This was such a fun read! The characters lept off the page! I was constantly cracking up throughout. It was a great escape right now with all the craziness in the world. Your worry will just wash away as you are taken into this comedic world of dating woes, crazy friends and an unbelievable booty call. Take a break from everything and immerse yourself in this fun read!
This book was so real and raw. Having listened to the authors podcast Lit Ladies Lounge and listening to her audiobooks I read this book in her voice and it really added to my overall experience reading the book.
Is chivalry dead? How many bad dates can a women go on before losing all hope? This book takes you on a journey from one crazy, bad date to another. At times you shake your head, laugh because this can’t be how a man acts and you are rooting for Renèe to finally go out with a gentleman who knows how to treat a lady. Good thing I was reading this book in air conditioning, it got a little hot and steamy at times too 😉. I enjoyed this book from cover to cover and you will too.
This book is hilarious because of the author’s sense of humor and dedication to searching for the one. Sad because the dating scenarios were pure hell. Lucky the author didn’t go insane, but I haven’t read book 2, so the jury is still out, lol. This read is perfect for anyone who enjoys reading about online and in-person dating fails.
This book reminds me of ladies nights after a few drinks. It was very conversational and the dating stories were just hilarious and awful at the same time.
I didn’t like that her co-workers thought that she was basically there for their amusement to laugh at her experiences. But other than that, the story was enjoyable.
Lord I hope this author finally gets to tell a GOOD dating story for her own sanity, lol.
What a wild ride between friendship, strong family ties, and the most horrific situations I have ever heard of this girl has been through it all! I cannot wait to jump into book 2, but that’s gonna have to wait till the new year. This book had me questioning how the human race has got to this point do men not woo women anymore? Do we not have pride in our homes, ourselves, our clothing, and just overall cleanliness lol she cracks me up to no end. I will read anything you write.
This is a great. I can’t believe how this beautiful girl gets so many bad apples. Her stories had me crying with laughter. One of those books you just have to keep reading to hear just one more story, then another and another until it’s 3 am. Contact her personally for a signed copy. This girl is going to be famous
If you, like most people this year, need a good laugh and a lighthearted read, you need to buy this book. Ms. Mason shares her cringingly awful dating disasters with such entertaining prose, you will not be sorry. You may even broaden your vocabulary *snackbox*. I can’t wait for the author-read audiobook (hint hint).
Best book I have read in years. Easy and fun. I was reading it at the lake and laughing like a fool. Sadly, THIS is real.datimg, so knowing others have had ridiculous dates like this and can still have hope is awesome. Read it!
Not for the faint of heart! This girl has seen some things. It's good to be able to enjoy dating disasters vicariously. This book made my face turn pink, while I had to go back and read a few things, cause no way, she didn't...oh yes, she did.
I was completely entertained from the first paragraph. The characters and scenarios were both realistic and well thought out. It was funny and witty and I couldn't put it down. Absolutely a must read!!! I would definitely recommend this book to my friends.
This book was like having a girls night with your best friend - the stories were honest, relatable, and hilarious. It had me laughing out loud and turning the page for more. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a night in laughing along as the author details her crazy dating stories. Highly recommend for anyone, whether you're in a relationship or single. I guarantee you won't be disappointed!
Y’all this book was hilarious and terrifying all at the same time lol.
Mason is such a good, fun story teller, and I was laughing right along side her adventures. Wonderful friends, a BFF for a mom, and some seriously nutty dates.
I picked this read up because I was genuinely curious just how bad the authors dating life could be. I connected with her on social media and found myself wanting to know more based on her fun personality.
Let me state the good parts. The writing is conversational, comfortable, and has great flow. The stories are interesting and well laid out.
What I didn't like: First, let me state that I don't read romance. I'll read practically everything else, but nothing with sex in it. Or any mention of sexual acts. This book was too much information in the department of sex for me. Not sure how I missed all the warnings.
I can't fault the author for my issues, but maybe I can save someone else from picking this up who wouldn't normally read this type of thing and avoid the author receiving a bad review because of a difference of taste. It's not quite erotica, but it's definitely not chaste.
Overall, when I overlook the parts that are personally irritating, I can't fault the book itself. It's a solid story, written well, and suits it's preferred audience.
