Liz Greene is held in high esteem by astrologers all over the world, professional and non-professional alike. She is a prolific author of books and various publications and has been instrumental in shaping modern psychological astrology.
She holds doctorate degrees in psychology and (as of 2010) in history and is a qualified Jungian analyst. She also holds a diploma in counselling from the Centre for Transpersonal Psychology in London, and a diploma from the Faculty of Astrological Studies, of which she is a lifetime Patron.
Reading my Sun, Moon, and Ascendant in this book was like seeing my life flash before my eyes.
The reason is that there are two primary (and majorly important) sources of information on display here: 1) Smart and detailed discussion of the myths/archetypes involved in each of the Signs, Elements/Essences, and Planets (Greene is an excellent researcher: see her books on Neptune and Saturn as well.) 2) Greene's firsthand experience seeing clients in Psychological Astrology.
The result is that the book brims with anecdotal wisdom, compassionate observation, and charming (sometimes arch) advise. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in a first look at their horoscope, but also to those who have acquired some proficiency.
I bought this the first time in 1987. It was so much loved it actually fell apart. I've bought two more copies of it since. Simply the best astrology book ever published in my opinion, and I've read / used at least 30.
I always feel that the choice of title probably put off more people than it attracted. It was originally called "Star Signs For Lovers", but I think it's the "Lovers" part that's off-putting. It isn't just for lovers, it's for anyone with an interest in Human Nature. If you're just learning about astrology for the first time there is no book that will serve you better than this one.
Do not even THINK of buying "Linda Goodman's Sun Signs" instead of this. That would be a big mistake on your part.
Don't be fooled by the title (forced on her during the publication process), she is a real astrologer and this book is a serious and well written study of the Sun Signs and how they work in the birth chart.
It's a shame that such an informative book has an utterly misleading title. This book offers way more than just simple advice on how to seduce another sign, or to learn about the proclivities of yours. This is a deep plunge not only into the remarkable individuality of each sign, but at their weaknesses and darker shades, chapters which very, very few astrological books and texts would dare to look into.
From the way she makes an Aries look positively charming, to the chaotic martyrdom a bludgeoned, by the world, Piscean can put his loved ones through, from the magnanimous qualities of a successful Leo to the dogmatic judgement Aquarius wishes to pass through. Liz Greene offers insight to every sign, discusses their unique capabilities, their darker sides and, yes, how they act in love and life. Interestingly, she manages to tie each sign to a distinct myth or mythological aspect, so one can identify signs to bigger symbols, and witness just how much astrology has been walking side by side with humanity since the ancient times.
It's a wonderful plunge into the humane and humanitarian aspect of astrology, and Greene's humour seeping through some of the sentences makes it all the more entertaining. What she sets out to do isn't to offer mundane tid-bits on how to coerce your interest to fall in love with you; she opens the door to how each sign can pass through its limitations, get past through things that tether them to unfulfillment, and maybe, just maybe, make you realise more things about yourself than you ever thought possible.
Thoroughly satisfied with this book, and I can't wait to read more from her.
This book is good for understanding your partner in a relationship and even yourself. It gives in-depth analysis of each zodiac sign - the general descriptions, the fe/male aspects, the sign as a lover, the myth (patterns), and the shadow (personality parts the individual can't express or recognize) of the sign. I read (total one hour) the chapters for each of the zodiac signs that I've dated (Aquarius, Taurus, Gemini, Capricorn) and interests me (Virgo, Leo). This book is a fun, light and enjoyable read if you're into astrology. I find it is somewhat accurate when it comes to personality descriptions but nothing to be taken too seriously.
This is the best astrology book that I have ever read. It is easy to read and understand and has lots of pages devoted to each sign. I went through and hilighted all the qualities that I recognized in lovers and friends. I have read it many times, and each time I pick up something that I didn't before.
I've owned this book for many years and used to take it off the shelf and look up signs for a quick analysis on pairings of different signs. It's striking to see a great deal of personality traits and quirks ring true for those I know that fall under the signs. I think it might be due time to look through again!
a bit patronising and downright victim blaming in some parts but an overall really good description of each zodiac sign makes up for it. the book is not really about relationships or lovers, don’t be fooled by the title. it’s a book about zodiac signs.
This is an accessible book with apt and humorous portrayals of each sun sign. Greene's illumination of each sign's 'shadow' is unique in this respect. Liz Greene is a truly gifted astrologer, but this is not her greatest text. I'd recommend Greene's 'Saturn' or 'Neptune' if you desire something even more insightful. Worth a read for anyone curious about astrology.
I’ve read almost everything Liz Greene has written, and I learned something from them all. What keeps me reading is her seamless blend of psychology and Jung with astrology, and a well-honed dry wit. It’s good, straight-forward stuff.
Me mate gave it to me . Im gemini and this is the first thing it said about me. " its said that gemini is one of the easiest signs to recognize. In first place, gemini usually talk a lot....." total bullocks ! Kidding i do talk a lot.
Ms. Greene writes so beautifully and intelligently about the astrological signs' impact on human behavior and motives - she is sort of like a poet-psychotherapist.
This book is so accurate it's scary!! You wanna know anything about why you other half is the way he is, and you believe in astrology, then this is the right book got you.
