Skharr DeathEater #2

The Unrestrained

Rate this book
Skharr has made powerful enemies, but what’s new about that? A Noble wants revenge, and Skharr DeathEater has upset at least one noble willing to pay a high price to kill him. Painfully. Skharr is living in an inn, having spent a large sum of money on a weapon—one he never intends to use. Now, for reasons that have everything to do with trusting the wisdom of another, Skharr has decided to take a gamble on another dungeon. It appears once a year, and every year, the hundreds who enter die. Can he find this dungeon? And if he finds it, can he make it through? Once the door closes, there is only one way out. No one will need to worry about Skharr DeathEater if the dungeon kills him first. One should know a DeathEater will always need killing…twice.

“In every person there is a bit of barbarian waiting to be unleashed. A moment when one must decide what one is willing to accept. Death, defeat, or allow one’s carnal rage to take control and consequences be damned.” Skharr DeathEater

3.5 not bad, though I wish Micah had been exposed as one of the villains.

3.5 Created A Cacophony Called Business Stars

The Unrestrained is the second novel in the Skharr DeathEater series by Michael Anderle.

I love the political intrigue imparted through the first few pages of this book. And he comeuppance that these motions set bring to pass. Also, more pilgrim/thief beat downs in this book. I would’ve missed them if they hadn’t yet again said some stupidly boastful lie about past encounters with Skharr.

The dungeon crawl this time around was far too fast-paced. It didn’t disappoint in the I degree of creativity within the individual challenges and fights our MC faced. Except that I wish the fighting was described differently, or rather more in depth(?).

I didn’t much like the ending either. That Skharr never hides Horse, makes it obvious that Horse will have to find a more permanent and safe home before his next (probably more intense and deadly) escapades. But it still felt forced. Especially since I didn’t realize I was so far into the conclusion of this edition in the story. I’m also rather upset that we don’t get to see the Dwarven stronghold nearby. Which better be in the next book. Don’t be stingy.

That paired with the rather open-ended(ness) of Micah, Sera’s sister’s involvement in the plot against Skharr’s life. Like oops, guess he didn’t die, and we won’t tell him she was part of it, but it’s okay he only wants revenge against the person who bought the contract for the assassin? Hmph 😤

I enjoyed this installment more than the first. Skharr runs into a few friends from the first novel, but they do not occupy a large part of this book. The book starts with Skharr finding more work from the guild, and he finds a new dungeon ro explore, with other treasure hunters. This task plays a major role in this one, and is thoroughly entertaining. I’ve seen comparisons to this being a Conan the Barbarian story, and that is totally fair. If you want a Conan adventure, you won’t be disappointed.

Excellent book

It's a very good book very well written, and it's fun to watch skhaar wander around get in trouble. One of the more enjoyable things about it as he can think, and he can appreciate absurdity in life.

It's definitely not a waste of money. excellent book you you will enjoy it!

Nice

Why are nobles represented as idiots? It just doesn't speak well for the intelligence of the people they rule. Even one of the more intelligent nobles in the story did something incredibly stupid! Anyway enough ranting, this was a thoroughly enjoyable tale of violence. Loved it!

Entertaining Story

The first three quarters was a very entertaining fast paced action packed read, the last quarter was a little contrived. The scenes seamed forced and were a little weird. Hiding in a wedding dress? Five guys who were beaten a few times already going into the place he is famously staying? IDK

Another day, another dungeon.

Skharr is back but now he is well known, and not always in a good way. In fact someone is out for his blood, just as the opportunity to delve the depths of another dungeon comes up. Luckily for Skharr, he also has good friends. Things are a little different with this dungeon though and it seems that maybe there are some gods around after all.

A Different Genre From An Author I Follow

I follow this author ever since I first read his Bethany Anne vampire/sci-fi series. This is a new series about a class of warrior known as a Deatheater. I fully recommend the new series.

Michael does it again!

I must say it's been kinda nice reading about the adventures of the Deatheater. As always Michael keeps it fun and entertaining. I will say if he gets bigger than a 8" statue Michael is going to be in trouble! LOL

Janus was two faced...wondering if It continued to his nether regions.

A delightful story of adventure and revenge. Skharr and the Captain Sera are on the way to becoming friends, but the sadness of parting is experienced as well. A good read. Waiting Is.

Great series

This author has a way with words and inventive cussing that leaves me laughing every time. Any book that can make me laugh out loud is a good book. I recommend this series.

Conan-esque

Skharr has become quite popular and sought after usually to be killed but this book takes it a lot closer the the Conan style many of us like as his female appeal also increases with subsequent reactions.
Great reading and an enjoyable series

Candy for the soul!

This is like chewing gum, hot tamales, nerds or sour patch candies. They fill you up for just that minute and then you are just comforted. This is what this books do for me. A guilty pleasure!

Another Day Another Dungeon

Skharr has a lot on his plate. A famous dungeon no one knows anything about. A lady he knows little about. A Lady who wants his help andmore.

On to the next book!

Loving these book!!!

I'm not a big fan of Conan as I find those stories a bit cheesy. I'm loving these books though!!! The characters are hard to not cheer for and celebrate when they win. A good- hearted barbarian...who'd A thunk it???

Skharr rules!

I love the feel of the book. It reminds me of Conan the Barbarian a lot and that’s a good thing. I can’t wait till the next one comes out.

Have enjoyed this series greatly, far more likeable main character than Conan ever was, but then he's legendary. Keep up the good work Michael!
