What a masterpiece! I read it for 3 days straight. An amazing amalgam of every fairy tale we know, shown in a different light. Even though it was all make-believe, it was so real all the characters seemed alive, with their good and bad traits, so believable. The last 3 books sort of threw me, but they also were pertinent and well-done. Amazing amazing creative writing. Loved it!
I am not a fan of love triangle and the relationships in these books are twisted and confusing. This is not a bid to fairy tales nor a parody, but rather a story with Tina of fairy tales thrown in all over the place to make some weird amalgamation. I grew bored with the Prince's tame courtship and Rilla's multiple attractions. Maybe it is just her ogre nature but I was not at all happy with how long the True Love's kiss was dragged out.
The last two books in this series were throwbacks to fill in backstories. I found to Snow Queen interesting and tragic but also ridiculous. Paloma and Orson glossed over too many situations and I feel it would have been better to either flesh the timeline out more fully or maybe to use subheadings to align the story with the the happenings in Rilla's books. I am not much tempted to read the other books.
Good read, significant action throughout. Pace was good and seeing the main character develop was interesting. (Note that the last two books in series fill in details for some main characters seen in the first seven books.)
I got interested in reading this set of books as I had read the Dragon Mage Academy series and upon completion looked up this series as I wanted to see some of the history to that series.
Sadly upon reading the Seven Kingdoms I as left wanting more as there is a gap in time between the end of Seven Kingdoms and the Dragon Mage series. (It seems there are books yet to be written to fill in that gap.) As I like to binge read series versus waiting for the next book to come out it will likely be years before I pick up this story line again.
I’ll have to check through other books by this author. It seems like a large chunk of Cendrilla’s story is missing. Perhaps it was just passed over to get on with Albas story.
This series was so much fun! I could hardly stand to put my kindle on the charger. I loved this adventure. The characters were fascinating and fun, although aggravating occasionally. Read it. You won't regret it.
The overarching story of Rila is powerful, entertaining, and filled with beloved fairytale characters come to life. Nothing is as it seems, with twists to every character. The only thing keeping me from a five star rating was a few things at the end of book 7. I don't want to spoil it, but what happens with the kingdoms and how they are ruled at the very end just made no sense after all the build up over multiple books. I do like that it has a happy ending... but then the final book ruins that for me, personally. I would highly suggest not reading the final one at all. I did finish the whole thing since I had already read that many pages. Other than those two things, the series is very good and definitely worth the read. I devoured the series of books.
This was the worst series I've ever read in my long life. Besides being a copycat sort of Cinderella, ergo the heroine " Cendrilla" the author calls her as a known nickname of "Rolls and on the same page names her " Ella". He or she can't even remember the nickname given, then uses ridiculous character names like the TV famous Dr Welby, and it goes on. King January, King Tehranosaurous and son Tricerotop What a waste, then King Rinoceros, among the few before you get to all the gem stones for the trolls. If I had not promised myself to finish every book or series I started I would have deleted this after the first few books. I will never waste my time on anything by this author. What a waste!
The underlying story had some merit but too much trying to interweave it with a mixture of Grimm or Anderson which made for very muddled reading. I stuck with it because I had nothing else to read….
One of my favorite twisted Fairy Tales. It was fun, and the characters had depth. I laughed out loud. It's one of those nonsensical stories that just make you feel good. I wish I still had them all on epub/ so my PC could read them to me again.
I was enthralled at this set of stories. A different take on magic, witches, and magical being. I thoroughly enjoyed the ending stories as they gave noted depth into some of the more intriguing characters and some background for motives.
I really didn’t like it. I only got half way in the first book before I dumped it. Think about every fairy tale you know. That’s what these books are about. Rehashing fairy tales. So boring.
