Wow the series continues with dynamic energy, distracting me from my work in the most perfect way! I couldn’t wait to read at night, curious to learn the fates of the many characters Winter Fox has developed in this second book of the Flight of the Wren series. It’s clear he has researched extensively to compose this series, and then some more. I’m in awe of the many twists and turns each storyline manages to make whilst staying in perfect tune with the others.

I feel drawn to Hilja and Hekka the most, as I did in the first book, and in this book I loved getting to know them more through the eyes of new characters. They had some EPIC moments!! Hekka’s children are a delight, each with their own unique personalities. This is intriguing to witness, knowing full well how siblings can differ from each other. Therein reveals Fox’s ability to translate the human experience into a tale of magical history, making historical characters and the factionalized ones feel so relatable. I find myself laughing with them, cringing with them, getting angry and feeling great sorrow.

Without giving spoilers away, there’s one scene in particular in this book that made me weep. Many others made me laugh and cheer for the characters as they navigated their way through terrible odds and lighter moments of mischief as well.

I also especially enjoyed the magic of nature and how the elements, animals and the gods / underworld all became illuminated with vivid detail.

So if you like magic, history, action, romance, intrigue, super strong characters mixed with despicable ones, ultra clever scenes, comedic relief, mystery, plot twists and well, every other ingredient of a fantastic story, then this book is for you. Highly recommend starting with the first, Flight of the Wren. Thank you Winter Fox for another beautiful book!
