”I TRIED EVERYTHING ELSE, BUT IT’S STILL A NEVER-ENDING BATTLE…”Everybody knows that procrastination is the biggest waste of time – I am talking about those moments when you imagine what you should do in your mind a dozen times, but that still stays in your head, and deep down, you already know that.
You may have already tried a couple of daily routines to change your bad habits. Some cross-out To-Do Lists to make sure that you get everything done during a day, but still, after a few “productive” days, your will power burns out, and you end up in the same place where you started – with an iPhone in your hands, scrolling down Facebook, Texting Friends, and watching Youtube videos during ”breaks.” And I’ve been there as well…

Author Sebastian Goodwin links the problem of procrastination to the problem of overthinking. From my reading, the author believes that procrastination is an issue of having no goals, having no strategy to achieve those goals once set and having unrealistic expectations.
The book is divided into two parts: Part 1 is dedicated to procrastination; Part 2 is to overthinking.
There are many reasons why people procrastinate. Procrastination to me is purposeful delay of doing tasks that need to be done or ordered to be done by a parent, teacher, supervisor, employer, etc. Some people have difficulty tying themselves into goals and the ability to set them; the inability or reluctance to work toward the future due to lack of motivation or discipline or organizational skills or laziness or perhaps all of these things. Maybe it is just the plain old fear of failure or success. Do not make yourself believe that you must become perfect. There is a probability that this mindset will stall you where your are.
Overthinking is the second piece of the book. It is a question of where to begin with one's life. It is seems to be making a mountain of out of mole hill. A problem, a simple one, can become complex because there is not enough thought as to where to begin. Distractions, such as daydreaming or not being able to understand an assigned task, thus leading to overthinking the assignment. Fear in acknowledging that you may need help in getting started and leading to overthinking of an issue that may not be an issue. Dwelling on past failures may lead to an inability to move the future. This is a common issue that is sometimes mistaken for the voice of experience. Nothing beats a failure but an attempt to move forward. Sometimes a new mindset is needed to overcome overthinking and procrastination. It best to make lists of to do items and prioritize them on the list.
I find these self help books difficult to read. I find that books such as this are heavy on compartmentalizing or making lists of tasks. Although, these are excellent suggestions, they both require discipline. Discipline is one the great attributes in overcoming procrastination as is focus.
