FAB - BOOK REVIEW OF "Empowering Differences: Leveraging Your Differences To Impact Change" by Ashley Brundage

Genre - Non - Fiction(personal Development)

Rating - 4.5/5

QOTD: What is your favorite personal development book?

''Empowering Differences," the title itself is beautiful and full of empowerment force driving in it, isn't it? I often feel that books like this should usually be set out in the market because they are full power and equality driven by empowering oneself.

The book is divided into 4 parts -
1. Knowing yourself
2. Knowing others
3. Developing your strategy
4. Empowering actions
As the book is divided into sections, one can read the book and jot down the points to help them develop themselves.
This book has personal and professional life challenges faced by the author herself. I really liked it when the author talked about equality and her gender transformation and how she mentioned each and every single detail.
.
A compelling book, I would say! This is written in lucid language, so even if you are a beginner, you can grab this. The book's cover page and the tile correctly did justice for the context in the book. The writing style did wen with the flow, and in fact, it is not at all depictive, and that is the best thing because often in non-fiction books, we can depict what is happening but not in this book, it is the best thing about this book.
Grab a hot chocolate cup, and don't forget a cup of hot coffee and have a most awesome cozy read!

I am a non-traditional professional, currently balancing both a still-developing career in the Human Resources world, as well as wrapping up a remote learning-based undergraduate degree in Organizational Leadership (OLEAD). I have navigated multiple roles and responsibilities in the academic and professional worlds, but sometimes lack the means to feel confident in telling my own story outside of traditional confines. It's a big reason why I have come to study and practice the art of helping others find better tools to find themselves. Too often, however, I find myself deflated in pursuits finding additional reading material outside of my curriculum, as most of it ends up feeling as cold and technical as the bulk of research journals I cram into my brain; for a field of study and profession that relies so much on the human experience through affect as much as analytical data, jargon and an overall lack of relevant narrative outnumber more personal approaches. After reading Ashley Brundage's book over the holidays, I am pleased to say that her work has refreshingly bucked that trend.

Using her own experiences through personal and professional opportunities and challenges, readers will easily find themselves both absorbing the message and lessons to be taken from this book. Not only is there the opportunity to learn and adapt to strategies around bringing out the best within one's self and others, but I found that the key to this book's success in drawing us in and sending us back into the world with knowledge is the invitation to engage in research and outreach for one's self. Consider this work to be an insightful overview of how to begin to better understand embracing uniqueness among one another to build a stronger community, now and in the future.

The overall flow of the writing was engaging, and provided some opportunities to take pause and reflect on our own sense of where we've been, where we are, and where we want to go (and how we will bring others along - as well as help to propel even further!). Additional resources are available on the author's book's site, https://www.empoweringdiffernces.com - no matter how far into the overall materials you choose to engage, you'll find value and, most importantly, the ability to grow from and share what you've learned by reading Ashley's personal story, and the strategies presented throughout.

This was an excellent read by someone who I have come to understand and respect as a trusted source for invaluable perspectives on and strategies of emotional intelligence, diversity & inclusion, and personal brand development. If you are interested in bolstering your skills in any of these areas, I would highly recommend you put this as close to the front of your reading list as you can, and ASAP!!

First, a confession: The review headline above is a quote by Sally Hogshead extracted from the book's Forward. It's just perfect though.

Now......
Decades after natural scientists understood the importance of diversity in healthy ecosystems, Ashley now spotlights why those same science-proven principles apply to human ecology. Differences are not only good, they are needed.

Generalizing now:
For those who feel "Different" (Most do), Ashley encourages you to consider what makes you different a superpower. The action steps within are, IMO, the target audience of this book. But there is more........
For those who struggle to fully appreciate people who are "Different" (Again most people), Ashley helps readers understand what they may be missing - specifically, being different is better.

Ashley's personal experience with the Transgender community gives her credibility, but the value of her experience and advice is not limited to that niche. Differences may be due to age, culture, education, ethnicity, geography, sex, physical or mental ability, religion, family status, socioeconomic's, and eventually Earth vs. Extraterrestrials ......whatever other category you can think of.

Thus the thrust of this book is for most people and it comes at a time when it's more welcome than ever. The world is ready.

So, even though the definition of diversity will change as our world becomes more virtual, it remains critical we welcome and encourage differences. History shows that the health, if not the survival, of our human ecosystem depends on it.

I especially liked how Ashley makes a realistic business case for empowering differences. This is not about feeling sorry for yourself or others. It's just better for people, planet and profit.

To some this will be obvious, but to many others: eye-opening I believe.

OK - To nitpick, I'd prefer a larger font and some graphics or visuals. 300+ pages of text seemed a lot at first to me, but it is not heavy reading. Just thorough.

So yes, it is recommended.

I left the very same review under my reviewer name (Vera Electra) on Amazon for those keeping track.

This book was selected as the book of the month in one of my book clubs.
That particular club focuses all on self-help, entrepreneurship, etc. So it definitely fits the bill.

What I was not expecting, however, was to find a self-help book that is also jam-packed with lovingly written, funny, and relatable stories as well as practical tips to achieve changes in life where one might not realize their own strengths.

"Empowering Differences" teaches its' readers how to look at all aspects of who and what they are, and use them strategically to advance themselves careerwise as well as bring others along with them.

