will come alight death will tear lives apart but will Maddox and celeste and Leo bring them together. This was a very good read and the little twist at the end hoping for another book

Amazing Story!! Oh wow! I was hooked by this dark love story right off the bat. The suspenseful storyline kept me on the edge of my seat. The immense danger presented will keep you turning the pages to find out what happens next. There are also aspects of the story that will have you sitting there with tears streaming down your face, and there are quite a few surprises that you absolutely won’t see coming. The romance between Maddox, Celeste, and Leo is unbelievably scorching. Ophelia Bell certainly knows how to write stories that you’ll find yourself invested in and that you’ll want to continue reading. I received an ARC from the author thru Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my review. I thought that I knew what I was getting into when starting this book. It really was so much more than I imagined and a great way to start off the Second Skin series. It is about how three people become connected and find love in ways that never imagined. Maddox, Celeste, and Leo have a story that will bring you into the world of the cartels in LA. Celeste is a cartel princess that has a very protective father. Maddox was her first love and he paid a price for it. Leo is who brings these two together again. They both have developed feelings for him. They not only face the normal problems for a triad, but throw in the cartel aspect and things become much more dangerous. I cannot think of anything that I did not like about this book or the characters except that I wish I did not have to wait for the next book. Their story has plenty of drama, danger, friendship, lust and love.

This was it for me. A morning read while I drank my cup of caffeine. I enjoyed the tattoo storyline and the interrelationships. The writing was detailed but not overly done. I read the reviewed, the synopsis, and purposely gave this story a go. I think I may be done with the series for now as the intensity really was for more of a lunch time or evening read versus my morning cup of coffee. I'm saying this is a good story. The characters are intriguing. The story line of cartels and city monopolies is one I truly enjoy investigating on a fictional level. I may have been overly excited about a scene where one character finds a check written to another one since sometimes the theme is, "Follow the money". I work numbers all day, so this really hit my core brain process.

If you are wondering if you should go down the path of this series, I would suggest keeping yourself open to anything. And, as long as you don't mind intensity, you will be just fine! I will say, if you aren't sure of your intensity tolerance level, this one will definitely help you figure that out!

📖 Book Review: Mad Dog by Ophelia Bell 💀🏍️

In Mad Dog, Ophelia Bell takes readers on a dark and thrilling journey into the world of motorcycle clubs, where loyalty, power, and passion collide. The story centers around Mad Dog, a brooding and dangerous biker, and the fierce heroine who enters his world. The chemistry between them is electric, filled with tension and undeniable heat.

Bell’s portrayal of the MC world feels raw and authentic, balancing gritty realism with the deep emotional connections that develop between the characters. Mad Dog is packed with high-stakes drama, action, and steamy romance, making it an irresistible read for fans of darker love stories. The characters are complex and layered, keeping you engaged with their choices and the dangerous lives they lead.

If you're a fan of motorcycle club romances and crave a story that dives into love and loyalty in a gritty, no-holds-barred world, Mad Dog delivers in spades.

The first book of a very intense series. Mad Dog or Maddox has a past that forever changed him both physically and emotionally. He discovered more about himself but led to so much pain and suffering. The scars he tries to hide but even he will have to show them if he is to survive. Leo, his best friend and Celeste, the first girl he ever loved, are the other two main characters. The story will show the darkness of the mafia and its effects on those not involved in it. Good men make bad decisions and death will be the consequence. The story has a deep plot that is always changing with some twists that will make you cry, some to make you laugh and some that are pure hotness. There are m/m, m/f and m/m/f scenes.

I love this first book of a new series from Ophelia Bell. It grabbed me and didn't let go.
Maddox is captivating and smouldering. Getting his life back on track after coming home to recover from his military service. Grieving the loss of his second love and falling for a friend who he keeps at arms length. His world is about to come full circle and evolve as he could never imagine.
I was engrossed in this story. The characters are beautifully written with love and great detail. The plot had me captivated, the twists and turns, secrets and revelations. All make an epic tale.
This is going to be a gripping series and I can't wait for more :-)
I highly recommend this book and author.

I really thought I would love this book, because I usually LOVE hot threesome, but it started sooo slooow. It picked up somewhere in the middle, and then the heat and passion shot into space. So while the latter part was a big 5.0, the beginning was closer to 2.5-3.0 for me, so overall I give it 4 stars. If you can get through the first part which is a lot of history and how they got to where they are, the rest is way more steamy and entertaining. There is mafia, family, drama, tattoos, secrets, and suspense. Also some very hot, steamy scenes. I did like that we get all three MCs POV, but I wish the author could have moved the beginning along a little faster.

This is the story of 3 friends that all love each other. They are not aware that they all know one another till later in the book. The relationships and back story are built as you read the book. There is a fair amount of heat but the story is the true treasure in this book. It is a nice read that will keep you entertained and wanting more throughout the book. It is the story of the love between a man and a women and the love between two men. If this offends you best not to read this book. It is truly a love story all the way around. Not only between romantic partners but also the love of a family.

Despite the slow start, I really ended up enjoying this book. Once things picked up, it was explosive and steamy. The chemistry between Maddox (Mad Dog), Leo, and Celeste was off the charts. So hot I had to stop reading for a minute. I was extremely pleased with how Ms. Bell was descriptive during the love scenes and how Maddox took his time with Leo and Celeste since it was their first time for certain things. The characters were well developed and easily relatable. Once we got through the first few chapters, the storyline flowed smoothly the rest of the way. I can’t wait for the next books in this series. I hope we’ll get answers to questions I was left with at the end.

Organized crime characters - which I knew. Not paranormal - which I knew. Part of a series - which I knew.

Teenaged romance between Celeste & Maddox nixed - in a violent way - by Celeste's mobster father. Now Celeste is on the brink of taking over father's mobster empire when Maddox comes back into her life. Since it doesn't seem like mobster rules served them before, and there's a very violent/traumatic end to this story....

So Celeste is going to forsake criminal enterprise/drugs/murder, right? Immoral, devastatingly sad, heartbreaking....But...yeah, no. Thoroughly loathsome individual & organization.

Love this author but zero interest in reading the rest of this series.

I buy a lot of free or $.99 books and then never read them, but I’m so glad I decided to read this one almost right away! Maddox owns a tattoo shop, and has been giving Leo for a year. They’ve become friends, and Maddox has fallen for Leo. Then Leo’s boss shows up at the tattoo shop while Leo is getting work done, but worse the boss brought the big boss’s daughter with him!! Celeste is someone Leo acts as bodyguard for often, but also has a long ago history with Maddox. And so it begins!! There’s family drama, there’s gangland drama, there’s cartel drama!! There’s even a dance studio that the tattoo shop is in the same building, owned by his mom. It was such a great read, I’m ready for the next one!!

I am a fan of Ophelia's dragon books and other shape-shifting romances so when I received this book to read it was outside of my norm. I thoroughly enjoyed every single word of Mad Dog. Ophelia definitely did not disappoint. I found all of the amazing character building, back story, intrigue, and extremely hot scenes that I crave and expect from her books. As usual her books are not for the faint of heart or libido. If you want a real page turner that will leave you panting, your heart racing, and maybe even have your cheeks blushing look no further. I can not wait for whatever comes next.

This story is not what I originally thought it would be, it turned out even better. Maddox is Mad Dog, but there is Celeste and Leo who make up the core of this incredible story. The relationship between the three of them is not conventional, but it is beautiful. The love they share is unique and makes me feel in awe. There is violence that surrounds their life, but the relationship between them is not violent. This book is so well written, I cannot wait for the next book that continues the search for a resolution to Celeste's father's problems with an old enemy.
