5☆ The passion for dancing oozes throughout the book it's simply delicious!

First of all I want to start by saying how much i love the cover for Foxtrot in Freshby. It's visually eye catching and captivating.

I adore dancing, ballroom is one of my favourites, I've done the Tango, Jive, Waltz so when I see this book I just had to read it. What a fabulous title.

Foxtrot in Freshby is an enchanting read about dancing, New Beginnings, relationships, Romance, friendship, rilvary, intimidation and mystery.

When Gina's world comes crashing down around her after she finds out her boyfriend cheated on her with her best friend she is devastated.

But with a gorgeous home her Grandmother left her and her passion for dancing she decides to clear out her room and open up a dance studio where she will teach the Argentine Tango ( one of my favourite dances)

She is determined not to let her ex's betrayal lead to her losing her beloved home.
Everything for Gina has changed but she is embracing her changes and moving on.

Just as Gina starts to move on, rival dance studio owner is not about to let Gina open and steal her students.
Gina tries to reason with them as she is offering classes different to them.
But things are about to turn sinister as things start to happen and Gina gets threats.

Gina's head is about to me turned when in walks Chris.  Chris is handsome, kind, mysterious and a policeman and he wants to take her to the policeman ball.
Can he sweep Gina off her feet?

I was completely blown away by this enchanting story of romance, mystery, friendship and rilvary.
The passion for dancing oozes throughout the book it's simply delicious!
I loved the characters, the romance... in fact there isn't anything I don't like.

If you have a passion for dancing and romance with a mystery twist you will love Foxtrot in Freshby. I Highly recommend!

Thank you to Brook Cottage for this copy which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Gina Pendleton, a freelance dance teacher broke up with her boyfriend of three years after she found out that he cheated on her with her own best friend. Finding a way to earn enough money to keep running the house and pay the bills on her own, she decided to use her inherited dance genes from her Gran to convert her lounge into a dance school few nights a week, offering Argentine tango classes to her students.

But when she met Chris Jackson and asked her to be her dance partner for their upcoming New Year's Ball, everything turned upside down. Could Gina trust him to take slow, small steps and walk with Chris or are there secrets that will make her quick running, two-step away from him?

The first time I heard about this book, I fell in love with the stunning cover illustration because truly, it had worked it's magic on me. Foxtrot in Freshby gave me the impression of a deep connection and a romance with a nice ring to it, it was intoxicating, to say the least. But I never expected that the story was far more than what I felt it looked like.

I love how Awen Thornber was able to twist the story like tango, sway the complexity of both the main and supporting characters like salsa and ending it with a bang like cha-cha. She made sure that you will jive in with your dancing shoes and feel the excitement of the rhythm to her every word.

Foxtrot in Freshby is thrilling, unexpectedly surprising with grace and beauty to its storyline leaving readers breathless and puzzled to the extent of finding an answer to a riddle—‘Could he possibly do it?’.

The build up suspense was brilliant. The questions were endless and I never got the slightest clue who did it or where will the story be taking me. I suspected the wrong person, doubt the wrong people and the end game has even taken it's desired point.

If you want to read something that will make you find your beat and groove along to the music with cathartic drama and suspense, I recommend you read this book and find for yourself.

***Thank you to Awen Thornber for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review!

My press kit for this tour called this book “romance with intrigue” – what a perfect description, and what a lovely read this was. The romance element is just beautifully done. I’ve always been quite partial to a man in uniform, and Chris – with his initial shyness and hidden depths – is just perfect. And I loved Gina – after a horrendous time with her ex, I really enjoyed the whole storyline about the setting up of her dance studio, and her opposition from the established dance teacher. The people in this book are just wonderful, a whole range of colourful and well-drawn characters all drawn to Gina’s warm personality – I just loved the flamboyant Darren and his young-at-heart partner Doreen, the lovely Richard (and his dog) encountered in the dunes, her wonderful friends at the corner shop.

There’s a nice edge of darkness in the vandalism thread, with a well-handled mystery around its instigator, with a few red herrings strategically placed along the way. And I just loved the dance elements – particularly the competition itself, the search for a suitable place to practice, and Chris’ reasons for wanting to do well. The writing is excellent – I sat down at 4, emerged again at 6.30, and my first thought was “I really enjoyed this one”. I’m sure others who read it will love it too – I’ll look forward to reading more from Awen Thornber.

Foxtrot in Freshby follows Gina Pendleton as she tries to get her life back after throwing out her boyfriend, Tony. As a dance teacher, she decides that her front room would make the ideal place to put on dance lessons. When Chris is roped into helping her with a little furniture removal it offers her a chance at a new happiness but is everything as it seems with him?

This is a sweet romance story with an edge to it as Gina has to put up with a campaign of intimidation against her which obviously scares her witless. But it's ultimately a story of overcoming the past to build a brighter future. It's also about Gina learning to stand up for herself and not be walked all over.

I enjoyed the dancing elements of the story and Gina's romance with Chris, who's a pretty good dancer himself. I particularly liked Chris as a character and could well understand why Gina was attracted to him (unlike the loathsome Tony!). Other well-drawn characters were Shelley and Geoff, Gina's good friends.