OMG, Best book I read in years. I laughed so hard I cried, and we all need to laugh like this in 2020. I can not wait for a sequel. Any women who has went on a date in their lifetime will appreciate this book. Any man who wants to know what women really want should read this book.
This isn't my typical genre but it pulled me in and had me laughing from the first page. It made me thankful I'm out of the dating game....and a lesbian! I felt like a close friend gossiping about bad dates and I loved it! I'm ready for book 2 though I feel bad the author has had this many horrible experiences to even make 1 book! But it left me with a cliffhanger and I neeeeed to know!
Ratings 4.7 Just the idea of staying single to most of us makes them anxious. Well that includes me too. I really thought it was so but thanks to the book I just read. The book is called "How Is This My Life: Confessions of a Sane Single Woman". So here is my experience while reading the book. Starting with the title of the book "How Is This My Life: Confessions of a Sane Single Woman". It's a very relevant title that gives a little idea about the content of the book. I feel it's a perfect fit because the idea which a viewer gets after reading it is unique. Cover on the other hand is a creative one and I feel it compliments the title of the book also it enhances the outer appearance of the book. So I would give it a 2/2 for the title and the cover. Talking about the content of the book, basically the book is based on authors life, it may sound like a journal to you right now but what I experienced while reading it was not at all the less than a funny, happening and an influential story. You know when I started reading it, it really surprised me because the things, short situations mentioned and explained were just like they sometimes happen in our lives its just we don't react to them the author did. The way of dealing with situations was so close that it gave a realistic touch. The connection book establishes with you is somewhat close and best part is apart from fun author did really gave lessons, empowered and gave relevance to little details we miss in life although it was all the way one see it but I could really feel the journey. I just loved everything about the book, I wish it was some kind of a video/movie/vlogs I could see with my friends. I am sure it would get a really amazing fan base. After I was 30 pages down I felt like I wanted to read this with my friends and I have recommended it to many of my friends personally and I would definitely want you all to read it because the experience you would get an incredible experience and I can guarantee that. So for the content of the book i would give it a 1.7/2. Talking about the words and the language used in the book, the language used is quite friendly and a very general one. The language used is something that would help the book connect with you. In terms of the book personally I didn't face any difficulty while reading the book. The editing was done nicely which gave a smooth flow while reading the book. So if you haven't bought it yet what are you guys waiting for go grab your copy.
From the cringe-worthy disaster dates that had me screaming “omg no!!!” Over and over to the nights spent with Diego 😏, I truly enjoyed every minute of the book!
Perfect for anyone who has known the horrors of modern dating.
Let’s also talk about what a phenomenal storyteller J.R. Is because it flowed so well and the stories were so vivid! I felt like I was sitting around her fire pit drinking way too much wine while she told me these stories.
It was a great time and I can’t wait to read her upcoming work!
I don’t know if J.R. Mason is tied with or has me beat in the hilariously horrific dating life experience category. Soooo many dead-end first dates that don’t lead to a second. I’m not usually in the habit of annotating, but I had to for this memoir. Most of the tabs are instances where I can relate and/or DM’d her my comments.
Can I relate to friends & family requesting dating anecdotes for their amusement? Yes. Can I relate to dating men who do the absolute least but expect the most? Yes. Can I relate to having an escape plan for bad dates? Yes. Can I relate to dating men who were born and raised in these here United States of America and not being able to read, speak or text proper English to carry a conversation? Why, yes. Yes, I can. Can I relate to having various nicknames for my lady parts? No. No, I can’t…well, kinda. 😊
Somehow, J.R. still has the audacity of hope. There even seems to be a small glimmer at the end…We shall see what happens in the sequel, which I own and have already transferred my bookmark to start reading.
Read more of my thoughts on my blog justsherring.com, complete with links to posts of my own dating disasters. Sigh.
No spoilers here or there. Y’all will have to read about menfolks’ ridiculousness on your own. It’s a fun and conversational tone. Be careful reading in public. You will have facial and audible reactions.
I truly enjoyed this book! This author’s laugh-out-loud way of dishing the literal in’s & outs of date life was great. I loved the authors conversational approach to storytelling. Now all we need is BET to pick it up for a series!
