SOPHIE

Since the moment I saw his face, my life has been in chaos. I don't know his name, but still I see him night after night-his striking face appearing in my dream. Is it a portent of things to come, warning me to run from him? Or could it mean something else? I can't seem to make any sense of it, and lately, my idyllic life hasn't been so idyllic. I can't tell my parents about these impossible things I can do because I don't want to see that fear in their eyes-the same fear I feel growing stronger in me every day. So instead of running, I make the decision to trust him. I let him calm my fear while I confront truths I'd rather keep hidden. Still, I can't tell him that my greatest fear is the little time we have left. Soon, I'll have to watch him walk away.

ZACH

I've done some things I'm not proud of, but who hasn't? Okay, maybe I've done a few more than most, but these days I don't give into those distractions. Especially when I feel the consequences in ways nobody could ever understand. Now, I occupy my time by going where I'm needed. I keep things calm and controlled while helping them see the hard choices they'll have to make. I've done it countless times. Except nothing about this girl is like those other times. There's more for her to fear than just these strange, but extraordinary things she can do-she also has a past she doesn't even know about yet. So even if she would prefer to keep me at a distance, I simply can't let that happen. I need to know her secrets and keep her safe. It's what I do. I'm the empath.

Books have been an intrinsic part of my life since I was a little girl; the proof of this rests on the shelves of my private library. I worked as a manager at Borders Books while earning my English degree and was happily employed with them for more than ten years until they closed their doors permanently. During my time there, I got to see firsthand how young adult books transformed from a tiny pocket of shelves near the kids’ department, to a fully formed genre with its own subsections and trends. I’ve swooned for Mr. Darcy, yearned with Gatsby, and loved every word ever written by William Shakespeare… so my love affair with books isn’t singular to the young adult genre. I have to say, though, what really keeps pulling me back to YA is the complexity and possibility of a younger character tackling real adult themes.
The years of literary swooning culminated into an idea that would eventually become Sophie and Zach’s story, Transference. It lived with me for some time until I finally decided to sit down and write it. I am so happy to be able to share it with you!
I am still writing their story, so there is definitely more to come. When I am not writing fiction, I am most likely tackling a paper for my Master’s program in Shakespeare and Theatre from The Shakespeare Institute at the University of Birmingham, England. Remember how I mentioned my private library? Well, most of that real estate belongs to William Shakespeare. When I am not extensively writing for school or for Zach and Sophie, I enjoy movies, music, cooking, and spending time with my family.

Thank you to the author for sending me a free copy of this book.

This book was intriguing from the very beginning. I wanted to know what was going on in Sophie's mind, and what her dreams meant.

Sophie was a decent character, but my favorite character was Zach. From the moment he entered the story, I wanted to know more about him.

I didn't understand why Sophie continued to hold back from Zach for most of the story. I just wanted her to trust him completely. They still had a lot of cute moments together though.

One aspect that made this book fun was how unpredictable the plot was. Everything would seem pretty normal, and then all of a sudden something crazy would happen.

My main critique of this book would be the side characters. I just didn't care about any of them even though I wanted to care.

I can't wait to read the next book in this series because I want to know what happens next!