This is a book that will appeal to those who enjoy a love story with a bit of mystery thrown in. There are the usual misunderstandings and ups and downs between Gina and Chris and I was hoping all the way through that love would win the day.

I found Foxtrot in Freshby to be a pleasant and easy read, and a lovely introduction to Awen Thornber's writing.

Having already read Awen Thornber's "Threads of Awen" anthology, I was super excited to delve into her first novel; I wasn't disappointed! "Foxtrot" is a brilliantly written tale of love, loss, trust, sacrifice and the burning passion that is dance. The characters are believable and animated, the twists and turns will keep you on the tips of your dancing toes. What will Awen Thornber come up with next?

This was a refreshing, lighthearted and hopeful book to wrap up 2020 with. Thank goodness, considering what a horrendous year it has been. I loved escaping to Freshby and meeting all the well-developed and interesting characters woven into this story.

When Gina finds out her common-law and best friend are having an affair with each other, it's like a sucker punch to her gut. Unfortunately, she's got a lot of other challenges in store too. Career standstills, financial woes and mysterious break-ins around Freshby aren't helping matters at all.

Enter Chris, a handsome man in uniform who just so happens to know the steps to Gina's heart. Of course, things aren't always as simple as they appear, and real world issues impact our dancing duo as they navigate intrigue, small town community dynamics and family issues.

I enjoyed this book and so will fans of Sophie Kinsella and Catherine Alliott.

For someone who's got two left feet, I enjoyed Foxtrot in Freshby. It's just the type of quiet read for this fraught time of year and it sent me into a world I knew nothing about : dancing.
The author obviously enjoys a jive or two (not forgetting a foxtrot) as her enthusiasm is clear on every page. But don't expect it to be all sparkles and ballroom dresses, the novel has just the right number of questions to keep the reader on tenterhooks about whether Gina's ex-husband will cause havoc and just what is the secret that Chris is keeping?

Awen Thornber is a new author to me and I don't often read romances but, when I was getting ready to go on holiday, I chose Foxtrot in Freshby to take with me.

Foxtrot in Freshby tells the story of dance teacher Gina Pendleton. She finds her boyfriend cheating with the person she thought was her best friend. As a result of this she throws her cheating boyfriend out of her house, which she inherited from her beloved grandmother. Unfortunately this means she has lost his contribution to the house and must find a way of earning extra money to pay her bills.

She decides to turn her large livingroom into a dance studio and run dance classes at her home. Her new friends who own the local store suggest a source of large mirrors that she needs to complete the look of the dance studio. When they come round to deliver the mirrors their freind Chris Jackson comes with them. Gina finds Chris very attractive. She even discovers he can dance when he invites her to his annual works nught out.

Gina's new dance class incurs the wrath of the owner of the local well-established dance school and her life becomes even more fraught when she is targeted by vandals and intruders.

Chris is charming and very protective of Gina. So, it doesn’t take her long to realise that he is the man of her dreams, especially as he’s a wonderful dancing partner and willing to enter a major dancing competition as her partner. However, she becomes aware tha Chris is hiding something from her. As a result of this, she feels she cannot trust him. It amazes her to discover his secret when Chris turns up at her dance class unexpectedly.

Foxtrot in Freshby is a really good book for book groups and has an unexpected twist at the end. It will definitely appeal to everybody who enjoys watching 'Strictly Come Dancing' and 'Dancing with the Stars' as well as those who just enjoy a fine romance.

I won a copy of Foxtrot in Freshby from the author Awen Thornber and was thrilled to be able to read and review.
Romance isn’t normally the genre I read – I’m more of a fantasy fan – but that doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy a change! Change is good for the soul! I absolutely loved the cover art on this novel – it’s so beautiful. The vibrancy of the colours are fantastic. The story itself is well written, a lovely romance tale between dance teacher Gina and policeman Chris.
What makes it slightly different from other romance novels I have read are two aspects:
The mystery element to the narrative which keeps you guessing.
The dancing scenes.
Both of these aspects added an extra dimension which I enjoyed.
If you enjoy romance, ballroom dancing, rivalry and a touch of mystery you will enjoy this novel.
Recommended.
My rating: 4 stars.

As one who strives to perfect her dance moves, I was immediately attracted to this title.

After throwing out her cheating partner, Gina strives to earn a living from teaching the foxtrot. But she is soon sought out by a new admirer, who turns out to be have hidden talents himself. Romance simmers between Chris and Gina on the dance floor but things are not that straightforward elsewhere.

The plot plays out with enough twists and questions to keep you page turning, and the dance element gives a fresh take on the romance. A very enjoyable read.

I know very little about dancing a Foxtrot, but it seems to me that Foxtrot in Freshby is a dance with faster interludes, some dragging of feet and sharp twists. It was an engaging read with easy to like characters and a sweet ending. It's very easy to picture that man Chris in uniform! The pace of the story reflects slow dance moves when Chris' intentions are unknown to Gina, there are plenty of turns mirroring Gina's emotions, all interspersed with the quicker steps of fledgling love.

I raced through this book in two days - and coming from someone who doesn't like dancing, that's saying something! The writing was beautiful, the characters were real and the cliffhanger chapter endings kept me eagerly reading on. Looking forward to more from this author in the future.
