The turtles and mutanimals bits were perfect, the bobop and rocksteady stuff is getting a bit tired though and pulls the book down a bit.

Really strong entry in the series. There wasn’t one particular thing that stood out or was super well done, but there was always something shining.
If the action wasn’t good, the story was. If the story wasn’t good, the art was. If the art wasn’t good, the comedy/writing was. Etc etc.
Some twists and turns and unexpected moments, and ended on a very bittersweet Christmas tale.

This is still my favorite ongoing comic series today. This volume wraps up the universe series with some strong final issues. We get decent plot progression in the main series issues and the macro one shots stand as some of my favorite issues in the series. The bepop and rocksteady mini series was too long. I am tired of their hi-jinks and was bored by those five issues. The completest in me is happy they are included but I will but skipping the issues in future rereads.

Another great volume. Some really powerful issues. Didn’t love the Bebop and Rocksteady mini (although I enjoyed parts of it), but the rest of this was pretty spot on and exciting. Once again, this is an incredible series.

This volume had a few points of high level drama. The next volume is so ripely set up with the closing issues and I’m going to roll right into it. Also, Bebop and Rocksteady Hit the Road is a little goofy but seriously, these are great characters especially when you compare them to many of the stupid villains in comics.

Further with the Foot, Fantasticly Peak Side Stories!

The Future of The Foot Clan is explored in interesting depth from many characters perspectives.

We get some of the best Turtle stories ever in here, specifically Leonardo's micro-series!!

Art is pheneomenal the whole time and the writing is so fascinating, hilarious, and tearjerking all around.

This continuously proves to be THE best TMNT timeline and series ever.

I've stated this elsewhere but this still feels like the 80-90s Claremont X-Men in terms of long term storylines by the same creators (with returning artists). You really don't see this anywhere else in modern superhero comics with constant restarts/creative changes or slow publishing schedules.

I can't recommend this as a place to start but for those enjoying the series it's just so consistent and builds upon years of continuity.

If there's any criticism it's that the cast has become so large that even with the constant miniseries, there really isn't enough room for everyone, so characters like April and Casey Jones are barely present any more.

Just great superhero comics.

The Short Answer
An incredibly solid collection of Ninja Turtles comics that presents the most consistent quality the series has seen since issue 50. The Beebop and Rocksteady story is as raucous as the original, so it may not be to everyone's taste, but the rest of the collection is a perfect blend of humour and emotion.

The Long Answer
While I really enjoy the IDW Ninja Turtles series, I have found the last few volumes to be rather hit or miss. Some sections like the second Ghostbusters crossover have been amazing, others like the Trial of Krang have been borderline painful to read. A lot of it however has been like the Invasion of the Triceratons. Decent, but short and undercooked. Fun, but nothing you'd go back to. The series was starting to feel a little like it was treading water. Yes, there's the upcomings stories of the Pantheon, and there's some family drama going on with Splinter, but something was missing.

Thankfully this collection sees the series really right the ship. The book starts out with three Michelangelo stories, two of which feature Mondo Gecko. These are incredibly fun and powerful adventures. I generally don't care too much for Mondo Gecko so it was a surprise to see him suddenly getting such good writing. If they keep using him this well I could fall in love with him pretty quick.

The rest of the stories follow suit. The EPF raid on Triceraton territory is more interesting than the original invasion, there is an excellent story with Leo and Karai, and a touching Splinter Christmas story.

The only questionable area is the Beebop and Rocksteady series. It's written in the same vein as their original series, so if you liked that, you'll love this. I personally really enjoyed it. I couldn't do more than a miniseries of this kind of writing, but I found it to be a refreshing change of pace that had me smiling throughout. There is a scene where they are flying a spaceship to New York but they keep getting lost. So they end up flying along the freeway and manage to get stuck in traffic because they are too clueless to just fly above the traffic. All while bickering like an old married couple. If that makes you smile, you'll have fun. If you just rolled your eyes, well sorry, this'll bore ya.

Overall this is a fantastic collection. If you've come this far don't stop! I know the last few volumes were only OK, but this one is excellent! I'm very excited to read the next one and see how they handle their hundredth issue.

I'm now creeping closer and closer to where I left off when I was reading this series in single issues. It's been quite a while since I saw the monumental events that played out so I'm looking forward to seeing how I feel about them on a second read.

As for this volume, for the most part it was decent. It wasn't as enjoyable as volume 11 but the Ongoing and Universe issues kept me entertained and told a good story.

Mikey continues to be a standout in terms of what IDW have done with his character, as much as I love the care-free party animal I love the more serious side he shows off.

We got something of a conclusion to an arc that has been going on for a while. There's still fallout to come after a big reveal but it was good to see an end to one character's continued struggles. The fact that a very different character didn't get the end they wanted wasn't lost on me and I wonder how they'll cope going forward.

The couple of Leo centric issues really highlighted where his mindset is at. He's never been a favourite of mine but the burdens on him in this iteration are immense so I like when we check in with him.