Ashley Brundage has done it, and done it WELL with "Empowering Differences."
The cover art is striking and almost sparkles in the right light, it's a perfect reminder that we are all sparklier than we originally thought. - This book shows in an easy to understand, and perfectly flowing way just how to make that work for you. It reads so easily too, almost like a favorite fiction - and that takes a rare talent in a business-minded book.

The companion workbook is super helpful as well! Being able to organize all of your personal thoughts in companion with the book really helps to drive the points home that are being made.

Overall,
This book is much more than a "do this to get that coveted promotion" story. "Empowering Differences" is a step-by-step guide to reprogramming how the reader interacts with the world. The benefits that come with it are the direct result of changes the reader makes in themselves. It is a beautiful book, that has something beneficial for every person in the world. Not just those who are involved in corporate settings.

I have always known and thought of Ashley as an inspiration and as a leader. Her first book – Empowering Differences – is true to her character. It inspires one to look deep into oneself, embrace one’s unique difference(s), and (em)power oneself to follow dreams and build careers. Empowering Differences is a real-life narrative, and it speaks to real people and the life situations they face due to their difference(s). Reading through this book, one can identify with the lived realities of life while taking critical advice on how to make the difference(s) work towards one’s career goals/success.

Empowering Differences: Leveraging Your Differences To Impact Change by Ashley Brundage is a non-fiction book divided into four parts. Those encouraging sections are penned on knowing yourself and others, how to develop strategies and empower actions. The steps on how to research, identify, understand and frame the differences, build your own confidence, keep motivating and get inspired by leaders is well explained here in a easiest way.

In simple words, this book is all about identifying, understanding, framing and discovering. Every chapter had something to teach. This book kept me hooked till the end. The writing style was flawless. The language used was simple and lucid. The title matched the concept and the cover was simple but it could have been better.

Overall, it was a amazing read filled with lots of motivation. Kudos to the author for scribbling out her transformation and inspiring us in different ways. I would recommend this book to everyone.

Thankyou🌸

This is a unique and very powerful one. The author has treated the subject well. She has pit forward many clear datas to the reader, that will often make u wonder.
She gives a beautiful definition to empowering that is to give the power/authority to.
She has potrayed LGBT community with vividness so that the reader can find they are not from another planet.
The author is actually celebrating the uniqueness. And she insist the readers to give power to what make u unique, everyone would have a unique point, sometimes people will try to cover it, in that case the book is very inspiring.
I haven't read anything like this recently.
I appreciate all the social works by the author in her personal life.

The book is about empowering differences as the title says. It’s a career-growth book written by Ashely Brundage. She has had a successful career and has done some amazing work for the LGBTQ+ community
The main idea of the book is to recognise the differences in ourselves and make them our strengths. In any office environment nowadays similarities are not sought out, but differences. As Ashley puts it, It's your differences that make you stand out in the crowd. And you should use your differences strategically to empower yourself and also help others who are working with you.
The book speaks about the author’s own career & personal life. How she had to rise through the ranks to a managerial position two times in her life. And it also tells how her gender transition put blocks in both her career and personal life but she came past them with data, statistics and will power.
This book was a great read! Yes, it was a bit long but the author did point out some things that I can work out in my life. So I would be doing some work on myself to make my company and superiors take notice of me. Thanks!!

Book - Empowering Differences
Author - Ashley T. Brundage
.
“It’s good to be better. But it’s better to be different. Different is better than better.”
.
What exact do you understand by Empowering Differences mean? You first need to understand the basis of this book. To empower means to give power or authority to. Difference means a point or way in which people or things are not the same. When you put it all together Empowering Differences equates to “Using power and authority for yourself or others while positioning ways in which you are not the same as the people around you.”
.
The author of this book has had a successful career and has done some amazing work for the LGBTQ+ community. She celebrated her authenticity, empowered herself, and others, to create a stronger community.
.
The main idea of the book is to recognise the differences in ourselves and make them our strengths. Thi final question is -
What Separates You From the Rest?

It is a wonderful book to recognize our uniqueness and make them our strengths. The author talks about her career and I loved the work she has done for LGBT community. She voices the differences that make a person their true self and how to empower in life to grow. It is our differences that separate us from the rest of the world. It is such a great read with vivid statistics and data that helps us to see around and give a different perception. I loved how the author becomes vulnerable and speaks about her gender transformation and how she overcomes all the norms and rise in society. It is a great book that speaks volumes about the differences that everyone has and how it helps us to be a different version of the same species. Moreover, it leverages our willpower to talk about the so-called taboo and make a difference in society. This book is my personal favorite to look at my differences and grow in life rather than be thinking about imaginative thoughts that are not true.

I spent a good portion of my life trying to fit in with those around me. I was exhausted by my efforts to please others and finally thought, "What if I'm just ME?" Ashley's book takes this idea of just being you and runs with it--to knowing what makes you unique, and using this uniqueness to drive your career forward. I love her perspective of your differences being a superpower. And her approach is framed in the spirit of service to others--how can I use what is different about ME to help THEM? It was a completely new approach for me. Ashley's book provides tools and strategies that are incredibly effective, but there is so much more to be found in the book's pages. She has an engaging story to tell and it is quite enjoyable to read about her personal journey. Ashley is an inspiration and I hope this is the first of many books from her.