This is a must have book that you just cannot put down! It is beyond words hysterically comical. Jerraya nailed every chapter that made me want more! I am so blessed to call her my friend and proud of her amazing life accomplishments. Looking forward to your next chapter and hoping we get a book 2. 💖
This was like listening to a series of stories while having a drink at girl's night! It is a easy and hilarious read, and I'm sure it will resonate with most women who have been on the dating scene at one point or another. It doesn't disappoint!
This book is absolutely hilarious! Such a fun and easy read and certainly makes me feel a WHOLE lot better about my own personal dating life. I don’t know where she finds these men! I really enjoyed this book.
This book had me laughing, cringing, and rooting for the main character every step of the way. The journey of navigating the ups and downs of dating in the modern world was both hilarious and relatable, especially when the protagonist had what seemed like one bad date after another. I couldn't help but feel for her as she waded through awkward encounters and mismatched connections, all while keeping a sense of humor about it.
Throughout the book, I found myself hoping she would finally find her person. By the end, I started to get a strong feeling about who that person might be—the one who really opened up towards the end. Their connection felt genuine, and I’m excited to see how everything unfolds between them. I’m looking forward to the next chapter in her journey, and I truly hope she gets the happy ending she deserves.
If you're looking for a lighthearted read with plenty of laughs and heart, this book is definitely worth checking out. I can't wait to see where her story goes from here!
Good Lawd! In the words of Tyce, “man, I’m glad I’m married and not dealing with this kind of dumbness”. J.R. Mason stands by her testimony that this book is full of real life stories, hilarious ones that are sad and embarrassing for us men. I hope every brother depicted in this book read it, clearly saw themselves and had a real come to Jesus moment. 🤦🏽♂️
I laughed non stop during the house party. That entire scene made me relive some of the most hilarious conversations of my life, when women are just women and talk their ‘ish. If you EVER get to be a fly on the wall in a space like that, take it! If not, pick up this book and read that scene from start to finish, twice. You will learn that men are not the only ones wired for “the hunt”!
… and the shoe store. He-Larry-Us! J.R., you are goofy my friend.
I didn’t see the happy ending coming, but it did. But, the fact that J.R. is single now means that damn Diego messed up somewhere down the line. Oh well, book 2 is on my never ending TBR list. Smh.

This was an interesting read and by “interesting,” I mean it needed a heavy editorial pass and a second pair of eyes.
The biggest issue is that it feels like every thought the author had, made it onto the page. There are multiple moments and events that were necessary to the story in my opinion . At times, it reads like the main character already has enough going on, yet the author keeps stacking more on top just because she can. Hella “this could’ve been cut” energy.
Then there are the friends! So many friends. Too many friends. The MC has a rotating cast of minor characters who get introduced, disappear, and then randomly reappear like I was supposed to remember them. By the time some of them came back around, I was genuinely thinking, “Wait… who is this again?” A tighter circle would’ve helped a lot. Four core friends max and a sister. Keep it simple. Two from college, two from work. Done.
That said, the highlight of this book is that it is funny as hell. Genuine laugh out loud moments carried a lot of the reading experience for me and kept it entertaining even when the plot was doing the most.
Overall, it’s not unreadable, but it’s messy in execution and overstuffed in structure. It feels like a story that needed to be tightened, not expanded.
Fun, frolics and snackaholics! As a writer of ‘selectively enhanced’ romantic memoir myself, I’ve read a few books in this space. I was attracted to this book partly because the author appears so unlike me; different race, gender and cultural background, but sharing some common ground of dating frustrations ... and clearly the sense of humour that goes with it. Being male, I’m fascinated by women’s perceptions, and I thoroughly enjoyed the journey through such a broad range of male failings ... I almost ended up with a checklist to see whether I could meet the grade myself! Despite encountering a few phrases where my ‘translation ability’ was deficient, I was thoroughly entertained as I imagined myself in the shoes of each suitor. Oh, and speaking of shoes, the shoe-shopping vibe was sublime ... and after Diego and the porch shenanigans, getting a ‘snack at a drive-thru’ takes on a whole new meaning.