The take on A Christmas Carol was better than it sounded like it would be. I won't say more because of spoilers but at least it wasn't just a throwaway issue, it was a last shot at redemption for a character who I doubt will ever change their ways

And after all that positivity we come to the 5 part mini, Bepop and Rocksteady Hit the Road. I really didn't enjoy this. At this point it's becoming same old, same old with the pair of them and it's getting tedious. I was really looking forward to them being in the book but if the writers aren't going to give them something to do I'd prefer they stop devoting minis to them or write them out of the book altogether. It really derailed both my enjoyment and progress through the book because it made me want to stop reading

Easily one of the better volumes. The main plot written by Eastman and Waltz is well paced and has a ton of great twists and turns as the EPF invades the Triceraton/Utrom haven on Burnow Island, and the side stories are all phenomenal.

Ian Flynn is the standout writer here. His story focused on Michelangelo finally standing up to his father is *hands down* one of the most powerful stories this series has ever had. Everyone here feels in character and it feels great for someone to finally call out how Splinter's actions the past few books have completely flown against the morals he taught his sons. Flynn's story in TMNT Universe also expands the world by having Leonardo explore the Astral Plane and how it functions. The way artist Daniel Nelson illustrates Leo's focus and how otherworldly the Astral Plane is is fantastic and I really hope this is how the Plane is depicted from now on.

Ben Bates and Dustin Weaver return for another hilarious romp with Bebop & Rocksteady Hit the Road. Weaver stays as the story's main artist and the action scenes he composes are kinetic and easy to follow. We also get an interesting new character in the form of Agent Ravenwood, a far more capable and empathetic agent of the EPF who I hope sticks around. The EPF has mainly been an antagonistic force and having a character who prefers to handle things peacefully is a welcome change.

Lastly we have Sophie Campbell return to write and draw a Leonardo focused story that aims to set up Karai's return to New York. It's full of great action between Leo and Koya and promises a bombastic finale for the 100th issue of TMNT.

All around this is a great collection that fleshes out the world and characters, but also has some great turn-your-brain-off action. If you've fallen off this series since TMNT #50, this isn't a bad place to pick it back up.

Splinter continues his reign of terror as ninja cult leader and world's worst dad. Michaelangelo is fed up, and Leonardo struggles to keep the peace between the Foot and Hamato Clans. Then the story pivots to Agent Bishop's ongoing feud with the Utrom and Triceraton coalition. We then get a zany Bebop and Rocksteady roadtrip. The story returns to Leo's struggles with leading his brothers through the tumultuous change in power hierarchy in New York. And finally there is the TMNT version of the "Christmas Carol" with Splinter playing the role of Ebenezer Scrooge and he finally sees what he has done wrong.

In all honesty, the only decent issues were the Michaelangelo and Leonardo one-shots. They do a great job propelling the main series forward while building on the characterization of both brothers. The Mutanimals plot wasn't the strongest, but it does end on a pretty tragic note that was quite compelling. Everything else in this volume is either filler or boring filler. The Bebop and Rocksteady miniseries was pretty unreadable, and the Universe issues with Agent Bishop were a rather dry read. The final issue with Splinter coming around also felt like tonal whiplash given how much more dour the previous issues were. It seems like a bit of a cop out to have Splinter come around in a parody (or homage) to a classic Christmas fable, as opposed to letting it happen more organically. In general, this was another weak volume that only had a handful of issues I enjoyed.

my biggest issue with this series is how many spinoffs there are which can, at times, detract from otherwise great volumes to an extent. the main story here with the Bishop arc reaching a breaking point was REALLY good. as was the stuff near the end dealing with the turtles and their relationship with their father at this time. but the bebop and rock steady arc felt like a randomly long piece of filler shoehorned into the middle. it wasn't bad, but it felt much weaker than the rest.

Incredible issues in this. Final issue of Universe is fantastic. I love Slash so much. Mikey has some great stuff in here too. It's maybe the best volume in a long while. And then we get another Bebop and Rocksteady mini...

Please stop those. I really can't stand them. I don't even mind them as villains or as characters as a whole, but the minis they are in are just so boring.

I didn't care as much about the Bebop and Rocksteady story, but the alien stuff and seeing Ch'rell I found entertaining. And it was great seeing Michelangelo defend others when Splinter made a bad call.

Loving the Macro series in here the most, the Bebop and Rocksteady story... not so much, would've been a higher rating without it haha.

TMNT vol. 12

Another great read, great book. Our heroes face the god and their father and men in black and keep on fighting. Hero's in a half shell always.

Wooohooo the turtles are back, Mickey has brilliant moments and clan Hamato back him in full. The ending of this book is beautiful plus bigger and badder than ever bebop and rocksteady hit the road!

Still some skippable issues, but for the most part this volume was pretty good. My favourite issue was the Christmas issue at the end
